(How do I look?
Uh-oh... You really like it that much? *blushing*)
Heheh, after seeing this cute drawing I just couldn't pass by and not draw my version. It's just a small sketch, but maybe make something more out of it...?
sometimes ideas come into your head and sometimes you just have to listen to them đ°
It all seemed so sudden.
Midoriya had been trying to pick up the pieces of his life after the war. After losing his quirk, heâd been trying to find his place in UA. Midoriya was so focused on trying to find himself again, he failed to see what was forming between his classmates.
Class 2-A was nearing the end of the school year when it came out that Todoroki and Bakugo had begun dating. Midoriya, who had loved Bakugo since childhood, was devastated.
Uraraka seemed worried for Midoriya because she was the only one aware of Midoriyaâs crush on Bakugo. Rather than congratulating the new couple, Uraraka quickly rushed Midoriya off to her room.
âHow could I have not seen it?â cried Midoriya, tightly squeezing Urarakaâs pillow.
Uraraka let out a shallow breath. âI knew they were getting closer, but I didnât think theyâd be getting closer romantically.â
Midoriya tried his best to speak, but sobs came out instead. Uraraka gently rubbed Midoriyaâs back, pity in her eyes.
âItâs all my fault. If I wasnât so worthless Kacchan would have noticed me,â wept Midoriya, his back hunching forward as he began hyperventilating.
âNever say that again. You are the greatest hero thatâs ever existed. You are beautiful. Youâve done an amazing job despite the shit thrown your way. Never amount your worth to a boyâs attention,â lectured Uraraka, cupping Midoriya's face and shooting Midoriya a warning stare.
Midoriya wilted a bit, his lips wobbling. âIâm a horrible friend.â
Urarakaâs frown deepened, her concern getting worse. âWhy would you ever say that? Youâre an amazing friend. I couldnât imagine anyone filling the space you have in my heart.â
âI should be happy for them. I should be down in the common room congratulating them. I should be laughing and doing something dumb with you, not crying in your room about heartbreak. Iâve been a crappy friend since the war,â revealed Midoriya, staring up at the ceiling.
Uraraka crashed beside Midoriya, grabbing his hand gently. âIâd rather be here to support you at your low points like you always did for me. While I hate to see you upset, Iâm happy I can be here for you. Thereâs always another day to do something stupid and fun.â
Midoriya remained quiet for a bit, taking deep breaths as he gathered his thoughts. âI want to get away from here.â
âHuh? What do you mean?â asked Uraraka, curious as to what Midoriya was thinking.
âI want to see the world, maybe transfer schools. I donât want to be some hero sidekick. I think that would hurt more than not being a hero at all,â confessed Midoriya, finally opening up about the thoughts heâs had since the war ended.
Uraraka sat up, looking down at Midoriya. âReally? You want to leave?â
Midoriya sat up, quickly grabbing tissues to wipe his runny nose. âHonestly⌠yeah. I just donât feel like this is the place for me anymore. I feel isolated and trapped. Iâm only here because of you all.â
âI donât want you to leave, but I understand why you want to. Sometimes itâs hard to be here without all the reminders of the past. We used to be so youthful and happy,â reminisced Uraraka, recalling how innocent it all used to be.
âNow everything is so⌠so ugly,â commented Midoriya, picking at one of his dozens of scars.
Uraraka hesitated a bit before responding, âYeah. I donât know if you feel the same, but it also seems empty.â
âMhm. Maybe it makes me childish, but I think Kacchan and Shoto getting together was my final straw,â mumbled Midoriya.
âWhatever you decide, just know I will support you and be there with you through every step,â reassured Uraraka, grabbing a tissue and blowing her nose.
The rest of class 2-A were shocked by the sudden news of a relationship. Kirishima was beyond confused. He had thought that Bakugo and Midoriya were in a secret relationship. There was this oddly electric tension between the duo.
Iida was supportive of Todoroki and Bakugoâs relationship, but he was extremely concerned for Midoriya. It was clear he didnât take the news well and Uraraka was quick to drag him off. It was clear there was something he didnât know.
Kaminari and Jiro were supportive, cheering on Bakugo for making a move. Many students decided to confess their love after the war, worried about the possibility of never being able to get the chance to. Kaminari and Jiro were one of the couples and they were going strong.
Many others in the class were surprised and happy. It was always fun to have a new couple to tease and pick on.
When Todoroki and Bakugo decided to tell the class that they were dating, they were the most excited to see Midoriyaâs reaction. They couldnât wait to see his shocked expression and hear his happy analysis mumbling which was rare since the war.
