I'm so very proud of this part.

Part 6.

Wednesday stopped at the door of her and Enid's room, staring at the brunette girl laying on her bed. Esmeria was staring at the ceiling, humming a tune under her breath.

Upon spotting Wednesday, Esmeria shot up from the bed, promptly falling to the floor and scrambling to the window in the middle of the room, blushing brightly. "Uh- Wednesday! Hi, sorry, please don't kill me. I just- I- I have no explanation for that. Sorry."

Wednesday paused, her brain fumbling for words. Strange. That didn't happen often. "I- It's okay. I was just going to play some cello, get my mind off some things."

Esmeria's eyes brightened. "Can I come? I haven't played my guitar in a while."

A very faint pink spread across Wednesday's cheeks and she nodded. Esmeria gave Wednesday a grin, then vanished into the shadows on the wall. When she reappeared with a dark purple guitar and a large black amp, Wednesday had just finished lugging her cello out of the window to the balcony, with the help of Thing.

Esmeria smiled upon seeing the hand scuttle across the floor towards her. "Hey Thing!"

Thing waved at her, running back outside to Wednesday. Esmeria followed, pulling her things behind her and out the window. "I'm back Wednesday!"

The ebony-haired girl looked to the brunette, raising an eyebrow and pointing one long, slender finger towards the amp. "Don't you need a power outlet for that?"

Esmeria glanced to Wednesday, then went back to plugging the guitar into the amp. "Nah, it's been specially made so I don't. My cousins Apollo and Hephaestus made it for my 13th birthday."

Wednesday nodded, unsurprised by the information. The girls adjusted their instruments and Esmeria looked to Wednesday for instruction. Wednesday readied her bow and began playing a song that Esmeria knew well, one of the first she had ever learned.

Paint It, Black by The Rolling Stones.

Esmeria plucked away at the chords, getting lost in the music. Wednesday sped up, playing almost frantically, Esmeria keeping up with her the whole time. The song drew to a close, Esmeria smiling as the last notes rang out across the darkening sky. There was a metallic tapping sound and Esmeria looked over to see Thing and Wednesday talking. "No, I don't really feel better. There's something wrong about this place."

Esmeria laughed. "I thought the fact that it's a school would be enough to make everything feel off."

There was a clicking sound and the circular window swung open to reveal Enid. "How the hell did you get that oversized violin out the window?"

Wednesday stood up. "I had an extra hand."

Enid shuddered as Thing revealed himself and waved at her. "Woah. Where's the rest of him?"

Wednesday shrugged lightly. "It's one of the great Addams family mysteries." The howling that occupied the background grew louder. "Why aren't you wolfing out?"

Esmeria looked at Enid in sadness as the taller girl spoke. "Because I can't." She held up her hand and flicked out her claws, withdrawing them as she moved to the balcony railing. "That's all I got. My mom says some wolves are late bloomers, but I've been to the best Lycanologist. I had to fly to Milwaukee, would you believe it? Yeah, she says there's a chance I may never... you know."

Esmeria moved up next to her, placing an arm around her shoulder as Wednesday walked over, also leaning against the railing. "What happens then?"

Esmeria sighed, her arm tightening around Enids shoulder. "She becomes a lone wolf."

Wednesday tilted her head to the ground, a look of contemplation on her face. "Sounds perfect."

Enids eyes widened. "Are you kidding me? My life would be officially over. I'd be kicked out of my family pack with no prospect of finding a mate."

Wednesday's head tilted to the other side. "I'm failing to see the problem here."

Enid scoffed. "I could die alone!"

"We all die alone Enid." Wednesday deadpanned.

Esmeria shook her head. "Not if I have anything to say about it."

Confusion filled Wednesday's face as Enid sighed, placing her head in her hands. "You really suck at this." She turned to Wednesday and spoke again, her voice shaky, tears in her eyes. "Cheering people up?"

Wednesday shifted, looking uncomfortable. "Why are you crying?"

