Febuwhump Day 28: Recovery

Whenever he stirred, even for a few moments, the first thing Mikey registered was someone’s hand around his. Sometimes the grip was so fiercely tight, the IV in his dorsum ached; if the shadow at his bedside noticed he was awake, they squeezed even tighter.

A reminder that he still had one good hand to hold.

Sometimes their grasp would go slack, if the shadow was dozing too. Sometimes their fingers trembled with grief. But they never left.

He wouldn’t just leave.

“Donnie…?” Mikey slurred.

A stifled sob. A blue mask could be easily confused for purple in the dark.

My two favorite obsessions... TMNT and also tea.

A fan comic for TMNT 2003, drawn digitally in black and white. Panel 1: April leans forward out of her bed to turn off her beeping alarm clock, with her back facing the viewer. Slats of light fall on her bed from an unseen window. Panel 2: April opens her bedroom door, rubbing her eyes blearily. A robotic voice reads, "And the weather for today will be..." Panel 3: April looks into her apartment, messy with trash and dishes. Splinter is sitting on the couch and three of the turtles can be seen sleeping in the background. Splinter says with a smile, "Ah, good morning, Miss O'Neil." In smaller text, he says, "If you don't mind, please keep quiet, as the boys are still sleeping." Panel 4: A shot of April's TV, which shows thunderstorms on the forecast, and her bookshelf. From off screen, April says, "Oh... sure. How long have you been awake? The sun only just rose." Splinter replies, "Merely a few minutes." April says, "Uh, would you like tea?" Then in smaller text remarks to herself, "What do I talk about...? I didn't think anyone'd be up."

Page 2 panel 1: Splinter smiles, saying, "That would be wonderful, Miss O'Neil." Panel 2: April turns to look at him with a smile, saying, "I told you, you can just call me April." Panel 3: April turns her back to look in her pantry, muttering, "Okay, tea..." Panel 4: The inside of April's pantry is drawn in greater detail, relatively empty with the exception of a few staples. A tea box with a Lipton like design shines near the top. Panel 5: April stands before the pantry with a thoughtful expression, thinking, "Oh... I probably shouldn't have even offered. Splinter isn't going to want some shitty bagged tea. What's worse, he won't even complain." The next few panels are narrow and dark, indicating time passing as April sets a kettle on the stove then pours water into a mug.

Page 3 Panel 1: A close up of April's feet as she walks, one of the turtles sleeping on the floor in the background. Panel 2: April hands Splinter a mug of tea with both hands, saying, "Here." Splinter thanks her. Panel 3: April goes to sit down at a makeshift cardboard box table, saying, "Sorry it's nothing fancy. If you don't like it, just let me know. Oh, and it's hot--" Panel 4: April cuts off as the panel closes in on SPlinter immediately taking a sip, looking content. Panel 5: Splinter says, "There is no need to look so concerned, April. The tea is delicious." April replies, "Oh, good."

Page 4 panel 1: Splinter says, silhouetted against a white background, "I've found that few things in life are more precious..." Panel 2: He continues, "than tea shared with others, regardless of the brew or it's quality..." A scene of him and the turtles drinking tea from yunomi plays out. Donny sits ponderously, muttering, "I miss coffee..." Leo smiles and holds a teapot. Mikey is spitting his tea out, saying, "Yuck!" Raph sips his tea, hunched over and silent, looking grumpy but not complaining. The next three panels continue Splinter's dialogue: "In a cup borrowed from someone dear to you." Someone, presumably Leo form the previous scene, pours tea into Splinter's cup. Next, April and Splinter raise their mugs in the present, Splinter's mug having been revealed to have the text "I heart NYC". Finally, an old traditional teaset sits on a platter. It's the same set that Splinter and the turtles were drinking from. The words "For Yoshi" are etched into the tray. Only one of the five yunomi are filled with tea.

(stumbles out of a dark room covered in blood) guess who just drew this four page comic in one! day! because i forgot @tmnt-splinterweek started today. this one is for the prompt "tea"!