They did not get the reaction they expected. Midoriyaâs eyes widened in shock, but a smile didnât accompany it. His pained expression came as fast as it left, but both Todoroki and Bakugo saw the hurt in his face.
Midoriya was quick to cover up whatever he was truly feeling and offer a smile. Except his smile was nothing in comparison to the blinding, toothy smile we wore day in and day out when they were first years.Â
Before they could reach out to him or even look to one another to make sure the other saw his reaction too, Uraraka made a move. Uraraka wasnât smiling as she snuck her hand into Midoriyaâs and guided him away.
Midoriya didnât put up a fight and mindlessly followed. They watched as Kirishima turned to ask Midoriya and Uraraka what was up, but quickly shut his mouth after seeing something.
Kirishima shot Uraraka a thumbs up with a sympathetic frown and Uraraka nodded her head in response.
Todoroki and Bakugo quickly felt concern bubble to the surface. The first thing that came to mind was that something was going on with Midoriya that they werenât aware of. The second thought they both shared was that something was going on with Midoriya that they should have been aware of and completely forgotten.
âWeâll talk to Izuku later,â whispered Bakugo, resting a hand on Todorokiâs shoulder.
Todoroki nodded, raising a hand to rest on top of Bakugoâs. âOkay, good. Iâm worried.â
Midoriya spent a lot of time with Toshinori after the war. When all of class 2-A tried avoiding Midoriya to avoid their feelings, Toshinori was the one Midoriya could open up to.
The mentor-student, father-son duo bonded deeply over the loss of One for All. Toshinori was nearing the end of his mental recovery and Midoriya was in the beginning of his. They lost it within a year of each other so they could bond over something they miss. They could bond over being quirkless, gaining a quirk, and being quirkless again.
After Midoriya could maintain his composure for longer than five minutes, Uraraka suggested that Midoriya talks to All Might. âI think All Might would be a great person to talk to about wanting to get away. Maybe he could offer some advice or wisdom,â offered Uraraka, flashing a gentle smile.
âYouâre right. Iâll go talk to him now,â agreed Midoriya, feeling a lot better with Uraraka guiding him in the right direction. Right now, he needed someone he admired and someone who would want the best for him.
Uraraka rose from her bed and tightly hugged Midoriya. âI just want you to know⌠no matter what you decide to do, Iâll always want you to be a part of my life. You are the best friend I could have asked for and I donât plan on letting you escape our friendship.â
âI wouldnât dream of it,â laughed Midoriya, carefully hugging Uraraka.
Midoriya stood by the elevator and called Toshinori. âAll Might.â
âYoung Midoriya!â cheered Toshinori from the other side of the phone.
âCan we talk?â asked Midoriya shyly, suddenly feeling nervous that Toshinori might reject.
âOf course. Is something wrong?â inquired Toshinori, concern laced in his tone.
Midoriya panicked, not wanting to worry Toshinori. âNot necessarily! Itâs just I have a lot on my mind, and I wanted to talk about it with you.â
âWell, perfect you called me now! Iâm going on my afternoon stroll. I can meet you in front of the 2-A alliance and you can join me,â invited Toshinori, practically beaming where he was standing.
âOkay, Iâll be down quickly.â
âSee you soon, Young Midoriya.â
âSee you, All Might.â
Midoriya quickly took the elevator down to the ground floor and quickly made a beeline for the entrance. Most of class 2-A was still down in the common room and watched Midoriya make his way out.
Kirishima jumped up from his seat and rushed over. âHey Midoriya!â
Midoriya quickly turned to face Kirishima with a kind smile. âHi Kirishima, whatâs up?â
âI just wanted to make sure youâre okay,â revealed Kirishima, lowering his voice to keep people from hearing.
Midoriya couldnât stop the surprise from showing on his face. âOh, uh,â stammered Midoriya before taking a deep breath and smiling. âIâm okay. I just needed a moment. Iâm sorry for worrying you.â
Kirishima shook his head with a toothy smile. âNonsense! You have nothing to apologize for! But seriously⌠I thought you are Bakugo were dating and just hiding it from everyone.â
âWell, I canât lie⌠I thought Kacchan felt the same way. Guess I was naive and too blind to notice the truth,â chuckled Midoriya bitterly.
âIf you ever need a shoulder to cry on, Iâm here for you. I actually wanted to ask you to go to a hero convention with me. I bought two tickets, but Kaminari ditched me at the last minute,â wined Kirishima, throwing his head back dramatically.
Midoriya clapped his hands together, excited that hero conventions were still happening. He hadnât had the time to think about silly things like that in a while. âIâd love to go with you!â
Kirishima perked up, beyond relieved. âReally? Great! Iâll text you the details later. Anyways, where are you going?â
âOhâ crap! I am going to have a talk with All Might! Sorry! I really must go! Heâs probably waiting on me!â rambled Midoriya, backing away quickly to the doorway.
