Brotherlove and Support
Russians moving to Mariupol are ordinary Russians. Those ordinary Russians are taking pics with destroyed homes in the background, they wear propagandist shirts. They climb up them ruins and make videoblogs.
Ordinary Russians are adopting deported children. They don't care those children have been stolen from homes. They lie that their parents gave them up. They are horrified those stolen children speak Ukrainian as an act of rebellion.
Ordinary Russians are supporting Putin. They believe they are the better than others, that God is helping them.
Ordinary Russians are working on the ammo factories and produce shells and bullets and bombs. Those are all ordinary Russians.
Ordinary Russians leave thousands of comments cheering to our deaths and tragedies. Deaths and tragedies done by their fucking country and by their fathers brothers and sons. Who also are, you know, ordinary Russians.
Me: "jesus christ the adult pro heroes fucking suck lol"
You: "um sweaty, this is a shounen manga of course the adults are useless-"
See, that's a perfectly valid meta answer. This genre is centered around the young male protagonist and his friends, of course they're going to be in the spotlight for the majority of the series.
But from an in-universe perspective, imagine watching a group of cops or soldiers stand around uselessly as a pair of teenagers fought a god. Whether he meant to or not, All Might's reign as Number 1 made every other hero complacent and useless in situations where their Quirks don't apply. None of them (except Aizawa) even carry any weapons to help in a fight.
I'm not dissing your fave pros because there's nothing they can do. I'm dissing the adult heroes because they knew full well they were going into a war, and none of them thought to bring a gun. I'm dissing them because they brought teenagers onto a battlefield and now have no choice but to hide behind them due to their own incompetence. They knew about the nomu and Gigantomachia and chose not to mobilise a military unit for this raid; this is entirely the fault of the HPSC, and every other pro who stood by and said nothing against the children getting involved.
This is a shounen manga. But there's a world within this manga, and the adults of this world fucked up big time.

🦁Leona Kingscholar
Leona first noticed Y/n's confident and strong presence at a beach party he hosted. Intrigued by her aura, he couldn't help but feel a surge of frustration when she declined his offer of a drink with a playful smile. Determined to capture her attention, he decided to play it cool and nonchalant while trying to flirt and tease her throughout the evening. Despite the rejections, he found himself irresistibly drawn to Y/n's personality and her ability to hold her ground. As the party came to an end, he mustered up the courage to approach her in person, confessing his genuine interest and desire to go out with her. To his delight, Y/n smiled and accepted his sincere invitation, and their love story began under the starry night sky. Leona and Y/n are the proud parents of one daughter, Zahra. Despite Leona's arrogance and occasional lack of effort in things that don't interest him, he dotes on Zahra with surprising tenderness and care. Y/n supports and admires Leona's incredible talent in magic, often encouraging him to teach Zahra some of his skills. They create a loving and structured environment for their daughter.
🍩Ruggie Bucchi
Ruggie was enchanted by Y/n's captivating appearance as he saw her working out at the gym. Drawn to her strength and determination, he found himself mesmerized as she handled the weights effortlessly. However, he felt a bit unsure about how to approach her, considering her confident and dominant demeanor. He admired her self-assured nature and found it appealing. One day, as he saw Y/n needing a towel, he gathered his courage and offered her one with a bashful smile. Y/n's appreciation for his gesture and smile put him at ease, allowing them to strike up a conversation that revealed a shared interest in spending time together.
Ruggie and Y/n have a full house with four rambunctious boys. Their sons, Hami, Jengo, Kondo, and Kanu, keep their home lively and energetic. While Ruggie might mainly look out for himself, he is fiercely protective of his family. Y/n's resourcefulness and quick adaptability help manage the chaos, and they all enjoy fun-filled family moments, especially during meal times. Together, they raise their sons to be adventurous and self-reliant.
🐺Jack Howl
Jack's cold exterior softened whenever Y/n was around, and he couldn't help but be intrigued by her caring and genuine nature. At first, he tried to act aloof and distant, but his tail gave away his true feelings with every wag whenever he saw her. Despite his attempts to hide his emotions, he found himself longing for Y/n's company and the warmth she brought to the ones around her. He saw her interacting with his siblings at the school where she worked, he couldn't resist joining the conversation. Y/n's kind words about his family touched his heart, and he found himself opening up to her and asking her on a date.
Jack and Y/n have a sizable brood, consisting of five children. Their four boys, Ben, Leo, Clyde, and Felix, share their father's strong sense of justice and intelligence. The youngest addition to their family, a little girl named Rosie, brings a touch of femininity and harmony to their household. Jack's tsundere personality softens when he interacts with his children, and Y/n loves watching him be a caring and loving father.
🐙Azul Ashengrotto Azul was convinced he was sly and smooth in his attempts to impress Y/n during a business exchange, but she saw through his facade with ease. Her sharp wit and perceptive nature impressed him, leaving him both intrigued and slightly flustered. As they continued to interact, Azul couldn't help but admire Y/n's ability to see beyond his suave exterior. Despite his attempts to cover up his attraction with “contracts”, Y/n saw the real feelings in his eyes, and her open acceptance of him made him feel captivated by her.
Azul and Y/n have a single daughter named Coral, who brings immense joy and pride to their lives. Despite Azul's calculating demeanor, he adores his daughter and ensures she experiences the best of everything. Y/n's understanding and support help Coral navigate her world with confidence and grace. They foster an environment of learning and creativity, allowing Coral to grow into a strong and independent young lady.
