Every day I think about how I opened up to a friend about a threat that was sent to my synagogue, and her initial response was confusion, followed by a statement that whoever sent the threat should know that “Judaism is not the same as zionism.”
I’ve never felt more scared realizing that people I know and work with could rationalize threats of attacks at local American synagogues if the synagogue was ✨Zionist✨
And I think about it all the time, because that was supposed to be a statement of comfort in her mind. With the implication was that I was a good, non Zionist conversion student and had nothing to worry about.
It’s not that people can be grossly antisemitic. Their intention and values were just aimed at the wrong place?? 🤨🙄
I know this isn’t a new line of thinking. But it was jarring to hear it said to my face.
i've had this garfield panel saved forever and i even marked in my calendar today as "the monday that wouldn't die" so uh. happy(?) monday the 22nd aka the monday that wouldn't die
No, today is not a Jewish holiday. Today is Erev Rosh Hashanah— Rosh Hashanah, the New Years of the Hebrew calendar, begins at sundown!
shabbat is for nervous system recovery it doesn’t matter if you’re not religious it still has so much meaning and importance!!! why do secular people not understand this!!! reducing it to ‘silly’ or ‘pedantic’ rules about not driving or shopping or using electricity is so patronising and ignorant. I don’t want to drive 3 hours on shabbat for a hike because it’s exhausting and this is a day about recovering from exhaustion. I don’t want to go shopping because the lights are bright and the crowds are noisy. I don’t want to cook or do laundry because it’s loud and/or messy and because this is one time in my week I allow myself to just Not Do Things!!!
I am literally sitting here on my phone. I was reading from my kindle earlier and I’m about to drive to a little hike about 25 minutes away. maybe my shabbat would be even more relaxing if I followed jewish law more closely, I don’t know. but this is something that works for me and so I’m strict about keeping it because it adds something positive to my life, not simply because it’s a religious law. why is it so hard for secular people, jewish or not, to consider judaism with even just the tiniest bit of nuance
Yes, today is the seventh day of Sukkot, Hoshana Raba! Hoshana Raba is the day on which it is said that the divine judgement which was “sealed” on Yom Kippur is delivered. Outside of Israel, Shemini Atzeret begins at sundown. In Israel, Simchat Torah begins at sundown. Please note timing and observances of these holidays may vary by congregation.
If I say "Israelis are human beings" and you hear "I think Palestinians are subhuman and should die," that's a problem you should work on.
The complete and utter lack of self awareness exhibited by the goyim who continuously reblog "antisemitism is bad!" posts in between their regularly scheduled blood libel is truly impressive to witness
Has it accrued to you that the reason the left hates jews is because you people are fucking awful??? The problem is you!!!
antisemitism is not the fault of jews. ever.
I was just thinking about the term "two Jews three opinions" (as I frequently do, I love that phrase).
There is frequent division and debate within our community. We are by no means homogeneous in our views, but we still hurt and cry and care for each other.
And that's just so beautiful and amazing.
Our views expand far beyond the binary of black and white, unlike the frosting on a halfmoon cookie!
So enjoy this little doodle appreciating our diversity of views, hopefully it brings a little joy into your day.
