The Half of It is so good not just because it’s a beautiful queer love story, but because, at its heart, it’s about different kinds of love - not just romantic.
Watching Paul, a straight white guy, love Ellie, a Chinese lesbian, was just the sweetest thing ever. I am literally crying while writing this.
You can see throughout the film how Paul just cares for Ellie: making sure her time is compensated, sliding a guitar across the stage at the talent show, making her food, spending time with her father even with their language barrier, encouraging her to go to a party and making sure she’s okay after getting drunk at that party (he literally tucks her into his bed and he sits on a chair).
Ellie’s a quiet nerd who doesn’t seem to engage at all with other high schoolers, let alone talk about herself. But you can see how Paul kind of disrupts that. Her ultimate expression of love and trust is revealing her past (specifically, her dead mother, whom she still clearly grieves for). She writes letters to food critics so he can do something he’s passionate about, she goes to his football games even though she doesn’t even like football, she literally facilitates dates between him and her crush.
And so Paul thinks he’s in love with Ellie, because he doesn’t understand that his love for her isn’t necessarily romantic. He thinks there’s only one kind of love. And Ellie doesn’t think she understands love at all. They’re both wrong.
I honestly thought the film would end with some declaration of love. I figured that Paul would shout “I love you!” as he chased Ellie’s train and that Ellie would mouth “I love you” back. But that’s not how they express love - it’s expressed in how Ellie cries and laughs and how Paul grins like a moron.
TL;DR: The Half of It is a touching love story between two friends.
Wow. Wasn’t expecting to get this emotional.
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE | 8.10 “The Last Day”
is there a fic where lena luthor does this 70 questions by vogue kind of thing but instead of vogue, its catco?
lena's wearing this white flowy dress with a sun hat and theyre walking around this sprawling but warm mansion of a home. and the interview is as boring as it could get, questions like; 'whats ur go to noonan's coffee order?', 'best time to take a nap?' 'have u broken an erlenmeyer flask before?'
BUT BuT at the very end, lena leads the reporter out unto her backyard anD ThEN AND THEN!!!! we get a glimpse of this really ripped woman doing push-ups out on the grass.
and the reporter's like: "IM SORRY MS. LUTHOR, IS- IS THAT- IS THAT KARA DANVERS DOING PUSH-UPS IN UR GARDEN????"
and lena just goes: "why yes. that is kara."
and kara sees them, stands up, walks over with the brightest grin plastered on her face at the sight of lena. and the reporter goes, "MS. DANVERS! WOW. WHAT ARE U DOING HERE??!? I certainly did NOT expect my boss from catco to be here!"
and kara all sweaty and half-naked in a sports bra goes "Brad what're talkin about mister? What do u mean what am I doing here? IN MY HOME? WITH MY WIFE??"
and then kara kisses lena on the lips and u just know the reporter is having a stroke behind the camera.
Lena offers no explanation, already too distracted and thirsty for kara to focus on anything else. She just claps her hands together, says, "well i think we're done for the day, dont u think brad?" and she just dismisses him like nothing. Then all of a sudden lena's getting bridal carried back into the house, and u can hear them talking about dinner plans, "i didnt know ur interview was today. Want me to cook tonight?" unaware that the camera is STILL rolling.
"uh uhm so, that has been lena luthor in 70 questions with catco."
AND THAT, MY FRENS, IS HOW I WANT LENA LUTHOR TO REVEAL HER MARRIAGE TO NONE OTHER THAN CATCO MEDIA EXECUTIVE KARA DANVERS.
In honour of Cody’s recent comment. U right Legend.

not to be dramatic but katie in this fit could have me in a choke hold and i’d thank her
hey just so everyone knows, It Was A Draft
the supreme court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is not official yet. someone leaked a draft of the opinion that the members of the court have been circulating and revising (the draft was created by justice samuel alito).
which is insane by the way. it’s the first time that a draft of a supreme court decision has ever been leaked in the entire history of this country.
it makes perfect sense to feel grief or panic or dread or sadness or anger or whatever you’re feeling right now. this is fucking terrible and scary. just for the sake of avoiding misinformation, i wanted to clarify this because i think a lot of the headlines have been misleading, and the info gets even more misconstrued when it’s rephrased on social media and stuff
