also let me tell y’all about the AU i was thinking about while falling asleep last night

imagine if nico ran into jason and thus the roman camp shortly after the end of The Titan’s Curse while he’s out on his own still learning how to demigod. like 13 year old jason stumbling across teeny 11 year old nico while out on a quest or something and at first being like “oh tiny fledgling demigod i must help”

and of course that quickly turns into an awkward “wait you’re greek???” thing followed by more awkward greek vs. roman explanations and jason is having a really hard time deciding what to do about this because yes greeks are the enemy but??? this kid clearly isn’t working with the greeks and apparently he’s pretty damn pissed at them himself and i can’t just leave him out to fend for himself jesus christ he’s apparently trying to teach himself how to fight using ghost tutors??? also hot damn another kid of the big three omg??

meanwhile nico is still a miserable angry suspicious little child but that’s still a pretty new development and he’s not quite settled into the whole loner thing yet and yeah he’s pissed at pretty much everyone and everything to do with camp half-blood but apparently the romans are different and they’ve got nothing to do with all that and it would be kinda nice to not be running from monsters all the time…

long story short jason brings nico back to camp jupiter all “can i keep him” and makes a big fuss arguing with everyone about it and in the end they won’t induct the kid into the legion or anything because he’s greek and not tested by lupa or anything buuuut okay fine he can stay as long as jason’s keeping an eye on him

rest of the series can carry on as normal but nico has a place to return to other than the underworld and a friend he can absolutely rely on and asdjhsakjsafl

With BirdFlash fic there's no way I can't recommend this one for anyone who absolutely CRAVES Birdflash. (like me DGSDH) The series is full of fluff that will leave you with diabetes and also angst thrown in to spice things up and leave you with enough suspense to make you go "OUAHGGHHH!!!" There's SO much to unpack and honestly I cannot tell you enough to check this out if you haven't yet. The characterization is written amazingly well and feels very in character, the atmosphere and writing is fuckin GREAT and really makes you feel the PUNCH of words to really sell the FEELINGS. Some chapters in the series has smut so do with that as you will. But yA, the writing is top notch I’d say :D

Anyone who enjoys hurt/comfort Birdflash might like this! There’s angst and some fluff with happy end is enough to satisfy. :] The writing here is again very enjoyable and just like Watercolors, the narration is quite nice as well. At least I think so! Give these a read and maybe check other works of theirs too since there’s a handful of work that could interest you!

This fic is one of if not the best one I’ve read so far and I’m on my way to re-reading this again :] Talon!Dick beloved <3 🥺🥺🥺 HIGHLY recommend this one cause it will feed you for days.

The Robin Who Forgot How To Fly by Evergreena

A Young Justice fic that also has Batman where Robin loses his memories and shit goes DOWN. Like, not DOWN down kind of down bad, but like enough to make you go “OH SHIT-” or “OH NO-”. There’s comedy, there’s bonding, there’s Robin and the team overall being badass, and even Barbara! And of course there’s angst but the ending is quite hopeful! Give this a read for sure if this pique your interest! It certainly did with me! :D Robin’s word play is also present, which is absolutely asterous

AKA Dick gets kidnapped (Again). This one is pretty recent but I’ve enjoyed it so far!! I hadn’t got the chance to finish it yet, but I love the writing here and the lil bit of suspense put in here. Be sure to check tags since it features kidnapping and some canon-typical violence from what I’ve remembered.

Injustice au but Dick doesn’t get bonked to death. I liked the interaction Damian has here with Dick, and it’s honestly really sweet ;w; I hadn’t got to finish this one either, but I’m doing my best to catch up! The writing is very yummy and has some funny moments throw in with the angst and some family bonding.

Short fic with Battinson Batman and Robin! I’ve not seen the movie (I WANT TO SO BADLY-) but even if you haven’t seen the movie, you’ll still enjoy this lil fic of Batman’s interaction with 9 year old Robin. Absolutely sweet and warm like a big ol blanket wrapped around you. Or in this case, Batman’s cape wrapped around you while he gives you a lil head pat kind of warmth.

Hey you want some angst? There's some really cool art done by hannahblock-art that has Danny in an "anti ecto casket" so please consider. Jason is just driving home from a mission or something and is passing through some woods about an hour outside Gothem when he suddenly feels something brush up against his mind, not unlike a Martian, and the voice is crying for help. Jason nearly crashes his bike when it happens and quickly turns around to figure out what the fuck just happened.

