There are a LOT of protests occurring in rapid succession recently, nationwide. Friday will be one close to my heart: stand up for science.
Among the many, many actions performed by the current US political administration is the dismantling and censorship of scientific institutions. I've already posted about some of these actions. If you're anywhere near as distraught as I am, this is an opportunity to show support. If you're queer, as most of my followers are, this dramatically affects you- most scientific censorship is occurring around queer research topics.
There will be events across the country: the federal capital, every state capital, and many, many local events. If you're a university student, or have a university nearby, they are most likely hosting an event.
My in person reach is fairly limited. I'll be attending my university's rally in a fairly isolated college town, and I'm not an organizer or anything.
What does matter, however, is numbers nationwide. Americans need to show that they support our scientific institutions: the ones that keep us healthy, keep our water clean, fuel our wonder for the cosmos, and so, so much more. If I can persuade at least a couple of you to make a showing with my online reach, then I'll have accomplished my goal.
Thank you to everyone in the wonderful community I've curated here <3
if you are 18 or older, you do not have an excuse not to vote
if you are queer or trans or care about people who are queer or trans, you do not have an excuse not to vote
if you are a single mother or care about people who are single mothers, you do not have an excuse not to vote
if you are suffering because of the american healthcare system or care about people who are suffering because of the american healthcare system, you do not have an excuse not to vote
if you care about democracy, you do not have an excuse not to vote
if you care about education, you do not have an excuse not to vote
if you care about childrens rights, you do not have an excuse not to vote
if you care about women in any capacity, you do not have an excuse not to vote
reblog and dont stop reblogging. we've seen crazy shit happen this year and after a week or two, nobody bats an eye anymore. we cant let that happen with all the reports of harris gaining more support
keep reblogging until november. run the far right lunatics out of office because if we dont, then america will quite literally become a dictatorship
look up the policies for voter registration in your state. most states let you register online. it only takes about 5 minutes. you have zero excuse to not be voting. vote for harris.

6 Tips for Crossing the Road
Look both ways
The road is for cars.
Make sure to look for them before crossing. Even when you have the right of way, cars have a lot of safety features and you have none.
Use designated crosswalks
The road is for cars.
So is the crosswalk but, under brief and temporary conditions, you can use it too! Never jaywalk, never walk in the road, just hope there is a clear and functional sidewalk.
Cross at the light
The road is for cars.
There are rules and signs for them, but that can only go so far. Walk quickly and hold your breath and hope that the light doesn't turn. Make eye contact with drivers as their cars teem with potential energy, rumbling with disdain at the inconvenience of your crossing. Try to ignore the cloud of exhaust that you are in and they are above.
Leash your pets
The road is for cars.
Obviously.
To you, it may be natural to sacrifice so much space to them but to your dog, it is not. His instinct is to explore freely. You must curb it. Modern US car models have such high hoods that the average child, let alone dog, is obscured. Even on the sidewalk, hold the leash tight because the sidewalk (if you are so blessed) is next to the street and the threat still looms.
Look out for road kill
The road is for cars.
And no one was there to leash the deer.
Or the raccoon.
Or the cat.
Did you know that the most reliable sample method for wildlife in an area is looking at the roadkill?
Remember these tips
The road is for cars.
Cars are everywhere. In the city. In the suburbs. In the country. In the woods (the US Forest Service manages more roads than the entire Ministry of Transit in China.) Cars are everywhere because there are roads to bring them there, which is great if you are a car and want to get from place to place fast without worrying about the in-between.
Unfortunately, you are not a car.
You are an animal.
You are in-between.
So remember to look both ways.

To my little slice of the Tumblr community: please help spread the word of the upcoming demonstration for science happening across the country. Science in the US is under attack by the current administration and the community will not take it lying down.

grief is so crazy like what if i forget what her laugh sounds like. does she know i loved her. i miss her so much. i catch myself doing things she used to do. i wish i could call her. i miss her so much. i do a crossword puzzle. i cry while washing the dishes. does she know i loved her? my heart feels like a hummingbird. i miss her so much. what if i forget what her laugh sounds like. what if i forget.

I've been going around asking my favorite writers for fics recs so now it's your turn: Got any fic recs?
I had to stare at this message for like a solid minute before it computed in my brain that you called me one of your favorite writers that’s so amazing oh my goodness thank you so much!
Here’s my first recommendation: Go to ao3 and just go into the miraculous ladybug tag and read whatever you find there. Seriously.
This fandom produces some amazing content and I can’t keep up with it all. Sometimes I just go into the tag and pick a random work and I love it almost every time. (The times I don’t love it are the times I pick angst and want to die, but there’s love there too. Just a pained love.)
Other than that, I’m just going to recommend any fic by any of these people (or all of them, really), but especially:
things left unsaid by @tei-gen (Ao3 profile)
Do you want your heart ripped out? Do you want to cry yourself to sleep every night? Read Tei’s stuff and despair. For such a nice person, the stories are incredibly cruel. (In the best way possible.)
weaving red strings and he’s not a siren by @miraculousturtle (Ao3 profile)
Ana has immaculate detail and beautiful descriptive prose, and also is just really really nice and I appreciate her existence. I picked two of the more fluffy pieces of hers (the second is a mermaid AU and is fantastic), but she will also rip your heart out and stomp on it, if you like that kind of thing.
Pickup Lines by @mirthalia (Ao3 profile)
First, Mirth is a delight. Second, this fic is everything I’ve ever wanted. Please read it. It’s short and sweet and perfect. Mirth hasn’t published anything else yet but you can bet it’ll be great when it comes.
I know you by @ladybugandblackcat (Ao3 profile)
John hates the attention but he really deserves it. Do you like disney songs? Do you like cute fluff? You’ll like this. (And in the future, he will kill you with angst. But not in this story. I’ve been promised.)
Tikki’s New Friend by @panda013 (Ao3 profile)
I died like 5 times reading this fic, it was so cute. Amanda is a super talented individual and it’s almost impossible to pick a favorite of her works. Everything is just gorgeous.
check yes juliet by @clairelutra (Ao3 profile)
This was the first fic I read in this fandom, I believe, and I regret nothing. I don’t know clairelutra as well as the rest of the people on this list but I’ve talked to her a few times and not only is she amazing, her writing is as well.
Secret Santa by @thelastpilot (ff.net profile)
If you’ve read any fics in this fandom you probably know Pilot, but just in case you don’t, read this and everything else Pilot has written. It’s fluffy and amazing and you will thank me.
@mist-fire is usually where I reside, though it's mainly Doctor Who
