I'm working on the dollhouse kitchen today. Countertops and cupboards are now under construction. ✏📏📐✂🛠 You know what's awesome about being a creative, being a maker? That a person can do anything, make anything, fix what needs to be fixed. And have the empowerment to solve problems or puzzles, even when they require another person's help or expertise. I have friends that can create amazing things with the mediums they have chosen to express themselves with. Be that expression come through painting, needle arts, coding, building, paperarts, whatever it is, we are makers, artists, doers, and crafters. There really isn't a distinction. When it comes to self-expression, we are all part of a larger community that should embrace all of our differences. We can't afford to be elitists and exclusionary because its those innovators and dreamers that can and will push us and help us to become the best we can be. Easter was nice this year. Leocadia's aunt cooked Easter dinner. I got to see my nephews and Leocadia had a blast. But something has been bugging me about my interactions with people Sunday. I always feel obligated to blend in, to be pleasant. For me, that can be a lot of work and is physically and emotionally draining. A family member, at one point, was having difficulty get up from a sitting position on the floor and I suggested trying yoga. She laughed and asked if I had done it. I said yes, I did it for years, and my last class was at xmas. I've done yoga for years and I'm still limber enough to do some difficult poses well, despite the fact that I'm not skinny. Thet challenged me they told me to prove it. They didn't believe me. And I was expected to immediately start doing yoga poses for these people without centering myself.😑 Now, this should have raised red flags and questions then, but being me, I wasn't thinking about that, just trying to fit in. I realized they were laughing at me. They were belittling me. Why? I've noticed that this has become a trend with them. They constantly question my statements and do not ever believe a word I say. And more often than not, they laugh at what I say. I can't say they hurt my feelings, because they didn't. I can say I am embarrassed that I allowed these people to laugh at me. I have nothing to prove to them, or anybody really, and I need to remind my self of that. So, to my doubters and naysayers- Here's a challenge for you: go to a yoga class with me. And then come to my farm and do all the work I do. Carry 50 pound sacks of feed, bales of hay, chase down cattle and sheep, wade through muck and mire to shoot snakes, chop down diseased trees, feed babies and care for the sick. And do everything else I do while I also raise a child by myself. And then create the things I do on a daily basis. I have nothing to prove to you. I'm a badass. I prove that to myself every day.