Jason follows the pull and quiet cries for help through the woods and into an old, old cemetery. After all, the Fenton parents couldn't bury what was left of their baby so close to the portal a spoon would surely get his body. Jason follows the pull until he is standing over a fresh grave with no headstone and he realizes the pull is coming from below him.

First of all, this is the art mentioned.

Second, this is so good and I have so many questions. First: did Danny die when the portal opened? Was it later in his life? If it was later, how did he die?

The idea that the portal would eventually consume his body is SUCH a good idea. The Fentons burying Danny in an unmarked grave? Even sadder. How long has Danny been in the coffin? The ground is freshly dug. I looked up how long it would take for dirt to settle and my results were very inconclusive. The main results said anywhere from 2-7 years. Years.

How long was Danny in the casket? In Gotham it’s almost always raining. The ground would at least be muddy and harder to move if it’s been less than a week. That’s just a week though. Danny is a halfa/ghost now. He’s ghosty enough to survive but weak enough that he’s unable to escape the anti ecto casket. Danny sits for…. Days? Months? Years? He was unable to tell how long he laid in the casket. It feels like it’s been weeks since he’s stopped crying. He can see from the reflective roof of the coffin that his tears glow a bright green. No matter how much he tries to scrub the tears away, the permanent green tear tracks that now mar his face continues to glow a dim unearthly green light.

When Jason finds him, what’s happened to this boy? How far does he have to dig? Is it a shallow or far deeper grave than normal? Does Jason get attacked by any anti ecto failsafe traps? What does he use to dig to Danny? How long does it take? Does the crying become more desperate and louder the closer Jason gets to the casket?

What does poor Danny hear when he’s in the casket? Is he saying words with the mind link or is it just general emotion/ideas? Has he given up speaking at this point and is it just cryingV Can he feel the mind link he sent Jason? Can he hear Jason sending back thoughts of help and the need to protect? Does he have a stable mental link that he talks back and forth and consoles and calms Danny as he’s doing his best to dig to Danny as fast as he can?

What happens when Danny gets out? This kid has been dead and is weak as hell from his attempts to escape. The lack of ectoplasm and human food has left him incredibly weak and possibly malnourished. Either way Jason scoops the boy into his arms and holds him tightly to his chest and mutters comforting words and sends “You’re Safe. It’s Ok. I’m Here. It’s Over Now. You’re Free.” as a mantra through the mind link. The boy who forever cries weeps into his shoulder as he hugs Jason much tighter than someone trapped without food or water for days should be able to. Jason isn’t worried that the boy is crying, the tears he sheds are no longer of hopelessness and grief, but one’s of relief and happiness.

Jason kisses the top of Danny’s head as he starts to drift off to sleep, wrapped in the arms of a stranger that made him feel the safest he’s felt in years. The man exudes warmth. God, Danny hasn’t felt this warm in… when’s the last time he’s felt warm? Cold seems to permanently seep itself into his bones now. In the coffin he could never escape the cold.

Jason continued to cradle Danny in his arms long after the boy went to sleep. The strange tears seemed to permanently scar and discolor tracks down his eyes and the tips of his fingers. Jason could see the green glow peeking through the cracks in his hand that covered the kids. Jason slowly got up from his kneeled position making sure to not jostle Danny.

Jason only had his bike. Thank god that Bruce designed this bike to have an near silent exhaust. Carefully maneuvering the sleeping kid onto the bike and using some grappling hook wire to ensure that the kid won’t fall off on the road, Jason gets on the bike himself and starts driving to his apartment.

In your opinion, how long would team snakemouth + team Maki + team slacker + team mothiva last if they had to fight ghost, hornet, and hollow. How fast would the entire group get steamrolled?

Oo! Fun question that makes me think

They'd probably put up a pretty good fight! Especially team Maki and Slacker since both hit like trucks (so does Holly, but I'll get to that in a second) Team Mothiva would probably be the first to get picked off, considering you beat them twice in game, so I guess they'd be the weakest out of the four? And while Zasp is fast, idk if he's quite as fast as Hornet or fast enough for Holly's teleporting. And Mothiva is wet paper at hand to hand combat.

