My whole WIP is about this! Set during the idustrial revolution, magic has become a tool, something to be used or maybe even ignored, forgotten and discarded. But then the Romantics rise and magic gets an impulse. It is intertwined with art: art as a spiritual power, something connected to feeling and expression and just a little out of reach, always at the edge of incomprehensible. My OC thinks about it like this: ‘Once, when religion had still been tangible and water could change in wine in front of your eyes, magic had been spiritual, an amazing, supernatural power. Later, miracles became stories. Churches rose, priests preached their psalms and every spire pulled mankind further from her faith. Magic was sacrilege, then utensil. Now philosophers and scientists held truth in their fingers, and magic, God and the occult should all be sweeped into a dark corner. Tungsten did not believe in God – at least, he didn't think he did. But magic was different. It was human and more than human, like love, or art‘.
I have always felt art is the closest we can get to magic!
I have a lot of feelings about how witchcraft and art are similar and intertwined, but I can’t exactly articulate them
My HC is that Jon 'pretentious' Sims learnt some fancy type of dancing in college, like the Viennese waltz or something. When Martin finally musters the courage to ask him 'to go dancing', he shows up at his doorstep in a too nice suit, all hair-slicked-back and shoes-with-heels. Martin, who intended to get drunk enough to lose at least half of his nerves and wore sneakers for the occasion, almost dies on the spot.
Are you aware that you possess a galaxy brain with magnum wisdom?
Why do you study history
Tin sounds like such an awesome character!!! Which are your favorite facts abt her? Also, in your current wip, which character is your favorite? Least favorite? Why? Ya know what? Just tell me what are your favorite parts of your whole WIP! I really want to hear abt it!! (Sorry abt such long ask, is just that your project really sparked my curiosity XD)
Don't apologize! I am literally smilinglike crazy over here behind my screen. This is the first time I'veshared anything about my project with the outher world and you haveno idea how happy these compliments and questions and the generalinterest are making me! Thanks so much!
Oh, I love Tin! I'mso glad you think she's cool. Here's some facts about her: *She's an activist at heart. At the start of the story, she joins astrike and then gets into a duel because someone talked shit abouther friend. She won't let you do that. She has no chill, but shereally does want the world to be a better place. * She named hergun after the only one of her brothers that did not ignore her. *She wears men's clothes for practical reasons. * If she getsoverwehlmed by any emotion but anger, tears well easily and she hatesthat.* She was part of a gang of yought criminals for a while. They were all boys and refused to let her in at first, but she foughtone with such feriousity that she scared the hell out of them. Theywere her gang after that.
Choosing a favorite is terrible!I've got so many characters in this story and I love all of them. Ithink Tungsten is one of my favorites because he's just such a wellmeaning sweetheart, but he never seems to catch a break. I enjoywriting Mercury, simply because he's a loud and intense soul whotalks in dramatic monologue. And I suppose I like Fer a lot. He'sthe one that started the group. He seems very tough and cool, but hedoesn't really like himself at all. All his self-worth comes fromholding together his band of outcasts, who he consideres his adoptedkids (he'd only admit this under extreem stress).
A leastfavorite is even harder! I have a bunch of characters that I'dprobably hate in real life, but I enjoy writing them. My leastfavorites right now are Espen and Nicholas, two of the rivals of theElements, but that's simply because I haven't yet put that mucheffort into to them. My favorite part of my whole project isthe characters, really. I'm not that good at plot, though I amtrying, but I really enjoy having these eleven characters interact, bond and fight and bicker. I also love creating the world aroundthem. I like playing with history and casually incorporating realpeople or events. I also worked hard on making the magic in thisworld very tangible (it's translated, so it sounds a little rusty):
'Magic swirled thick as fog abovethe Thames. Though Tungsten could not see it, only able to feelthe current the way you just smell scents and hear noice, he imaginedit as an endless amount of golden dust, dancing without any relationto the wind.'
and 'The magic lay beneath hisfingers, a piano, ready to be played.' I’m sorry, this got a little out of hand. If you are interested, please come and talk to me about it more, or tell me about your own projects! (I’m still up for making aesthetic moodboards for OC’s).
hi, friends! to celebrate 100 followers, i’ve decided to open up requests for oc moodboards!! i still can’t believe there’s that many of you following me (which is peanuts compared to others’ follower counts), and i also can’t believe that so many of you actually like my things? and characters?? to think, i’ve been too scared to share all this time.

