Unlike the shroud that’s covering Shouto’s left side, Midoriya’s fire roars and curls around him, then finally forms a wreath at his back.
A blazing halo burns at Midoriya’s back. Except no, not a halo, Shouto realizes. Even as he watches in awe, the ring of flames at Midoriya’s back splits in the middle and unfurls, stretching to either side and branching out.
Not a halo, but wings, Shouto realizes.

this fic is literally so fucking amazing. like, go read it right now because i swear you won’t regret it (except once you finish because then you have to wait for updates and you end up rereading it over and over and procrastinate on your responsibilities. you can tell i’m speaking from experience when i say that.) i really love the rewrite of the tododeku fight in the sports’ festival and i wanted to draw art for it (especially because it’s a big part of the namesake for the fic). it’s a bit (read: very) messy but i’m still happy w/ how it turned out. plus i got to experiment with coloring and lighting!

Okay so I was thinking about @pitviperofdoom‘s fic Yesterday Upon the Stair and certain reveals we got over the past couple chapters and then this tidbit came to me in the shower and I had to write it down. I’m sorry if this is terrible or has already been done. I just like thinking about Izuku getting comfortable talking about his ghosts and less “the entire world of the dead is on my shoulders and mine alone” in the future.
But yeah, go read that fic it’s a good one.
“Don’t speak ill of the dead,” the hero-in-training named Midoriya reprimands, his voice hard but his expression deadpan. “They might hear you and then they’ll start complaining.”
Hana stares at him for a moment before turning to his companion, Endeavor’s prodigy boy. “Is he being serious?”
Todoroki just blinks. “Unfortunately.”
Midoriya brings a hand up to jerk his thumb in Todoroki’s direction. “You have no idea the grief this guy’s uncle has given me.”
“I told you, I’ve never met him and can’t be held responsible for him.”
“Okay,” Midoriya says, starting to turn away from Hana and pay far more attention to Todoroki. “But someone has to take responsibility for him and all the headaches he’s given me.”
Todoroki is turning too. Apparently they’ve dismissed Hana completely and are wandering off together, back towards the Yuuei group. “Didn’t you tell me he saved your life once?”
Midoriya tilts his head. “Well, yeah, but it’s been a year since then and the headache is getting really persistent.”
Todoroki huffs something that might be a laugh back.
The two drift together, shoulders brushing as they walk away. In Midoriya’s shadow Hana thinks she sees a girl, long dark hair and pale skin and teeth like nightmares. When she blinks the image is gone. Midoriya and Todoroki notice nothing.
Right.
Hana heads back towards her classmates. “Oi, Sauriyama, you’ll never believe this…”
“You’re disappointed in me.” The boy’s voice is cold. Flat. Far too calm for the look in his eyes.
All-Might doesn’t answer, but he expects that the look on his face is answer enough.
“Good.”
He blinks at his student, shocked. “Good?”
“Means it worked, didn’t it?”
did i binge-read yesterday upon the stair in 3 days and then spend 11 hours editing fake screenshots? you bet!

Hi @pitviperofdoom I’ve been following your writing since your Big Hero 6 stories (I loved those so much!!) and I just wanted to put something together to show how much I appreciate your amazing story telling… you go above and beyond with your characterisations again and again, and so I had to finally put together something that shows how much I love your recent story Yesterday Upon the Stairs !! It’s just so full of development for characters that I never thought I’d come to love so much (Rei, Nana I see you, you wonderful characters), and it has so many individual scenes that are packed with drama and tension… I just love it so much I wanted to give you this. I hope you like it! I had to take some artistic liberties like Rei’s white eyes, Izuku’s lack of Disastrous eye bags and his good fashion sense (He’s a walking disaster most days, lets not lie to ourselves).. So like I made a video for that scene in Chapter 28 on @pitviperofdoom fic Yesterday Upon The Stair where Aizawa knocks some fucking sense into Bakugos head.
It was fucking amazing. I’m on chapter 33 out of the 42 available and Jesus this fic has me hollering.
