Wait, do people know about the Before I Play wiki?
I have used this for..... at this point easily over 6 years. It's a wiki where there will be low-spoiler/non-spoiler hints about just stuff you would want to know before playing a game.
It's always stuff like.... "Vitality in this game is useless, put your points in everything else first" or "Don't leave the second hub town until you buy X item, it'll become unobtainable."
Lemme pick an example almost everyone will know. From the Animal Crossing New Horizons page, the first tip is:
Nearly everything on the island is movable later, including all buildings and even cliffs and rivers. The main things that are fixed are the stuff on the border of the island (river mouths, beaches, rocks/peninsulae, the dock and the airport) and the resident services plaza, so picking your island layout should be based around that primarily.
That's stellar advice, tbh, given what you'll know about the game 30 hours in instead of 30 minutes.
Not every game is covered obviously and not every piece of advice is good, it's all subjective, BUT..... I look up almost every game I play for the first time, just to keep stuff in mind. The SMT4 page had top tier advice imo.
Made a twitter thread of the brushes and textures I use!! Wanted to share them here too

in a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar & eggs till pale and fluffy, nearly tripled in side --- takes about 5min
add the chocolate mixture to the sugar & eggs

preheat oven to 180C/340F & grease a baking sheet very well

hi. i haven’t seen any of these floating around in a while so I thought i’d make one and try to help people. ‘cause there was a whole lot I didn’t know and it almost completely fucked me up! this is specifically for freshmen, since i’m only a sophomore. I’m gonna put generally important stuff at the top, and then go into more detail under a read more. ok, so here’s some advice from a very poor, white history major (and the two years experience my brother had before he dropped out) This isn’t perfect or all-inclusive, but it’s something
-College isn’t for everyone. don’t feel pressured to go if you don’t want to. there’s other options! i hate college
-don’t feel pressured to go to a big name school. sure, the clout might be nice but a college degree is a college degree
-i operate under the assumption that if a school wants me to pay to send in an application, then they’re not worth my time
-if you receive any sort of financial aid for going to high school (like free/reduced lunches) then you may be eligible to take the SAT and ACT for free! please ask your guidance counselor about this, it definitely saved me. also i think they can send college applications for free? i didn’t do that so i don’t remember
-do your fafsa as soon as possible. it opens October 1st, and the sooner you do it, the more money you’re likely to get –what’s fafsa? student financial aid from the government. Includes grants (which you don’t have to pay back) and loans (which you do pay back, but cheaper than other loan people)
-keep an eye on your bill. it’s sneaky and new charges might appear as the year gets closer to starting. also! while registering, keep an eye out for fees that don’t appear on your bill
-check your damn email everyday. better yet, sync notifications of new emails to your phone
-start using a schedule planner. even if you’ve never used one and think you’ll be fine, start using one. they have free apps!
-Know where the counseling office is. Know how to contact them. Every school is required to have them, and they’re free. they Will help you. Become friends with them, even

Okay listen I have another disability related thing that’s important!!
If you have any disabilities linked to tooth decay/erosion, through direct cause or secondary symptom, it is vital that you get one or both of the following items: Sensodyne toothpaste and enamel repair mouthwash
This includes health conditions such as acid reflux, diabetes, thyroid conditions, fibromyalgia, chronic pain & mental illnesses such as depression that create poor hygiene routines, sensory issue disorders like autism and ADHD, and any health condition that causes frequent vomiting / increased stomach acid, including eating disorders and migraines.
All of these disabilities will erode the enamel of your teeth, not only opening you up to cavities but making it very easy to chip your teeth from such simple things as biting the wrong way on the tines of a fork. (I’ve chipped my teeth at least 4 times this way).
The toothpaste on the left here (sensodyne pronamel) is gentle on your teeth, won’t cause painful sensations from any extreme mint flavor, and will even protect your gums if they’re sensitive from any of these conditions.
The mouthwash on the right (Crest enamel repair) will, as it says, repair your enamel — which is marvelous, because the technology to repair your enamel at all is relatively very new to society! — but it is most importantly non-alcoholic. Meaning that it works well as a once-a-day rinse without any of the burning sensations of antiseptics that typically discourage people with sensory issues from taking care of their teeth.
I know remembering to do these things every day can feel like a lot when you’re sick and exhausted, but I promise a collective three minutes out of every day is going to save you an incredible amount of pain and money in the future. If your teeth are susceptible enough to rot, you can actually die from infection. And as they say, with how little insurance actually covers dental —
Not brushing your teeth??
Ok but like. What the fuck is there to do on the internet anymore?
Idk when I was younger, you could just go and go and find exciting new websites full of whatever cool things you wanted to explore. An overabundance of ways to occupy your time online.
Now, it’s just… Social media. That’s it. Social media and news sites. And I’m tired of social media and I’m tired of the news.
Am I just like completely inept at finding new things or has the internet just fallen apart that much with the problems of SEO and web 3.0 turning everything into a same-site prison?
Here is a masterpost of MOOCs (massive open online courses) that are available, archived, or starting soon. I think they will help those that like to learn with a teacher or with videos. You can always check the audit course or no certificate option so that you can learn for free.

Do you know what RSS means? I've seen that a lot webcomics have a RSS page but I've been never quite sure what it does.
Yeah! RSS stands for "really simple syndication" and it's a way to subscribe to webpages on your own all in one place instead of using social media accounts, it's super useful for keeping up with independent websites (which is why so many webcomics encourage using it) and social media posts on sites you don't use yourself. It seems a bit intimidating at first but it's really handy because you can completely customize your feed, and keep up with exactly the content you want without having to follow all your favorite creators across six different social medias whose algorithms hide their updates anyway. I'm a huge fan of the concept myself but I'm a fucking barbarian and still just have an enormous list of bookmarks I check manually whenever I think of it, BUT my Cool Blog Pal @unpretty talks about it fairly frequently and knows much more about how it works than I do! She has a very long and detailed post about it over here you can look into when you get a minute. https://unpretty.space/post/181035050748/hey-a-friend-of-mine-is-curious-about-rss-and-the

Tumblr added a bunch of tracking shit to share urls, so now ill teach you how to get rid of them
if you copy a url by sharing on the website, the link will look like this
getting rid of tracking in these is easy, just delete everything after the question mark and you are golden
in the case for the app, its slightly more complicated
first you have to delete at. that appears before tumblr(.)com the other tracking shit on this one has a lot more info, so please, clean app urls. after the first set of numbers, there's a / you have to delete everything after it
a clean Tumblr url should look like this

this messed up vintage cat sewing pattern has tormented me since i saw it & like some other folks have done in that post - i tried my hand at tweaking the pattern to resemble the illustration (and my personal tastes) a little more. i've ended up with this, which i have only tested at a small scale and not this final version exactly (where i have done such things as further widening the cheeks and finalizing the leg shapes.) i bestow it upon you nice folks now 👐
go forth and make weird little beanbag kittens! pls show me if you do!
