Ok so I haven’t watched the new hbomberguy video nor have I been involved in much of the discourse that was discussed but I feel like there’s something that needs to be said.

James Somerton saying that AIDS is the reason there are only boring gay people?

That’s so fucked up

Not only does he mitigate the traumatic impact that the HIV/AIDS epidemic had on the queer community and the political ostracization/demonization that resulted from it

He’s also just feeding into the stereotype that queer identity revolves around sex and sex alone. That we can’t have families, can’t have happy lives, can’t exist without inherently being sexual. And that’s what the right wing feeds off of to make the propaganda that is the reason why so many of us fear losing our basic human rights

And I get it that wasn’t the point of the video

The point of the video was to prove how plagiarism can be subtle and hurtful and erase people who should be uplifted

But I also feel like this needs to be said
