Looking for Nostalgic South Park fandom moments/media

As of 2025, it will be 10 years since I've joined the South Park fandom. To commemorate this, I'd like to archive and document popular/iconic/memorable things from the fandom ranging from around 2008-2015. (basically pre-canon-creek era)

I'm particularly looking for things like artists, fanfics, videos, trends, controversies, basically anything that was a stand out in the fandom from around this era. I am interested in researching these topics and potentially making an iceberg chart for fun.

Some examples of things I currently have in mind:

Vocaloid animations, Kyle in Chains, doujinshis, Kelsey Sanders, The Scenic Route

I would like to document these things, good or bad, as a bit of a retrospective since South Park and it's fandom has been a large part of my life for many years now. I appreciate any suggestions, please feel free to comment or message me anything. Thank you :)

I don’t actually have a specific bingo square in mind, but what I’ve always wanted to see in komahina (or, like, any komaeda ship) would be komaeda dealing with trauma involving planes. It’s just an easy to exploit thing that I feel is underutilized. I guess an easy one would be Survivors Guilt?

It’s as short as the last one but I like to think it’s much sweeter.

Warnings: trauma and mental instability. Self-explanatory.

“...mae...da...! Komaeda!”

“Mm...?”

It was still dark out save for the bedside lamp they had, which was now illuminating Hinata’s stricken face.

“Hinata...kun?” Heavy with sleep and confusion, Komaeda squirmed and struggled to push himself up. With a yawn, he gently touched the other’s shoulder. “What’s wrong? Aha, don’t tell me I kicked you.” He smiles easily, head lolling to the side in a tilt. “I’m sorry. You’re a kind person, so you’ll forgive me, right?”

“Komaeda.” Hinata’s expression remained grim, his tone urgent. Komaeda’s smile widens, yet he still flinched when Hinata grabbed his hand and squeezed tightly. “You were having a nightmare.”

“So I did wake you?” He can’t help but laugh softly even as bile threatened to rise up his throat. “That’s really embarrassing.”

“You started crying.”

And to Komaeda’s dawning horror, Hinata’s fingers brushed against his cheek and came back damp.

“You were crying for your parents,” he clarified solemnly. “Are you okay?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?” The words came before he even needed to think. Even someone as useless and wretched as him could get this right. “Oh, no, Hinata-kun. I’m sorry. I don’t mean to bother you about something so insignificant as...”

Hinata covers his mouth. He cuts himself off immediately in response. Hinata grumbles at him, no surprise there, especially when he pulled his hand away as if burned.

He’s disgusted. From someone like mine, he’s definitely—

“Stop.” Hinata’s firm reprimand does get him to pause. Grimacing, Hinata added, “I know what you’re thinking. It’s not like that. It’s... It’s just urgh.” He trails off into an inelegant sputter. “Urgh.”

“Urgh,” Komaeda repeated with slight amusement. He watched with growing amusement as Hinata’s cheeks burned red and Hinata himself got so much more flustered, burying his face in his hands as he let out a beleaguered groan. Komaeda chuckled at this. “You don’t like it when I talk badly about myself, but you still react like this around me. You’re so funny, Hinata-kun.”

One might call it hypocritical, but... In reality, it’s because Hinata-kun’s so kind.

Hinata even flinches. How he wanted to soothe those worry lines on the other’s face.

He remembers how fearful his parents had been, too—

“Ah.” Komaeda swallowed, hearing his heart thump erratically in his ears. Had it been like this since he woke up? How troublesome. “I, um. I’m kind of thirsty. I think... I’m gonna go get a glass of water.”

“Yeah?” Hinata does turn to look at him, and he has a serious look of concentration. Honestly, under normal circumstances, Komaeda would’ve fawned over him but right now—he just wanted to get away.

He’s fortunate enough not to trip. Though, his stomach sinks when he hears Hinata rustling and padding after him.

“Me, too,” Hinata offered pretty lamely. “I’m thirsty, too.”

He pats Komaeda’s shoulder as he passes by, taking the initiative and fetching two glasses. Notably, he gets ice for one and forgoes it for the other. Knowing that Komaeda always preferred his drinks ice cold while Hinata preferred it a little lukewarm. Done without a word, because catering to him had just become routine to Hinata at this point.

