I love scrolling through tumblr

Been a hot bit and seeing everything through a different lense now

Been collecting feathers and co for 8 years and saw alot of changes, hopefully soon I'll have a job and take care of my collection without too many issues

To say that this hobby was a wild ride is an understatement, tho I learned alot and hopefully I can apply that knowledge for the future

Edit: I don't think I'll post alot from my collection on here since I just do it in my private friend group. Atleast I don't wanna sound like I am showing off or anything, going through some old posts on here I can see how much crazy stuff I missed out on. My ethics probably don't match with others people's views. So I will just vibe

I got an insect box and thought I'd put my bird skins in there.

So much gathered after years of collecting

I wish I could display more, I have to buy more insect boxes in the future.

I have random question

How many people from the "vulture culture" community or collectors that don't identify themselves as those are working in museums/research or other jobs that have to do with animals?

Something like, zookeeper, vet or like falconer?

Are some of you also artists?

I am mostly just curious how often people who have this hobby end up in these workfields.

I don't know how many end up working in museums, I only know about me, my friend and another person but that person never really collected that much.

How did the hobby affect you in life? Did it help you find a career path? Or is it just a hobby you are passionate about?

Random thought of tonight.

My hobby helped me shape my career path and now I wanna make sure to put my knowledge into good use.

Also there is are baby pigeons outside my window and I can hear them getting fed-

heyy could you post a tutorial about bird taxidermy? (or like links to websites that detail it?)

i got 2 pheasant chicks from a friend and i wanna try to preserve them 🥺

Heya anon! Sorry if I couldn't answer you earlier, I am quite busy nowadays. I have my finals soon so I sadly don't have time to explain things BUT

I have this playlist a friend of mine put together, it includes a bunch of videos of how to make study skins etc.

Would anyone be interested if I try to do some researching and try to write down about local laws in europe and such?

I know this often brings debate in the community, because this can make people emotional who would really like to own stuff etc.

But trust me there are alot of things that can be owned legally, tho I am also guilty of doing mistakes.

I just, it's been 8 years. And I find this topic really interesting and I feel like there is a great lack of some proper resources put into one post.

And only things I usually see are people mentioned MBTA the moment an American collector shows a bird. Even tho laws are strict everywhere, but I think it has always been mostly towards Americans where people point fingers at. Atleast in the English speaking side of the Internet.

But I could mostly only research about birds because that's my main interest, I don't know much about mammals or fossils.

Insects I don't know much either tho, alot of stuff seems legal (please some insect collector tell me their perspective, I am curious), mostly honey bees are protected etc.

(Maybe one day I'll start an insect collection, there are sooo many gorgeous invertebrates out there, so many shiny and pretty insects!)

I hope it's alright for me to try and maybe write something cool and informative that could be used as a reference when obtaining things. I just find this topic very fascinating/interesting and have been wanting to make something like this for ages. I just have no clue how people would react.

Since in a previous post I mentioned that I don't share my stuff that much outside of my local discord friend group anymore, I have no clue what's going on on other social media sites XD

I have my final exams soon so I won't have much time to write something but perhaps afterwards (probably in two months it depends)

edit: I saw quite a bunch if people already did a bunch of similar things, so ofc I don't want to copy what they did, maybe I can find something that hasn't been talked about thus far. But I'll look around when I have time.
