Absolutely no one is ready for this conversation but tbh I think the reason people (particularly film bros on YouTube) devalue Gihun’s character and call him stupid etc is bc he has emotional intelligence and internal strength and those are stereotypically feminine attributes
Said film bros will often go to bat for Sangwoo and say he ‘did nothing wrong’ and was the most ‘realistic’ character and that speaks volumes to me lol. To ppl and society in general emotional intelligence + kindness = feminine = weak, while harsh logic + physical strength = masculine = strong. So naturally that bleeds into our media analysis as well.
This attitude is everywhere but it strikes me as particularly funny wrt Squid Game S1 bc Gihun FUCKING WINS. Sangwoo LOSES. Gihun wins almost every game simply by being a good fucking person lol (I just reblogged a post discussing that not too long ago) and these same idiots just say it’s ‘plot armor’ LIKE DO U MEDIA LITERACY AT ALL. Not only that but Gihun wins against Ilnam too at the end like the series goes out of its way to show us that Sangwoo’s approach was WRONG. Also the series is not over yet u guys s2 was only half a season so we have no idea if Gihun’s rebellion will be ultimately futile or if it’ll end up actually changing things in the end.
Also P.S. Gihun is a regular fucking jackoff. He is not a superhero or a warrior or a fighter in any capacity whatsoever he is a regular jackoff who has spent over half of his entire projected lifespan being a regular jackoff. He doesn’t have any special training, at least not when it comes to armed combat or espionage. I’m gonna need ppl to give him a break and instead give him his goddamn flowers for having the ovaries of fucking steel required to launch a full scale rebellion while being a regular fucking jackoff.
TL;DR at this point whenever I see ‘lol Gihun dumb’ posts it’s actually just ‘tell me you completely missed the point of Squid Game without telling me you completely missed the point of Squid Game’
Answer him!!!!!

"There's a Palestine that dwells inside all of us, a Palestine that needs to be rescued: a free Palestine where all people regardless of color, religion, or race coexist; a Palestine where the meaning of the word "occupation" is only restricted to what the dictionary says rather than those plenty of meanings and connotations of death, destruction, pain, suffering, deprivation, isolation and restrictions that Israel has injected the word with"

Noy Leyb plants a fake paper into a school book for a propaganda video. The paper has 8 folds, while the one before and after does not have any. It is written in English, and the spoken language of the people there is Arabic.
I like the bit where the first two pages (clearly fresh out of the photocopier) have a shade of white lighter than the slightly off-white colouring of the rest of the pages.
C+ for effort.
A+ for stupidity.
F for overall performance.
"No one calls us home anymore," Sang-woo says, and he means it as a justification. An excuse. His life is empty, he is no longer a child to be cared for, no one calls for him and he has no home to go back to.
Gi-hun could have offered the obvious answer. He could have pointed out that Sang-woo's mother still calls him, that she talks to Gi-hun about her son whenever she sees him. We as the audience know that she asks if Gi-hun has heard from him, later, when she can't reach her son and worries if he's okay.
Gi-hun could have heard the excuse, the plea to give up, and he could have argued with Sang-woo or let him give up.
Instead, Gi-hun sees a reason for hope. He sees an opportunity. He hears, "No one calls us home anymore," and he holds his hand out immediately and says, "Let's go home."
Even if no one else will call Sang-woo home, Gi-hun will.
But Sang-woo doesn't take his hand. Sang-woo grabs the knife and takes his own life, instead, because the truth isn't really that no one calls him home anymore.
The truth is that Sang-woo is the one who stopped listening when they called.
