Can you please reblog if your blog is a safe place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, asexual, aromantic, pansexual, non binary, demisexual or any other kind of queer or questioning people? Because mine is.
I want to preface this by saying two things, first, I am Autistic, I was born with and diagnosed with Aperger’s Syndrome at a very young age; second, my opinions are my own and I do not speak for all Autistic people, this post is simply me expressing my own views on the subject of Autistic headcanons.
Ok, now what do I think of Autistic headcanons? To put it simply, I hate them with a burning passion.
But to put it more complexly, whenever I see people make posts about their Autistic headcanons of their favorite characters from their favorite books, comics, movies, or TV shows I am filled with this indescribable sense of dread and discomfort. These types of posts never fail to make flinch and grimace, and for the longest time I couldn’t understand why. But now I can finally articulate my emotions.
To me, Autistic headcanons are incredibly dehumanizing.
Most of the people who make Autistic headcanons treat it like a fun window dressing to explain why their favorite characters are so ‘wacky and weird’ instead of the disability that I and so many others are forced to live with.
My Asperger’s Syndrome is an intrinsic part of who I am, and while it does not define who I am as a person, my disability has played a critical role in shaping my worldview and many other aspects of my life.
To use an analogy, think of every human being as a cake; we’re all made of with same base ingredients of flour, water, eggs, and sugar, but unique ingredients are added in during the preparation before each person goes into the oven to bake. That’s what Autism is, an ingredient, but the people who make Autistic headcanons don’t treat like an ingredient, they treat like frosting. Autistic headcanons treat this integral part of who I am, something I was born with and will stay me for the rest of my life, as something to be added on after or on top of their favorite characters.
To see my disability and all my struggle and hardships brought on by it reduced to a ‘fun and quirky’ decoration feels incredibly insulting and dehumanizing.
Look, I know that the people making these Autistic headcanons don’t have any malicious intention, they’re just having fun. But I feel like they make these headcanons with only a cursory knowledge of what it is and without any regard for actual people, like myself, who were born with it.
They’re often made based on incredibly stereotypical and surface level elements associated with Autism that often are not actual indications of the disability. I also see them mostly being made about the ‘weird’ characters, the ones that actively act in outrageous ways. Probably the worst part is that feel like these people think we all act in exactly the same and display the same symptoms when that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Every person with Autism is different, if you have met one Autistic person you have met one Autistic person, we are not a hive mind.
Again, I am just expressing my personal opinions on Autistic headcanons, I speak only for myself and no one else. I’ve met Autistic people who love them, I’ve met Autistic who feel the same as me, and I’ve met Autistic people who are completely indifferent and apathetic to them; we’re all different.
And to reiterate, I am not saying that the people who make Autistic headcanons are bad people and I’m sure they only have the best of intentions. If you have made Autistic headcanons and they make you happy, more power to you, but I only ask that you re-examine why you make them.
My Autism is a disability and an intrinsic part of who I am, not ‘fun and quirky’ window dressing.
Thank you for reading, please have a wonderful day.

Don’t worry, it doesn’t just take down the sources post, but it takes down all the reblogged posts too. Please give this a reblog, many artists out there may not know this is here. And remember, ask permission before sharing, or don’t post it.
Fanfiction Club: The Rules
This idea came to me when I woke up first thing this morning.
Say it with me, kids:
Iwaizumi Hajime is not angry 24-7.
Iwaizumi Hajime is not an abusive, heartless person.
Iwaizumi Hajime knows when to not cross a line.
Iwaizumi Hajime would not say stuff like ‘shittykawa’ if he knew it really affected Oikawa Tooru deep down; the same physically.
Iwaizumi Hajime is just as passionate as Oikawa Tooru and Kageyama Tobio when it comes to volleyball.
Iwaizumi Hajime is very caring.
Iwaizumi Hajime just wants to bring out his and his team’s potential.
Iwaizumi Hajime is usually stern because he wants everyone (Oikawa especially) to be in top form.
Iwaizumi Hajime helped and supported Oikawa Tooru in his own way when Oikawa had hit his lowest point during their middle school years.
Iwaizumi Hajime is a pillar of support that keeps Aobajousai together.
Iwaizumi Hajime is the one who keeps on reminding Oikawa Tooru not to overdo it & take breaks.
Iwaizumi Hajime is not stern all the time. He can have a laugh and joke around too.
