[ID: A digital Illustration of The Serpent. She has blue skin that becomes lighter in the middle and an afro that’s a deeper shade of blue. Her ears are elongated and decorated with white earrings that resemble eyes and hoops. She is shown wearing a double pearl necklace and a white cloth that covers her body, next to her are baskets of pearls that vary in colour. The background is made up of different shades of blue, purples, and pinks and a light that beams behind her. End ID]

Anyways dont watch this fucking show
Checkout my breakdown of the first 3 episodes here in part 1
Once again my multicultural ass is getting emotional of the portrayal of this multicultural family. Ive literally NEVER seen a black/asian family given so much depth in any piece of media before. and if i saw this show as a child it would’ve saved me from SO much pain and confusion
Also!! If you wanna see examples of bastons and kali (as mentioned in the show), there’s some footage of that here too. or if you just wanna see hella meta about Episode 6: Traditions specifically since that makes up a great chunk of this post
Starting off by once again highlighting how Alex is Filipino. I believe the captions are using the Indo-Portuguese way of spelling bebingkas.
[ID: There are three images. One is a screencapt of the subtitles for Robby’s dialogue as he says, “Seven days of Dad’s bebingcas.” The second image are of Filipino bebingkas, yellow cakes wrapped in banana leaves. The third image is of an articulated model of G1 Optimus Prime standing over a white styrofoam tray of three bebingkas. The yellow cakes have a plastic lining over them. end ID.]
Bibingkas are a baked Filipino rice cake that’s usually cooked in banana leaves with glutinous rice flour (a common type of flour used in Asian desserts). Coconut is also an ingredient in them, which might be hard to come by in the state of Pennsylvania, let alone an area like Witwicky. So Robby being excited over them may be because his dad doesn’t cook them often due to the rare (or super expensive) ingredients, an extremely common problem for POC trying to cook cultural foods. (In my case the nearby Asian market makes some bibingkas for patrons to buy. And yes I did drop $4 to get some for the sake of this post 🙈🙈🙈)
