They act like they don’t care, but we all know they’re just avoiding a massive emotional explosion.
One of them starts to spill their feelings, then clams up like, “Uh, never mind…” Cue the frustration.
One character throws out something super personal like it’s no big deal, but you can tell the other one’s like, “Wait, what?”
They let something slip that they were totally not ready to share, and then they freeze like, “Did I just say that?”
The “I’m fine” smile (but they’re not). One gives this shaky smile that doesn’t fool anyone, especially the other character.
They almost grab each other’s hand or hug, then they hesitate, and the moment passes. UGH, so frustrating!
One of them’s on the verge of tears but is trying sooo hard not to lose it. You can feel how much it hurts.
They talk about literally everything except the thing that’s actually bothering them. So. Annoying.
They used to be shoulder to shoulder, but now they’re standing a whole three feet apart like something big changed.
One’s suddenly acting like they barely know the other, being all polite and formal, and you just know there’s more going on.
Dogs have had many jobs throughout history, in this case: Revenge.
This short post is for those who think that they might be so focused on writing trauma well that they accidentally forget to write an actual character.
As someone who has an "interest" (read: deeply passionate and completely consuming dedication) for psychology and character analysis, I feel like sometimes writers don't really know how to write a character with trauma.
To quote a quote:
Don't Write A Traumatized Character, Write A Character With Trauma
I'm just trying to talk about those situations where the only interesting thing that we ever learn about this character is the fact that they have trauma and that's sad.
People tend to think that PTSD and trauma in general is just:
sit in dark, crying inconsolably about death
have nightmares
hide the fact that you have PTSD with broodiness
try to revenge
die tragically or happy ever after
Remember: Nobody has time for that
These people have obligations, responsibilities, family members, loved ones, and dreams that don't allow for this type of lifestyle.
Many people with PTSD *seem* like standard members of society. They sometimes participate in community activities. They have hobbies and vague interests that they put on their dating profile but don't really care about.
People with PTSD and trauma are interesting REGARDLESS of their trauma and trauma-related bullshit, not because.
If the only thing that's interesting about a character is what something else did to your character, it's not really interesting.
What's their dreams?
What do they like to eat in the morning?
What's their values?
Stop Trying TO ANSWER These Important Questions With:
"don't care :3 trauma will make this character complete :D"
ohhh october be kind. on god be kind
If you could grow an extra body part, what would it be and why?
Probably a heart because lots of people need heart transplants and not too many are available and I could give it to someone.
"Think you can keep up, Little Buddy?" "With a muzzled hound? Worry about yourself, V.IV."
The zoomed out, complete render by @mfdraws! This time featuring V.IV Rusty! Check out more of their work here and here.
I've had a scenario in my head forever of Ziyi cornering Rusty for answers because she's still not in the know, but before she can get him to talk the two are ambushed by the PCA or Balam and have to fight their way out together.
My Little Pony book with a death spell inside. Yes, it most definitely came home with me
my bravest knighttt... come hither ..... mmmwah !! ok you are dismissed
Lesbians… they are like cowboys to me, you must understand. Maybe not quite heroes, but trailblazing in the same way an outlaw or sheriff would make his life in an old western. They’re mythological. Like pirates, knights, or ESPECIALLY cowboys. I could never be a cowboy; it’s just not practical in a way that suits my lifestyle. But I admire them so. Do you understand? You must understand.
I want to watch a western movie but everyone is lesbian
now all the ladys on the floor start eroding ! *a harsh wind envelopes the club*
