â¨stockingsâ¨
Okay, so this made me want to write about stockings, but then I got inspired by that one scene from Brooklyn (2015) and my own grandparents and here we are.Â
A 1930s Everlark đš:
1938
The only reason Katniss agreed to the Friday night dance was because Prim had promised to do all her Saturday chores if sheâd come. âMama wonât let me go unless you come,â her sister had pleaded, crawling across their shared bed, hands folded together. âPlease please please, Katniss?â
âI hate those dances,â she argued, shoving her sister off her notes. âPlus I have an exam next week that I need to study for. Why canât Mama take you?â
Prim looked aghast at the suggestion. âI canât take my matka to the dance! Iâd be the laughing stock at school! Katniss, please? Iâll do all your Saturday chores and take care of Babcia all night instead. Please?â
She likely would have gone without the promised bribe, but if Prim was offering to batter out dirty rugs and polish their motherâs silver and deal with their strict grandmother for a whole Saturday evening, then Katniss wasnât going to bypass it. So here she sat in her churchâs basement, huddled in the far corner where the girls with no dance partners sat, counting down the minutes until 9 oâclock.
The room was crowded with kids from the neighborhood, excited to congregate together without total parental supervision watching over them, and she saw Prim near the band with some fellow she recognized from church, her head thrown back in laughter. The guyâs face was a bit too close to her sisterâs neck, but Prim would never forgive her if she stepped in and played matka. Katniss crossed her arms and sighed, slinking down in her seat.
Sixty-seven minutes to go.
âNot much for dances?â a boy next to her asked, causing her to jump. He hadnât been there a moment ago.
She frowned. âAm I that obvious?â
âMost girls over here are scoping the dance floor for fellas. You, on the other hand,â he said, eyeing the clock, âkeep checking the time. Got a hot date or something?â
Her cheeks flushed at his forwardness. âGee, you talk to all the girls youâve just met like that?â
âNo,â he smiled, leaning closer to her, âbut I think itâs important to make sure Iâm not stepping where I shouldnât be stepping. So is there a lucky fella? Or are you free to dance with me?â
Katniss gave him a hard look, amazed at just how forward this guy was. She hadnât been asked to dance often, but sheâd seen the bashful way boys usually asked Prim and Leevy. They were never as forward! She sniffed the air. âWhy would I tell you such a thing? I donât even know your name.â
âPeeta Mellark,â he said, holding his hand for her to take. Katniss lightly grabbed his fingers, gave a halfhearted shake in greeting, and put her hand back in her lap. âWhatâs yours?â
âKatniss Everdeen.â
âEverdeen?â he frowned. âThat donât sound Polish. Are you crashing this dance, too?â She tried her best not to notice how his blue eyes seemed to twinkle in the churchâs poor lightning when he smiled at that.
âThatâs because it isnât. My motherâs Polish, but my father wasnât.â She checked the clock and held back another tired sigh. Only five minutes had passed.
âTime would go faster if you danced,â Peeta suggested teasingly, leaning back in his seat. âIâd be happy to fill that time.â
Her fingers drummed on her knees, considering his offer. She still had an hour left of this thing and he wasnât wrong about time moving faster if she was doing something.
âOkay,â Katniss agreed, holding her hand out. âOne dance and you leave me alone for the rest of the night.â
He hurried to stand and grabbed her offered hand, bowing dramatically at the honor. She rolled her eyes and told him to move it along, before she changed her mind.
They walked to the dance floor just as the band was starting a new song. It was a swing tune, one the whole room cheered to as couples started to sway to the rhythm. It took Katniss a moment to pick up the new steps, unfamiliar with this particular dance, but with Peetaâs laughing encouragement, she was soon dancing and laughing along with him. He shook his hands to the side as the gentlemen in the talkies did and spun her around until her head spun. He even convinced her to take center floor with him as they kicked and stepped to the beat, the couples around them cheering around them.
