Nooooooo π that's horrible!
I don't WANT them to bring back Tennant whenever they want! I want them to just let Gatwa have the chance everyone else has gotten!!!
They'll probably tie up the loose end whenever they think the publicity's dropping enough for them to bust out Tennant again :/ which could be any time they want.
Does the whole 'bigeneration' thing as an introduction for Ncuti Gatwa make anyone else feel icky? Because I definitely feel like they did Gatwa dirty with a botched transition between regenerations because people are getting a liiiiiiittle too nostalgic with the whole RTD/Tennant thing.
Tennant is a brilliant actor, and I'm not trying to downplay everything he's done for the show, but by leaving Tennant alive, they robbed Gatwa of an introduction that shows respect to his iteration of his character, instead leaving him to be the Random New Person while The Real Doctor is yet to come into the completion of his arc.
It's just a disappointing diversion from giving Gatwa's Doctor the focus and development he deserves.
official bbc doctor who instagram you are insane for this actually
if i was like an average guy on galifrey and every day i put on my stupid little hat and my scholars robes and got on the Time bus to go to my minimum wage particle accelerator engineering job and i got the telepathic presidential alert that doctor frankenberry and count chocula were once again contesting the fate of our planet to drag out their divorce proceeding. probably i would also be a little high strung
The Doctor - Not Strong Enough
that leela doesn't understand the phrase "chronic hysteresis" but does know what a time loop is implies to me that gallifreyan has scientific/non-scientific doublets somewhat akin to the latinate/germanic doublets in english. thus, leela knows damn well what the gallifreyan for time loop is, but romana using specific scientific vocabulary throws her off because it's not core vocabulary and she's simply never heard the term before
Rose Tyler was poor. She didn't finish her A-levels, she lived in government housing, she worked a shitty retail job with no hope of college or university on the horizon, she was 300% what her classist society would view as trashy; thick mascara, dark roots, the whole nine yards.
But she was the most important woman in the universe to the Doctor, to so many she impacted; beautiful, brilliant, adored. She was the love of his live(s), and so, so many who met her were touched in some way just because she was herself, and because her conviction, her love, and her compassion were so powerful that they radiated across universes, throughout time, and changed everything, over and over again.
And I know all of this has been said so many times, for almost twenty years now, but Rose, I think you will always be my favorite fictional woman of all time.
average doctor who poll: who would be the greatest serial killer? innocent classic who companion or well-known nuwho side character who happens to own a knife? every single reblog is #innocent classic who companion literally #becomes a serial killer in their spinoff series I Am Become A Serial Killer #which clearly none of you have read or you wouldn't be voting nuwho. nuwho side character is winning by a 68% margin
aint no WAYYY THEY JUST TRIED TO SAY THAT. not even "the doctor's" but doctor who's in general ππ so now that they have a disney contract every single gay thing (which they've had for fucking decades) is gonna be a huge big huge first gay thing ever!!1!1!1!! event??? like yeah there's a very specific significance to it i get it but what the fuck do you meanπ jamie pull up the files
it feels like this season, doctor who is dealing with the fundamental rules changing. it was strictly sci-fi, you could always logic your way out of any problem with technobabble and a clever plan.
but it feels like so much of the plot is wrapped around poking at the medium of being a television show, of being a story. we have multiple characters looking at the viewers, we have the maestro playing the theme tune, we have such clear parallels to season 1 (2005) that it feels like a universal coincidence. like the whoniverse itself is recognizing its a medium and playing with its tropes.
the genre is changing too - we are leaning more and more into fantasy, rules like you would see in stories about fae, not sci-fi. musical numbers out of nowhere that no one seems to question, with rain inside and musical sidewalks. the vocabulary of rope and power in coincidences. hell, even the way that time travel works is changing! suddenly stepping on a butterfly (specifically a trope in scifi that has been mocked/debunked previously) has consequences. the doctor swiping away the translation circuit's effects with the wave of a hand and breathing life back into a creature without breaking a sweat.
not to mention the way that space babies foreshadows to a universe that creates a story with all the ingredients it knows are supposed to be there (re: bogeyman - there's supposed to be a villain so it made one)
something IS going on. there is a bigger player - bigger than tecteun, bigger than the toymaker. could it be rtd just having a grand ole time using canon as is playground? maybe. but i hope it's something cool.
the time lords actually invented looms because they had a serious macbeth infestation. don't listen to that nonsense about the pythia they just really needed some people who weren't of woman born to kill all those bloody macbeths
Iβve been trying to change this to a secondary blog please help. (Any pronouns)