Iwaizumi Hajime is a very hard-working, supportive person, aND HE IS NOT ANGRY 24-7.
Do you find yourself using slang in your fics? Or using the BLM movement as plots in your writing or art?
Please, as a black woman who’s kept quiet for way too long, STOP.
When you overuse AAVE in your writing (using it flippantly or without credit to its actual meaning), you’re contributing to the devaluing of the black experience. And, to be honest, when a lot of you use it in your writing it sounds very awkward or is often misused.
What is AAVE?
“AAVE is an acronym for African American Vernacular English. Other terms for it in academia are African American Varieties of English, African American English (AAE), Black English (BE) and Black English Vernacular (BEV). [EDIT: since I wrote this post in 2014, a new term has gained a lot of traction with academics: African American Language (AAL), as in the Oxford Handbook of African American Language edited by Sonja Lanehart (2015), or the Corpus of Regional African American Language (CORAAL). I now use either AAE or AAL exclusively, unless I’m specifically talking about an informal, vernacular variety, however “AAVE” has gained traction in social media just as AAL replaced it among academics]
In popular culture, it is largely misunderstood, and thought of as “bad English,” “ebonics” (originally coined in 1973 by someone with good intentions, from “ebony” and “phonics,” but now starting to become a slur), “ghetto talk” (definitely a slur), and the “blaccent” (a portmanteau word of “black” and “accent”) that NPR seems to like using.” (Languagejones.com)
It is explained more here as well: https://waltdisneyconfessionsrage.tumblr.com/post/116538346824/mod-post-some-basic-things-about-aave
What’s The Big Deal?
This language has long been stigmatized and misused.
“We have a long cultural history of assuming that whatever black people in America do is defective. Couple this with what seems to be a natural predilection toward thinking that however other people talk is wrong, and you’ve got a recipe for social and linguistic stigma. For instance, in 1996 the Oakland school board took the sensible step of trying to use AAVE as a bridge to teach AAVE-speaking children how to speak and write Standard American English. They also took the less sensible step of declaring AAVE a completely different language. This was wildly misrepresented in the media, leading to a storm of racist, self-congratulatory “ain’t ain’t a word” pedantry from both white people and older middle-class black people who do not speak the dialect.” (Languagejones.com)
You can’t use our slang then ignore our issues.
Why You Shouldn’t Misuse It (Or Use It At All)
The issue of appropriation of Black cultural expression has been brought to light in recent years. More people have come to understand why a non-Black person wearing cornrows or dreadlocks is problematic, or why blackface and verbalizing the ‘N-word’ in songs is harmful. Appropriation causes harm when it perpetuates stereotypes, turns culture into a commodity, and uses historical traditions as a trend, while the originating group continues to experience discrimination for the very same thing.
Language can act in a similar manner. Within any culture, language is the basis for communicating ideas, and plays a role in shaping people’s sense of community. Yet, in North American pop culture, Black Vernacular English (BVE) is often used by non-Black people for social capital. Due to its social influence, BVE is often misused out of context in an attempt to be relevant, relatable, or for credibility. (Feminuity.org)
This article sums it up very nicely: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/black-slang-white-people-ruined_n_55ccda07e4b064d5910ac8b3
Key Points
The politics of black slang are tricky. Black slang and AAVE (African-American Vernacular English) have long been considered inferior to so-called “standard” English, and the black people who use it seen as uneducated or unintelligent (forcing many to master the art of code-switching). So when suddenly words and phrases that have strong ties to the black community are adopted and warped by non-black people, it can cause some of us to feel indignant, even insulted.”
“…we live in a society that loves black culture — but doesn’t like black people all too much — and what might look like acceptance is just downright thievery.”
“Listen. The idea here isn’t necessarily to say that white people shouldn’t use certain black slang (although by now we should all be clear on the N-word debate)… But the issue is how the etymology of these words gets lost in the sauce… As a general rule, if you have to ask whether or not it’s OK to use a word, if there’s any hesitation, then don’t. But also, we should all be aware of where these words come from and what they mean without attributing arbitrary definitions to them.”
You drawing characters in BLM merch or supporting BLM is not a problem.
However, when you draw or write about them protesting or rioting or looting, that is a genuine problem. Would you do that in response to the Hong Kong Protests? Would you draw characters protesting against the Terror Bill? Would you draw them with Native peoples trying to advocate for the return of their land? Or, hey, even in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s-1960s?
