I'M LOSING MY MIND what is the point of "dig in there mr. spock" ? why did they write that??? spock regularly gives jim massages? in public? on the bridge???WHAT? whY? why does he stop her when he realizes it's NOT spock???? it's somehow more professional that way?! was it for laughs?? Perhaps it’s the aro/ace in me, but I have never seen the question of Kirk and Spock’s relationship as a question of having sex. I don’t really see that as relevant to them (besides maybe Pon Farr).

They love each other and whether they are romantically involved or not has always seemed more connected to their explicit acknowledgement of it rather than anything else.

I am not saying that they don’t have a physical relationship. I just kind of… don’t think about it as an important issue. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the innuendos and looks and touches in TOS and they are absolutely relevant to the interpretation of Kirk/Spock. I just see it as highly reductionist to present that conversation as being about sex rather than the deep love and partnership the two of them share.

And this has nothing to do with fanfiction and it’s not about edits or memes or headcanons. I think we should generally allow each other to interact with fiction the way it works for us. It’s more about the way society equates sex with romantic love when that just isn’t the case.

Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan spoilers!

I watched TWoK for the first time today.

It’s also the first time I cried when watching a movie.

I got spoiled one time, and knew Spock was going to die.

I later learned that it was going to be in TWoK.

Yet even with that knowledge, something about this scene, and the scenes following it, just hurts. (That’s great writing, of course)

Spock, Kirk and McCoy’s friendship is something that has warmed my heart since I started watching Star Trek. It’s such a special bond.

To see it affected in such a way…

One of my best friends reminds me of Spock, so to associate that person so strongly to him definitely helped invoke an emotional reaction from me.

“I have been—and always shall be—your friend”

Man, did that line hit hard.
