You're late.
You're very late.
You didn't wake up Touya at nine am like you usually do. You didn't bring Touya breakfast—there was a tray placed on his bedside table by someone else when he'd awaken, the lid fogged up from the steaming food being neglected inside. You didn't leave a note or pop into his room to let him know you had a meeting or something of the sorts
But the storm raging on outside Touya's window seemed to be the answer. The thunderous rain outside seemed never ending. The sky was dark and the world outside was clouded with a thick, misty haze
Touya had done a hundred push-ups, taken a shower, finished his letter to Shoto, ate his breakfast, and even made his bed in the time he spent waiting for you.
He was cursing under his breath every five seconds—because the damned sheets absolutely refused to cooperate with him. Every time he tucked them into one corner of the mattress, they came flying off the other one. He banged his head against the headboard at one point too, before flopping down face first onto his unmade bed with a groan
Why it was so hard to make a bed was beyond him. He supposes it's because he didn't have any practice making his bed, you always made it for him when he was showering. And for most of his life, he was lucky to even sleep on a mattress. He wasn't used to so many throw pillows, cushions, blankets—the simple luxury of being comfortable just wasn't something he was familiar with.
But as the dull pain in the back of his head subsided, Touya sits up in his bed with more determination than before. He had a bed to make. He had somewhere to safely sleep at night, and that was a fact no one could change. He musters up the meanest glare he can offer the bed, before yanking off the sheets in a single, fluid motion.
And then, Touya got to work.
It took him nearly an hour to make the bed perfectly. He experimented with different folding techniques and positioned the pillows about a hundred different ways until it he was satisfied with the outcome.
His shoulders were sore from all the strain once he'd finished. But he was proud of himself. The feeling fluttered around his chest—light and dizzying as he sat down on your chair instead of the bed, rolling it backwards so he could appreciate his work from afar.
But even after all of this, you're still not here.
The downpour outside represents his mood soon enough, and he sits in the room sulking after another hour passes. Maybe you're still at home—stuck and unable to leave because of the weather. Yesterday, you were telling him about the storm that would come today, but the weather outside is just brutal. He hasn't seen it rain this badly in Japan in a long time.
Maybe you were driving extra slow—the rain must be a difficult obstacle to drive through. He imagines the slick roads would make it hard for anyone to drive in, and he quickly pushes down the prospect of something bad happening to you as he takes a steadying breath
He's on edge—every little sound he hears has his heart rate spiking thinking it may be you. Finally, at three pm, there's a knock on his door.
Touya knows it's not you. Your knock is soft before you click open his door, your knock is three raps against the wooden door and your knock is a question. This knock—this knock was a single, harsh and near bang on his door. This knock wasn't a question, this knock was a demand to be let inside.
It's the last thing he hears before the door clicks open, and Touya stiffens, unsure of what to expect out of whoever it is on the other side
"Todoroki, your presence is required downstairs. This will only take a moment of your time, please." The woman speaks firmly, not giving Touya even a second to respond before she turns on her heel and walks out of the room
She didn't look Touya in the eye as she spoke, like she was afraid he'd catch something in her gaze she didn't want him to see. And her words came out quickly, her steps even faster as she walked out of the room and waited outside for Touya with a small group of doctors
Touya knows something is off, but for some reason—he foolishly doesn't think this meeting would be about you. Because there's no way these doctors would be ignorant enough to take you away from him—they could be mean, sure—but they weren't stupid. And he can quickly assume your overall well-being is fine, because your colleagues' demeanors don't appear saddened by anything. There's something else swimming in their gaze, and even though he's fishing for anything that may tell him what—he's coming up empty handed.
Touya complies quietly, allowing them to lead him down several floors before he's being pushed into a meeting room. He sweeps his gaze over the doctors and the people in suits who await him inside, entirely unimpressed. This must be some sort of a check up on him, or new details on his rehabilitation plan they wanted him to be formally made aware of. He walks over to the seat they gesture him towards, sitting down and letting out a sigh as he leans back in it
Unfortunately, you're not in this room. There's not a single sign of your bubbly smile at all as he enters—he can't even spot the color of your usual outfits, the room consisted of all its occupants being dressed in muted and dark colors.
Everyone in the room seems restless, and Touya can only shift in his seat as the murmurs around him quiet. There's something poisoning the air, but he still cannot figure out what has everyone so on edge and tense.
A man clears his throat, and Touya figures he must be important with the way everyone quickly turns to look at him as he rises out of his chair. He makes a quick motion with his hands, and there's a pair of quirk cancelling cuffs snapped over Touya's wrist faster than he could blink.
He stills, slowly turning to look at who had cuffed him to the table because they tricked him—the woman in question deactivates her invisibility quirk, offering Touya nothing more than an apologetic nod before averting her gaze
"The cuffs are on for our own safety, Touya. We brought you here because we want to apologize for our hospital's incompetence. We failed to acknowledge your privacy had been invaded, and we can do nothing but ask for forgiveness and work to be better. We don't tolerate anyone who breaks the rules and policies we have set, and Y/n is no exception."
Touya swallows the lump forming in his throat before letting out a laugh. It's a short, angry breath of air that he exhales almost like a scoff. Did this guy have even the faintest clue what he was talking about? Touya's fingers clench underneath the tight grip of the cuffs around him as his eyes remain unblinking. It felt like everyone was holding their breath, waiting for his response
"I don't know what you're trying to say."
