Entanglement

Rocket no longer had the energy to care. He was weak from hunger; his food ran out five days ago. His mouth felt tacky, his tongue sticky and too heavy in his mouth. Rocket opened his last remaining water pouch and drank a few sips. It took all of his willpower not to down the lot in one go, but he resealed the pouch and set it carefully on the floor. So far, he’d greatly extended his survival by rationing what meager supplies were available to him. The force of habit is hard to break, so was the urge to think of his friends. Are my friends there now? Into the forever and beautiful sky?

Peter Quill is the type of guy to randomly drop little pieces of Ravager lore on the Guardians and then continue on like nothing happened, like when your dad reveals hes wanted in five countries type shit and Guardians always get whiplash like… shit. I forgot hes a ravager. Like-

Rocket: hey you ever been to Trivida? Looks nice Peter: oh yeah i've been. Really pretty place. One time a few guys thought itd be funny to stick me in a burlap sack, so cliche right? I just wanted to learn how to fly.  The words lurch in his memory; in his heart and his stomach. If she were gonna be around longer — if he had more time with her— He’s never tried to teach anyone anything and he can’t imagine he’s good at it. Or maybe that’s not quite true; he’d tried to teach A95 and L06 some stuff when they’d been in the cages together, back when he’d been as hopeful and stupid as pearl herself. They hadn’t had an easy time grasping what he was trying to help them learn, though, and since — since them — he’s never really tried. Not beyond explaining to Tullk and the Ravager captain about some of the repairs and modifications he’d made to the Eclector. But Tullk and the Captain had gotten it, hadn’t they? Maybe he could teach her to fly, after all, if they had a little more time— Because if there’s one thing he can understand, it’s wanting to get off the ground and into the beautiful and forever. Wanting to feel untethered from gravity, unstitched from the soil. Loose and free of pain, able to go anywhere a person had the money and heart to go. The first time he’d felt the yoke cradled in his palms, he’d known what it was to finally have his life in his own hands— No, he reminds himself firmly. For her own sake and safety — and for his sanity — she has to go. As soon as possible.

sometimes you just have to have a chapter to get you from point A to point B. it's so hard to make these chapters GOOD so i'm sorry if it sucks and i hope you enjoyed it at least a lil. more angst to come in chapter seven, some comfort to balance the hurt in chapter eight, and a few anime-style "beach" episodes before we get moving into more plot-heavy chapters. thanks for being part of this with me. the support has been deeply, deeply appreciated. ♡

What I love about Rocket is the 100% sass on the boy. This line is perfection.

Even in alternate universes, like my Entanglement, he would still say this about Quill. Even and maybe especially, if he was in a romantic relationship with Quill. Just because the lil guy loves someone, doesn’t mean that the constant burns, insults, and grumpiness ever stop.

Instead, she leans forward, her fingers curling over her  bare toes, her knees pinned between her chest and the starpane. And her eyes — her eyes are suddenly big and glossy and wet, gemstone-tears suddenly balanced on her lower lashes. It feels like someone’s broken through all his ribs, gripping his heart in a vibranium fist. “Don’t make me stay on Cyxlore,” she says softly. “I won’t try to make you take me if you — if you really don’t want to. But I’d rather be here. With you.” A soft inhale. “Please.” His stomach drops out. You ready to beg yet? he suddenly remembers asking her on the rain-slick floor of her Arete cage. Well. Here she is, begging, and he’ll be an ass if he ignores it. And an ass if he accepts it.  The line of her nose and cheeks gleam with starlight. The blanket around her shoulders shifts down, pinned between her back and the cold metal wall, and the soft curves of her breasts press against her thighs. The Monster can see the shape of them, rounded and squished at her sides through the sleeveless armholes and under the edge of his too-small Sneepers shirt.  She’s so far away, and he can see her dying all over again. Lylla on the floor of the Arete; Madame Lavenza in the rainy courtyard of HalfWorld. Haunting and haunted, cold as ghosts and skeleton-bones and lifeless stars, as distant and unreachable as the edge of the universe.  Come back to me, pretty pearl.  He swallows.
