specifically, he has self preservation issues. he's always getting frustrated with Kwazii, or just physically holding him back, calling him "reckless," etc. Always telling him to be careful; and what does Kwazii always say?

And he's right; he is always careful. Aside from a couple bumps on the head here and there, Kwazii almost never gets hurt, no matter how much danger he puts himself in.

Barnacles on the other hand:

threw himself into literal acid.

threw himself under a giant falling ice chunk.

threw himself on top of the cone snail, AFTER already getting stung.

stood infront of an out-of-control Gup-B.

grabbed an actively chomping shark by the face.

and has been stung by jellyfish three times; once in this image, once in The Manatees, and again in season 5.

and of course, we all know The Manatees Episode™.

I think one reason he's always worried about Kwazii not being careful, is because he's not careful himself, so he believes that Kwazii's going to get hurt one day. He doesn't want that.

(I'd like to note that in all of those situations, he was trying to protect someone else, and I love that—but also Kwazii is very protective of his friends and the creatures he meets too, which just makes Barnacles see himself in him even more. furthering his worry.)

The fact that they call it the food pyramid and not the food triangle implies that it has two more sides so what are the illegal foods?

MY FIRST ATTEMPT AT A SIDE PROFILE IS SO-

The Human phrase of “eyes being the window into the soul” is bull. Its not scientifically possible.

At first they wondered, how can you tell exactly what others are feeling, just from their eyes? How?!

They’re just eyes. Nothing special. Humans eyes aren’t even as big as the Zoor’garth or as many as the Thenns of a thousand eyes. They can’t even change colour like the Datten!

That was what Zar think as well. Their friend Rachel had brown eyes that didn’t do anything special. Of course, like always in a story like this, they were proven very very wrong.

It was after they had become close “friends” as Rachel called that Zar would notice something more.

Rachel eyes would gleam when she ate her favourite snacks or when something funny happened. The colour remained unchanged but they reminded him of moons when they gleam with something. Curved into two tiny crescents.

They would glint. Like a spark has been set off, when something catches her interest. Almost like a predator catching sight of prey, he realised with a shiver. Her eyes would narrow down slightly and they would sharpen.

Funnily enough, it seems that Zar was the only one who noticed the subtle movements. Maybe it’s because as Rachel had said, they were “best friends forever” and had been granted special privileges. Or maybe it’s because he made spent more time with them.

Whatever the reason may be, Zar himself doesn’t really care much. Rachel is still Rachel.

In the end, it’s just one of those things that make a human human. Best not to think about it too much, lest he becomes like one of those crazy human-booklet scientists.

Wait this makes sense

So we all agree that Kwazii and Shellington are neurodivergent, right? Right. But hear me out: Captain Barnacles is autistic.

*cracks knuckles* let's go—

His voice is very stern, monotonous, and very loud, at all times. He always speaks like this, even when he's being casual or funny. No matter what emotion he's feeling, either.

His catchphrases are part of his social script, the octo-alert is part of his routine, and he gets visibly bumbly when they're interrupted or triggered unexpectedly.

He very often does this thing where when the octo-alert is randomly sounded, he will instinctively react and begin saying his catchphrase, before getting really confused.

See also this scene where, really, there's no point of sounding the alert, as they're the only ones there, and everyone else is busy—when Tweak is unable to do it, Barnacles pulls out his compass, and does it himself. Plus the time when he sounded the alert telling everyone to go to the launch bay, but they were already there. He also has a morning routine, seen in ROF.

He always knows when Tweak has an invention that is perfect for whatever oddly specific situation they're in, when nobody else does. Likely because he doesn't like surprises/unexpected things, so she always tells him when she starts a new project.

Sensory issues! Observe his reaction to a loud noise:

Yes, everyone reacts negatively to the noise, that's true, but look at him! He completely recoils and tucks into himself, he tries to flatten his ears, he shuts his eyes, and he even shakes his head.

Special interests: music (his accordion), ships (his tiny hand-built models), and the octopod itself.

He wrote 3 books! 3!!! Just on how to pilot the Octopod. For who? Himself. Who else could actually read these books, and understand any of it? Even Peso in that scene says he doesn't think he'd understand it.

The octocompass is a comfort item for him—the entire cuttlefish episode is him being stressed about getting it back after it's lost, and he gets easily frustrated whenever it doesn't work.

I'm out of space for pictures, but he struggles with social cues sometimes too.

Amazon River special: Kwazii has to directly say to him "that's your cue." when he misses his hint to sound the octo-alert.

Seahorse Tale ep: Kwazii is worried Barnacles is mad, and he doesn't notice at all.

Great Barrier Reef: Kwazii whispers the secret ingredient to him, and he repeats it out loud.

Miko Nakadai corruption arc go brr

In the tfp au the main cast might go through some side changes, more particulary Miko. She is the first to fully turn to the Decepticons' side with Raf following soon after while Jack stays with the Autobots along with his mom.