The pale skin around his wrists has angry blotches of red and bruises beginning to bloom because of how hard he was straining his wrists against the cuffs. The man winces at Touya's expression before growing quiet, making a feeble attempt to search for how to come across as clearly as he can
Touya's eyes suddenly narrow into slits as he leans back in his chair, trying to look at the whole picture this man was doing a terrible job at painting. It sounded like they were saying you wouldn't be his doctor anymore. But that's just silly. You were a good doctor—no, you were the best doctor. No one in this hospital could ever hold a candle to you.
"Touya, I'm trying to tell you Y/n won't be your doctor anymore."
There's this incessant ringing in Touya's head as he grinds his molars together, trying to control his temper. His eyes are ablaze as he glares at the man in disbelief—features hardening into something terrifying within an instant at his words
"You can shut your mouth, because you have no fucking idea what you're even talking about. Y/n didn't—what was it you said, invade my privacy? You're a real piece of work, you know? Shove it up your ass, you stupid, old, bast—"
"Touya,"
Touya freezes. His head whips around in an instant at the sound of your voice, and the chair he's sitting on swivels with the movement as his eyes find yours. You're not in your usual clothes—in place of your usual doctor attire is a soft blue sweater, deep brown pants, and a simple pair of dark lolita shoes. You're wearing jewelry too, he notices. And your hair is down—you look out of place. Like a toy put in the wrong box.
"I am sorry for what I've done, Mr. Todoroki. My relationship with you goes against our hospital's most crucial morals. I–I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me."
Forgive me. The words echo, and the room is suddenly eerily quiet
The dogeza is considered the most formal form of apology in Japanese culture. Getting on your knees in front of someone isn't taken lightly, but your legs practically buckle beneath you as you bow your head in shame
Touya wants to reach out to you, but they've made the cuffs on him stronger and tighter than last time—and he can only thrash against the restraints helplessly as he watched your forehead kiss the ground near his feet
Touya wants to tell you to get up, he wants to tear apart the person who thought it would be a good idea to publicly humiliate you like this—to reduce you to something beneath him, of all people.
"Y/n," He croaks, the reality of losing you seemed like the beginning of his inevitable end
"Y/n," He tries again
Something cracks in his chest when you raise your head and avoid his gaze, staying completely silent.
And for once, Touya doesn't have the pleasure to feel your hands hold him when he so desperately needed your touch. Physical affection from you was so important to Touya. He needed the reassurance of your touch, the confirmation that you were there—or he'd overthink himself into a frenzy.
He watches you be tugged out of the room by your supervisor, who spoke quietly into your ear. Too quietly for him to hear. Your shoulders are slumped as you walk out of the room, and Touya cranes his neck to try and get one last look at you before the door closes—but he misses his chance when your supervisor steps in the way of his view, closing the door after leading you outside.
Learning you couldn't take care of Touya was a knife to the gut—but that knife twists and deepens a hundred times over, piercing right through all he was when you walk right by without sparing him a single glance.
You didn't look at Touya at all. Not even once.
It took nearly two hours until Touya was secured back into his room. He wrestled and resisted every officer that got in his way. He was so mad—he didn't care who he hurt. Crimson seeped into his gaze, and all he saw was blinding red—kicking and punching at anyone who even tried to put their hands on him. He'd need cameras put back into his room after today, there was no doubt of it. Your supervisor tells you they'll probably install them tomorrow to keep a closer eye on him
You walk silently, a quiet whisper falling from your lips as you adjust the face covering you wore.
"Thank you,"
Your supervisor nods curly, giving you no further response as she kept a firm hand wrapped around your bicep. That guards positioned in Touya's hall let her pass easily, and she maneuvered through the familiar twists and turns of the hospital as the two of you got closer and closer to your destination
"I can get you ten minutes maximum, Y/n. I'll stand outside when you need to come out—and when I knock, you come immediately. Understand?" She questions quietly as you nod quickly, watching her fish out Touya's keys.
"Go in quick and lock the door—do not let him out."
She shoves the key into the doorknob, before placing a hand on your back and nudging you inside within a second as you tug off your face mask
The door closes and your hand quickly reaches out to lock it behind you. But you can't even take a step forward before you're being shoved backwards with such menacing force that it knocks the wind out of you. Touya hears your breath hitch at the last second, and he moves at the speed of light as he puts his hand between your head and the door to soften the blow
He presses a chaste kiss onto your lips in an instant, murmuring your names desperately in question as he tugs you into the room. It's dark, and you stumble as he leads you to his bed. He pulls you onto it quickly as his arms wrap around you, muttering apologies into your hair and choking on his own sobs as he fists your sweater in between his fingers
You whisper his name, and everything hurts. His mind, his body, his soul—it's all set alight the moment you confirm you're real. You're here and somehow holding him.
"What happened?" He whispers, pulling back as his thumb runs over your cheekbone—catching the falling tears and smearing them into your skin
"He took photos of us together while we were at your house. Yesterday, he showed them to everyone—and—and I got fired. 'm sorry, it's my fault too." You whisper quickly as a growl gets caught in Touya's throat
"It's not your fault. It's his—I fucking hate him. So damn much." Touya whispers. His jaw trembles as he clenches it, pupils lined with a thin ring of cobalt as he watches you press a dozen kisses onto his face—holding him like he was some precious treasure you'd stumbled upon.