I don’t...

“You’re white as a sheet,” Hinata said, setting the iced glass in front of him and feeling his forehead. “Do you want to talk about it?”

“What even is there to talk about...” The words slip before he can think. Komaeda just twists away, stricken. “I’ve become enough of a burden already.”

“You were dreaming about your parents,” Hinata said, making him stiffen. Hinata sipped at his own water coolly. “When I asked you out, I did consider the fact that you’ve been through a lot. It wasn’t a burden so much as a responsibility I took... Hell, I wanted you to rely on me long before that, too.” He takes another sip, and his cheeks are tinted red again. “When you asked to be friends, I wanted...that.”

Hahaha. He’s so cute. So cute it hurts.

“It’s silly,” Komaeda murmured, tracing the rim of the glass. The chill comforts him, because it had been so warm in the wreckage. Too warm. Actually, it had been so hot he thought he was scorching. When he was discovered, he almost died of dehydration...how funny was that? “I accepted my parents’ death years ago. To still have nightmares about it is... Ridiculous.”

I even have nightmares about my dog. Pathetic. And...

He dare not even think about what happened in despair.

“I shouldn’t have survived,” he whispered. “I shouldn’t have survived that. I shouldn’t have survived the riots. I shouldn’t have survived the simulation. But I did. Because I have Ultimate Luck.”

“I shouldn’t have survived the Kamukura Project,” Hinata pointed out bluntly. “But I did. And you did. We both did, even when others didn’t. We’re alive and that’s...”

“A burden,” Komaeda said.

“Not a bad thing,” Hinata corrected, albeit awkwardly. “I’m...glad you’re still here.”

Haha. Hahahaha. Ahhh.

“I’m glad that you’re here, Hinata-kun.” How utterly ridiculous. Why was he now—? “D...Did you know? While in despair I... I would... I would sometimes watch videos. Videos upon videos of...aircraft vehicles...”

“Oh.” Hinata sighed, setting his cup aside. “Oh, Nagito.”

“Sometimes there’d be survivors,” he whispered, snuffling as he rubbed at his eyes. God, they stung. “But survivors usually got mauled soon after. At least Naegi-san’s sister...” He laughed weakly and pitifully before his breath caught. “I... I asked for those videos to be made... Those videos were...gifts...”

Hinata embraced him tightly and fiercely, squeezing him as he fell apart.

“I was so lonely. So, so, lonely. I never got to see Mama and Papa very often. I saw so many ads for island resorts. I thought, for my birthday, wouldn’t it be nice if we all...?” He wheezed, choking on a sob. “It was nice... It was such a beautiful, beautiful place that when it came time, I didn’t want to leave...”

“It’s okay,” Hinata murmured into his ear, stroking his hair. “You don’t have to carry this alone, Nagito.”

Hinata holds him, doesn’t even complain when his shoulder gets soaked through. Just keeps petting him and whispering gentle reassurances. What a wonderful idiot he is.

Komaeda hiccups when trying to laugh.

“I... If you die, too...”

“It’ll be hard,” is Hinata’s response, and it’s sardonic as it is kind. “One of Kamukura’s talents is Ultimate Survivor.”

Survivor...

Sniffling, Komaeda does peer over Hinata’s shoulder. Their shadows stretch out, entangled into one entity.

“Survive with me, then,” he found himself saying, gripping Hinata’s back. “Okay?”

“Okay.”

Hinata Hajime didn’t hesitate for a second.

[ 10:14 a.m. ] • bakugou katsuki

bakugou katsuki was originally about to head back to the dorms when he heard a rustling beside him. it came from the lush green bushes that lined up the walls of his highschool campus. and behind the greenery was a badly hidden figure sitting on the ground. it was a good morning, the sky was a vibrant blue and everything was pleasant. and you were too big for the small bush you tried to obscure yourself with. it made bakugou snort as he dug his hands to his pockets and looked at you. normally he wouldn't bother but you were an interesting person to him and you were — as much as he hated it — you were his friend.

“what in the fuck are you doing?”

“shut up!”

when you raise your head, his crimson eyes meet your teary ones. you were frowning and looked terrible, biting your lower lip hard to stop the sob from coming. it startles the blonde student a bit but he suppresses that.