âItâs alright man! See you later!â
Midoriya threw on his shoes and ran out. Most of the class had heard the part that Midoriya was going to talk with All Might. His panic was loud enough for everyone to eavesdrop. Looking out the window, they watched as Midoriya approached All Might who was standing by the bottom of the stairs.
Toshinori naturally opened his arms and Midoriya quickly rushed into the embrace. After a quick, but tight hug, Toshinori appeared to ask Midoriya a question. Whatever Midoriya said stunned Toshinori, but Toshinori didnât appear to be completely surprised by whatever was said.
âSo, what did you want to talk about, Young Midoriya?â
âI think I want to move away from here,â confessed Midoriya, a bit worried about Toshinoriâs response.
Toshinori took a moment to compose himself and respond, but he smiled. âThatâs understandable. May I ask why?â
âI donât think I want to become a hero just to be a sidekick. That may make me a selfish person, but I donât think I can mentally handle being so close yet so far from my dream,â explained Midoriya, beginning to walk.
âThat doesnât make you selfish. I understand why youâd rather just scrap it all than be a sidekick. What would you rather do than be a hero? Have you thought of that?â questioned Toshinori, wanting to make sure Midoriya had mapped out his plan thoughtfully.
Midoriya nodded, looking up at the sky. âYes⌠I was thinking about going to the US and becoming a support item developer with Melissa Shield. Since we are both quirkless and interested in heroes, it would be cool to work together.â
Toshinori perked up at that. He was very fond of Melissa despite the betrayal of her father, David Shield, who had been his sidekick. âThatâs a great idea. Iâm sure youâd easily be able to transfer to a school in the States. Iâd even accompany you since Iâm familiar with California.â
âReally? You donât think Iâd be making a mistake?â questioned Midoriya, feeling a bit uneasy.
âIf leaving Japan for a couple of years would make you happier and allow you to try something new that would bring joy to your life, I donât think youâd be making a mistake,â rationalized Toshinori, providing Midoriya with a new outlook on leaving UA High.
Midoriya smiled, feeling a bit relieved. âYeah. I think Iâll finish this school year and transfer over for my third year.â
Toshinori grinned, holding a thumbs up. âYou could even do a student exchange program. You could remain a hero student and try out different things.â
âYeah⌠Iâll talk to Aizawa and Nezu about it. I think leaving for a bit would be for the best. I was already on the fence, but today pushed me over the edge,â sighed Midoriya, looking down at his scarred hands.
âWhat happened?â questioned Toshinori worriedly.
Midoriyaâs face glowed a bright red as he realized heâd never really talked about his love life before. âWell, itâs a bit embarrassing to say out loud but, I like Kacchan⌠romantically.â
âAh, I figured something more was going on between you too,â chuckled Toshinori, happy to hear Midoriya wasnât afraid to love.
âKacchan⌠is dating Todoroki,â whispered Midoriya, feeling his throat tighten from having to say it out loud. The wound was still too fresh.
Toshinori stopped walking, feeling his heart break as he watched Midoriya crumble before him. âOh, my boy, Iâm so sorry.â
Midoriya didnât fight it when Toshinori wrapped him up in his arms and gently rubbed his back. Midoriya rather melted into the touch as he began to cry again. âI feel so stupid.â
âYouâre not stupid, you're far from it,â argued Toshinori, refusing to let Midoriya talk badly about himself.
âI should have confessed when I had the chance. I should have noticed that Kacchan had his eyes on someone else. I was just delusional,â cried Midoriya, tightly squeezing Toshinoriâs shirt.
Toshinori frowned as Midoriya cried into his chest. He hated to see Midoriya cry. Watching your kid experience his first heartbreak was devastating. There was nothing you could do to help.
Toshinori took a deep breath before pulling back. âI may not know what itâs like to fall in love with my best friend and they fall in love with another. But I do know what itâs like to never confess and regret it later. As the number one hero, I was never able to keep a long-term relationship. Whether it was out of my control, or I was scared.â
âReally?â
âReally. So never feel bad for not confessing but take it as a lesson. Many people experience what you are going through. Take this moment and never hesitate when it comes to love,â encouraged Toshinori, offering Midoriya a heroic smile as he wiped away Midoriyaâs tears.
The rest of their walk was peaceful. The sun was shining brightly, and the air was warm. Midoriya cherished moments like these. The war seemed like a faint memory when the world was so beautiful, and he was spending his time beside the man he grew up admiring.
