Ok so I just got back from watching Across the Spiderverse, and unlike most sequels/Marvel movies, it was absolutely, awesomely good. The animation just blew me away, and the team managed to blend the different styles of each dimension smoothly. I really enjoyed that the different styles defined each character, especially with Hobie, where he visually clashed with the environment. I feel very similarly about the soundtrack and Miguel's theme slaps.
The story kept the same feel of the first, which it what I really appreciate, and like the first, it had a pretty long rising action. Practically every scene had me on the edge of my seat, and the easter eggs were really cool. I think 95 percent of my time was spent looking in the background to see people. SPOILERS AHEAD!! My favorite cameos are probably live action Donald Glover (which looked surprisingly not greenscreened in) and Wild West Spiderman/horse. I LOVE HOBIE AND PAVITR SO MUCH. The intro scene with Jessica and Gwen and Miguel was also super cool, and I get the idea that MAYBE the animators love their 0.5's. The Spot gives me major squeaky-villain-nerd-that-Tumblr-loves vibes. Also (MAJOR SPOILER!!) the dawning realization that Miles went to the wrong home was insanely nerve-wracking and a good plot-twist (hinted at with Miguel's "you are THE anomaly" monolog). Deserves all the Oscars!! (And I loved the BLM and protect trans kids in the back :). )
i just had the funniest experience in vr chat, i joined a random server and the one i joined had Japanese people so i waddled around in my goofy club penguin avatar that i have saved, after a while a guy walks up to me and clones my avatar so were both penguins then another guy shows up and clone my avatar
now keep in mind there only speaking Japanese i don’t know what they are saying, then another guy joins in, so i got a group of three penguin friends
we just waddle around and goof about, the one of them tries to talk to me, but not only do i not have a mic i also don’t speak Japanese, they figure out i don’t speak Japanese and start listing various places, they get the part of being European right, and after listing a lot of places they ask if im from the UK and when i nod they all just start cheering. after hanging out for a while one of them gets real close to me and whispers…
“penguin brothers forever”
If you have ever been tempted by a Paleozoic Pal, like a a stuffed trilobite or a full size eurypterid body pillow, now's the time to buy one, before they and a really lovely little museum are gone for good 😭😭😭
when I left school there was a storm going on (wind was like you had to be 5ft away from coverage to actually get coverage with it blowing sideways) and my jeans and socks got wet, then I had to go sit on damp vinyl sensory nightmare ffs 💀💀
I was looking a bit more in Furina’s character and
THIS POOR GIRL WHAT
She seems mentally like a teenager who is forced to act like an adult, despite not having that maturity and being forced into this leader position after Egeria died, and was promptly almost immediately abandoned by her old subordinates (Oceanids).
Not to mention her own insecurities run so deep that she constantly has to put on an act for people to like and respect her, but by doing this the people only see her as a jester so the don’t take her seriously at all, even if she wants people too. Her need for validation from her people is digging her even deeper into a hole where she continues to lose seriousness by acting in what she sees is the only way to get people to respect her.
Aside from that, she feels practically isolated from her entire country. Her judge, Neuvillette, is taken very seriously by the people and garners lots of respect, which probably leads to Furina being jealous of him. Neuvillette looks out for Furina, but has little understanding of human emotion which makes it even harder for Furina to actually talk to someone.
On top of that, when she gets attacked and nearly murdered by Arlechinno, she literally can’t tell anyone about it. Her own self doubt and insecurities make her feel isolated and embarrassed that she even was in danger in the first place. She essentially seems to blame herself for it. NOT TO MENTION that there are fatui informants INSIDE Palais Mermonia, watching and recording her every move.
This girl has absolutely no privacy, and is always being watched and despite this, is still so incredibly isolated and lonely.
She is also being accused of being ignorant and useless in leading her country in the dilemma. As of writing this, it does seem that she genuinely has a plan. Imagine being yelled at for not helping your country by the very person who almost murdered you in the middle of the night despite trying your best to help. And this is all not to mention the whole split personality theory.
Overall, I find her character incredibly tragic and misunderstood. For the archon of a region that has a heavy motif of lying, masks, and deception, I find it ironic that most of the Genshin community has taken Furina at face value.
tl;dr: Furina is just a really lonely mentally unstable teenager
Honestly, I think mordetwi and the criticisms of it perfectly represent the hate people who don't conform to societal normities face. Twilight clearly represents nerds who dare to be pretty, rather than either or. Mordecai is your average aviary male who formed healthy bonds with his friends and girlfriend when society says that it's "gay" to care for male companions. Not only are they separated by distance and different TV shows, but expectations to marry the same species, much like Legoshi and hard from beastars. It's clear tragedy is present in their lives as they beg for mere airplanes to grant wishes, indicating they've been put through so much, that they need wishes to be commonplace as planes are. Mordetwi is genius. 💙💜
