SUPER COOL INVERT SHENANIGANS
Sea urchins have modified mouth parts on the underside of their bodies called an Aristotle’s lantern. The lantern is made up of tooth-like plates that scrape up bits of food like algae, as seen here.
We specifically don’t scrub the algae in this habitat for the urchins, and I see them on the walls all the time, presumably getting a tasty meal. But I had never seen it in action before last week! Invertebrates are such cool little aliens!
This makes me think of Billy from Stranger Things, but like they did a good job of evoking sympathy for him. His memory backstory is a good example of the way toxic masculinity and abusive behavior can get passed down to its victims if left unchallenged. I mean he’s definitely a shithead but still.
a toxic dad in a tv show: *cries and shows vulnerability, in order to evoke sympathy*

2008-2011: the meme renaissance
2012-2013: meme shaming, memeing not condoned by the public and is considered unforgivable
2014-: the second meme renaissance, memeing is once again in style , the world is at peace
2015: The meme industrial era. Business is booming with the recent implementation of the new, globally accepted currency, the crisp meme buck. Pepes, which were previously considered to be rare commodities are now being manufactured and distributed at astonishing rates.
2016-???? Predictions: according to this logic, the great meme depression is just around the corner with this mass production of pepes and pepes being bought and traded on margin, economic downfall is imminent. i'd recommend storing your memes in a safe place and stockpiling them. Soon rare pepes will loose all their rarity and the GMD will start
Studies show that approaching youth with a bystander-intervention model is actually a lot more effective for reducing sexual assault, and it is also more enthusiastically received than programs that bill themselves as anti-rape.
We can tell youth that they are basically “rapists waiting to happen” (anti-rape initiative), or we can tell them that we know they would intervene if they saw harm happening to someone and we want to help empower them to do that (bystander intervention). The kids jump in with both feet for the latter! It was amazing to see children (and young boys in particular) excited to do this work and engage their creativity with it. Also, studies show that not only do they go on to intervene, but they also do not go on to sexually assault people themselves. Bystander intervention also takes the onus off the person being targeted to deter rape and empowers the collective to do something about it. It answers the question in the room when giggling boys are carrying an unconscious young woman up the stairs at a house party, and people are not sure how to respond and are waiting for “someone” to say or do something.

This is making the rounds on Twitter today, so I figured I’d share it here:
Never forget the man who put that incredulous look on Tulo’s face. He was amazing, and Tulo knew it.