Uraraka and Midoriya agreed to meet after dinner to talk. It just so happened that Todoroki and Bakugo chose that time to approach Midoriya to check up on him.
âIâm really worried about Midoriya,â sighed Todoroki, wishing the elevator would move faster despite Midoriyaâs dorm only being on the second floor.
âIâm sure Izukuâs fine. We are probably being paranoid,â guessed Bakugo, going against his better judgment.
By the time they reached Midoriyaâs floor, they could faintly hear him talking. The couple paused, carefully inching closer to Midoriyaâs dorm room door. They could hear Uraraka's voice as well.
Todoroki and Bakugo exchanged a wary glance. They thought Uraraka and Midoriya had already talked today. They were curious when Uraraka and Midoriya got close again considering the two had distanced themselves after the war.
âSee, I told you heâd be the best person for you to talk to!â gloated Uraraka for being right.
âYeah, he was supportive of my plans and ideas,â noted Midoriya, his voice upbeat.
The shifting of sheets could be heard from inside the room before Uraraka asked, âWhat is your plan? I donât think you ever told me exactly what your ideas were.â
Todoroki and Bakugo were equally lost. Midoriya hadn't mentioned plans or ideas recently. The last serious conversation Midoriya had with either of them was about how his training was going. Even then, he didnât have much to say.
Neither Todoroki nor Bakugo realized how little they knew about Midoriya anymore.
Midoriya was quick to respond to Uraraka. âI was planning on moving to the United States. Specifically, California to work with Melissa Shield. Since we are both quirkless, it would be nice to work with her.â
Bakugo felt his heart momentarily stop, horrified to hear Midoriya wanted to leave. After the last time Midoriya left UA, heâd never heard Midoriya entertain the thought of leaving again. It would be an understatement to say Bakugo didnât want Midoriya to leave. He dreaded the mere thought of not seeing Midoriya each day. He couldnât imagine not being able to see Midoriya smile and hear him say Kacchan.
Todoroki felt sick, unable to imagine not having Midoriya at armâs reach. After having Midoriya there at every stage of his life, he didnât want to lose someone so important. Still, Midoriya has been nothing but supportive to him, so he wanted to return the same support.
âThatâs actually a really good idea! Are you planning on continuing your hero education or are you going to change your goal?â questioned Uraraka with excitement in her voice.
âAll Might said he'd set me up with a foreign exchange student program if I wanted. That way I could get the best of both worlds. Still, I think I may just go into support gear with Melissa,â answered Midoriya, still leaning more toward giving up on being a hero.
It was quiet for a bit. Todoroki and Bakugo remained frozen in place, waiting for Midoriya and Uraraka to finish their conversation before fully panicking.
âYou sure you donât want to be my sidekick? Weâd be one hell of a team,â teased Uraraka, even though there was a trace of sorrow in her voice.
âNo⌠I wouldnât even want to be Kacchan's sidekick,â opposed Midoriya quickly.
âDamn. Is that just because you donât want to be a sidekick that bad or is it because of your unreciprocated feelings?â interrogated Uraraka, struggling to make light of the entire situation.
Bakugo felt his entire world stop. Izuku Midoriya had a crush on him. Midoriya, his childhood friend, loved him. Deku, the boy he fought next to during a war, wanted to be with him. Midoriya liked him the entire time.
Todoroki on the other hand felt incredible guilt. While it wasnât his fault and Bakugo had been the one to ask him out, he couldnât help but feel like he stole Bakugo from Midoriya. He couldnât help but feel like he was inconsiderate of Midoriyaâs feelings. If he had known Midoriya liked Bakugo, he would have never accepted the confession.
âA mixture of both. It may sound stupid but after the war⌠I fought with my mother so hard to let me stay here. At that point in time, you all were ignoring me. Kacchan was all I had, and I didnât even know how to talk to him⌠but I stayed because of him. Now that heâs with Todoroki, I donât have anything to stay for. They have each other now,â lamented Midoriya, feeling a bit empty now that he was saying it out loud.
âItâs not stupid. It makes a lot of sense. Besides, an upside to you going to the United States for a bit is youâll have the opportunity to move on,â offered Uraraka, feeling bad for Midoriya.
Midoriya seemed a bit happy as he announced, âAll Might said heâd even go with me! Wouldnât that be amazing?â
Uraraka gasped, clapping her hands. âThat would be perfect! I think having him around would be good for you. Since youâll be experiencing a lot of changes by moving.â
âIâm a bit nervous to move because of that. Making new friends while learning a new language and picking up a new career goal is a lot,â sighed Midoriya loudly.