"Because I'm upset!" Esmeria jumped slightly at the outburst, moving her arm off Enid's shoulder before the werewolf got mad and tried to eat the young god's arm. Enid wrapped her arms around herself and gave Wednesday a side-eye. "Haven't you ever cried? Or are you above that too?"

Wednesday moved closer to the railing and looked down. "It was the week after Halloween. I was six years old. I took my pet scorpion, Nero, out for his afternoon stroll, and we were ambushed. They wondered what kind of freak would have a scorpion for a pet. Two of them held me down and made me watch, while the others ran Nero over until..." She paused. "It was snowing when I buried what was left of him. I cried my little black heart out. But tears don't fix anything. So I vowed to never do it again."

Esmeria was filled with rage. The thought of Wednesday being upset filled her with more anger than she had ever felt before and it made her want to scream. Enid seemed to realize something and turned to look at Esmeria. "I just realized something. Do you cry? I've never seen you cry."

"Yeah, I cry. Just because I'm a god doesn't mean I don't cry."

Enid narrowed her eyes. "When was the last time you cried in front of a living being?"

Wednesday nodded, happy that 'The Mystery Of Esmeria Roman' was untangling once more. Esmeria sighed. "I was four. I was with my uncle and aunt, Percy and Annabeth Jackson, when we got the news that my Uncle Jason had been killed. They took me home, and I cried for the rest of the day. When my father found me, he gave a lecture on how Jason was 'just another soul' and that I 'shouldn't be crying' because people die every day. So I made the logical decision that if I couldn't cry about death without being scolded, I shouldn't cry about anything at all in front of people ever again."

Esmeria could feel the tears already collecting in her eyes and quickly stood up. "I should go. See you guys later."

Enid nodded, dazed at the story. Esmeria swung her legs over the edge of the railing and slipped into the shadows beneath.

Part 5.

Esmeria wasn't meant to be at the Weathervane Cafe. But she was bored, so anything Principal Weems said had zero effect on her brain. She sat in a little booth with her hot chocolate, one away from the door, in her attempt to people-watch.

It was getting boring, but then she saw something in the corner of her eye. Wednesday Addams sliding down the water pipe outside Dr Kinbott's office. She glanced at the car containing Larissa Weems, and quickly walked across the road. Esmeria watched Wednesday bump into a man carrying a crate full of apples.

The apples fell everywhere, and Wednesday's head flew back so fast it was almost at a right angle. The man started collecting the apples and Wednesday's head snapped back forward. Esmeria could see the man say something to Wednesday, who stared at the man for a second before rushing towards the Weathervane.

Esmeria moved over to her friend Tyler, who was fixing the coffee machine. "Still working on that?"

He sighed. "It really doesn't wanna work with me today."

She laughed, moving behind the counter, still clutching her cup. The machine suddenly let out a large gust of steam, making Esmeria jump. Tyler jumped as well, but it was at the fact that Wednesday had appeared in front of him. "Holy crap! Do you make a habit of scaring the hell out of people?"

"It's more of a hobby."

Esmeria looked up and smiled. "Hey Wednesday!"

Wednesday nodded in acknowledgement. "Hello Esmè."

Esmeria tried not to blush at the nickname as the other two began speaking again.

Tyler raised an eyebrow. "You go to Nevermore. Didn't realize they changed the uniform."

Esmeria shook her head. "They didn't."

Tyler glanced between the two girls in confusion as Wednesday spoke. "I need a quad over ice. It's an emergency."

She sighed as Tyler opened his mouth. "It's four shots of espresso."

He blinked. "Yeah, I-I know what a quad is, but, spoiler alert, the machine's having a seizure, so all we have is drip."

Wednesday tilted her head, confused. "But drip is for people who hate themselves and know their lives have no real purpose or meaning."

The three teens glanced over at a man who had been pouring himself a cup until, upon hearing Wednesday's statement, looked down sadly and walked away. Esmeria chuckled. "Well, I don't work here, so I'm gonna go sit back down."