Before Katniss knew it, they had danced four more times together. He didnât ask if she wanted to stop after that first one and she didnât bother to deny him as he kept pulling her back for more. Her hair was a bit disheveled now, her curls coming loose due to the roomâs humidity and her own movements, and her feet hurt in her heels, but itâd been awhile since sheâd had this much fun. Prim was never going to let her live this down.
Finally, the priest announced the band would be playing one last song, even though it was past 9 now, because theyâd all been such a great group tonight. It surprised her, how fast time really did go by when she wasnât sitting in the corner, pleading with the clock to move faster.
The band started one last time, crooning a slow ballad. Couples paired up and she saw her sister on the other side of the room with the same guy as earlier. Were they serious, she wondered, Prim and this guy? Peetaâs hand on her lower back pulled her back to them, their bodies pressed together now. She rested one hand on his shoulder, realizing just how tall he was as she looked up at him, his smile causing something in her to flutter, and she smiled back. Peeta smelled nice, she noticed, pressed against him so close now. Like fresh baked bread and a seasoning she couldnât place. Dill maybe? His body felt warm against hers, but she welcomed it, despite how hot she was after all the dancing.Their hands laced together as the music swept through the room, couples spinning slowly to the tune.
âThis is nice,â he said near her ear. âGlad you said yes, Katniss Everdeen.â
âIt is,â she agreed, deciding it wouldnât be a bad thing to rest her head on his chest. The other girls were doing it and well, Prim always said these dances were for meeting fellas.
âHey, Peeta?â she asked, looking up at him.
âHey, Katniss?â he asked in return, that smile of his still there, looking down at her.
âWhatâd you mean when you asked if I was crashing this dance?â Itâd been bothering her since about their second dance. âAre you crashing?â
He laughed and spun them around. âDoes Mellark sound Polish to you?â
âWell, no,â she frowned, not even thinking of that when he introduced himself. âI guess I just figured you were like me.â She couldnât be sure, but it felt like he pulled her closer. Not that she was complaining about that.
âBoth parents are German,â he said, his cheek pressed on top of her head. âAs hard German as you can make them, really strict, you know?â
âSo what were you doing at a Polish dance, then? Donât the Germans have their own dances?â
âOh yeahâ Peeta said, laughing, âWe do, but I like coming to your dances. Theyâre more fun and well, I really like Polish girls.â
Katniss tucked her face into his shirt to hide her blush. âGerman boys arenât so bad, either.â If it was at all possible, his smile grew.
âIâll take you to one, if youâd like,â he promised. âYou can see for yourself how much more fun your dances are.â
âAre you asking me out on a date, Peeta?â
âWould you say yes if I was?â
Katniss bit her bottom lip. âI would, yes.â
He spun them around one last time before the song ended, resting his forehead on hers. The music had stopped, the couples around them breaking apart, but Katniss and Peeta stood there, still holding on to each other. âWhen can I take you out?â he asked. âPlease say soon?â
Glancing over at Prim, who had clearly noticed where she was and giving thumbs up in approval, Katniss smiled. âYou free tomorrow night?â

1. When I was a kid, my parents had to leave me in their friends' houses for days, because at that time, they had to work in different areas and I basically lived more than 20 houses until I turned in to 12. I actually kinda like it, cos it really helped me to have lot of experiences with people I 'd never known.
2. I'm currently studying at a girls' college, and it is a beautiful place with a tiny wood inside of it. Me and my friends used to study for our exams under huge trees and wonderful playing areas with yellow flowers shattered everywhere on the grasses...
3. In weekends, I visit a historical site which was built by Dutches in our town, which is situated near the sea. I have always loved the sea beaches, and it actually heals my mind when I do nothing but sit on a ruin or the fort, watching the way waves splatter on rocks.