Day two fav episode: Fungus Humungous

honestly there’s many episodes I love and will never tire of watching but this one has some of my fav tropes. We got characters experiencing their fears, hallucinations, awesome little mushroom guys running around!! Also the mushrooms dance solo is literally the best! Lives rent free in my mind tbh

TMNT fan comic of the 2003 Turtles. Raphael and Michelangelo are on a couch. Mikey is sitting on the floor with his knees up, Raphael is lazily slouching on the couch on his right.
Text above them reads *Watching Star Trek DS9*
Mikey: So... why does Sisko keep calling that lady 'Old Man'?
Raph: Mikey, if you're just tryina interupt my show...
Mikey: No seriously!

Mikey turns to look at Raph, who looks annoyed to be interrupted.
Raph: She's Jadzia Dax. DAX is like a worm alien that transfers between hosts.
Mikey: That sounds like a horror movie!
Raph: It's not, it's a consensual relationship thing. Anyway, Dax used to be in a dude named Curson, so he was Curson Dax, and he was friends with Sisko.

Mikey turns back to the tv, watching wide eyed.
Mikey: So... Dax, like, used to be a dude and now he's a lady? And could be a dude again later?
Raph: Yeah, pretty much.
Mikey: Oh, cool.

Shot changes to in front of the two. Text above them reads *An Episode Later* . Mikey turns slightly, looking a little nevous.
Mikey: ...Hey Raphie.
Raph looks irritated again, gripping the arm of the couch with one hand.
Raph: What?

Shot changes to a view of the two from above Raph, his face taking up the whole right half of the frame. He looks annoyed. Mikey looks small sitting on the floor on the left. He's staring ahead with big nervous eyes and twiddling his thumbs.
Mikey: Do you think turtles could be like those worms? Like be a dude one day and a lady the next?
Raph: That sounds like a Don question.

Mikey turns to look at Raph. He looks more nervous now.
Mikey: No, like, MUTANT TURTLES. Like if there was a worm in me-- Wait no, if I was a worm-- No, like a turtle in a worm-- Or a worm was in a turtle? Yeah, like maybe I'm just a worm in a turtle!
Raph's gaze softens, his eyes widening.

Shot in front of them again. Raph has leaned forwards, placing his hands on his knees to brace himself. He squints an eye as he looks at Mikey, confused.
Raph: Come again?
Mikey turns his body slightly to look up at Raph, he's places his hands on his chest as a way to gesture to himself.
Mikey: Well maybe I'm just like. A worm who doesn't have a gender, but I'm in a mutant turtle!

Mikey turns his head back to the tv, smiling with his eyes closed.
Mikey: Maybe sometimes the turtle is a boy and sometimes it's a girl! Doesn't matter to the worm, it's still a worm!
Raph has folded his arms on his lap, leaning forwards as he looks ahead, a slight smile on his face.
Raph: Right...

Close up on Mikey from below. Raph is over his shoulder, head tilted slightly in question with a smile on his face.
Raph: Does your worm... feel like the turtle's a girl right now?
Mikey grins.
Mikey: I think so?

Shot changes to in front of them. Raph is grinning big and leaning towards Mikey, affectionately rubbing her head. He holds out the remote in his free hand.
Raph: Alright, sis, is it cool if I put on another episode? So we can talk more about it?
Mikey is beaming with joy, eyes closed, clasping her hands together in front of her face.
Mikey: Yes please!

the year is 2003, you live in the sewers with your brothers, your dad is a literal rat, so you don't have access to a specific kind of language to understand your feelings, but what you do have is star trek. so lets just figure it out from there?

She stopped, turning to face directly at Mona. Her eyes swam with grief and hate and every coal-black emotion this god-awful place seemed to crystalize.

“I know how this all ends Mona.” She watched as Mona’s breath seemed to freeze, pinned under her lead-heavy gaze.

“You can’t bring people like that to places like these. You always lose them here. Either the pacifist within them dies, or you're left with nothing but ghosts.”

She took a breath, words weighed down by the certainty of too many memories to count.

“No matter what happens, you don’t make it out with the same people that went in.”