“are you crying?”

“no!”

he crosses his arms over his chest and smirks at you, knowingly. “not yet. why don't you just go to your room and cry there, stupid?”

“the tears will fall before i even reach the door, stupid!”

“that's on you then, idiot.”

“what are you even doing here, bakugou?”

he fights the urge to blush from embarrassment. funnily, like you, he's also battling his emotions. bakugou forces a pout and nervously pats the tip of his shoe against the pavement, “just didn't want to be with the other extras yet. you?”

he curiously watches you sigh and look at your hands, “i want to disappear. i just... i miss my home. i like it here but i miss my home. but i can't go back, right? so, i want to disappear and let time pass and wait for all the trouble to go away and return home.”

before you even have a chance to look up and scream at bakugou to not tell anyone about your homesickness, a jacket is thrown to your face. it covers your whole head and neck and you stare at pure black, with the scent of men's cologne and fading sweat.

“here, you can disappear now. just for a while, though. i’m just lending you my jacket.”

it was unexpected of bakugou, which kinda clears up the tears in your eyes.

“go on, cry you big baby.” bakugou urges. “cry while you can. it's stupid.”

“me?” you sniffle.

“yeah, it's stupid of you trying to hold it back when in the end it's going to fall out anyway.”

tears start to roll down your eyes and you sniffle more, “can i – ?”

“ugh, fine you can wipe your tears with it. just shut up now and get on with it.”

“are you gonna stay with me?”

“yeah.” he says. “just for the jacket.”

“okay. thank you, bakugou.”

“tch.”

when you finish crying and pull the jacket down, bakugou’s got a water bottle and a few squares of tissue. “here. you look shitty.don’t you fuckin’ dare tell anyone about this.”

“okay,” you nod, smiling a bit. “that was good, by the way. the crying. can i disappear in your jacket again in the future, bakugou?”

“eh, we’ll see.”

[ 10:38 a.m. ]

a Baku shoes masterpost 

because that’s exactly the kind of person i am

to start off with, little Bakugou doesn’t really seem to have a preference for shoes. on the left, it looks like he’s wearing sneakers, and the middle also seems to be some kinda sneakers. on the right he’s wearing sandals.

in the series proper, these are the first shoes we see Bakugou wear

however, they’re likely just school issued shoewear because Izuku is wearing the same kind of shoes 

this is further evidenced later on, where both are wearing completely different shoes.

these seem to be their own personal shoes, since Izuku is wearing his signature red shoes here. we can’t get a clear image of them but, Bakugou it seems, favors loafer type shoes

this is once more shown in his two character pages, where he’s shown wearing casual clothes and on his UA character page, where he’s wearing his own shoes and not UA’s school regulated shoes.

next are Bakugou’s hero outfit boots.

Now, Bakugou actually didn’t design them. They’re an interpretation of his initial designs  that the hero company came up with

however, he clearly seems to really like them because he specifically wore them during the Sports Festival. either that, or he wore them because they’re specifically designed for battle and work better than any of his regular shoes

(interestingly, he wears them two different ways during the festival. during the Cavalry Battle, he wears his pants over the boots, while later on he tucks the pant legs into the boots)

later on, while at the training camp and when he was kidnapped, he was wearing shoes that seemed like some sort of sneakers?

it’s hard to make out, but they don’t look exactly like loafers, and there seems to be laces on them

in one of the colorspreads, he’s wearing what looks to be combat shoes. this is the only time we’ve ever seen him wear these kinds of shoes, if you exclude his hero shoes.

I love how they added this extra scene of Kirishima smiling at Bakugou so gently in the Boku No Hero Academia One’s Justice game, and Bakugou saying “you idiot” so softly is SO…GOOD…

One For All - Shadow Figures

In Chapter 193, in Midoriya’s dream, Horikoshi hides two of the past users of One For All from Midoriya and us readers… for some reason. Maybe, it’s because we would recognize them? 

And sure enough, Tumblr user @chonideno pointed out in this post that two figures in Midoriya’s dream look similar to Bakugou and Kirishima. The more that I look at these shadowy figures, the more that the similarities stand out to me, too.

Take the figure on the left.

This figure has similar hair style as Bakugou, has some sort of piece around his neck, and is wearing gauntlets on each hand.

