ideal version of bnha is where instead of whatever pointless bullshit was happening with deku and star n stripe we just got an entire arc of the todorokis being forced by authorities to be shuttled off somewhere for their own safety against the furious civilian masses, along with the toga and iguchi families, for a tense and brutal exploration of both the toll and stress inflicted on the families of criminals/villains, but also the ways those family environments planted the seed for those criminal acts. except it’s all framed as a sitcom where the todorokies are the collective straight man, the togas are chewing the scenery with their melodrama, and the iguchis are locked in an intense debate over whether their kid is gay and if it’s homophobic for him to be gay.

Hey so I took your header to heart and decided to sit down and read some Marx. Some of what he said comes from good ideas but did you know he was a huge anti-semite? I read a whole article written by him were he goes on rants about Jewish stereotypes and claims we need to get rid of them to achieve an equal society? As a Jewish person myself, I'm a little taken aback that you advertise his readings.

something i’ve been turning around in my head for a bit: i think it’s different being disappointed when a character with no clear motivation or set of values takes a turn you personally didn’t want, versus when a character who DOES have a clear, established motivation and values has those aspects abandoned. there were so many people who were upset with the direction hox’s character took, saying it wasn’t right for him and he should’ve stayed with the LOV, but honestly hox betraying them was always a possibility and there was no established characterization that ever implied he wouldn’t side with the heroes. just because there was a lot of fanon and theories about it doesn’t mean hori “took” something from y’all or wrote badly just because you didn’t like it.

there’s more argument to be made that, for example, deku’s characterization is less consistent and the writing might be weaker with him. deku IS someone with more-or-less established motivations and values, who tells off shouto’s abuser early on but in the late series only seems to take a conciliatory approach to the todorokis’ situation. there’s at least a case to be made that deku turned way too much from his earlier stance on the issue and it felt manipulated in order to support the abuser’s redemption.

these two cases are just not the same.

After all, when Shouto held out his hand to Endeavor to team up one month ago in the hospital, Endeavor didn’t just turn around and ditch him without a word

And when Shouto tried to text him like - dad, did you forget about me, Endeavor obviously didn’t ghost him

And when Shouto asked again, Endeavor didn’t immediately make it about himself and admit that he took it more as an inspirational “I support you dad”

And when Shouto gave him another chance surely he jumped on it immediately, right?

And Shouto was jumping for joy that his dad wouldn’t come along surely? That he broke yet another promise to the family?

And of course even if Endeavor tried to find Touya, it would have been impossible because he was so cautious hiding and never out in the open right? Almost begging to be found?

Poor Endeavor, he was trying so hard to do the right thing, but a wingless bird, a quirkless skeleton guy and his youngest child bullied him so he couldn’t.