No. Then what makes the Black Lives Matter movement so different?
Is it the fact that this hits so close to home you can’t process it by any other means than fictional?
What about seeing bnha characters rioting is supposed to feel inspiring? What about reading headcanons on how characters would quit their jobs as cops and protect me from tear gas is supposed to be comforting? These people aren’t real. But this issue is, and it’s serious, and it’s not something trendy or excusable to be filtered through a fictional lens. THIS IS REAL. THIS IS HAPPENING.

A friend on Discord couldn’t have said it better:
Our culture is not for your entertainment. The Black Lives Matter movement is a real, pressing issue. Please, spread information and support your fellow black authors and artists.
FAQ
Does this mean I have to stop using slang/reaction images?
No! Be cautious of how you use it. One article states asking yourself these questions when it comes to AAVE:
Is it being commercialized for financial gain?
Is the usage performative or tokenizing?
Are you in proximity to the culture that originated the terms?
Are you using the language to “level up” or earn yourself credibility?
No one is policing you on saying popular slang, but you need to stay educated on the source of these words and how the overproduction
Do I need to feel guilty or apologize for saying/doing these things?
Of course not! I promise, no one wants an apology or for you to sit around and feel guilty. Educate yourselves. Stay vigilant. That’s all I ask. This is not an attack or me shaming you by any means.
What if I’m black and condone this?
I sincerely ask you to look inside yourself and ask why this genuinely makes you happy. Are you doing it for some sort of validation? Fictional characters aren’t real. When your life is on the line, they aren’t going to magically come save you. When we let things like this get romanticized, it makes it easier to view this situation from a distance rather than how bad it really is and how close to home it’s hitting.
How can I help and/or support the BLM Movement now?
Support black writers and artists!
Be sympathetic towards our issues!

@equizona It's okay! I hate when that happens, too. Take the time you need to finish it, I’m not in a hurry.
@sirimirihiro okay so tumblr is mean to me, and when I tried answering it just deleted over half of my work for your ask? I dont know why but it made me sad, but it might take a while for me to get it out-
It was so hard to choose a character no one had done, istg

Fandom: God there’s like NO content anymore. I wish we could get more art and fanfics :(((
Someone: Hey, I can’t draw anything digitally, because I can’t afford a tablet, but here’s a pen on paper drawing that I spent a lot of time and hard work on. Also, I took a shot at my first fanfic and I’d really like some feedback or at least some kudos if you enjoyed it :)
Fandom: Oh... yeah sorry no... not you. We actually meant writers that are already well known and popular to produce MORE content... I mean, if a popular blog shares your work then maybe. And we don’t really like pen to paper art. We just don’t think it’s professional or even looks good :/
Ok so I love your writing, I think I remember you doing 5 characters, and if you dont do x readers ignore this! Ok so, could I have headcanons for the Bakusquad(mina, baku, sero, kami, and kiri-) bringing their girlfriend to an amusement park cuz they know she loves amusment parks as a date? Thank you :DDDD
Waah, thank you for requesting again so quickly! And thank you for the compliment, too. I’m glad that you like that.
And it’s okay! I realize that not many here don’t do female reader, so that’s understandable. Hope that you enjoy reading these! Sorry that it took me this long ><
————-
Bakugō Katsuki:
- We all know how Bakugō can be when it comes to.. Well, almost anything. Grumpy and not exactly seeming all that excited as his s/o in the beginning.
- But when they once mentioned that it had been a while since they had been to a park because of studies and they were sort of missing it, he spark of inspiration hit. Even if his first response had been something in the sense of, " Hah! That’s stupid.
- I headcanon that he might be one of the richer one of his class. Have you seen this guy's house?! Might need a couple of weeks to pull it off, but Bakugō ends up taking them to an amusement park, even if it wasn’t a traditional invitation?
- " Just come one, idiot! You said that you wanted to go to one of these, right?! "
- Something in that sense. But anyway. Once that you both get inside, he’d probably want to go around of the whole park with you.
- Buys spicy snacks popcorn, likely. It’s popular to have flavored popcorn in Disneyland in Japan. Also, you only need to taunt him once, and he’d be ready to beat any booth here to get you whatever gift you could want.
