Hok hears some whispers since their early life but nobody else hears them. They doesn't tell anyone because it's weird and a bit scary and wtf is going on. Nobody knows that they can hear in fact the nightmother making them a perfect candidate for a listener.

Then years later while the Oblivion crisis takes place, HoK kills someone innocent and Lucien Lachance appears on their doorstep, doing the usual "you sleep rather soundly for a murderer" shit, want to recruit them.

HoK then says something like "Oh man good you are here, I heard whispers all day after this murder" and tells him about their little problem without knowing what it is. Lucien then be like:

why is every new TES blog is like… making up apologies just to make their character a stormcloak (or even a Nord, smh)

things like; “she used to support the stormcloaks, don’t worry she hates them later on lol” or “yes he’s a stormcloak no that doesn’t mean I support them lol” or some variation thereof.

it’s… just… a video game thing?

you don’t need to apologize. you don’t need to come up with plausible reasons in order to not get yourself “cancelled” for making a stormcloak character, a Nord character, or any other type of character you can imagine. just… make your goddamn character. that’s it.
