“they call for help and before help arrives, all that remains is pieces. no survivors, no goods taken, only destroyed." she looks up at him, well aware of the impossibility of what she's about to say – but it fits her theory of the motives not inherently being political. “what's even odder is that they seem to continue on their trajectory, moving closer to their destinations, rather than turning around or pausing. these are merchant ships, they aren't…fast.”
she adjusts in her seat, turning to look at the pacing jedi master. for someone who was supposed to exemplify patience and grace, the cracks sure were showing today. “do you remember about seven years ago, the trouble the pyke syndicate got into with their activities on black rock? lost a headquarters and many members, if i recall correctly."
the baron grott had used varl's moon to breed deadly predators capable of surviving in space without an atmosphere or protection - the same creatures that drove the hutt's out of their original star system, which was then abandoned by the pyke syndicate after these events. the competitive games turned into a massacre for the attendees and competitors when the “hungry hands” broke loose.
“these things convince their prey to move closer, and they would have no reason to keep anything if they're just doing it for food. problem is, these merchant timelines have the republic, essentially, putting them on a feeding schedule." she lets that sink in, and then continues, "and another question; how did they get there?”
"we do - which is why this is quite alarming." obi-wan pointedly ignored his newfound ally's demand, continuing to pace across the floor of the ship. he was missing something. his assistance in this endeavour was to put a stop to the pirates in question - but obi-wan's initial investigations had come up with nothing concrete. there was no evidence of theft, which would have been the goal of a group of marauders targeting a trade route. there was only pure destruction to be found, and splintered resources drifting through open space.
he might have expected the separatists to be involved, but there was no sign of their influence either. this attack felt entirely too... random. there was more to the situation than met the eye. he felt it. he was sure of it.
as for what it was, well - that was the rub, wasn't it? he did not know. he hoped someone like maggie might be able to help him detect the anomalies, but their slow progress grated on his nerves like water over stone, wearing away his faculties at a frustratingly steady pace.
"who else would benefit from the destruction of such valuable goods? if not pirates, or separatists, then who?"
@seaprofound whispered : how does your muse handle having to confront someone? does your muse have any escapist behaviors? does your muse experience wanderlust? where would they go? ( heeeey, welcome back !! )
𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 has , for maggie , gotten much easier over the years of her life . she used to be much more her father's daughter — running away from anything as soon as it could possibly turn to conflict , especially about her . but as she's gotten older , and found beings that she would fight for ( their safety , their happiness , their relationship , etc. ) she's grown into not shying away from it .
now , the way she handles confrontation isn't always the healthiest , but it depends on the circumstances . sometimes a little psychological manipulation is what you need to grease the wheels of progress , you know ? or straight up threats .
but only when she needs to . she just … has a very short fuse when it comes to her family .
𝒆𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒔𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒓𝒔 are part and parcel of what make maggie who she is . whether it's through the use of substances , including her powers / domain , or through physically removing herself from responsibilities to go off and do literally anything else , she definitely has them . her whole “coming of age” era was entirely running away from responsibility and recognition — solely escapist behaviors . she's gotten better now , no longer with one foot out the door . she's just conveniently standing next to the door , that's all .
tying to that , 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒕 is also something that makes maggie who she is . she loves the mortal world , loves traveling and learning new trends , eating new foods , experiencing new art . everything about the mortal world is so precious to her , and she does love to explore it , usually using her mirrors these days , but again ; even before all that , she traveled extensively .
in terms of divine realms , she's also very curious and loves to see new places , but she knows to be more restrained / respectful in those locations . they aren't hers , and they are an intimate space , so she does temper herself more than when in the mortal world .
maggie has a lot of predator animal fear in her childhood, being raised by lions (seeing the acts they commit in exacting detail to survive and even collaborating and helping and committing those acts as well, and knowing if this is what they can do, at their scale, what happens if one of them hurts another, or worse, adopts the presence of a larger predator like the gods and the fear that one day they will run out of resources and be forced to turn on each other because there is scarcity in all times) but as she gets older it really does turn more into prey animal rage (because she never was a lion in the first place. she was a fox, at best. a hare, most likely. designed to run and be cunning and out think her circumstances and hating hating hating her circumstances that were constructed long before she was born, the murderous rage and desperation to never again be in that trap of an island, literally or metaphorically) and i think that's neat :)
When would be the first time that little Maggie begins to trust Ariadne? What is their eventual familial relationship like? (Ari loves her so much)
ohhh the first time maggie really begins to trust ariadne would be probably around when she's starting to hit that early puberty , changes are beginning to happen and i feel like crying all the damn time , era . because she needs a woman who gets it - hermes & pan , love them to death , but they aren't really that helpful .
ari ( and dio , but this isn't about him ) have lived through this process before and can approach with empathetic experience , not just sympathetic words . it helps immensely that ari takes what she says seriously , as was established when maggie was younger .
maggie feels listened to , and not just because she's being funny or commanding attention . ari teaches maggie that her words , desires , and experiences are worth respecting and showing even when it is not rooted in entertaining others . especially when it's not rooted in entertaining others . ari helps maggie find her voice .
i think , opposed to pan , maggie can't sub ari in as her mother . because she has those memories — she sees her mother every time she looks in the mirror , ffs — and she can't shake them . she knows where she came from .
but ari , to use a meme , isn't the stepmom ( duh ) but rather the mom who stepped up . and so while maggie calls her aunty ari , and that is her relation , she also is using aunty in the way one would give respect to an older woman , regardless of relationship .
as maggie grows into an adult , especially after her rehab and in-patient experiences , she circles back to ari , ready to actually internalize her lessons and teachings .
and , most importantly , to finally feel worthy of such things .
