Between the mountains & the mesa, it’s not uncommon to see a male vorpalus walk through the land with confidence & grace with every step.
Ringtail is his name.
His territory wasn’t always his however. Originally an aging older male reigned there till Ringtail challenged the old timer. The older male was larger & had the weight advantage but Ringtail was faster, had more stamina, & outmaneuvered many of the older male’s attacks. The older male couldn’t hold out the fight for long, reluctantly he surrendered the territory & any females living nearby.
While he doesn’t help raise any of the kids he has with the females, he does have a favorite female living close by in the mesa.
Clovilowpers are an extremely rare sight to behold. With their ability to sprout new plant life wherever they go, any ecosystem benefits with their presence. In myths & tales it’s said that finding even one of them binds your fate to good luck for a lifetime.
So how much luck do you think is gained for sighting a glimmer clovilowper?
all the pixel art i’ve made for creatures of sonaria!
It didn’t even cross my mind that Swamp Hill’s new overhauled look would extend to the Ardor Warden Shrine too.
This chamei here left her herd (also known as aggregation) to birth her first ever child in solitude. Once the child is strong enough to keep up with her mother, both will make the dangerous trek to reunite with the others.
My main blog is dedicated to Sky: Children of the Light here @wanderingskychild
I’ve been playing COS for a while & just wanted a place to upload screenshots of some of my favorite creatures & some ocs. Not to mention descriptions on the ways they survive, their relations with others & some headcanons for some species. Observed through the perspective of wildlife photographers.
This blog was largely inspired by Somalian Roger & his Documentary videos on YouTube. So check them out too. Enjoy! 😊👍
Little creatures of sonaria art go brr
Every cos player has undoubtedly played sochuri. It’s the starter creature most new players are gonna choose & let’s be real immediately discard when they get a bigger creature. It’s inspired by bats with its big ears & description saying it can cling to walls so these headcanons came to me easier than the xeleviprex ones.
- They live in crowded colonies of numerous individuals where they constantly bicker & fight for nesting space.
- The majority of sochuri colonies nest in lava-heated caves & caverns on Volcano Island, however colonies do survive just as well in other habitats. 🌋
- Sochuri can’t survive in year-round cold environments. Even their internal fire-breathing mechanisms can’t warm them up enough to stay in the long run. 🥶
- They mainly forage at night, relying on excellent night vision & highly-tuned hearing to find food. 🌙
- They prey primarily on small, abundant insect creatures. Their favorites being wuggawyrm, flickaflie, beezu & astrothi. 🦋
- Some sochuri are able to form hunting gangs. Together they can even bring down large prey a single sochuri would normally never attack solo. These gangs however are fairly unorganized & uncooperative. Getting into fights in the middle of a hunt & even if they make a successful kill, they’ll squabble for every last chunk of meat. 🍖
- The spikes on the males’ nose, cheeks, & chest are used solely to impressive females. Males with the longest, most perfect spikes are given the chance to breed with any number of available females. They won’t help in raising the young.
- While most males stay in the same colony their whole lives, females regularly move to new colonies. A behavior thats meant to prevents inbreeding.
- Because of their abundant numbers, sochuri are a reliable food source for many predators. Mainly preyed upon by other fliers, like aolenus. 🦇🦅
- Sochuri simply fly away when faced against a predator alone, in a group however they become brazen. The whole group will mob their attacker with breaths of fire sprayed every which way while at the same time screaming loudly to disorient the threat until they leave or the sochuri loose their nerve & flee. 🔥
Let me know what y’all think of these headcanons.
Recently departed from his mother’s care, this cautious exterreri wanders Sonaria with one goal in mind. To find a new home of his own.
Meet Gnasher.
During the night Gnasher travels throughout the biomes in search of an unoccupied territory to call home, using his dark colors to stay hidden. At daybreak he retreats back into caves he’d happens to find while searching. Despite his caution he’s not incompetent, he hunts for himself well & has a liking to the taste of sochuri & xeleviprex.
Gnasher’s recent travels has landed him here in swamp hill. There’s caves to sleep in & trees to climb, he might just make this his new home.