She walked out from behind the counter, smiling at Wednesday as she did so. She sat back down at her previous booth, opening Twitter.

Esmeria looked up from her phone to see Wednesday sitting down across from her. "What'd Tyler want?"

Wednesday looked down and back up. "I need a ride to the train station so I can get out of here. Tyler's willing to drive me, but not until his shift is over."

Esmeria opened her mouth in an 'o' shape, remembering that Wednesday had said something about 'escaping' a few times. "Can I come with you? Just until the station. If I went with you, my parents would probably find me anyway."

Wednesday thought for a second and nodded. "Ok."

Esmeria smiled and looked back at her phone, trying to get Enid canceled on Twitter. She came out of her trance upon hearing voices that she really didn't want to hear.

"What're two Nevermore freaks doing out in the wild?"

"This is our booth."

Esmeria rolled her eyes. "I don't see your names on it."

Wednesday almost smiled at Esmeria's comment, until something else registered in her mind. She looked the boys up and down. "Why are you dressed like religious fanatics?"

"We're pilgrims."

Wednesday tilted her head. "Potato, po-tah-to."

One of the boys stepped forward, sliding a flyer across the table to Wednesday. "We work at Pilgrim World."

Wednesday glanced at the flyer for a few seconds, then looked back up. "It takes a special kind of stupid to devote an entire theme park to zealots responsible for mass genocide."

Lucas -the leader of the posse- scowled. "My dad owns Pilgrim World. Who're you calling stupid."

Esmeria groaned. "No one even cares, Lucas! Literally just shut up, and leave us alone."

Lucas's scowl deepened as Tyler walked over and started speaking. "Guys, back off."

Lucas turned to Tyler. "Stay out of this, Galpin."

Wednesday stood up. "Yes, stay out of this."

Lucas moved closer to Wednesday. "So tell me, freak, you ever been with a normie?"

Esmeria's eyes blazed with anger and she immediately moved to get up, stopping only when Wednesday looked at her with an 'I can do this' look on her face. Esmeria sighed resentfully, sitting back down. Wednesday looked at her for a second more before responding to Lucas. "I've never found one that could handle me."

There was a pause. Then Wednesday leaned towards the boys. "Boo."

"Hey!" Lucas called angrily, lunging at Wednesday. She took them all down easily, except for one, who moved to Esmeria as she sipped her hot chocolate. Mid-sip, Esmeria held her hand out, palm facing the boy. He stood still in confusion for a second until a Venus Flytrap shot out from the middle of her hand. It's mouth snapped shut in front of his face, teeth scraping some skin off his nose.

He fell backwards, crying like a baby. Esmeria laughed as Tyler turned to Wednesday. "So, where'd you learn those kung fu moves?"

Wednesday looked at Tyler. "My uncle taught me. He spent five years in a Tibetan Monastery."

Tyler raised an eyebrow. "Was he a monk?"

Wednesday slightly shook her head. "Prisoner."

Esmeria walked forward to join them until she saw the sheriff walking towards the shop. Her eyes widened and she turned to the other teens. "I have to go! Remember-"

Tyler cut her off. "-Reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram, buy gold?"

Esmeria nodded and rushed under a table, melting into the shadows.

Hey guys! Here's the next part. Hope you like it! (When they say 'Oh my dad', it does mean 'Oh my god')

Word Count: 1057

Part 4.

Esmeria sat with her back to the window of Enid and Wednesday's room, playing with the sleeves of her grey jumper. She was bored, and wanted something to distract her. That something came in the form of Wednesday Addams walking into the room, pausing at the sight of the brunette on the floor. "Why are you in here?"

Esmeria stood up. "Oh! I didn't like being alone in my room. I can leave if you-"

"No." Wednesday shook her head, hiding her own surprise at the sound of her voice. "It's okay. But be quiet, this is my writing time."

Esmeria smiled and sat back down as Wednesday placed a record on the gramophone and sat down. La Llorona played as the clicking of Wednesday's typewriter filled the air. Esmeria was scrolling through Twitter.