@singofus asked : "Mom! My new friend I made, Meadow, she said that she knew you back in the day. Said you gave the best acid around!!" Kal looks so proud and happy all at once, glad that she inherited mom's skills for crafting good trips. ⇢ magissa ﹠ kaluciyo
erebus , 21xx .
maggie looks up at the first call from her child - a softer , hazier quality to the swirling , bubbling aura - daughter , as she runs in . it takes her a second to think back , over a century and with the drugs in her system it felt even longer , but soon the memories come to her .
meadow , a sweet girl from a blank void of a background , something maggie surely did appreciate . she was always down for a good time , loved music , loved love , and really loved maggie's fun little tabs , infused with a certain degree of intention .
maybe maggie had been casting spells after all .
she had thought a serial killer had gotten to her , honestly . but - wait .
“ well that's very sweet of her to say !! how did you two meet , anyway ? is she a shade , like , what's she up to ? i haven't seen her in a long time . ”

CHALLENGERS 2024, dir. Luca Guadagnino
@singofus whispered : Dystonia approaches mother in a humanoid form and wraps their arms around her. They have seen how much longing their mortal self has for this interaction, and so it has made them wish for a hug from their mother in this form all the more.
𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 . 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 . 𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒓𝒚 . 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒆 . the flavors and sensations of her eldest's aura wash over her , her eyes growing wider in mirrored distress . is this how they are feeling ? how can she help ?
she rises from her garden bed , dirt on her bare knees , her hands dusting each other off as the small nicks and cuts heal themselves in record time . she is … surprised , to see them venturing towards her in a humanoid form . their upset must not be too much — she has no doubt they would resemble a much different form should that be the case .
more teeth ; more ink ; less sanity .
she coos softly as she feels the upset shift to desperation aimed at her , followed by relief as they connect . tan arms wrap around her child , pulling them closer as she lets them take comfort from her . she tilts her head so they can bury their face into her shoulder , tall as they are .
maggie has some suspicions as to why dys is upset , but they can tell her in their own time . they are one of her more sensitive ones ; she won't push where they may not want to be pushed .
( in this , at least . )
“ miss me ? ” she murmurs , as if her realm experiences any celestial light brighter than starlight , around the clock . “ or did you have a long night ? ”
her own aura is wrapped around them , warm wings of protective love .

help , here — lend a hand .
just a moment , if i may —
i stand up for sense & justice .
do make certain you meet with success .
such a day for such a sad farewell .
this is such a silly game .
be a sport & stop complaining !
play along , you must .
forgive me , i didn’t know .
we haven’t heard your name yet , friend .
you need some manners .
if we could speak alone ?
how much have your superiors bothered to tell you ?
you are horribly old - fashioned , aren’t you ?
feel free to form your own opinion , though it appears you already have .
it seems i’ve made matters worse .
i’ll leave you to your business .
excuse me … i should apologize .
is it me , or are you this nervous around all women ?
do be a dear & tell me all about it .
sounds like an extraordinary place to live a life .
there is no such thing as magic .
to call a person superstitious is to imply they fear magic .
poets have silly notions .
you do believe me now , don’t you ?
you need less big words , & more common sense .
what the hell are you doing ?
i am not here for revenge . i am here to bring justice .
i manage fine alone .
i deserve to help you . don’t you see how much this means ?
what are you spying on ?
i beg you , no more , please .
i will not allow it . i will not !
why was i not told of this ?
you should step outside .
sorry for disturbing you . i thought a forgotten candle was burning .
having trouble sleeping ?
i have something to show you , if you have a moment .
these scars . how did you get them ?
oh , you are hopeless .
i have a gift for you . true magic which even you will not be able to deny .
are you saying i should be frightened ?
what will it take for you to realize this is no laughing matter ?
don’t be afraid … don’t be afraid .
you promised justice . people have put their trust in you .
why would you do such a thing ?
leave me . you are not welcome here .
allow me some time .
the things i said to you before … i was wrong to say them .
every word you spoke had truth in it .
if you want me to go , i will . do you want me to leave ?
i no longer know what i think or what i feel .
why are you so afraid ? is there truly such harm in uncertainty ?
i should be going … good day to you .
i’m one of the few people who likes you .
i apologize if i worried you .
my god … what has happened ?
yes , i did notice that , thank you .
i am a bad habit . there’s nothing for it .
don’t let him get you .
lay still , [ name ] . do not move .
i’m drawing bad blood from the wound .
you were half - drowned when they found you .
i serve a fine purpose alive .
midnight seems an appropriate time .
hide in my room & bolt the door til i return .
i was getting worried .
do you have anything to clean it with ?
i know you saw me .
i know you followed me last night .
i appreciate your concern .
you are so upset now … & yet , you seemed in such good spirits last night .
why have i not seen your face for so long ?
i have been reading your journal .
what would you have me believe ?
if you think i am behind this , say it .
call me a liar , then , & a murderer .
what is stopping you ? what has happened to your ability to transcend sentimentality ?
don’t dare stand looking as if you still care for me , after all that you have said .
if i were to confess , would that ease your suffering ? would that make it easier for you to hate me ?
the next person to lay hands on me will have a bullet .
you do not know all that has happened .
why … why are you like this ?
to hell with this place & all the people here .
won’t you change your mind ? what can i say to convince you ?
take me with you . there’s nothing left for me here .
forgive me . i failed you .
you … you’re alive .
no one will believe your lies .
i am not going to kill you . not me …
you cannot kill what is already dead .