Now, take the figure on the right.

There are  baggy pants and some sort of belt-buckle shape on the stomach, as well as a face mask and high-spiked hair. And, possibly the most iconic part of the silhouette – Kirishima’s shoulder gears.

Of course, there are differences. The figure that looks like Bakugou is missing his headpiece. The figure that looks like Kirishima has a different headpiece that allows his hair to stick out a different way. But even still, the similarities are striking. In my mind, it’s too similar to be coincidence.

So, how could something like this be possible? Some people have theorized that it is their future selves. Horikoshi has mentioned that there will be a time skip in the series, so us seeing Class 1-A as pro-heroes is actually quite possible. This would also explain why the hero costumes are slightly different.

However, unless time travel comes into play, it wouldn’t make sense that characters in the future would be past users of One For All.

Unless that’s not who Midoriya is seeing at all.

Midoriya mentions that someone in the line-up of past users is missing. There is already some sort of discrepancy between the past users and what Midoriya is seeing in the dream.

So already, we know that things are happening in this vision, that Midoriya does not understand – including the identity of these hidden figures. They’re in shadow, which Midoriya points out. He attributes their lack of clarity to how far away they are.

But what if that’s not why they’re hidden? 

Midoriya is only at 20% of his One For All power. The first user of One For All says so himself.

And only about 20% of Midoriya is visible – just enough for his eyes to be uncovered, allowing him to see the vision in the first place.

The rest of him is in shadows, just like these two figures. So, what if these two figures are hiden not because they are far away, but because they have not yet received One For All? What if they are future users?

I don’t know what would happen in the future for Midoriya to pass this quirk to Bakugou or Kirishima rather than to someone younger than him. Seems like it must be something bad. It also might suggest that, since they are the last figures that Midoriya sees, that they are the final users of OFA. Also, if this is the case, this means that not one, but three past users of One For All are missing.

The plot thickens!

On kiribaku becoming canon and their evidence:

So I posted this on reddit earlier, but wanted to have it here where more KRBK shippers are, since I just ended up compiling a lot more than I thought I would.

Fair warning: A pretty big text with a compilation of kiribaku moments ahead.

We would all love kiribaku being canon, and I think it's not as much of a longshot as some may lead you to believe.

Honestly, if one of them was a girl, this would most certainly be canon, like, just in the anime we have:

Them becoming friends slowly in the background, leaving us with good development between them that is so seamless it can hit you hard once you notice how close they've become if you hadn't noticed before.

Them arriving and leaving the pool together while walking in the sunset.

They support and compliment each other (both on personality and quirks, like come on).

Kirishima can just lean on Bakugou or side hug him all the time and Bakugou lets him with no problem, which considering who we're talking about is a pretty big thing.

Kirishima can seem even more agitated than Deku about Bakugou being taken, and Deku is the one who idolized him since childhood.

The whole "It has to be you" thing and the precious hand holding (including that little scene after the rescue, where Kiri tries to grab Baku's hand again).

Kirishima bought expensive night vision googles in case they were useful for the rescue even though they had Yaomomo with them (this boy goes through extremes just to ensure his boyfriend's best friend's safety)

Kirishima is officially the one Bakugou considers an equal, and considering his conflicting inferiority and superiority complexes (making him perpetually place people as above him or beneath him) is vital information.

Kirishima is esentially Bakugou's first real friend (as Deku was considered more of an incomprehensible nuisance and his childhood troop seemed more like his followers who just put him up on a pedestal and followed what he did).

Kirishima has jumped in front of danger for Bakugou's sake quite a bit of times (including a time in the movie).

Kirishima is a central piece in Bakugou's character development.

Bakugou was the one who told Kirishima he was strong and gave him his confidence back, reminding him of what he said at the start of their friendship.

Kirishima unlocked fucking UNBREAKABLE because of Bakugou's encouragement.

Going to extra stuff:

Bakugou's favourite hobbie is hiking, and we're shown he takes Kirishima with him sometimes, thing he doesn't seem to do with other characters.

The whole festival thing, with the narrator outright assuming Bakugou must have given his coat to a pretty girl who was cold, only for it to be revealed in another picture that he gave it to Kirishima because as usual, he didn't have a shirt on.