"But—that's not what I'm here to talk about, Touya." You say, the words tumbling from your lips in a haste as Touya presses you closer into his body, a fruitless attempt to try and fuse the two of you together. He'd melt his own body if he could, melt it and meld it against yours so he could be stuck to you forever—they wouldn't be able to take you then, would they?
"You need to promise me you'll behave. Promise me you'll listen to your doctors and show them how strong you are. Show them you're a good man—Touya, promise me you'll show them." You plead, and Touya nearly whimpers against your skin as his forehead digs into the crown of your head. He struggles to form a single word, muttering and mumbling incoherently as he holds you
"Touya—Touya, are you listening to me?" You question, growing desperate to the point where you need to try and pry his hands off of you—anything to get him to just look at you and confirm he was listening. But his grip tightens, so much so where it's beginning to grow painful. His muttering becomes clearer, and you can finally hear the words he was repeating over and over again as he rocked gently against you
Please don't leave me.
He flingers flex reflexively over yours, his eyes glittering like sapphires in the light from the sunset outside—it had finally stopped raining, and the sun somehow managed to shine through the thick clouds.
He looks up, expression open and vulnerable in a way you've never seen before. His eyes are unblinking as he stares at your face—trying to commit every detail of it to memory. Because Touya is scared—he's so fucking scared he'll never see it again.
"If you do this one last thing for me, I promise I'll be waiting outside for you. Please, Touya. I'm sorry."
He presses his eyes close, brows furrowing like he was in physical pain. You press your lips gently to his forehead, and he shudders beneath you when you kiss him so softly
"I—I don't know," He confesses, confusion and hurt imbued into every one of his features as he tries to figure out just how he can go through the upcoming months without you by his side
Touya's hesitant. He looks afraid—his eyes wide as they keep darting over your features, a subtle tremble in his voice as he speaks. You've never seen him so panicked and scattered—and it hurts knowing you had to leave him like this in a few minutes
When he was even half as upset as he was now, you'd spend hours talking to Touya. Chipping bit by bit at the shell he kept over himself, allowing your soothing words in bit by bit. Your love and presence was salve on his burning wounds
But you were leaving soon, and he doesn't have the heart to unlatch his limbs from yours. You cradle Touya to your chest, speaking softly into his hair where he can only hear fragments and fractions of what you're saying
".....Think of your family.....Only six months.....I'm so proud of you.....It'll all be ok, I promise.....I love you, Touya....."
And he nods through it all, allowing your voice to guide him through the misty maze of his mind. It felt like you knew Touya better than he knew himself, sometimes.
"Okay,"
And Touya is so sincere when he looks at you, irises shaking as he wraps his arms around you in a bone crushing embrace
"I'll be on my best fucking behavior. Don't care if they kick me around or poke me in the eye with their needles. I'll do my best. But you, Y/n if you're not there in the end—fucking promise me this isn't goodbye." He whispers, a sharp knock resounding through the air as you nod frantically
"I promise it won't be, Touya. I love you so much—please be good for me."
It's the last thing he hears before the door clicks open, before you're spinning on your heel and moving out of the room in a blur. He can't hear a thing, and the blood rushes to his head so fast it feels like he's about to pass out. Touya slumps against the headboard, heart beating out of his chest before a faint flicker of regret flashes across his face. His back straightens as a broken curse leaves his lips once he realizes his mistake
He forgot to kiss you goodbye.

dbhwks + shigs as cowboys/outlaws? hell yeah
a/n: in the gc talking abt vape and cig discourse between dabi n shigs -> fujos out a bit -> wait this is kinda hot -> sick n twisted brainrot aaaahhh
you reach over and press your index finger right in between his eyebrows.
there's nearly nothing that could melt that scowl from tomura's face- especially when everyone's behind him obnoxiously crowded around the bar with playing cards and drinks in hand, the music's a bit too loud for his liking, and he's having a hard time focusing.
"tomura, i can't take you seriously with that thing attached to your mouth like a fucking binky." you call over the music, dropping your hand back into your lap.
his eyes slowly travel up from his phone screen to meet yours. you weren't even sure if he caught anything you said over the blaring music, but you could still read the irritation in his face. his gaze flickers back and forth between the clash of clans running on his phone and you.
he blinks once. twice.
tomura drops the vape from his mouth, letting it fall into his lap, and without missing a beat, blows the intoxicatingly sweet smoke into your face, engulfing you whole with a smirk tugging at the edge of his lips.
"better than whatever the fuck you're smoking over there, right?" he nods towards the half smoked cigarette in between your fingers that you stole from touya's pack.
"better?" you roll your eyes, waving away the lingering smoke. "grow up, tomu. you're smoking birthday cake flavored nicotine. you haven't even smoked a cigarette before."
"i don't need to smoke it to know it tastes like shit." he stretches his legs over your lap, leaning back against the armrest of the couch.
you turn your hand around, facing the orange filter of the cigarette towards him. with your eyebrow slightly cocked and mouth parted into a smirk, tomura knew it was less of an invitation, but rather a dare. a challenge.
"go ahead, babe. give it a try if you're not a bitch."
tomura wets his lips with his tongue. his gaze drops down to the lipstick stained orange filter hanging from between your fingers. he wonders if he could taste your chapstick residue on it, or what your skin smells like brushed against his nose.
would you put your lips on it right after his drag? willingly taste him?
he silently cursed himself.
