Lain: "It Doesn't Matter Which Was Real, This World Or That One. I Was In Both. ... I Am A Program Designed

Lain: "It doesn't matter which was real, this world or that one. I was in both. ... I am a program designed to destroy the barrier between the Wired and the Real World. Even you, Arisu, and everyone else-- you're just applications. The truth is, we don't need bodies." 

Arisu: "That’s wrong. I don't really understand what you're saying, but I think you're wrong. Your body is cold, but you are alive, Lain. I am, too. See?"  

(Arisu lets Lain feel her hearbeat.)

Lain and Arisu together: "It's beating... beating... beating...!" 

(They both laugh.) 

Lain: "But why? Why is your heart racing like that?" 

Arisu: "Because I'm scared. It's pounding like that because I'm scared." 

Lain: "But you're smiling, Arisu." 

Arisu: "Yes I am, but I'm scared at the same time."