âYouâll have no problem making friends!â refuted Uraraka, offended Midoriya was nervous about having to make new friends.
Midoriya was quiet in response. Bakugo and Todoroki shared a concerned glance. Uraraka's voice greeted them first. âDeku? Whatâs wrong?â
âWhat if they think Iâm worthless or ugly? Iâm covered head to toe in scars, my hair is uneven, Iâm quirkless, Iâll be the UA High dropout,â listed Midoriya, not bothering to downplay his concerns.
âListen to me very carefully. I said this earlier, but I think you need the reminder. You became the greatest hero to ever exist. Those scars are reminders of the blood, sweat, and tears you sacrificed for the safety of others. Your hair will finish growing out by the time fall comes around.â
Midoriya opened his mouth only for Uraraka to shush him violently. âSilence! You wonât be known as a UA dropout. You fought in a war that many pro heroes didnât survive. Everyone will be super excited to be in a class with you! Besides, who cares if youâre quirkless? You could probably lift this entire building with your pinky.â
Midoriya couldnât help but laugh at that last comment. âI guess youâre right. Still, I just donât think Iâll ever be the same. I donât want to give up on being a hero, but the world is unfair.â
âWhy donât you take up Toshinoriâs offer? Be a foreign exchange student in the hero program. Work with Melissa and have her develop support gear for you. You can still be a powerful hero! You still have all your combat knowledge under your belt,â suggested Uraraka, trying to motivate Midoriya to not give up on his dreams.
âIâll talk to Aizawa about it. Iâm not even sure if Iâll end up moving to America. I just think Iâd be a lot happier if I got away from this place,â admitted Midoriya.
Bakugo and Todoroki rose to their feet and tried to gather their thoughts. Todoroki whispered to Bakugo. âWhat if we pretend to get off the elevator? That way he wonât know we overheard.â
âYeah, letâs go,â agreed Bakugo, sneaking into the elevator before closing and opening the door.
The duo was talking at a normal volume and immediately noticed Uraraka and Midoriya stopped talking.
Bakugo knocked on the door, trying to remain calm. âIzuku? Itâs me and Todoroki. Can we come in?â
âYeah, Uraraka is here too,â answered Midoriya calmly.
Bakugo opened the door and walked in. Todoroki followed close behind, stopping to slowly close the door. The first thing both noticed was that Midoriyaâs room lacked its usual amount of All Might merchandise.
Bakugo nodded at Uraraka before confronting Midoriya. âWhatâs going on Izuku? Youâve been off today.â
âItâs just been a weird day,â answered Midoriya shortly, not even sure how to speak to Bakugo anymore.
Todoroki frowned, sitting in Midoriyaâs desk chair. âAre you sure thatâs it? You seemed off this morning and even seemed a bit off when talking to Kirishima.â
Uraraka turned to Midoriya, curious. âYou talked to Kirishima earlier?â
âYeah, Kirishima approached me earlier. He just invited me to a hero convention. I was super excited and agreed to go, but I guess I just started thinking about how different everything is now and how I havenât had time to go to one,â rambled Midoriya, quickly coming up with an excuse.
Todoroki nodded, knowing that wasnât the truth, but took it. âOh, that makes sense.â
Bakugo narrowed his eyes, wanting Midoriya to be honest. âWhat about this morning? You were acting strange. Pink Cheeks here dragged you off.â
âIt was a rough morning, thatâs all. Iâm fine,â dismissed Midoriya, not planning on telling Bakugo or Todoroki anything.
âOkay, as long as youâre okay. I was worried,â replied Todoroki, not wanting Midoriya to withdraw any further.
The rest of the talk was bland and awkward. Midoriya, Todoroki, and Bakugo were aware of how broken their friendship was, but there was no easy way of mending it. The war changed each of them so much and they never took the time to talk about everything that happened. They seemed to dodge the touchy subjects and handle them on their own.
Bakugo had to deal with the trauma of dying on the battlefield and the effort it took to rehabilitate his arm and strengthen his heart while also being careful. Todoroki was busy dealing with mending his broken family and the physical recovery of each person. Toya was the worst and Enji was in close second. Still, Todoroki didnât have any desire to open up about what was going on or how he was feeling about the situation.
Midoriya was dealing with something else entirely. Midoriya was still trying to recover from the events that occurred early in the year. The large number of near-death encounters he had provided his nightmares with unlimited fuel. The backlash from countless civilians in the fallout of the first war made him scared to show his face in public. Seeing all his friends and idols injured and fatally wounded on the battleground was horrifying and those moments would forever be imprinted in his mind. Those were just some of the things Midoriya had to deal with. He also had things like losing both of his arms, feeling like he failed to save Tenko, missing the past users of One for All, and being quirkless again.