Iâve been thinking about this line a lot. And Iâm not sure itâs given all the credit it deserves. It is well overshadowed by Thorâs immediate response (âsurrenderâs not in mineâ), and by the line that steals this whole scene: âTrust my rage.âÂ
But thereâs something about this line that gets me, and I think itâs because it is probably the truest thing Loki has ever said about himself.Â
Loki, as we well know, is a master of avoiding his own problems, or else manipulating them to look like everyone elseâs. He has told himself so many lies that he has begun to believe them: that he is hated, that he is alone, that he will never be anything but Loki. Frigga even points this out: âAlways so perceptive, about everyone but yourselfâ. Loki can read everyone else, but when it comes to reading himself? Oh, Hel no. Those are dangerous waters, and he would rather not drown there.Â
And thatâs why this line is so surprising and just so good. The fact that Loki is never satisfied is, when you think about it, pretty much the root of all his problems (at least ones that he can control). As a child and young adult, he appears to have mastered magic, but that was never enough, because it wasnât like Thor, it wasnât what Asgard wanted, it wasnât what Odin wanted (or so he thought). He wants to be Thorâs equal, little realising that in many ways he is, but that, too, is not enough. He tries to be Thor, and is never satisfied. He tries to be Loki, and is never satisfied. He goes out of his way to prove himself to his family, and still he craves more. And so it escalates. A throne. A planet. He keeps reaching and reaching, oblivious to the fact that whilst he is grasping for the mountainâs peak, the rocks beneath him are slipping away.Â
And now we come to Ragnarok, and Loki has what he claims he has always wanted: the throne. A chance to rule. And I donât think for a moment it is what he expects. Because once he has something, it no longer fulfills him; and he is stuck without a family, bearing the weight of the kingship, and Iâm nintey-nine percent sure all he can do is sit there thinking âWell. Now what?â
And this is why happiness is so foreign to Loki, and always will be, and why he has doomed himself: for contentment, he must learn to settle, and because he is Loki, he will never settle. And so the cycle continues, and he proves time and time again that Lokiâs worst enemy will always be Loki.Â
Heâs beauty, heâs grace, falling from Doctor Strangeâs portal straight on his face.

Ragnarok!
YESSS!
We all know Loki is deeply a good person and heâs just missunderstood
I feel like heâd fall for a caring person
Someone who doesnât appear to be soft as they come out cold at first
But deep down theyâre very kind and protective over their loved ones
When falling for you heâd show quite some opposite lovey signs instead of the typical ones
As being quite sarcastic towards you
Or acting as if he was ignoring you
But not because he means to be mean, itâs just your presence that makes him anxious
And his best defense against vulnerability has always been his wit
But, even if sometimes they got to you, you hid it pretty well and kept being respectful towards him
When approching you, his mood would definitely change
Heâd listen intensely at what you had to say, admired you when doing the simplest things and even asking for your opinion above the othersâ
Heâd love to have deep conversations about his favourite books with you and discussing its aspects, without feeling rejected for something he loved doing
Heâd start to become really protective over time
Like if he saw another member looking at you longer than usual
Or someone whose hand lingers on your waist for too many seconds
So heâll use some of his powers to avoid them getting too close to you
And heâll deny it when his brother asks him if he likes you
âBrother, are you and lady Y/N good friends?â âYeah you could say that,âŚwhy?â âI am just happy to see you connecting with someone in such positive waysâ âOh, great then-â âAre you going to tell her that you love her?â âWhatâ
Also heâd be such a sHOW OFF infront of you
At any chance he gets, heâll try to impress you with his tricks
And will get angry if anyone tries to take you away from him
Youâre probably one the only persons that sees the good in him and who gave him the love he doesnât think he deserves
Heâs not letting go of you that easily (most likely never will)
Once he confesses, heâll probably donât know how to act in a relationship
But wonât hesitate to show his dominance in front of others by kissing you
Youâll be his number one priority, so feel lucky cause he wonât be able to betray you even if his life depends on it
Unless itâs your life thatâs in danger
Heâd do anything to keep you safe
When in fights, youâll always be on his mind cause thinking of you gives him strengh
If youâre also in the fight, heâll make sure youâre aroud him and not let you out of his sight
He wouldnât really care about the fight to be honest, heâd be more like a guardian keeping enemies away from you
Which makes me think that youâre probably the only one whoâs seen him have a break down
Not that it happens often, but on those rare occasions youâd be his get away, the one whoâd help him forget about all his worries
Like telling you about his mother and how much he truly missed her
Or like,when Asgard got destroyed
You were the first one he visited
You found him in your room, sitting on the edge of your bed going through one of the books he had gifted you
When he heard you calling his name, he lifted his teary eyes and rapidly crawled into your embrace
He told you about everything that had happened, and you reassured him it wasnât his fault and stayed awake until you were sure that he had fallen asleep
And Loki loves sleeping next to you
He wasnât too keen on physical affection at first, but once he discovered how touch-starved he was he began craving to feel you close at all times
Which means that you get to sleep with your head on his chest and his arm around you
Iâm getting too carried away with this
I just want a Loki man
Ahh, my boys with their fatherâ¤â¤â¤
Iâm not crying youâre crying
I wish I could climb that one and scream to the world like- AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hole in the Ground, Oregon. Commonly mistaken for a huge impact crater, the eponymous hole in the ground formed as the result of the interaction between magma and shallow groundwater about 13,000 years ago. This event is called a phreatomagmatic eruption, and the resulting crater can be a maar, tuff ring, or tuff cone; depending on the composition and structure. This one is a tuff ring, and large blocks of lava and stuff were thrown hundreds of meters from the holeâs rim.