On the movie Bakugou could have taken anyone to I-Island and took Kirishima as his plus one. They share a room. Kirishima bought suits for both of them, with the most detailed one with white roses being for Bakugou, and they decide to go to the party together.

In a BNHA Smash connected directly to the movie, Midoriya notices the white roses in Bakugou's suit and notes that they mean deep respect and "I'm the one for you", which prompts Bakugou to send an explosion his way (not to Kirishima who gave him the suit, mind you), which makes the flowers turn red (from blood), after which Mineta appears to say that red roses mean "beautiful and passionate love".

They are usually seen together in merch stuff.

There are discussions regarding Kirishima's character sheet and the translation of him liking "tough guys" (here's a podt by aitaikimochi explaining the meaning of the translation: https://www.google.com/amp/s/aitaikimochi.tumblr.com/post/171127708911/amp) where even translator such as aitaikimochi have gotten into, and they have mentioned that there's a japanese stereotype of a type of gay guy who is obsessed with "manly behaviour" and usually stay away from women, prefering tough guys instead, which is interesting to say the least.

Some of the light novel episodes which show more slice of life moment feature some good kiribaku moments, with a prominent one being this one wich details their study date (it seriously seems like fan fiction, not even kidding, and this is supposed to be sort of canon):

Also there's a chapter where Kirishima tells Fatgum about Bakugou being extremely happy, and another one where they are arm wrestling between classes and they cheer for one another heavily.

(Honesly, just go through aitaikimochi's whole kiribaku tag, there are some pretty interesting things there)

And in BNHA Smash, there are quite a lot of things, and we must not forget that the whole thing still gets approved by Horikoshi before being published, some of my favourite things are:

Kirishima inviting Bakugou to spend christmas together, with the translators noting christmas in Japan to be a romantic holiday in the same panel.

In one issue, Jirou falls for Kiri and him being oblivious just leaves her for Bakugou.

Once Bakugou becomes a shoujo boy after being his with a quirk and just involuntarily talks in flirt, and in one moment Kirishima outright flirts back.

Bakugou works his ass off to repay Kirishima for the night vision googles they used in the rescue.

Kirishima is literally described as the chicken soup for Bakugou's soul!

An interesting thing I found out is that in the chapter where all of 1A minus Bakugou turn into animals, one scene originally had Kirishima (as a dog) getting jealous of Kaminari and Midoriya petting Tsuyu (as a cat - yes I know, a cat) and giving all their attention to her, however, Horikoshi himself changed that scene, noting he didn't think their character relations worked well in that scene, and made it so that the one that ended up in smash contains Kirishima (as a dog) getting jealous because Todoroki (as a koala) has climbed up Bakugou's torso and won't let go. I saw this all in a tumblr post a few months ago, which showed the original scene in a book (I think it was in italian and was translates below) but I can't currently find the link, sorry, if someone finds it, It'd be appreciated if you could reblog with said link.

And in regards to meta stuff, the show already has some LGBT characters in it, with Magne and Tiger being trans and Toga being bisexual, so it's not as much of a lost cause to hope for this as it would initially seem.

(Please kirimina shippers, don't take offence because of this, it isn't my intention to insult your ship, I simply want to analize what has been given to us, so please try to take this lightly):

We should also take into consideration Krishima's first version in the sort of "beta" for the manga (where Midoriya was Yamikumo).

His character sheet mentions he's quite the delinquent and entered UA to impress a girl. Obviously his character evolved tremendously since then, but the girl was most probably intended to be Mina's equivalent. This was later changed to him liking "tough guys"/"hard liners" and his thing with Mina became more of an "I admired your bravery and heroic spirit when in middle school even if I hardly knew you", later seeing each other and establishing more of a little friendship. However, it hasn't really moved further from there, and Kirishima has already established much stronger bonds with our favourite exploding boy. All changes in characters are made for a reason, and Horikoshi clearly changed his mind on Kirishima's motives for wanting to be a hero and his relationship with Mina.

So yeah, all in all, this ship is great, it's precious, adorable, helps both characters grow, is balanced and has good chemistry. So even if after all these things they don't become officially canon, we still have so much canon material for them in the present I'd honestly still be happy, these dorks make me smile and melt my heart, so I hope they both have good endings.