There was so much Midoriya held inside and struggled to cope with. Midoriya knew his friends needed just as much help as he did, but he never truly bounced back after initially feeling ignored. It was very similar to the isolation he felt when he was young and quirkless.
Bakugo and Todoroki never reached out and Midoriya was too depressed to put energy into maintaining relationships. Now Bakugo and Todoroki were happily dating and finally seeing just how badly they failed Midoriya.
Midoriya completed his second year at U.A. High before quickly leaving for America. Toshinori and Inko followed closely behind, ready to give Izuku the future he deserved. Class 2-A, now 3-A missed Midoriya's presence, realizing too late just how much he needed their attention and support. They had to watch Midoriya mentally and physically recover through news articles, reports, and social media posts.
Todoroki, Bakugo, and Uraraka never told anyone the reason why Midoriya left Japan and U.A. High. Even though Todoroki and Bakugo broke up shortly after five months of being together, theyâd forever remember they were the final nudge Midoriya needed to leave.
For kids, turning four was the year that would make or break them. In a hero-based society, quirks dictated worth.
Izukuâs life was considered over the moment he was confirmed to be quirkless. After losing everyone who cared for him and being bullied by those he was close with for everything he said or did, Izuku shut down.
Izuku developed symptoms of a severe social phobia at the ripe age of six. Inko was shattered, watching as her brilliant and bright child faded away. Not only did she start getting reports from the school that Izuku wasnât speaking at all, he no longer talked with her.
Midoriya pointed and shook his head to speak. With the silence, Izuku started to cry a lot more. Despite all of that, Izuku did technically speak every day. It was only one phrase. Inko could barely hear it with Izuku's face buried in her shoulder.
âI love you, Mom.â
Izuku never left the house and strayed far away from the playground after he returned home with bruises one eventful day. Inko didnât want him to leave anyways. Inko felt better knowing he was safe at home. Even after Izuku went completely mute at six, he still had aspirations to become a hero. He continued his hobby of writing in his notebooks and buying All Might merchandise.
Izuku's shut-in habits carried on for the rest of elementary all the way through middle school. Izuku had no friends and he didnât bother trying to pursue having a social life. Having no distractions allowed him to focus on school. He had the highest score in his class for a reason. He often tied with Katsuki for first place in terms of intelligence. Katsuki didnât like that.
Even if Izuku admired Katsuki from afar, he never let his biggest bully notice. Izuku avoided Katsuki to the best of his ability. Even if Izuku made effort to stay away, Katsuki chased. He'd never admit it, but he stalked Izuku.
Katsuki hadn't planned on spying on Izuku in the beginning. He assumed Izuku was ignoring him to act higher than him. Then it turned into spying. It was a shock to Katsuki after following Izuku, to find seeing that he refused to speak to anyone. If necessary, heâd use sign language to convey a message or write it down.
Once it became clear to Katsuki that Izuku was mute and not ignoring him, the situation shifted a bit. Suddenly he waited for the moment when he'd hear Midoriya's voice again. He wanted to know if it deepened or if it was still high-pitched and girly. Soon it sank in that he'd most likely never hear Midoriya's voice again.
In most of their classes, when you were called on, you answered the question on the board. You didnât have to really say it out loud unless it was necessary for the subject matter. Izuku was able to get through school with close to no problems. He endured the bullying and pushed forward.
Inko had done her best to help. She tried everything in the book: speech therapy and child psychologists, and she sought out a pediatrician. Not much could be done. She tried all the tricks they offered her: shaping, self-modeling, and the list goes on.
It became clear the trigger of it was bullying and the traumatizing experience he endured at the ripe age of four. His dreams were shattered and everyone turned their back on him at a time when he needed support the most.
Izuku did see a therapist to open up about his bullying, but still only ever used sign language. When Izuku was being confronted by his bullies (classmates and teachers) he never once spoke. He had no desire to be a part of the world that surrounded him. He enjoyed submerging himself in the quiet.
Despite the odds, Izuku managed to save Katsuki from the sludge villain and impress Toshinori. Izuku had spoken to Toshinori, feeling safe and excited enough to use his words. Just like that, Izuku was on his way to obtaining the most power quirk to currently exist.
Izuku built a really strong bond with Toshinori, discussing his life and how he was selectively mute. Toshinori was grateful Izuku opened up about his life. While Izuku dedicated ten months to training from U.A. Toshinori dedicated ten months to learning sign language. While he didnât have to use it to speak to Izuku, he wanted to make it easy for Izuku to talk to him.
