I'm really fucking angry & have been sitting with this for a few days.
the last Residential School was closed in the fucking 80s, but I've heard fellow native people say it's 1996.
I'm crying as I write this and my blood is boiling, nobody is fucking talking about these poor babies who were ripped from their families and MURDERED!!!
nobody outside of Canada fucking talks about this. I'm so sick of it. There's so much violence towards native people, and nobody gives a shit.
They're ripping through our land as I speak, and our Prime Minister is at the center of it!
his statement towards the discovery of these children is to call this a "shameful chapter of our country's history" BUT HEY, JUSTIN??? the chapter ain't fucking done, you sick monster!!
there are 40 year olds who are still alive, who were survivors of the residential schools!!!
I'm so disgusted. I'm so done. I'm so, so disappointed in this awful country.
intersex bodies are just as natural and regular as perisex bodies, the only difference is that perisex bodies are more common. being intersex is not a birth defect in the same way being a perisex woman is not a birth defect. nothing broke, nothing is "wrong" with us, we are just less common.
being a perisex woman or a perisex man isn't a medical condition and neither is being intersex. when our intersex conditions cause other health complications it is not because we are intersex, it is because of a medical condition associated with being intersex.
a person with a uterus who has endometriosis isn't experiencing a symptom of having a uterus they are experiencing endometriosis.
intersex bodies are heavily medicalized. they are treated as problems that need to be solved, but being intersex isn't a medical condition. we don't need to be diagnosed and forced through "treatment" to make us as close to perisex as possible, we need support, awareness, and acceptance.
tldr; intersex bodies are just as natural as perisex bodies. intersex existence needs to stop being medicalized
Christians, or far-right zealots?
Wait what's a buildings fire evacuation plan if you aren't supposed to use the elevator to get down
This new bill has been introduced in both the house and the Senate.
Among other things, it will:
Raise the monthly disability income by just over 30 percent - bringing it to poverty level.
Remove penalties for recieving financial help from friends and family.
Increase the amount of assets a disabled person may have from $2,000 to $10,000 (this hasn't been updated since 1989)
Update outside income restrictions to allow disabled people to receive up to $399 a month without reducing their benefits.
REWARD, not penalize, people who want to receive additional income while on social security income.
REMOVE THE MARRIAGE BAN YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT THIS WILL REMOVE THE MARRIAGE BAN
For those unaware current regulations do a lot to oppress disabled people. In fact marriage equality doesn't even extend to disbled people who risk having their benefits reduced or outright taken away if they marry someone. This means that in common law states disabled people can't even live with their significant other or they risk losing their financial independence.
Current regulations mean that if you're disbled you can't have so much as one penny over $2,000 to your name. So buying a car and gaining more independence or freedom is largely out of the question for disabled people.
Current regulations penalize social security recipients who receive income from outside sources, even if those sources are reimbursement. Did you get paid to babysit for a few hours? That's income, and you get your benefits reduced. Did you loan a friend $10 and they pay you back? The government considers that $10 income, and you get your benefits reduced.
These aren't mere anecdotes - these are all examples of actual things that have happened to disbled people I know, and if you have any disabled friends in your life I'm sure they can tell you the same stories.
If you value marriage equality, if you value financial independence, if you value the rights of disbled people, please PLEASE support this bill! Contact your reps, vote, and make noise! This is a great thing!
Lynn Conway passed away this weekend. She was an electrical engineer whose professional work was instrumental in enabling virtually all modern semiconductor devices. She was fired from IBM, and lost her family for transitioning, and later came out and became an outspoken transgender activist.
Rest Easy, Lynn, the world is less for your absence.
Hey yall, I wanted to make a PSA about this because it'll be useful to many of you in the United States. You might qualify for public assistance now, specifically because of rising food prices.
The federal poverty line, the biggest determining factor for public assistance, has been kept artificially low for decades because it was based on the outdated assumption that food was the primary expense for most American households. For decades now, shelter has been the larger expense, but the federal poverty limit has still been determined based on the prices of food commodities.
Because food prices have recently gone up, the federal poverty line has gone up significantly as well. This means if you were previously slightly over the income limit to qualify for public assistance such as food stamps or medicaid, you likely qualify now. I'd like to encourage everyone who thinks they might qualify to apply for these programs. The qualification cutoffs are still absurdly low, so please be assured that if you qualify for assistance, you're not taking something you don't need or deserve.
Please reblog this if you think your followers will find it useful. I haven't seen anyone talking about this, it's just something I noticed recently, so I want the info to become more public to help people who might be struggling.