"pass." he scoffs, turning his head to the side, unsure if the heat crawling up his neck had taken form in a flush.
he was halfway surprised that you hadn't noticed his piercing stare every time your lips wrapped around the cigarette for a drag. he swore the desperate look in his eyes was so obvious- a silent wish that it was him between your lips instead.
you press your lips together in a line as you take another glance around the room. everyone seemed occupied. drunk. sloppy. no one's paying attention.
you lean forward, catching his face in your free hand, and forcing him to look up towards you.
"the fuck-" he starts.
"don't freak out, tomu." you interrupt. "you know what to do."
you hum to yourself as you bring your fingers up to your lips, deeply inhaling the bitter tang of burnt tobacco.
your eyes remained locked onto tomura's. he's looking at you in a sickly satisfying horror with his eyes wide, cheeks flushed, and mouth slightly gaped open from your firm grasp on his jaw.
he squirms a bit under your grasp, but tomura doesn’t look away from you- he doesn't dare to. not with you over him like this and your face only inching closer to his.
you pull yourself down over him, mere millimeters away from connecting your lips.
the smoke slowly wisp out of your mouth and into his- a slow acceptance before both of your eyes flutter shut and you empty your lungs into his.
you feel his hands climb up the side of your thighs and rest on your hips, lightly squeezing you through the fabric of your pants.
"fuck." he mutters, trails of smoke escaping his mouth.
"yummy?" you chuckle, exhaling any remnants of smoke in your lungs.
it doesn't seem like you care or noticed at all, but all tomura could think about was you straddling him on the couch and your warm thighs hugging his torso.
he felt hot all over, his lungs were burning, there's a bitter taste in the back of his throat, his head feels light, and despite it all, he wanted more.
"do you, um, wanna taste mine?"

walk in the room like a Boss
Friday morning came all the same—and the pending sadness you believed to come with the sunrise never did. Yes, it was your last day here at the Todoroki household. But knowing you and Touya would be going back to the hospital together was reassuring enough to soothe all your nerves.
The majority of breakfast was filled with secret smiles passed between you and Touya. His eyes were always wandering—always trailing back to you. And the sensation of his heated gaze alone made your head feel like it had been stuffed to the brim with cotton.
The Todorokis didn't notice anything off between you and Touya—he was always close by when you were near, but he seemed to be a little more clinger than usual.
But you were Touya's anchor. You grounded him. You made him feel safe, wanted, loved—so many emotions he wasn't used to having. It was overwhelming, all these new emotions. But he welcomed the tidal wave of feelings in with open arms. He would drown in this emotion if he could. He's not sure if there's a name for it, but Touya had become entirely dependent on you.
You didn't notice this—but every chance Touya got, he kept some part of his body touching yours. It could just be his shoulder bumping gently against yours, or his pinky grazing your knee under the table—any little touch would work to that keep that insatiable craving of his fed.
Touya ability to feel was... odd. He either felt something with every fiber of his being, or he felt nothing at all. His love was fierce, a forest fire all in its own. It was consuming, it was something that spread until it dominated everything.
Touya loved like he hated, with a burning passion.
Just hearing your name was enough to make Touya raise his head and tune into whatever conversation was going on. Actually hearing your voice had an entirely different effect on him—because suddenly, his pupils are dilating and he can't hear a single sound besides the words leaving your lips—and Touya has to physically fight the urge to press his fingers against the column of your throat just so he can feel the vibrations of your voice box as you speak
His family's goodbye was bittersweet. But even though Touya was leaving—this was not goodbye forever.
Touya was getting better day by day. His physical and mental wounds were being healed by your sparkling eyes and doting hands, and he's surrendering all he was and ever will be to you.
This past week had been heaven on earth for Touya. As he got into the backseat of the van with you, he was already looking forward to working more on writing his letters to Shoto back at the hospital. You'd help him like always—because you're the best. You're the best doctor, friend, and companion he could ask for—you're the best everything.
The drive back is peaceful. Most of the roads are empty due to how early in the day it is, but Touya doesn't mind it at all. It gives him a greater view of Japan's scenery outside. The rolling green hills and the snow coated branches of trees creates a whimsical view for him to quietly appreciate and admire.
You're asleep with your head resting on Touya's shoulder, and he has his cheek smushed against the side of your head. He keeps one hand intertwined with yours, and he uses his other hand to keep his fingertips pressed against your pulse point—the reassuring beating of your heart is a calming melody.
The drive is a little over an hour, but he's back within the familiar hospital walls soon enough.
While walking down the hallway with you, Touya was practically glued to your side. The pristine walls and floors of the hospital made him a little uneasy sometimes, but he was looking forward to returning to his little room soon enough.
You're telling Touya about how there's going to be a storm tomorrow, and how you'd just gotten a statewide notification on your phone. He's nodding his head along to your words—before his eyes catch on another patient’s door that's been left ajar.
Every patient had identical rooms. They all had the tall wooden doors and silver handles for their entrance and bathroom. Each room had a hospital bed, a side table, a TV, a small coffee table with two chairs, and a pull out bed.
But as Touya's eyes looked over to take in this patient's room, he couldn't help but notice how much more different it was from his own.
There were no paper snowflakes hanging from the windows. There were no colorful pens scattered over tables and pages of unfinished letters strewn across the room. There were no board games, no uno cards scattered all over the bed. There wasn't a single sign of life in there besides the half empty coffee mug sitting on the edge of the patient's bedside table.
There was no you, he decided.
Touya's quiet the rest of the way to his room.