Izuku probably had no one in his life that he could easily talk to by using sign. Izuku most likely had to write everything out for people to understand. It wasnât ideal when he was Izukuâs mentor.
Izuku makes it into U.A. High and kept to himself. On the first day Uraraka thanked Midoriya for saving her. Iida greeted Izuku, beyond impressed with Izukuâs bravery. Izuku made it known he was mute, but he could hear. While it didnât make them hate him, it kinda created a barrier in terms of communication. Everyone was beyond nice, but Izuku didnât really click with anyone.
Being the current wielder of One for All, Izuku took control of how to handle his quirk development. As a result, Izuku was more open with Aizawa. He explained that he didnât have a lot of experience with his quirk. His body had to become strong enough to withstand the tole his quirk would have on him. Aizawa recognized that Izuku had spent his time preparing for his quirk since he couldnât train something he legitimately couldnât use.
Aizawa was the second person to earn Izukuâs trust. Izuku still didnât say more than a few words and he didn't speak to Aizawa if others were present. No other teachers or students had heard Midoriyaâs voice.
Kirishima and Todoroki were the first two to hear Midoriyaâs voice out of the class. Katsuki was also there, but it was the first time heâd heard Izuku speak since he was six.
It was during the USJ attack. Izuku leaped into action to save Toshinori.
âYou stupid villain!â
If it hadnât been in the heat of the moment, the three wouldâve been more surprised by him speaking rather than the fact Izuku was about to die. Katsuki was undeniably unnerved. He was so used to the idea of Izukuâs voice still being exactly how it was nine years ago. It really got to him when Izukuâs voice was significantly deeper and he sounded so angry you could hear the words ripping through his vocal cords.
Then the sports festival came around, it went smoothly at the start. Izuku won the first event, had a great group during the second event, and was now in the final event. Izuku was against Shinso first. Ojiro was very aware Izuku was mute, but he was now aware Izuku could speak if he chose to. After filling in Izuku about Shinsoâs ability to brainwash a person once they speak, Izuku thanked Ojiro. It meant a lot to him for Ojiro to seek Midoriya out to help him.
When the round started, Shinso went on a tangent. Izuku listened but ignored the anger that brewed in his gut. Shinso may have been saying those things simply to provoke Izuku, but it was extremely disrespectful for his life story to be assumed by someone he never met before.
Izuku had to fight quirkless considering he could really hurt Shinso if he used his quirk. He couldn't control his output so there was a slim chance he could kill Shinso. So they duked it out. It didnât take too long for Izuku to knock Shinso out of bounds.
When going against Todoroki, Izuku knew what he was dealing with. Todoroki had told Izuku about his reasons for not using his second quirk: fire.
Midoriya understood what Todoroki was feeling. The effects of how he was treated by being quirkless resulted in a long list of problems. Izuku couldnât begin to imagine the effects abuse had on him, not to mention the dysfunctional family not providing any help.
Izuku saw past all of that and knew Todoroki needed help. While he wasnât going to throw away the competition, he wasnât going to let Todoroki struggle either.
Izuku found himself yelling at Todoroki. Izuku wanted to test the waters, but ultimately just had to push Todorokiâs buttons. Despite the pain both Todoroki and Izuku were enduring from their battle. This match was a lot more than just winning the sports festival.
Then came workplace internships to gain experience. Hosu was under attack and the Stain incident occurred. Izuku managed to become a âtrue heroâ alongside All Might. It was impressive considering Izuku is the second person Stain has claimed to be a true hero. The situation brought Izuku, Todoroki, and Iida closer together.
When final exams rolled around, working with Katsuki to go against Toshinori was a strange situation. Katsuki was still beyond temperamental. Everyone knew the two didnât along and Katsuki was still hostile towards Izuku. The fight was brutal and the two teens had their air knocked out of their lungs more times than they could count.
Izuku still had yet to speak directly to Katsuki. Katsuki overheard Izuku talking, but Izuku still hadnât spoken to Katsuki. Imagine his surprise when he is punched in his puke-covered face by Izuku to hear his yelling.
âDonât you dare say youâd rather lose!â
The final exams ended and summer arrived. Summer would've gone great yet their "summer vacation: went horribly wrong. The league of villains decided to ambush the teens.
Izuku hadn't spoken the entire trip until he was alone with Kota. He hated seeing Kota give up on the world just like he did. After all the child was only five. In hopes to change Kotaâs fate, he spoke up.
âIf you reject it that harshly, the only person getting hurt is yourself,â explained Izuku, patient with the kid who had an explosive personality like Katsuki.
While Kota didnât react well to Izukuâs advice, he was enraptured by Izukuâs voice. When he kicked Midoriya in the balls, Mandalay shunned him but also revealed Midoriya was mute.
