"Maybe a Hannibal rewatch will fix me."

Did the last five rewatches fix me? No. Will I still rewatch it? Yes.

I did the murder wives ! Been a while I wanted to draw them as women.

"Are you sure you can't stay?"

"I don't think I would be good company."

"I disagree."

We are not appreciating enough the simplicity and genuineness of this dialogue. Who has made Will feel like he is not good company? His reason for not staying is not "I'm busy" or "I'm not into this kind of things", he says he is not good company. His response is very empathetic if you think about it because he is thinking about how he is perceived by Hannibal and the others.

We couldn't see the whole conversation unfortunately but Hannibal's question implies that he is asking Will to stay for a second time. He had probably asked him earlier, Will had refused without giving a reason but later he brings the bottle of wine to make up for not staying and Hannibal insists that he should stay. And for someone who doesn't have friends and is not invited to stuff, I think it meant the world to Will that Hannibal really meant it. Hannibal really wanted him there. And Hannibal disagrees with him but not out of politeness, he is super genuine. To him, Will is good company. Anyway I will go cry now.

he's so happy . he's so happy to be sharing his favorite thing with his favorite person and feeling really truly seen and accepted by someone probably for the first time ever and he can't help smiling And the way he tries to push the smile down when he realizes he's doing it LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!! GO AWAY!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I like the collective head cannon that Will loves fast food but I also 100% believe Will knows Hannibal's cooking so well that if he was to change even one tiny thing he would notice.

Just because you like garbage doesn't mean you can't appreciate fine foods. I think every time Hannibal brought Will food he was genuinely happy with the dish but also would of happily ate Burger King. He's not ungrateful, he's just not picky.

But after the Fall one time Will aggravates Hannibal somehow. It was small, nothing worth even fighting about but Hannibal is still stewing on it a bit while cooking dinner and decided to just, cook it a bit faster or take a shortcut because he's a little frustrated.

The two sit down and begin to eat:

Will: "You didn't blanch the tomatoes like you usually do..."

Hannibal: *Stops mid bite, and merely raises an eyebrow but internally has to set down the utensil before he breaks down.* "You noticed..."

Will: "I always do." *Casually takes another bite while still looking at him.*

saw this post and now i can't stop thinking about how will never talks casually around hannibal despite us knowing he is fully capable of doing so.

that scene with molly on the phone demonstrates this so well- will is fully capable of chatting and joking around and not talking through indirect gestures nearing the realm of poetry, but he never does that with hannibal.

with hannibal he speaks like a poet. not to say he's rambunctious around everyone else, of course he's a quiet and blunt person. but as their connection continues on, will seems to pick up hannibal's artsy, aesthetic, scholarly way of speaking. mirroring the one person who makes him feel safe.

it seems like anything other than poetry doesn't feel adequate for them, the way they make each other feel isn't done justice by anything casual. it'd be like calling the sistine chapel "cool". when they speak to each other, all the words that leave their mouths are always completely intentional. they treat conversation like a flirty game of chess.

i love hannibal because its a love story told through the lens of violence and murder and pain and torture, but its all about something as soft and sweet as two people not knowing how to speak to each other.

i think that's a large part of why their love feels so warm despite everything. it's earnest, it's juvenile, and it's beauty is most often manifested through carefully thought out words, and the occasional indirect confession of how much they matter to the other. they don't need touch, they just want to make poetry out of one another ˊᵕˋ

So, about the "You made me chicken soup" scene. Most people find it funny and think Hannibal gets slightly offended, but the first time I watched it, I thought it was actually sweet.

Will wakes up to the smell of food, sees what Hannibal has brought and is genuinely surprised. Chicken soup is what you prepare to your loved ones when they're sick (like Reba does for Francis in season 3). He's not used to having people taking care of him. That's why he tells Hannibal "You made me chicken soup", and Hannibal is somehow taken aback by his reaction, and pauses before answering "Yes", in a total different tone. Like he understands the meaning his gesture has for Will. I don't think he's annoyed by the fact that Will is reducing his fancy dish to a simple chicken soup. That "Yes" is an aknowledging of his affection for Will to Will.

And he turns away, as if he'd been caught off-guard too.

Am I the only one who finds this moment terribly intimate? I've never seen anyone focus on it. Just imagine if you remove the entire plot of Hannibal and add a certain pov: a policeman falls in love with a dangerous maniac criminal. Their eyes just speak for themselves.