Suddenly, Wednesday's bed squeaked. Both girls looked up from their respective activities, Wednesday being the first to notice a lump crawling underneath the covers. She lunged over, flipping the covers back to reveal a hand running across the bed, pausing upon spotting Wednesday.

"I knew it! Hello, Thing." The hand leapt from the mattress to the bedframe, latching on as Wednesday grabbed its wrist, yanking it towards the desk and slamming it down. Esmeria had to admit, Wednesday did look rather hot.

Esmeria walked up behind Wednesday as she was talking to the hand. "Did you think my highly trained olfactory sense wouldn't pick up on the faint whiff of neroli and bergamot in your favorite hand lotion?"

The hand slightly quivered. Wednesday's eyebrow quirked. "I could do this all day."

The desk started shaking from the amount of quivering that the hand was doing, while Esmeria started humming the actual song 'I could do this all day'. You know the one from Rogers: The Musical in Hawkeye? Yeah, that's it.

The hand saw Esmeria standing behind Wednesday and started frantically signing at the black-clad girl. Wednesday sighed. "Thing, that's Esmeria. She's a... friend. Esmeria, this is Thing."

"Hello Thing!" Esmeria chirped, seemingly unfazed by the whole thing. I mean, she had seen weirder stuff.

Wednesday went back to her previous conversation with the hand. "Mother and Father sent you to spy on me, didn't they? I'm not above breaking a few fingers. That they thought I wouldn't find out proves how much they underestimate me."

"Oh Thing, you poor, naive appendage. My parents aren't worried about me. They're evil puppeteers who pull strings from afar. The way I see it, you have two options. Option one." Wednesday lifted Thing up and pulled open her desk drawer.

"I lock you in here for the rest of the semester, and you go slowly insane trying to claw your way out, ruining your nails and your smooth, supple skin. And we both know how vain you are." She placed the shaking hand back on the desk. "Option two. You pledge your undying loyalty to me."

Thing slowly but surely lowerd into the hand version of a bow. Although having been introduced to the hand, Esmeria was still unsure what to make of the situation. Wednesday lightly nodded. "Our first order of business is to escape this teenage purgatory."

Thing quickly signed something.

"Of course I have a plan. And it begins now."

Esmeria shook her head. "No- Sorry- Excuse me, but what the Underworld is going on right now? I'm very confused."

Wednesday sighed. "I suppose proper introductions would be appropriate. Esmeria, this is Thing. No one knows how long he has been in the family, and no one knows where the rest of his body is."

Esmeria nodded. "Oh, ok! Well, I'm Esmeria, Wednesday's kind-of friend."

Thing waved, before signing something to Esmeria. She tilted her head. "Well, my main power is being able to control plants."

Wednesday lifted her head. The mystery was unraveling, and she wouldn't admit it, but she was getting excited. "So, how can you do that? Is one of your parents a witch or warlock or something of the like?"

Esmeria shook her head and thought for a second. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt to tell you guys... It is a bit shocking though."

Wednesday shrugged. "We're in Nevermore. Isn't everything shocking?"

Esmeria adjusted how she was standing. "My mum is Persephone, and my dad is Hades. Yes, I am talking about the god and goddess."

Wednesday's eyes widened slightly. "Really?" She stood up and began circling Esmeria like a hawk, studying her. "Greek Mythology is all real?"

Esmeria tilted her head from side to side. "Majority of the different pantheons are. It depends on what you believe in, I suppose."

Wednesday very lightly chuckled. "Fascinating."

Esmeria's eyes blew open. "Did I just make THE Wednesday Addams laugh?"

Wednesday immediately sat back down. "No."

Esmeria laughed, and Wednesday almost blushed. "Well Wednesday Addams, I'll be seeing you. Keep my secret and remember, reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram, buy gold!"

