Coronavirus

The world right now seems to be in a very precarious situation. The SARS-COV-2 (nCOV/Covid-19) outbreak has been labelled a pandemic. The NBA has suspended its season after Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz tested positive for the virus. As has Juventus player Daniele Rugani. Some sports games are being played without spectators whereas others have been delayed or outright cancelled. Coachella has been postponed and so has the new James Bond film. Donald Trump has issued a severely confusing travel ban or maybe not. The UK is moving past phase 1 and into phase 2 of dealing with the outbreak following an emergency COBRA meeting set to take place later today. Numerous high level officials are being tested and diagnosed. The UK’s health minister, in a shocking twist of irony, has the virus. Schools are being cancelled and millions of people are being quarantined. Stock markets are crashing, tourism is falling, airlines are failing, and we’re standing on the brink of a new world recession. And perhaps most heartbreakingly, actor Tom Hanks has also tested positive for the virus.

If you think all of that sounds scary, then I agree with you. It does sound scary. If you look at the numbers, they also look scary.

But it’s important now, more than ever, not to panic. Because panic buying is how we start accidentally buying too much toilet paper, for example. That’s not something we need. But getting hand sanitisers and toilet roll from a claw machine might be. As long as the joystick and buttons are wiped down between turns.

The reason this is happening is because there is a lot of misinformation being spread on the internet. And the media are not adhering to the oath they’ve taken to only provide people with the truth. This is not helping anyone and if anything, is only causing further spread of the virus. When I was a journalism student, I took this oath and now I’m going to give you some Coronavirus facts.

Those who are more likely to be infected with Covid-19 and suffer more severe cases are those with preexisting conditions such as diabetes, asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, HIV/AIDS, cancer, heart disease, cardiovascular disease or otherwise compromised immune systems as well as those over the age of 70. If none of this applies to you, please still be wary.

Over 80% of all reported cases are mild.

It’s important to practice good hygiene, not touch your face and wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water or a high alcohol content hand sanitiser to protect not just yourself, but your parents, grandparents and those around you with preexisting conditions.

Other ways to prevent catching or spreading the virus include coughing or sneezing into a tissue and discarding it, and coughing or sneezing into your elbow.

And an interesting fact, if you joke morbidly like me, that you have the Coronavirus when you have a cold, then you might not be lying because coronaviruses are one of a few different viruses that cause the common cold.

And now for some good Coronavirus news. It’s looking like life is ever so slowly returning to normal in China, where the virus is believed to have peaked and the number of cases is dropping off. South Korea also believe their cases of the virus has peaked. Also, after a nearly two month closure, Shanghai Disneyland is finally beginning to operate again. Just the shops and restaurants for now, but the park is likely not to be too far behind.

If we all do the right things, this could peak soon for the rest of us. But until then, it’s going to get worse before it gets better so please do not panic, but instead be wary. We at YFHA$ will still be right here.

Every 10 minutes, a child under 5 dies of preventable causes in Yemen. Heads up. If you guys end up doing BlackOutTuesday do NOT use the tag for Blacklivesmatter with a black square. Its flooding the tag with absolutely NOTHINGNESS and its blocking vital information that people could be using.

A lot of us are getting our info on whats happening in real time through twitter or instagram (I guess tumblr?? Tumblr is so wildly slow tho?) and its VITAL that we keep those lines of communication up.

Use the tag BlackOutTuesday OR instead of posting a blank image of nothing just use that tag to boost black voices. Take a break on posting your own art or promoting yourself but definitely DEFINITELY do not stop with the flow of info on whats going on. I wouldn’t know there even was a curfew if not for twitter because I’m not getting the alerts where I am.

Things are happening real REAL fast. Just be aware of jumping on a bandwagon before knowing who created it and what its actually going to do.

A Better Life for Sharmaine.

Hi, I’m Danneil John Flores (22 years Old) and I’m asking some donations for my sister’s condition since me and my parents are incapable of supporting her right now and most of my savings are all dried out now. Both of my parents does not have a stable Job, my father is just a pedicab driver and my mother is a housewife. I had a job way back a year ago. I can’t find a job in here since I’m the only one who can do the labors of getting her oxygen refilled daily and also in case of some emergencies, luckily right now (Sept 2019) I was selected to join a free course study of Tesda which can help me get a job! Thank God! Me and my family are also trying to start a small business so that we can also sustain on our own.

Most of the Donations from February 2019 to this day have been all put in good use. We already have repaired her room and put an AC on it since the doctor advise us. Also aside from that the money goes to our family needs, her check ups and medicines.

if you donate one single us dollar to the unrwa, you will have donated more money than you would have by clicking that stupid arab.orb link every day for four and a half years. yes, they do actually donate money to the unrwa, but even with tens of thousands of clicks, most of that money is the baseline $90 they send every quarter. from 2023 quarter 4, half a million clicks turned into $380.57. maths out to six hundreths of one cent per click. just donate to unrwa.

GUYS MY TOOTH NEEDS TO COME OUT ASAP. I CANNOT WAIT ANY MORE.

Guys I made a post not too long ago about how my tooth was abscessed and needed to be seen to by a dentist. Well I went to a dentist in my area and I learned not all dentists pull teeth! That one sure didn’t.

So I had to pay for a $50 visit just for him to look in my mouth and tell me my tooth was abscessed and needed to be pulled (BUT THEN WOULDN’T PULL IT).

Meaning I had to go make another appointment with a dentist that will handle the back teeth! Which I did. Only thing is there’s only a few dentists that will work on those teeth, and the best one is up north of me and it’s a hell of a drive.

I called today and asked if I could just come in as an emergency (because my pain is to the point where I cannot function anymore) and the lady said yes.

But a walk in/emergency appointment is $75.

THEN for them to extract my tooth it would cost me $155.

And that’s not counting the money for gas to drive up there and the cost for the pain relief meds I’ll need after this. I’m hoping those won’t go past $50.

So far getting this tooth removed is going to cost $280 in total.

I don’t have the money to pay for any of that. I currently have $2.27 in my account and I’d be beyond grateful for any help. I’m hoping I can go see the dentist on Monday at the earliest.

I’d be so grateful for donations so I can work again. I can’t stand to look at my computer screen for longer than a few minutes at a time because of the pain from my tooth that’s spreading to my whole jaw and right cheek/face.
