yes, zuko may be a theater gay, but have we considered writer gay? 

all writers (that i’ve known) seem really quiet at first, but the more you get to know them, the more dramatic they become. they get loud, they act out different scenes, we secretly (or not secretly) love screaming out musical numbers. 

and zuko having killer outfits? writers are always stutin’ with their styles! 

also, being super shy? how he practices how he’s going to introduce himself to the gaang? peak writer gay energy.

Iroh knew that zuko was the blue spirit because one day when they were in the Earth Kingdom he saw the blue spirit wanted poster and thought “what kind of person would break into a fire nation prison to free the avatar wearing a theater mask of all…. I turn my back for one minute” 

Aang, surrounded by baffled councilmen, interrupted mid meeting: "ZUKO I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU’D DO SOMETHING SO RECKLESS!”

Zuko, half burnt after fistfighting his latest assasin: “It’s not that bad. Besides, you’re like twelve, you don't have to worry about this”

Aang: “only tw—I was the one who—! No, you know what? I’m calling your grandpa!”

The councilmen, thinking of Azulon: “?!”

Zuko: “WAIT NO AANG I’M SORRY!”

Aang, meditating aggressively: “TOO LATE.”

Roku, taking Aang’s place: “ZUKO I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU’D DO SOMETHING SO RECKLESS!”

The councilmen, losing their fucking minds: “?!?!?!????!??!???!”

I love how for most of The Boiling Rock Part 1 Zuko’s just going around like ‘you know who’s great? Uncle. I miss him a lot. He’s my favorite person and I will fight you for him” completely unprompted 

what a soft kid, I love him so much 

Ok but Zuko using the knowledge he acquired during his banishment to help him as the Fire Lord. Like making small talk with Earth Kingdom dignitaries about their local foods that he enjoyed and even misses. Like having in-depth conversations with his captains about sea currents and navigation. Like, in the middle of a meeting with several high-ranking naval officials, pointing out flails in security, like how a person can cling to a Fire Nation ship for hours at a time, or climb aboard using hatches on the upper decks, or disguise themselves as a lower ranking guard with easily accessible spare armour….

Though none of his experiences can prepare Zuko for the long, awkward silence that comes after he admits to doing or at least knowing something illegal and/or completely buck wild

what is wrong with him

Ive been going through the roulette of zuko adoption au’s (he cant catch a break) and I really enjoy Sun Warrior Zuko and Spirit Touched/Agni Zuko fics the most. Then I found one thats basically both(with a dash of dragon!zuko), so heres some art for @aravenwithawritingdesk ‘s Quetzalcóatl

I don't dislike the name change theory at all because I understand the thought process behind it, with the need to distance yourself from every trace of your abuser and all that. So like I get it. But I very strongly believe in Hunter reclaiming his name. Mostly cuz of scenes like this

It's important to him!! It's the name he uses to distinguish his true self from the persona he's built. It's the name he uses when he wants to be seen as someone other than the Golden Guard. It's the name others use when they want to express that they do see him. The name might have fucked up origins and he's clearly aware of it but being Hunter is the one thing about himself he's certain of right now.

Zuko's crew. T_T I'm now convinced every night had some sort of family activity soused with boiler room hooch. Zuko has zero poker face on mahjong night, while Jee wipes everyone clean with his RBF. And let's not forget Zuko and Aang are Azula-lightning-scar buddies, too. In through the chest and out through the back.

SOBBING!! you are so right about everything omg. I mean zuko lived on the ship with that crew for three whole years, and like. ok yeah he was at peak bastard mode during that time but they MUST have bonded in some way!! Mandatory game night at least once a week! zuko might be shitty at table games but they find out he obliterates everyone at charade.

And AAA OMFG DID U READ MY MIND. I DO HAVE a doodle of aang & a very crispy zuko being “mortal wound from azula” buddies lmao. Slapped some color on it just for you. mwah.

okay but for a split second can we all imagine short zuko? just imagine. 

zuko getting upset because the gaang doesn’t find him threatening enough due to his height.

sokka making so many short jokes on him that it’s unbelievable. 

azula being taller than her big brother.

iroh being about the same height as zuko and trying to let his nephew know that height is not something to be worried about.

zuko constantly getting mistaken for being younger than he is because he’s the same height that he was when he got his scar.

sokka just picking zuko up and throwing him over his shoulder and zuko being able to do nothing about it because he doesn’t want to hurt sokka with his firebending.

imagine the possibilities of short zuko. please.

Zuko: The food is too hot, I can't eat it.

Ty Lee: Here we go again.

Azula: ONE NORMAL DINNER IS ALL I ASK FOR!

Ty Lee keeps a drawing that Zuko made of them playing with turtleducks together. Zuko keeps a sparkly bead bracelet with a little golden flower charm Ty Lee made for him when he mentioned it was his favorite color. They gave these things to each other when they were little, and they mean the world to them - even acting as comfort items despite their initial friendship having faded away and not having seen each other in years.