Touya didn't believe in luck or fate, those invisible forces didn't feel like they applied to someone like him. They were saved for ordinary people—people like you who deserved good things.
But what else could explain your presence in his life? He certainly didn't deserve you, Touya was sure of that. He didn't deserve anything after the war. He nearly lost his family, but he didn't. He nearly lost an arm, but he didn't. He nearly lost his life, but he didn't.
But you weren't a product of fate or luck—no, meeting you was some sort of a divine intervention.
Touya, you deserve to be happy too.
He remembers when you had uttered those words to him one night when his thoughts had trailed too far again, and he had scoffed at you then. He snapped at you, telling you to go away because you clearly don't see how he doesn't deserve shit.
He winces at the unwanted memory. Those were the earlier days when he was still warming up to you, and he'll forever regret taking his misdirected hurt out on you, of all people. But even after he acted out and behaved like a total brat, you still loved him. You had seen the ugliest parts of Touya, seen him at his worst, seen him at his absolute lowest—and you were still here. Right by his side, just like you'd promised.
Maybe he does deserve you. And for once, he doesn't feel selfish for the thought. Touya can love too—he can be kind and he can be gentle. He knows his depraved sense of humor somehow manages to make you laugh, he knows the spot right under your ear is weak and ticklish for his kisses, and he knows you love him.
Touya doesn't even notice the two of you have finally reached his room until he accidentally walks right into your back. A small sound of surprise leaves your lips before you smile. He blinks himself out of his daze before stretching his lips into that handsome smile that never failed to make your heart skip a beat.
Wordlessly, Touya tugs you through the door. He never thought this hospital room would become something he'd miss—but he recognizes the space he had grown into and come to love. Yes, this was a room filled with memories he never wanted to forget. Countless nights he'd spent laughing till his stomach hurt with you, and even more nights where he spilled his heart's darkest secrets to you.
And suddenly, Touya realizes it was a room that felt more like home than the Todoroki household ever did.
Touya's hug is unusually tight. He bundles you up in his arms and cradles the back of your head to his chest, his arms wound tight around your form. You can sense he's overwhelmed by something he can't voice—so you do what you're best at.
Your hands move up and down the length of his back, rubbing big and comforting circles. His lips are slow as they meet yours, and his blunt fingertips dip gentle crescent moons into your skin as he holds your face
"I love you," He whispers, his voice hoarse and cracking with emotion. You're cooing softly as you help him into bed, whispering affirmations into his ear that have him practically collapsing in your arms. He's being babied—Touya knows he is.
But God, it felt good to finally feel like he was worth something.
You didn't leave Touya's room until you could absolutely confirm he had drifted into dreamland. Touya fell asleep smiling, and the sight was so precious that you almost didn't want to leave.
You sink your teeth into your bottom lip gently, chewing on it as you board the elevator towards the end of the hall. You hit the down button, fingers curling around the strap of your bag as you tap your foot against the ground idly.
The metals doors slide open with ease after a few moments, the gentle ding! sounding through the small space, indicating you had arrived onto the ground floor.
But the sight you're met with on the other side of the door makes you want to drag the metal doors close with your bare hands and slam the up button as hard as you can—
And suddenly, your hands feel clammy and your mouth goes dry as your supervisor tugs you along with clouded eyes—her mouth is set into a firm line, and your colleagues flutter around you nervously. All of their faces are twisted with an emotion you don't understand—and your heart positively drops to the floor when you're pulled into a meeting room with Enji Todoroki sitting at the front.
Enji's shoulders are squared, and he's hunched forward just the slightest bit as his gaze narrows in on you. Someone's telling you to sit down—but you can't breathe. Your chest physically hurts as your supervisor leads you to a chair as gently as she can manage—her usual hard gaze is broken, completely shattered and revealing the unspoken sadness beneath
And you finally realize. They know—because Enji is suddenly tossing a handful of blurry photographs onto the table. He's yelling loudly at someone, his tone rough and demanding attention. But you can't meet his gaze, and your eyes are burning like he's lit them on fire himself.
Because those are pictures of you and Touya kissing. Those are pictures of you and Touya holding hands. Those are pictures of you and Touya murmuring lowly to each other with your foreheads pressed together.
The photographs are grainy—they were obviously taken at night, and it looked like they were taken through a God damn window. It sounds like someone is yelling at Enji for spying, but you can't find the strength to try and organize the chaos around you
This wasn't supposed to happen. You promised yourself nothing like this would happen.
"She clearly isn't suitable enough to decide when I can visit my son. The nerve this woman has to say she may never allow me to see him again is ridiculous. He is my son, and she clearly isn't a good doctor if she has relations like this with him."
He grills you down with that forever present scowl, and the tears brimming in your eyes are traitorous as they roll down your cheeks silently
Enji did all of this because he wanted to see Touya sooner. He spied on you to find something to use against you. And he had just unknowingly ruined your entire career.
People who can swim in their money and power are careless when it comes to people who are nowhere near as privileged. They don't understand how delicate some situations are—and how power and money can't solve every problem. A muscle in Enji's jaw ticks when your supervisor's trembling voice speaks up—telling him that you'll be removed immediately from Touya's care.
"Fired? No, no that's not what I need. What I need is for another doctor to reevaluate Touya's condition and understand that he is ready to see me. I know I was an unexpected visitor the last time I came, but—"
Your supervisor cuts him off sharply
"You have presented us with photo evidence of Y/n breaking company policy. It doesn't matter what your goal was from all of this, because now we have no choice but to fire her. You blew up and sent these to the hospital's board and all the higher ups before speaking to us about the situation directly. They're erasing all of her files as we speak."
