The dynamic in Rise between the rest of the team and Leo is. so fucking funny. Because like you've got these three extremely talented individuals who all seem like perfectly reasonable people at first glance, right, but then if you squint hard enough you realize they're actually all batshit insane (affectionate) and the clown boy standing behind them is secretly their common sense.

Clown boy will occasionally put himself and the others in danger to Prove Himself or Prove Someone Wrong (see Minotaur Maze and the movie) but like otherwise... i think people forget Leo's overwhelmingly the voice of reason in most situations?

Raph, Mikey, and Donnie are all incredibly powerful boys with very specific skill sets. They are also, as a direct result of this, the WORST decision-makers on god's green earth lmao. When presented with a problem, Raph will smash, Donnie will blow shit up, and Mikey will razzmatazz. They will all run straight toward death with the same oblivious enthusiasm of a dog about to run straight into a screen door. None of them realize this and all of them think they are Extremely Good At Problem-Solving.

And the guy cursed with the common sense to realize this is literally the LAST person anyone would expect.

When you look closely, the entirety of Rise is actually a chronicle of Leo trying to find new and creative ways to keep this team of superpowered fools alive while simultaneously white-knuckling his Cool Fun Guy persona so the others don't realize he's secretly the Boring Responsible One. Haha, you know what would be Cool and Fun, guys? Not going after the Spine Breaking Bandit lol. Getting home before the sun goes up lol. Evacuating that civilian lol. Not telling the guy dangling me off a roof "you won't, no balls" lol.

The sacred struggle of every iteration of Leonardo is thanklessly wrangling the most trigger-happy siblings in the world, and Rise Leo has not escaped it. He just does an occasional shenanigan to avoid detection and his brothers fall for it every time.

also cinnamon roll and a huge romantic but it a sasslord and tried to commit a murder spree

1987

awkward lil guy but is also a major sasslord (rivaling raphael and sometimes being worse than him). also has had the most action packed fight scenes with shredder (that i’ve seen) and got close to killing him.

rise

the ultimate sasslord, despite having a ton of sunshine moments and being pretty soft on the inside. hasn’t had a murder arc yet but i would not put it past him. he’s already risked his brothers’ wellbeing more than once.

2014/2016

sweet awkward guy. annoying little sibling to raphael. still insane (HE FREAKING JUMPED OUT OF A PLANE WITH NO HESITATION??)

i haven’t read a whole lot of it, but from what i have seen … he’s still a pretty nice guy, but he was also the one to kill shredder in the first issue.

has a big heart and a strong urge to do the right thing. doesn’t make him a pushover tho. he’s very stubborn and has argued with leo a lot. i can’t remember a specific time he was murderous but i wouldn’t put it past him either.

2007

tired brother just trying to lead in leo’s absence. clearly loves his brothers, but sasses them regularly. we don’t see a lot of him, but he did outright disobey leo.

we’ll see if mutant mayhem brings a similar vibe

i love how in the recent two version of tmnt (2012 and Rise) the boys have a favorite tv shows they obsess over, especially in 2012 where it had such a big part of the plot sometimes that they basically made a tv show for a tv show

sadly, apart from comic books (and even that it was only Mikey), the 2003 boys didn’t have that… so it is my headcanon that they grew up watching early 2000s anime mostly Naruto

Once again, Tumblr manages to succeed via just being honest with their users.

I made a post back around April fool's about the crabs being so popular because the joke was that every other website tries to trick you into clicking things so they can make money from your clicks and what if instead a website just asked "please click this revenue generating crab. It is there to generate revenue. In return you will have clicked on a crab. Nothing more." And the answer to that question was "people will frantically click on that crab. They don't hate the idea of the website getting money, they hate the idea of being profited on against their will".

So Tumblr implemented actual revenue crabs. "For this much money you can fill your or someone else's dash with virtual crabs. This will have the effect of there being crabs on their screen."

And people will buy those crabs. Because yes you're spending money on something stupid and useless but it's being sold to you as "hey you want something stupid and useless?", which is a nice change of pace from every other site trying to make itself out to be something more than what it is.

Twitter is floundering with the checkmark system because it's being sold as "confirm that you are someone important and who you say you are is true", which it isn't at all right now because anyone can buy one. You're buying a useless checkmark that only says that YOU think you're important. Or, more often than not right now, you are intending to trick other people into thinking you're someone you're not.

Meanwhile, Tumblr just said "Consider this double check mark. It does nothing. You will be marking yourself as someone who paid money for a meaningless checkmark and sometimes it will randomly turn into a bunch of crabs, making the site harder to use". And the userbase is like "Well sure, that sounds delightful."

The point is, despite what all the marketing and advertising people have tried to say, painting trash gold and trying to pass it off as something better is almost never as effective as just saying "hey you want this trash?"

Like I know Hypno and Warren disappear from the movie after the first act or so but I’ve decided they feel really really bad and try to help out. Warrens able to get into small spaces in collapsed buildings and stuff and check if anyones stuck inside, and then Hypno gets them out. They also use his hypnosis to make people forget they saw them so they don’t get in trouble. I think they send the turtles a nice “sorry we inadvertently let aliens invade New York” gift basket too.

Repo Mantis hauling away rubble in the aftermath. He acts like it’s just cuz it’s good valuable scrap but he’s also losing just as much scrap giving away building/repair materials and helping fix up cars and generators for folks.

the purple dragons keeping wifi/cell service alive so people can contact their families and make sure they’re safe.

1. Renet was originally supposed to be in Rise

2. The original plot of the movie was supposed to be Rat King taking control of splinter.  It was supposed to be a tragic story of Father against sons (I NEED this)

3.  The movie takes place a few months after the series, not two years.  I’m now side-eying all my stories

4. They were very vague on a season 3.  It was very much “Keep hope alive.  We still want to do a Rat King movie.”

5.The original movie opener is brutal in the best way ( also Splinter was missing in it.)

6. The movie was originally going to be a Raph movie and they switched it to Leo.

7. They fought not to retcon Rise!Casey (foot recruit)

All in all, good panel.  Would have loved a definitive answer on season 3 but I also like that it’s vague.  That means it’s not a no.