- Different and more chaotic trip to a park they’ve been to, but one to be remembered.
Kirishima Eijirō:
- The sweetest person in the whole world I love him so, so, so much y'all don’t know-
- He's pretty excited when he heard that you liked amusement parks. It actually made him plan to spare up money do that the two of them could go together.
- If it’s a park that his s/o has been to before, he would love to go all out. Trying the rides that they liked the most, get the best food there - everything.
- Notices their eyes lingering a bit on that one cute plushie a bit long by the booth and of course he ended up getting it for you. He honestly loves to spoil his s/o a lot.
- Holds your hand the whole way around of the park, chatting and holding onto it tightly while on the rides. Even if you both weren’t afraid or if it was boiling hot, he’d keep them close.
- Really wants to see the fireworks show they do. They will not be disappointed with how utterly adorable that Kirishima can be when he is excited.
- Willing to follow them the whole way home. Even if they had said no, he’d still want to, since it has gotten so late that the sun had gone down for hours ago, without either of them realizing it till the last bound of fireworks had gone off.
- Being in an amusement park with Kirishima is a fun ride. Something the would be cherished for long. Exactly why they planned their next visit to be soon.
Kaminari Denki:
- You know that Kaminari knows all the good date spots. Amusement parks were one of those were if you went together, it was bound to end up being a romantic, cute day.
- He will actually beg them to get a set of animal ears when they pass one of the things at the front. He’s always seen couples do it and really wants to try 🥺
- Screams on the rides. His s/o almost thought that he had fazed out of reality when they came back down again. Luckily, he did manage to snap out of it before long.
- Please give him a hug afterwards. Denki really needs some reassurance after that last ride, with the loop in it.
- Wants to share an ice cream/milkshake with them. You know, one of those with a cute mascot theme that look so pretty. With one to share between the two. But, he definitely wants you to eat more of it.
- Takes his s/o up in one of the feris weels. Yes, I stand by that this man is both cheesy and romantic. You two watch the luminous park light up around of you, eyes sparkling over the long horizon.
- Yes, he did kiss them. And yes, Denki would without hesitation go on another day again with them if asked to.
Ashido Mina:
- You know how Mina is essentially one of the most energetic people in all of the class? Yeah, her reaction would be similar to how she would usually react. Peppy and full of excitement, to know that her s/o shares the same passion as her own in amusement parks.
- She,, She really wants to go to Sanrio world [Hello Kitty theme park] or Disneyland 🥺 please, do you know how happy that would make her?
- When the day did arrive, the both of you got there early, so that you both had lots of time to look around and try all kinds of different things. It also happened that there wasn’t that much people in line.
- Oh, you best believe that there is going to be selfies involved! Mina would want to take pictures of her s/o being cute and all kinds of sweets that the two would get together through of the visit.
- Screams and laughs during the rides, as well as holds them so tight so that they both wouldn’t be so afraid not that either of you were complaining about that.
- When the day ends and on the way home with the train, Mina finds herself snuggled up and resting her head against of her s/o's shoulder, tired from all of the adventures, dreaming of the future visits they’d have together.
Sero Hanta:
- Sero has never been the extreme fan of amusement parks. Yes, he did enjoy them and have fun with it. But it isn’t that he enjoys every part about the, though. Do you know how many people that there can get on a weekend or during vacation?
- That was why, when his s/o brought their love for it up one morning that they were walking together, that it had seemed to have hit him a little bit. That he might’ve been a little bit to hard on the idea of it.
- He suggested that the two of them should go when they were free at one point, which had finally seemed to be that day now! One where there wouldn’t be too many people that Wallis be there.
- Lets his s/o walk him through most of it, looking around and trying a ride here and there. For the bigger ones, he would maybe try one of them, even ending up having some fun, despite being a bit terrified.
- He has now also fallen in love with chocolate crepes that you could get from there, despite him usually being to healthy food. The ones that had cream and strawberries in them, with something that he would guess was caramel. They would have to pull him away from buying another one.
- The team-up they had with the laser shooting on that one ride was incredible. No virtual mutant stood a chance for the upcoming hero and his lover!
- Sero definitely has a new love for amusement parks, one which he shared by the one he loved so deeply. In the back of his mind, he’d be reminded to do this more often. For now, he just wanted to enjoy the day they had together.
I’m trying to make a point to a friend
