Having a bit of fun making hangers-on for my Necromunda gangs.
Sextus Udo is the rogue doc assisting Hark and Nav (my Locked Tomb themed Escher gang).
Knot Toogrots is a totally normal human fungus farmer.
I've only seen the Christmas Specials, but this series really does poke gently at the heartstrings. Sure, it's a small celebration of craftwork, technique, tools and inspiration as a half dozen experts carefully fix some old stuff, but... it's always about who's old stuff it was. Grandad's chess set, granny's paintings.
what fucks me up is that “the repair shop” is loudly about restoring objects but quietly (or not so quietly) about grief and memory
one of the more bleak things to acknowledge is that if you pirate literally all of your music and then set aside a spotify subscription's worth of money each month to spend on a single pay-what-you-want album, it would almost immediately amount to you supporting those musicians more than streaming does
the whole "sao just awakens the 'i can fix her'-instinct in people"- thing is so fucking funny to me because literally not even the author is immune
reki kawahara really looked at his own novels and said "i can fix her" and that's why the sao progressive novels exist now
something about this story just does that to people, it's great!
I remain a massive fan of the incredibly gutsy decision to have the big finale fight of season 1 not be a big flashy aerial sword-duel, but an old man with a box-cutter vs a kid who had to relearn how to walk a few months ago. (that said Asuna-Yuuki is a masterclass in combat-characterisation. Not just Asuna and Yuuki's personalities shining though how they fight, but the reactions of their friends being reminded that Asuna is That Damn Good, and Kirito's smile because... Kirito always knew she could fight like that)
do you guys think there’s a fight that’s universally loved and hyped up by the sao fandom
yuuki konno is genuinely such an important character to me
like i don't talk about her often but frankly that's mostly because im struggling with how to phrase it more than anything
there's just something about her as a character within the greater narrative of sao
like there's this dumb criticism some people have against sao where they'll call it a power fantasy and kirito an op mary sue protagonist but then there's yuuki
zekken. the absolute sword. this girl whose introduction is simply "she's the best at it". no gimmicks. no tricks. no "buts". she just wins
and this is never challenged
and it can't be challenged ever again, because she dies, even though she never loses
yuuki konno, doomed from birth, optimistic despite herself, despite the world she can no longer exist in. and without even knowing she laid the groundwork for an entire new world of people she'll never meet, but helped create regardless
there's no overpowered protagonist at the top. there never was. that spot forever belongs to a terminally ill lesbian girl who tried to live as much as she could before her time ran out all too quickly
The trick I hit on was to always contribute. Always ask questions. Offer opinions. Clarify acronyms.
Surprisingly quickly I stopped getting invited to meetings I didn't need to be in.
One day I'll actually play these, rather than just listen to the OST on repeat!
lahore pigeons are some of the most visually appealing birds out there. like in terms of visual design. very minimalist, good contrast.
I think it's funny that in French the word for "unicorn" is "licorne" because:
The word "unicorne" was first reanalyzed as "une icorne"
The definite article was then added, making it "l'icorne"
The new definite form was reanalyzed once again, resulting in "une licorne"
The whole Weakness Of The Flesh Immortality Of The Machine conversation is fun... I really appreciate the point that in the modern real world technology is controlled by an ever-rotating pile of tech companies whose business model is predicated on obsoleting everything older than like 4 years. If you, the person reading this, managed to upload your consciousness to a file, it would struggle to interact and be read in, like, 10 years max. And if you rely on medical aids that are connected to computers and the internet, you are already facing that problem.
All that said, I cannot stress enough that obsolescence is not an issue for the in-universe source of the whole "from the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh" quote
"Beware he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master."
