This most likely is because he is American-Japanese. There is a spinoff series called Haikyuu-buu which isn't written by Furudate but shows side stories. I think it was published in Jump at least the digital one. There are a few times Aran is shown and it's implied he's American. One of the Miya twins relates an American stereotype with his family and Aran gets angry about it. Also he is shown to own American flag underwear later.

Originally I wanted to do it from the perspective of my Haikyuu OC but then reading the captions I realized that it's too nice for the way I wrote her so just take it like it's a classmate, your character or someone else writing it.
