The first time I watched this scene, I felt hurt for Wille, I know this would've hurt me.

But I slowly realized that Simon has been trying to get Wille to be more brave and honest with himself since day one_ something that Wille desperately needed_ and I love him for that.

Simon was never content with "taking a hint" from Wille, he never agreed to just let things be, to speculations and assumptions, he wanted Wille to be straightforward, to voice his thoughts and feelings. He literally dragged that "would you like to keep me company" from him, not settling for a vague invitation.

I truly believe that Simon played a significant part in Wille's personal development (whether he realized it or not). He inspired him to be brave, to defend his feelings_ no matter how scary it might be, it will be okay.

_ I'm not trying to stop you, Simon, but it's scary.

_ I know, I'm scared too.

And it worked.

"I just wanted you to know that this is how I feel".

"Me too, I'm scared all the time, but that changes now".

Wille has finally learned that talking to himself isn't enough, and talking to his therapist isn't enough. He might be scared but he can work it out, he can still be brave and take risks and be proud of every feeling in his heart_ and it's okay to be himself, cause he will still be loved. 💜

And then suddenly, shattering the quiet and hushed peace that lays over their vicinity Wille charges forward, brimming with a bright infectious joy as he spins a bit in the snow and looks back at Simon with the widest grin he's ever seen. Simon watches as he runs around a bit, feeling torn between wanting to join him and just enjoying the picture he makes running against the dark backdrop of snow flurries.

“Admit it, Simon!” He calls across the distance between them, waving at him. “Snow is amazing!”

Simon has to laugh, Wille looks so ridiculous in his sweatpants and the jacket he had hastily pulled on and boots that aren’t even laced up. He’s wearing a fluffy hat that is most definitely his sister Sara’s, purple with a fluffy pom pom at the top.

“Admit it!” Wille calls again and then he’s charging at him and Simon’s eyes widen, scrambling away and running in the opposite direction a wild laugh caught in his chest escapes him breathlessly when Wille runs squarely into him, arm around his waist nearly toppling them both to the ground.

Young Royals: things that make me wonder

How much does Nils know about Wilhelm's promise to Simon re the video, and Simon's feelings about that promise being broken? Is he just guessing here about that being the source of tension between them? For that matter, how much does the rest of Hillerska know about it?

They would all have seen Wille's public statement and known he was lying, and would no doubt all consider this the appropriate action. They would also notice that Wille and Simon aren't behaving like a couple, although they do see them interact (they sit together in class several times, the rowing team see them run off together and talk together at training, etc).

But it's not till this scene that Wille admits to Nils that he told Simon he wouldn't make the statement, and that's why Simon is upset. So it seems that before being told that, Nils, and presumably the rest of Hillerska, assumes that Simon's pissed off because Wille didn't admit to being in the video, rather than that Simon is reacting to a betrayal of trust. Which adds another level of betrayal on top of the original one, because it's Simon's refusal to play the game, and not Wille's betrayal of him, that they see as the real problem.

Been catching up on your thoughts and I agree. Making them break up so late in the season made no sense, they needed much more time to be actually able to spend some time apart, grow and then get back together.

It’s really laughable bc they at most spent a week apart and then got back together after the lake scene AND the song and barely even talked about stuff. But they are teenagers so in a sense it makes sense that they would simply ignore stuff.

It was another rushed ending and it’s clear to me that Lisa only had in mind to continue to show her political stance on the monarchy and it pissed me off how every other “couple” had a real and honest conversation while wilmon were either interrupted by third parts or interrupted each other (bc she only can deal with parallels). The lake scene was beautiful but it lacked of something. She put too much in this last season and really thought she could just put bandaids in ep6 but that’s not how it works.

Were we played with s1? I don’t get what happened. That season was perfect with its imperfection and from there it went downhill. Recycling the same things over and over and over again, it’s exhausting.

What other couples had a real and honest conversation? Sargust didn't, Stederika didn't.