Something in Enji's hard gaze falters at her words
"In your email to the board, you described the situation as if Y/n took advantage of Touya's mental state. You made her look like—like a monster. And she was the best thing to happen to your son." She spat, words calculated and cruel as she glares at Enji with nothing but hatred simmering in her gaze
The cries you had been trying so desperately to hold back finally escape, and a strangled sob leaves your lips. The broken sound tears through the air like a knife. Enji blinks as if he doesn't understand a single word that leaves your supervisor's lips before his eyes harden again
"I don't want her fired—"
"But that's what's going to happen! What else could you expect?" She explodes, tears of frustration in her eyes as she grips the back of your chair with trembling fingers
You've worked under this woman for years. She was a constant in your work life–and she'd helped you become a wonderful doctor over time. But this one slip up—one that could've been controlled if Enji hadn't intervened—would mean the end of your time here.
And Enji knows you were the only doctor Touya was willing to cooperate with. The only one he would even listen to.
"Did you know we had to add another month to Touya's rehabilitation plan when Y/n took one sick day? He behaved absolutely terribly in those few hours. He went backwards in terms of progress. And now, Y/n will not be allowed to treat him ever again. Do you understand what you've done?"
And reality finally slaps Enji in the face. Hard. Because his entire demeanor deflates in a second as his face falls
He finally glances at you, and you're an absolute wreck.
You're tugging at your hair, your lips are quivering as you struggle to stay quiet and keep your emotions in check. Even though it didn't matter if you started wailing at the top of your lungs—you had already lost your job, there was no need to try and compose yourself now. But you remain ever professional, stifling your cries as much as you can as your chin wobbles.
Someone's rubbing your back in an attempt to soothe you, and Enji takes a step away from you like he's been physically struck
You had just failed Touya. You failed him.
He was sleeping blissfuly unaware a few floors up, oblivious to the fact that your carelessness was going to destroy everything you had worked so hard on building
Touya's heart is fragile. He was going to break.
Touya needs you like an artist needs their muse. Touya needs you like a dancer needs their music. Being separated from you would be like tearing a flower out of the ground—he would just wilt and waste away until there was nothing left.
CARNATIONS MASTERLIST.

Mornings with you in the Todoroki household were mornings Touya never wanted to let go of. They were simple, they were intimate, they were romantic.
Every day was like an odd dream come true. Yes, his family tip toed around him like he was something delicate—something that'll shatter if they press their fingertips too hard against him. But Touya was like a bull, barreling through anyone and everything with that trademark grin stretched taut over his features
You woke up first most mornings with Fuyumi. She was a lovely person to start the day with, being friendly and sweet right as the sun rose. Everyone was quiet in the mornings, tired smiles and sleepy chatter was what breakfast sounded like. Soft.
The Todoroki household didn't get to have mornings like this—at least, not when Enji had been there.
Touya was always the last to stroll into the kitchen. He would stretch like a cat when he walked in—long arms perched over his head as he yawned. His hair was an absolute mess in the morning, and you always need to press your mouth against the rim of your mug to hide you smile
It stuck up in every direction—soft, ivory tufts curling and moving around him like a cloud. His shirt would lift a bit as he yawned, and you'd be able to catch a glimpse of his scars and abs flexing underneath his tee as he did—you'd snap your eyes away the second they caught sight of his happy trail peaking right above the waistband of his pants with burning cheeks.
Touya would slide into the seat beside you. A small, cheeky grin on his face as he rasped a casual good morning and how'd ya sleep? in your direction. There would be a boyish type of amusement swirling in his eyes if you ever did stutter with your response. Touya's teasing you and he knows it.
The rest of the day usually consisted of Touya hanging out with Natsuo and Fuyumi—both siblings had cleared their schedules, dedicating as much time as they could to Touya. Knowing he was in good hands—you'd take a step back and let them spend some much needed time with their brother.
Shoto was usually with you and Rei
There was still an invisible barrier he didn't dare to cross—and, well, no one was going to push Touya to bring Shoto with him. Shoto seemed perfectly content with watching his siblings hang out without him. If they were happy, what more could he ask for? He wasn't alone at home—he had his mother and you, a friend in the making.
Shoto liked you. A lot. He likes the way you think, he likes the way you talk—gently, softly, respectfully, with him and his mother. He could've never guaranteed a doctor that didn't have a personal bias to his family after the war, but they had all gotten particularly lucky with you.
He also thinks your the prettiest doctor he's ever seen—maybe just the prettiest person ever. It wasn't just on the outside, this prettiness. It was you, in and out. Shoto has never met someone so genuine. Someone so open and wiling—maybe you were naive for giving one of Japan's biggest criminals a chance—but Shoto will forever be grateful you offered Touya a hand when he needed it most.
"Why didn't you chose to become a teacher?"
Your eyes flick up from the letter you were helping Shoto construct for Touya, a little startled by his quick question before you smile. You were doing a wonderful job teaching Shoto how to construct this paticular letter for Touya—your patience was endless as the poor teen struggled to find the right words he wanted to present his nii-san with. And while you were helping him—you mention how you had a dream of teaching at one point.