🍄Jade Leech
Jade first met Y/n while seeking shelter from a thunderstorm in a cafe. Her naive and open nature intrigued him, and he decided to have a little fun by trying to get her riled up with his questions. However, he soon discovered that she was refreshingly candid and open, unafraid to share her thoughts and feelings. Her genuine and trusting personality sparked an unexpected interest in Jade, as he found her innocence both charming and endearing. As they spent more time together, Y/n's genuine nature began to soften Jade's cunning exterior, and he found himself wanting to be more open with her too about his feelings.
Jade and Y/n's family consists of two Irish twin daughters, Jerlene and Janiece. Despite Jade's manipulative nature and ulterior motives, he has a soft spot for his daughters. Y/n is not easily fooled by his schemes and keeps a watchful eye on the well-being of their children. They raise their daughters with intelligence and cunning, knowing that they will need such skills to navigate the world.
👟Floyd Leech Floyd's quirky and eccentric behavior didn't faze Y/n when she had him as a nurse during his hospital stay. She approached her duties with confidence and kindness, taking care of him with utmost professionalism. Despite his unconventional antics, Y/n treated him with patience and understanding, and he couldn't help but feel a growing fondness for her. Over time, he brought her little rocks as tokens of appreciation for her care, and Y/n was touched by the thoughtful gesture. As they spent more time together, Y/n's presence brightened Floyd's days, and he couldn't resist sticking around her because being with her made him genuinely happy.
Floyd and Y/n have a diverse duo in their family – a son named Jason and a daughter named Marie. Floyd's mood swings and unpredictability can sometimes be challenging, but Y/n's adaptability helps maintain a stable and loving home. They encourage their children's interests and passions, creating an environment where Jason and Marie can explore and grow freely.

Seriously, Mr. Hyunch and Stolas couldn't anymore the opposite of each other if they had to be. Stolas is a privileged asshole who always whines how hard life is for him, while Mr. Hyunch is a immigrant working class man who kept the sadness of his past to himself until he opened up to Arnold about it. They do have one similarity is they both have a daughter but how they handled being a father is different.
Stolas for most of her life was a good father, until he decided to wreck his home life by cheating on his wife which has caused all sorts of tension between him and Octavia. Despite the narrative trying to say how much of a loving father he is, after the affair begins he focuses more and more on Blitzo rather than her to the point it feels like empty words. It gets to the point that in the second to last episode of the season we see him say he can't live without Blitzo to the point he was willing to be executed for his sake which on paper looks selfless but he essentially broke his promise as a father he would always be there for his daughter and this just shows how much he's discarded Octavia in the forethought of his mind.
Despite Mai only getting prominence in the Christmas episode, this really demonstrated what type of father he was. The guy not only before he gave up Mai was raising her in Vietnam as a single working class father but during the Vietnam War. He even tried to get a plane out of their so they wouldn't be caught up in the fall of Saigon and when he couldn't get both of them out he decided to do the hardest thing a parent could do which is give her up so she can have a better life. Even though he knew this meant he wouldn't know how long they would be apart, he was just thinking of her safety. And again this man probably had endure the worst that Communist Vietnam had to offer during those 20 years of separation before finally getting out. But I can imagine the hope one day he could see his daughter in America would get him through.
Although both lose contact with their daughter due to circumstances, Stolas loses Octavia because of his own self-destructive actions that are never condemned by the narrative and ultimately he's a selfish person whose always putting his wants before her needs. This is in contrast with Mr. Huynh who did what he did because he loved his daughter so much and put her future in his mind. Although she was only seen two times in the city, we do see of her that she has grown up in a good environment because of the great sacrifice her father did. And that's why I don't see Stolas' thing as a big sacrifice because at the root of selfishness that has plagued his character and he only thought about Octavia once he was banished. He wasn't fully putting her as a priority until after he had to deal with the consequences of defending Blitzo. If he was executed then he really didn't need to think about anything, which again shows how much he didn't think of her in that instance. Ultimately, Mr. Hyunch shows what an example of a selfless father is in contrast with a selfish one like Stolas.
The Himura resented the upheaval of the pre-quirk social order that caused them to drop in status. They hated the ‘mixing of blood’ - they hated the idea of being tainted with heteromorphs.
Which is the same belief that led to Shoji being attacked for daring to touch someone. The people of his village would rather a child die then be saved by a heteromorph.
All this started because when quirks started appearing, people could not accept this change. They clung to a narrow definition of ‘humanity’ and rejected all those they viewed as not fitting into the standards.
Rejected and considered them inhuman.
And this concept continues to exists, whether as a yakuza looking to ‘cure’ people of these supernatural abilities so he can return humanity to ‘normal’,
or as prison guards looking at their ‘wild beasts’ of inmates with utter disgust.
It’s been more than a century after the emergence of quirks, though, and the definition of humanity has been expanded to include quirks, including even heteromorphic quirks.
However, this also means that to set apart what isn’t ‘human’, new standards had to be created. New lines had to be created…
…and enforced.
There is, of course, logic to why and how and where lines are drawn! That’s just what civilization is. That’s how society functions.
Heroes defend the lines from villains that violate it.
But to the people who don’t make the cut, who are on the other side of the lines for whatever reason, they feel this rejection deeply and sharply.
And so we end up where we are right now.
As Dabi says, “Behold, the limitations of superpowered society.”
my favourite trope is “antagonist and protagonist narrowly avoiding each other in the same space” and The Emperor’s New Groove nails it perfectly I wish more media did stuff like this