The crater is one mile across, and about 100 meters deep, making the climb down and back up quite the trek!
My parents rather have a busy life, and only things they cares about me are my education and health. I asked about this from my mom once, and her answer was, "I simply trust you more than you know!"
But still, I wish she could spend more time with me so I could really tell her that I'm not the same stubborn and witty girl who is apparently trying to soak up their attention. But, the reality is always too rude.
Revolutionary parenting hack:
If your child is in the middle of some activity and clearly enjoying it (and wasn't supposed to be doing something else instead), DO NOT interrupt them and have them do chores that will "only take 5 minutes or so!"
You haven't asked them to do anything before they got out the Legos, started reading a chapter of their book or painting the complicated picture, or began playing their video game.
As a result of being repeatedly interrupted, they will learn that their presence in public space of the household=availability to do chores, so they will make themselves scarce so you can't find them and order them around. They will also become suspicious of your efforts to engage with them as they play, as they've learned that these pleasantries are a prelude to "Take out the trash", or "move your boots and vacuum the entryway, there's dirt everywhere ".
"But I need my children to help me around the house!", I hear you cry. I understand. Children should not be treated like royalty and left to their own devices 24/7.
An alternative is to give the kids a clearly delineated chore chart and stick to it, resisting the urge to add anything to it. There are some chores that are easier and quicker with two people, though. A (in my opinion) even better option is to divide the child's day into "on-duty" and "off-duty " time. When they're on-duty, you can interrupt them as before, but you have *consulted with your child beforehand * and they understand that during this time they can relax, but they must be ready to jump in and lend a hand.
That way they won't start trying to level up in their video game or break out the clay and make stuff. When they are off-duty, you leave them alone and their only responsibilities are to clean up whatever mess they make at the end of this time.
Also, if they are tearing around the house or whining about being bored, don't make them do chores so they will "have something to do"; this could make the child conflate extra chores with punishment for whining and make them reluctant to help out when you randomly tell them to at other times because they might think they're being punished but they have NO IDEA WHAT THEY DID. And IMO children should see chores as things everyone has to do no matter what, not punishments.
I may seem unqualified to offer parenting advice as I have no kids, but I was talking with my dad today and he said: "I wish you didn't hide from us in your room so much, but every time your mom walked by she'd give you a chore to do, so I can't blame you for that." A kid who hides in their room to play has an entirely different relationship to the family than the child who sprawls on the livingroom floor and excitedly describes the city they are building out of Legos.
And today, in times of Covid I play a complicated game of hide-and-seek with my mother as I try to do my online coding homework and apply for jobs. I am now attempting to turn my bedroom into my own tiny office because if I work in our home office, she'll find me and go "I can't attach this file to my email," and so on.
Children *have* to obey their parents when they are young. But true respect and honoring collective responsibilities is stronger than forced obedience. If you demonstrate to your children that you respect them and their time, they will reciprocate.
