“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet”
— Stephen Hawking (1942-2018)
i thought depression looked like sitting in the shower, sounded like exhalation, the silence of the hour. i thought it carried the scent of worn clothes, unbrushed teeth, i’m only taught to see your symptoms, not what lies beneath. i've learned that pain is present in the loudest in the room, filling something, lacking, avoiding time alone, in gloom. i'm sorry that it took so long for the world to understand we’re not all collapsing on the floor, just asking for a hand.

The most dangerous game is resting your eyes after you turned off the alarm clock in the morning
A reminder that turning in assignments for partial credit is better than not turning them in at all. It is. Even if you think you’ve done a bad job and are ashamed of your work, or it’s way overdue, you take whatever you can get. Partial credit dramatically improves your grade over a zero, and I’m always astounded by how often even the smartest kids don’t really comprehend that. 60% is worlds better than 0%. Even 10% is going to help you. Letter grades are misleading and are not created equal. “F"s are mathematically valuable. Turn that late assignment in.
At Target this lady told her son he couldn’t have a Wonder Woman doll because “that’s for girls” and then bought her daughter the same one. It got me thinking about how often I see people bar young boys from appreciating girls/women as protagonists and heroes, and my own experience with it as a kid.
He is not the sun. You are.

We need people in our lives with whom we can be as open as possible. To have real conversations with people may seem like such a simple, obvious suggestion, but it involves courage and risk.

I feel like I should help spread the news about the events occurring in Oaxaca, Mexico right now. In Nochixtlan, a small city in the state of Oaxaca, is under military and police attack following teacher-led protests against the privatization of public education and the other harms to the education system. Many teachers, students, parents, townsfolk, and protestors are being hurt, taken away, and murdered. People are being denied treatment in hospitals–most likely a police tactic to suppress the protestors. A member of my family has been killed.
So far, military aggression has escalated.
The Oaxaca government is corrupt and the education “reforms” in Mexico are hurting the poor and ethnic groups of not just the Mixteca but of all Mexico. With censorship being a thing for Mexican social media, this is my minuscule contribution to raising awareness to the situation.
I saw the picture of the antisocial and asocial and I'm a little confused still. What's the difference ?
Asocial refers to someone who is not sociable, avoids interactions with others, and might not conform to normal standards for social behaviour.
Antisocial can refer to Antisocial Personality Disorder, or someone who is hostile or disruptive to society, with a disregard for the well-being of others.