Requests for OC aesthetics are open
I was tagged by the amazing @pen-for-sword. Thanks a lot! 1. Who has the darker backstory, your protagonist or your antagonist? My protagonists (all of them). My antagonists are usually motivated by a false sense of what is right, rather than a dark backstory.
2. What creeps out your main character? Tungsten is creeped out by old, empty buildings full of cobwebbs and memories. Tin dislikes superstition and the idea of bad omens or spirits. She freaks out about stuff she can't fend off with her hands. Silver doesn't deal too well with closed spaces; he needs to know he can get on the road when he wants to. Phosphore can get anxious in big groups of people.
3. How long have you been working on your latest WIP? Since december 2016.
4. Which character is most like you and why? I suppose I gave all of the Elements some of my characteristics and made them wholly unlike me in others. But if I had to choose one, I'd say I am a combination of Tungstens unease and will to travel and Bismuths instinct to nurture.
5. What genre is your latest WIP? Historical fantasy.
6. What’s your main character’s idea of a perfect date? Tungsten would like something simple, quiet and sweet. Maybe a walk in a pretty forest or watching a sunset while holding hands.
Silver has a hard time being vulnareble enough to actually date anyone, so if he did, he would love something that proves to him his partner has put thought and effort into it. Something with style and grace, like a surprise-diner in a fancy restaurant.
Phosphore would like to visit a museum, stroll around silently, and have a cup of coffee afterwards to discuss the art and maybe life.
Tin is the hardest to satisfy with a date. She would want to do something unconventional and no-nonsens, like join a protest mars. It's more about getting to know someone right away than being romantic.
7. If your main character was an animal, what would it be and why? Tungsten would be a bunny: small, soft, nervous and impossible to dislike. Silver would be a cat. He wants all of your attention and love, but the moment you get close to actually pat him, he puts out his claws and hisses. Phosphore is a swan: solemn, beautiful and serene. Tin would be a guard dog. She is loyal to those who need her to be loyal, but any threath can be sure to be bitten. And she does not bother to hide that dangerous side.
8. What books/films/songs have influenced your WIP, if any? Though the story has nothing to do with it anymore, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them did spark my first idea of the atmosphere. The soundtrack also helped a great deal.
9. What annoying writing habit do you have? (ie, too many commas, too many looong sentences etc). I can't properly connect one scene to the other, so I always end up with a list of two-page scenes instead of a seamless story.
10. Describe your WIP in one sentence. Eleven run-away magicians and artists attempt to live at the edge of society, but get caught up in a Romantic rebellion instead
I am tagging @dreamsofbooksandmonsters, @anightravensecho, @ladyliliana, @temporarysentences, @authorisada and @andtheotherwriter. Don’t bother if you don’t feel like it!
Please do tag me! It’s the one way I don’t feel annoying for talking about my work.
could you please reblog this if you’re okay with being tagged in tag games?
What kind of author are you; the “I write a lot of conversation” kind of author or the “I can’t help to put too much description”.

can we send OC requests to you now? you seem back in groove. :)
I am! Life is pretty hectic at the moment (it always is), but since making aesthetics relaxes me, I am trying to do it as much as I can. There’s still quite a line, but send me all your requests and I promise they will get done!
This blog will combine three things I love dearly: writing, talking about writing, and aesthetics. So if you have an amazing OC for which you crave an aesthetic moodboard or Instagram page - tell me all about them, and I will make you one! After all, every writer needs fanart.