Kabbu's weapon being his horn is probably an issue, seeing as the siblings use metal weapons that are probably made to get through shell. And seeing as most bugs aren't wearing armor, and those that are in HK you typically beat the shit out of them until they reveal the fleshy parts (False Knight) or those with shields you have to move fast enough to get around the shield.

And Kabbu, my dear, your horn is not made of metal.

Leif has the slight advantage of using mainly magic so he can stay away from the worst of the fight (same with Mothiva, another magic user, and Yunna), but I'm not sure ice would deter the siblings too too much. (Especially if we're going with my long fic where Ghost shares a body with Radi) and idk how Vi would hold up. Probably not that great. To use her weapon she has to fling it, which means it can be broken or caught when she does so, and then she's out of a weapon.

Maki himself has the misfortune of using a piece of plastic as a sword, against three bugs all using metal weapons. Team Maki and Slacker im not gonna get that far into considering I've never beaten them.

Now to the siblings

I'm gonna go with my full grown Ghost for this.

So, the Ghost has the same fighting style I do, which is hit as fast and hard as you can, tank some hits if you have the masks. And if you get overwhelmed. Descending Dark everything.

Considering none of the Bugaria bugs have AOE spells (to the best of my memory) or at least not super strong ones, both Holly and Ghost each have one AOE spell. Hornets is smaller, but id imagine it'd still really hurt to get caught up in thread that's whipping around like crazy.

But with both Ghost and Holly being decently heavy magic users as well as melee combatants, and using both rather fluidly, it'd probably take a while to figure out the tells between a blade coming for your face or a spell. Especially if you're trying to focus on taking one of them down and the other either blindsides you or uses a spell. There's also the fact that both are tall and aside from maybe going for the fleshy part of their joints, most of their vulnerable points are above your head. Especially Holly with the missing arm.

There's also Ghost's nail arts, which if they're already really tall and probably wield a weapon taller than you, are terrifying to see, especially cyclone slash. So they could probably hop away from the fight for a moment for whatever reason, charge up an attack, and then suddenly they'd be in the middle of the fight and probably hitting sever bugs with one swipe.

Holly also has some generally large, sweeping swipes that would probably hit several bugs, as well as the ability to teleport. The teleporting and Ghost just generally being able to dash through attacks would probably throw you off pretty quick.

Hornet is the non magic user of the three, which isn't really too big of a deal cause all three are mainly melee fighters. She has the joy of setting up traps on the fly. And while Ghost can fly, she'd probably wind up being mostly airborne in this fight. With there being areas she can probably haul herself up off the ground, it probably wouldn't be too surprising for her to not be there one second, and suddenly someone is nearly speared the next second. But also it would be amusing if she could wrap her string around someone and use that to toss them, maybe to Ghost or Holly.

Both her and Holly will occasionally block and parry hits, the siblings mostly focus on trying to get hit as little as possible, and just having to deal with it when they do get hit.

(I would ramble on Hornet more but I've been largely avoiding SilkSong trailers cause I would like to go into it as blind as possible.)

Now the Bugaria bugs are probably tankier, seeing as dodging isn't an option in game and you just block hits. So the siblings would most likely have to hit, be blocked, and then move fast enough to get an actual hit in before their attacks can be blocked again. And the teams have the virtue of being, well, teams, and having stronger moves that rely on working with each other while the siblings tend to be loners and are probably more competitive with each other.

All that said, the Teams would put up a good fight! But they'd still get steamrolled faster than their normal fights. After all, this is ten against three.

But it's ten against two godlings, one with ages of protecting a dead kingdom against thieves and infected bugs that have no issue hitting as hard as possible. The other godling being born and raised and trained by the kingdoms best knights to contain an angry, bitter goddess, and even when infected, still had the strength to fight back against her.

And also against the young god of gods, who ascended when much smaller and weaker. And is also a certified gremlin.

This is all negated if someone breaks Ghost's mask and let's out the Lord of Shades. Then everyone has a whole nother problem.

Summary: Something is very wrong in Hallownest.

The Hollow Knight wakes up outside the Temple of the Black Egg. Hornet feels a shift in the kingdom from all the way in Greenpath. Together, the two of them discover the sacrifices each has made–and the grief neither one of them was allowed to feel.
