NASA announced today that researchers using the Hubble space telescope have detected the presence of a saltwater ocean on Ganymede, Jupiter’s largest moon. Scientists speculated for years about the existence of a liquid ocean under the icy surface of the moon, and geologists even mapped Ganymede’s rocky exterior to get a better idea of its features. But until now, they weren’t completely sure what was under the crust.

“Merci, Monsieur.” Callisto grinned; their pronunciations weren’t perfect, they knew, but the encouragement felt nice.
“Where’d you learn French, anyways? Did you go to France or something?” They asked, pulling out their pencil to absently twirl it around their fingers. They knew Gaster was old--very old. Someone so old must’ve done some rather amazing things in their life.
He’d... He’d must’ve seen a lot of things Callisto had only read about.

Gaster nodded, pleased that they’d caught on rather quickly. The bio-luminescent flora beneath them, true to their name sake, echoed back to them as if praising the child’s success.
“Oui. You’re a quick learner, young one. It took myself quite some time to pronounce even a simple phrase like that correctly.” The monster’s throatier accent, though now fine tuned after years of practice, had taken time to adjust to the silken flow of the language.
Pride swelled in his soul, twinkling on his smile like the gems high above. “ Très bien. Very good.”

no easy answer; accepting2. You meet a man who has killed someone and done time for it before. Does this factor into how you treat him? Will he ever truly escape that sin?
“Well, if I’m honest, it does. It’d make me feel nervous and threatened, and I’d certainly treat him differently. I don’t think that the majority murderers deserve a second chance, though... It does depend on the situation. I would be a lot less afraid of someone who killed in self-defense, for instance. Maybe I’m answering this wrong, but... I’m being honest.”
6. If you tell the truth, an evil person gets to walk away free. If you lie, you may be able to send them away like they deserve. Is honesty worth more than justice?
“I--uh, I don’t lie to well. I don’t know. I don’t know. How evil are they? If they would hurt anyone if I let them go, or if the evil things they did hurt people, I’d lie. I’d try to lie, probably.”
16. Have you ever contemplated killing someone? Who and why? Would you ever act on it? Are you frightened you might?
“Do we h-have to talk about this?” There’s a long pause.
“I got startled... I was... I was scared. I didn’t have time to contemplate. I just--I...” That wasn’t answering the question.
“I don’t want to hurt anyone. But if I had to, I would. I have. I’m scared I’ll do it again, yes.”
It sounded like a fairytale. Callisto laughed, and its soft tinkle rippled through the echo flowers quietly. Though their giggles quickly subsided, they were left with a broad smile.
“You’ve got to be kidding me! What’d you do to the Queen to make her so mad?”
They folded their hands neatly, resting them on the flat of their stomach and watched the little gnats buzz about above them. Gaster had a lot more stories than Callisto had excepted; though if they were honest, they weren’t what they’d expected in the first place.
“I have been to France several times actually. When I was, oh, six hundred or so I was constantly traveling. France, Persia, Ireland, Denmark - I could never stay in one place for long. I favoured France most however.”
With fond memories in mind he waved leisurely in the air, tiny insects and specks of light flitting around his paw. “I met a few of their monarchs as well. Some were..more hospitable than others. I was almost beheaded by a Queen once, but fortunately the King managed to convince her to not sentence me to death.” Despite it being more of dire situation the monster simply chuckled, light hearted as ever.
“I was good friends with that King, and his own royal scientist as well. I visited as often as I could and my French wasn’t too insulting by then.”
“Wake up! Wake up! It’s just a dream!” “What were you dreaming about…? You were shouting…” “I woke up because you were screaming so loudly.” “Shh– No, no, don’t panic, love. You’re safe now.” “It was so real! I swear! He/she was here!” “I don’t ever want to sleep again. What if– what if I dream about that again?” “If you tell me, it’ll go away. That’s what my mum/dad always told me and it’s never failed me.” “Do you want to go back to sleep, or shall I make you a cup of tea?” “I don’t want to go back to sleep…” “I’m so scared… I can’t stop seeing what I just saw. It was so vivid!” “There’s really nobody here, okay? Do you need me to show you around to prove that to you?” “How do I know I’m not still dreaming? You’re acting really strangely.” “Let’s get you to the shower, you’re covered in sweat.” “There’s really nobody else here.” “You’ve got a really bad fever. That must have caused those weird dreams.” “I don’t even know what a peaceful night’s sleep is like anymore.” “I can’t do this anymore. These nightmares have to stop…” “Shh, it was just a bad dream. Just a dream, okay? None of it was real.” “I can’t go back to sleep after that. I need coffee– no, I need a drink, a stiff one.” “How long have you been having these nightmares?” “I’ve had nightmares all my life, but they’ve been really bad recently.” “You get so worked up before you go to sleep, maybe you should try to relax a bit more. Maybe then you’ll get some rest?” “I’d kill for a peaceful night’s sleep.” “A dream catcher? Honestly? I’m not a child.” “Nothing’s ever helped this. I just need to learn to live with the fact that sleeping will always be a nightmare, literally.” “I’m so tired… but there’s no way I’m going back to sleep after that.”