"I have the education to become one, but—you know how life is, don't you Shoto? Unexpected things happen all the time. I think it was a split second decision, but I'm forever grateful I chose to become a psychiatrist." You grin, gently nudging his shoulder as he offers you a half smile
"So you teach Touya too?" He questions after a moment, and you nod with a hum
"That's....that's very nice of you."
Shoto wasn't very good at keeping a conversation flowing, but he was trying. You lead the talk from there—and he seems relieved you understood that he wanted to keep talking even though he had nothing more to say as he leans back in his chair, listening to you speak with a small smile on his face as he nods along.
It was Thursday today, your last full day at the Todoroki household. You and Touya would leave tomorrow afternoon, and the thought is saddening. Was it selfish to want to stay longer? It was hard getting all the supervisors and doctors on board with allowing Touya to leave the facility with no guards anyway—so instead of wishing for more, you focus on the present. Cherish it.
Eventually, everyone is back home within a few hours. Touya's smile beams as bright as a beacon after a day out with Natsuo and Fuyumi. Apparently, they had taken a drive and visited at all of Touya's favorite places in town.
Shoto had spent a few minutes asking Touya how his day was—what he ate, if he'd seen anything that had changed over the years—all sorts of little things. Touya was a bit short and clipped with his answers at first, but he warmed up to Shoto soon enough. How could he not when the poor kid was practically leaning off of his chair, hanging onto every word that left Touya's lips as he listened with a blank but frighteningly intense stare?
Of course Touya felt a little guilty asking Fuyumi and Natsuo to come with him and not Shoto—but Touya felt like any connection with Shoto would have to be formed one on one. He couldn't bring him along because that just wouldn't work. Touya needed to understand Shoto on his own.
The letters were working—Touya and Shoto had passed a few between each other over the last couple of days, and when Shoto presented Touya with another one right when he'd gotten home today—Touya had read it in the doorway with a small smile before offering Shoto an awkward fist bump
....Progress
You don't think you've seen Touya smile so much. He cries a lot too, but every tear shed is with a smile. He's so happy, you don't think he'll ever want to leave.
But even as the day to leave comes closer and closer, he doesn't seem upset. You and I will be together, was what he'd said when you asked him if he was sad to go back
I'll be happy as long as you're with me.
He had mumbled those last few words to you before his eyes fluttered close. He had a long today—fishing with his siblings, wrestling with Natsuo (and knocking over a very expensive vase in the process), all while ending the day talking for hours with you in the living room, reflecting over his trip and how he felt.
You're kneeling on the ground, back pressed against the couch Touya is laying on as your eyes trace over the dips and slopes of his neck. If you hold your breath quietly enough, you can hear the gentle thump of Touya's heart beating.
You didn't even hear Rei enter the room at first. Her feet were clad in socks as she padded in, and you were in a trance—mesmerized by the way Touya's soft lips moved in his sleep. He looked angelic even in his sleep—milky skin and pale hair. He was ethereal, really.
Rei sits beside Touya on the couch he was laying on, her hand moving towards his hair to card through the strands—she regards you with a soft smile, and you send her a shyer one in return
"Hi," You whisper quietly, cheek smushed against the cushion of the couch from where you sat on the ground as you brought your gaze back towards Touya. Rei bows her head quietly in greeting
The silence is filled by the crackling flames in the fireplace a few meters over from you all. It casts a blanket of gleaming gold over Touya's face. If you thought he couldn't look any more like an angel, you were mistaken. Because the glow of the flames highlights and sharpens his features, outlining him and licking his skin with its fierce shine
Sure, Touya had enough criminal charges against him to get a death sentence—but gosh, can't everyone else see the adorable dimples in his cheeks when he smiles?
You're trying to deny the feelings creeping up your chest—clawing at your ribs and simply begging to be released to find solace in his arms. You're smitten, head over heels, absolutely sick with nothing but a relentless, burning love for Touya.
"Thank you for what you've done for us, Y/n. You're a special part of our family now. I...can't picture Touya in my mind without you being right beside him."
You're snapped out of your daze when Rei finally speaks up—and the weight of her words sink into your brain slowly as you blink back tears. Her confession was quiet, but the truth in her voice was so raw. It took your breath away—and you sit in stunned silence before a small whimper escapes your throat. She used the hand that wasn't massaging Touya's scalp to swipe at the tears that rolled down your cheeks
"Thank you," You choke out, your voice heavy with emotion and wet with laughter as you lean into her palm. For a woman with an ice quirk, she was, surprisingly but pleasantly, warm.
Touya's chin trembles, just barely after you speak. But you catch the movement anyway—watching his lips settle into a wobbly line. Rei was too busy staring at you with round eyes to notice her son had been pretending to sleep the entire time she was playing with his hair
Touya wasn't trying to eavesdrop—he just thought his mother might shy away from playing with his hair if she knew he was awake.
Rei used to sneak into Touya's room when he was a child and do the same thing she'd been doing just now—she used to murmur apologies she wasn't brave enough to voice in the day while she scrubbed the salty remnants of tears that had dried on Touya's face. Touya went to bed crying more times that not, but Rei always snuck into his room late at night to try and ease the tension from his muscles.
Like a good mother would, Rei would massage the crease between his brows from furrowing too much, run her hands up and down his back—anything to try and help him. Little did she now her hands would lull that little boy to sleep every night.
Sometimes, Touya would get into fights with his mother on purpose just so she could come and hold him later at night. She'd often start speaking quietly to him thinking he was asleep, little I'm sorry Touya's and I love you, Touya's slipping past her lips.