Muscular appears and he is out for blood. Muscular tried to kill Kota and Izuku was not going to let it happen. In a fit of panic and rage, Izuku screamed out. Seeing Kota use his quirk in desperation ignited a fire in him.
âAs if⌠Iâd let you kill him!â
Not even moments later, Katsuki was kidnapped and in the midst of despair, Izuku couldnât stop the scream that echoed through the forest. That also didnât stop his scream that conjoined with the crowds in the final battle between All Might and All for One. It seemed as if the world was coming back together just to fall apart again.
During the provisional hero license exam, Izuku once again had to scream. It was targeted at Todoroki and Yoarashi for almost getting Shindo killed.
âDammit! What are you two doing!â
Izukuâs blunt choice of words helped the two get their asses back into order and focus on the mission at hand. Soon enough the provisional hero license exam ended and the results were in.
While Todoroki and Katsuki were away for their required remedial course, Izuku would face his biggest battle yet. Alongside the big three, a handful of his classmates, and some pro heroes, Izuku was to rescue a wonderful girl name Eri and help defeat the villain Overhaul.
Izuku was a lot more vocal in this fight for Eriâs sake. Despite his mind holding him back at the thought of others hearing, he shut it down and kept his focus on Eri. Nothing matter except saving Eri. Calling out to Eri was the most freeing and horribly exhilarating thing.
After recovery and returning back to school, it was time to prepare for the school festival. For a bit, things were perfect. Izuku could fall back into the shadows and relax. He didnât have to speak and could enjoy time with Mirio and Eri.
Eri was amazed that Izuku was selectively mute. That meant she was super special for Izuku to have spoken to her. Izuku was fond of her reaction, flashing her a bright smile.
One weekend class 1-A wanted to go to the mall. Aizawa decided it was also the perfect time to show Eri the outside world. Eri stuck with Izuku, missing him from not seeing him much after the school festival.
Todoroki and Katsuki for some odd reason were the two that wandered around Izuku. You could blame their curiosity on Eri. She was stuck on his hip yet they had no idea how she knew Izuku. The mission Izuku was a part of was confidential.
Things never went smoothly with class 1-A. Aizawa had taken Eri for a bit while Izuku went to the bathroom. Despite his keen eye, Aizawa lost Eri. Izuku knew something fishy was happening. The last time he was in the mall, he was attacked by Shigaraki.
Half of the class stayed inside the mall while the other half was to observe the outside in case she wandered off far. Izuku, Todoroki, and Katsuki are stationed outside. Izuku was on the top floor of the mall, running around on the catwalk.
Izuku has no clue where to look or what to do. The panic settled in and people were everywhere. While everything in his head is screaming at him to return to the quiet and retreat, Izuku talked a deep breath and calls out into the world.
âEri-chan!â
Izuku was turning around in circles, his mind reeling at the fact she could be anywhere. Todoroki and Katsuki heard Izuku call out and started head over. While they were trying to get to Izuku, Izuku spotted something out of the ordinary.
A car was approaching. Whoever was at the wheel drove sporadically. Taking a look at the diver, he immediately recognized the man as a villain. Seeing no one was in the car, Izuku went to work.
Stepping onto the railing, Izuku jumped off and down a level. Izuku ran forward, launching himself down the building. Once reaching the ground, Izuku landed right before the speeding car. Katsuki was blasting his way over, screaming for Izuku to get out of the way. From his view, the driver was now trying to swerve out of the way, but they werenât going to make it.
Todoroki was sending out ice, trying to build an ice barrier between Izuku and the car. Despite their worries, Izuku had it under control. Izuku turned away from the car, drew back his leg, and t-boned the car with a single kick.
Katsuki and Todoroki stilled, seeing Izuku demolish the car with ease. When the two caught up to Izuku, they soon realized this was going to be the getaway driver. Moments later Aizawa alerts everyone Eri was found and the villain was arrested. Todoroki informs Aizawa about what happened and another police officer was sent their way.
Izuku and Eri were reunited. Eri jumped into Izukuâs arms and Izuku rested her on his hip. When the police came for a statement, Izuku grabbed a pen and wrote it down. He was not in the mood to talk.
Todoroki had no problem with Izukuâs silence and sighed to himself. âI thought you were going to die back there.â
âYeah! What the hell was that nerd! Trying to get yourself killed?â shouted Katsuki.
Izuku smirked at the two before shrugging and walking away with Eri. While Katsuki was left standing there with a pissed frown, Todoroki mindlessly followed after his friend with a smile.
Silence was a bitch.
The end!
Life purpose fulfilled.