Touya would always pretend to be asleep. But this time, he had accidentally intruded on a moment that wasn't meant for his ears.
Rei leaves after a few minutes, bidding you goodnight quietly as she heads upstairs and into her own room. You don't turn back to look at Touya until you hear the faint sound of her door clicking close
He's grabbing your palm, wrapping his fingers around your slender ones—intertwining his hand with yours
" 'm sorry." He mumbles quietly, a small smile on his face as he watched your hand practically drown in the grip of his larger one. He spread out his fingers, pressing your palm against his and admiring the way your fingers fit against his. It was like his hands were made to hold yours.
Out of all the destruction and heartbreak they've brung—they could bring love too. And comfort, and support—they could bring good.
He sits up fairly quickly, the blankets shifting beneath him as he sits up straight on the couch. You're still kneeling on the ground as he cradles your hand—playing with it. You wiggle your way between his legs, and he spreads his knees to let you into the gap between his legs. Your head falls onto the space between his thigh and knee, and he uses his free hand to curl a stray strand of hair behind your ear.
You both stare as he plays you like a puppeteer would—moving your hands with his. He spreads your fingers, curls them, and runs the pads of his fingertips over your knuckles more times than you can count. He spends time tracing any birthmarks he comes across too, circling around them with his thumb and committing them to memory
"Touya."
He can't look up. Touya presses his eyes closed, he can hear the unspoken question hanging in the air. The uncertainty, the doubt, the pending guilt. He hears it all—a thousand words spoken but not a sound passed between the two of you.
"I love you,"
Your hand goes still in his
"I love you Y/n. I love you so damn much. Like—it's bad. My whole fucking world revolves around you. You saved me, I thought I was done for after the war. I... I was gonna end it. End it all. I wish I could've met you sooner, and I wish I wasn't an absolute mess when we did meet, but—but Y/n, we work. We work, right? You're perfect. You're—fuck, everything I'll ever need and everything I'll ever want—you mean it all to me. No one can replace you. Do you understand what I'm saying? I fucking love you."
You thought you could hear his heartbeat before—but now, you can hear it slamming against his ribcage. He splays your palm over his chest, and it's like his heart is in your palm—if you squeeze your eyes shut hard enough, than yes—you could feel the blood oozing over your fingertips and down your wrists as his heart beats underneath your death grip. Because Touya just ripped his heart out of his chest and gave it all to you.
He leans down to cradle your face in his palms, which in turn means you have to tilt your head up to meet his lips. It's salty. The tears streaming down your face connect at your lips, but Touya licks them away
His kiss isn't perfect—this is his first kiss, after all. But Touya has never put more of his soul into anything else. It's a little desperate and there are moments when you laugh into his mouth with how clumsy he is as he pulls you onto his lap—but Touya's heart is bleeding everywhere and you're collecting the blood like a drain, taking all he had to offer and accepting ever fault and flaw
I love you, he mumbles against your lips. I love you I love you I love you—and suddenly, it's not his voice speaking the words anymore
It's yours.
His eyes are wide, like his ears have betrayed him. Like you kissing him back didn't already confirm how you felt about him. He swoops back in again, smiling against your lips as he presses soft kisses all over your face
You close your eyes. He kisses you everywhere. Your chin, your cheeks, your nose, your eyelids, your forehead—honoring the face he had come to love so much. Honoring the features that he would never forget—forever forged into his soul.
His advancements end with you pinned against the couch—and Touya feels dizzy as his forehead knocks against yours. He settles his weight around you carefully, near panting as he cradles you to his chest
He needs a second to collect his breath.
Your lips are tinged red from all the times he'd gently sunk those sharp teeth into the soft flesh of your lips, trying to taste you and feel you and God—you felt better than any daydream his mind could ever conjure.
"We're gonna get in trouble." You whisper, pawing at his chest. You feel high—it didn't happen, you didn't kiss him, it's not—
He kisses you again. It's soft, it's slow, it's sensual—and he pulls away after a brief moment
"Just...just us right now." He mumbles, kissing you again. Again and again and again. It takes him another twenty minutes to lead you to his room
Your soft giggles were the only sound until the door clicked close. He still held you up in his arms, your ankles locked together behind his back with your legs wrapped around his strong waist. He drops you onto the soft heap of blankets and pillows of his childhood bed before crawling in after you
For you, the next few hours the two of you spend huddled under his blanket in each other's arms were the absolute best.
Touya outlines all of your face's features once again, but this time—he tells you why he loves every single one so dearly. He tells you how when he was sixteen, he dreamed of becoming a father one day. He tells you how every night since he met you, he only dreams of one thing over and over again—you you you you, it's all you.
You tell Touya how you've talked to your cats about him—this gets a loud laugh rumbling from deep within his chest, one where his eyes twinkle in the moonlight as he smiles against your skin—you tell him how you've never been in love before, and how you like the way his bangs fall in front of his eyes when his whole body shakes with laughter
You tell each other all the things you wouldn't have dared to voice back at the hospital—maybe it was the new domestic setting the two of you were thrown in that egged you on. But it didn't matter. Not right now, at least. Because Touya was finally kissing you, finally opening and revealing the last bits of himself to you—stripping his heart and mind bare and succumbing to your sweet, gentle mercy.
Touya loved you, and you loved him. That was all that would ever matter at the end of the day.