Then the brunette stepped backwards, and melted into the shadows of Wednesday's wall. The girl with ebony hair sighed. "Thing, there is something wrong with me. I have this weird feeling, like spiders are crawling in my stomach."

"No, I can't like her."

"Because she will never like me back!"

Meanwhile, Esmeria was in her room, frantically texting the groupchat she shared with her cousins.

Part 3.

Esmeria was leaning against a wall, the sound of swords clashing filling the air around her. She looked over to the door as it opened, revealing a short girl dressed in an entirely black fencing outfit.

Wednesday Addams.

Esmeria's eyes followed Wednesday across the room before flicking to where Bianca and Rowan had been dueling as a thud sounded, signaling Rowan falling over and Bianca winning once again.

Rowan immediately started trying to defend himself. "Coach, coach, she tripped me!"

Coach Vlad shook his head. "It was a clean strike, Rowan."

Bianca pulled her helmet off. "Maybe if you whined less and practiced more, you wouldn't suck."

Esmeria tilted her head. For all intents and purposes, that was actually quite true. Bianca wasn't done though. "Seriously coach, when am I gonna get some real competition? Anyone else wanna challenge me?"

Esmeria opened her mouth, knowing that she could easily beat the siren if she wanted to, but Wednesday got there first, speaking as she stepped foward. "I do."

Bianca smiled the fakest smile Esmeria had ever seen. "Oh, you must be the psychopath they let in."

Wednesday retaliated immediately. "And you must be the self-appointed Queen Bee. Interesting thing about bees. Pull out their stingers, they drop dead."

There was a muffled 'ooh' from the surrounding fencers, and Esmeria's lips quirked in amusement.

Bianca stepped foward lightly. "Rowan doesn't need you to come to his defense. He's not helpless, he's lazy."

Wednesday sighed imperceptibly, speaking harshly. "Are we doing this or not?"

So they did. Three out of three. By the end of the first two matches, both girls had a single point. Esmeria turned her head to the coach as he spoke. "The score is even."

Wednesday and Bianca pulled off their masks, the latter with a grin upon her lips. "That first point was clearly beginners luck. Let's finish this."

Wednesday moved towards Coach Vlad. "For the final point, I would like to invoke a military challenge. No masks. No tips."

The surrounding fencers 'ooh'ed again as Wednesday finished speaking. "Winner draws first blood."

Esmeria kicked herself off the wall, walking foward to stand next to the coach. "This should be interesting."

Wednesday glanced over, having only just noticed the brunette. She sure was quiet. Bianca glared at Esmeria. "Shut it, death breath."

The coach brushed them both off. "It's your decision, Bianca."

Bianca opened and closed her mouth, and Wednesday tilted her head. Was Bianca... scared?

Apparently not, for the siren regained her composure and spoke with so much sass that one would think her name was Percy Jackson. "Let's see if you bleed in black and white."

Bianca threw her mask to the side, and the two immediately lunged at each other, ducking and twirling across the room. Bianca lunged at Wednesday, and the girl sprung into a cartwheel. If Esmeria wasn't drooling before, she was now. Their blades clashed for a few more seconds before Bianca swung her sword, slicing Wednesday's skin just above her left eyebrow.

Esmeria audibly gasped. Wednesday's finger lightly wiped the cut, in disbelief at the sight of the blood on her finger. Bianca smiled sarcasticly. "Your face finally got that splash of color it so desperately needed."

Esmeria walked over. "Shove off, Bianca." She lightly grabbed Wednesday's arm, leading her out of the room, letting go of the slightly taller girl's arm as the door shut behind them. "Are you ok? Wait, that's a dumb question. How are you feeling?"

Wednesday stared blankly at Esmeria. Why was this girl being so nice to her? Wednesday wasn't complaining, but the two had barely spoken. "I feel... off."

Esmeria raised an eyebrow. "In a good way or a bad way?"

Wednesday shrugged slowly. "I don't know."

Esmeria thought for a second before she spoke. "Well, let's get you to the nurse's office and get that cut cleaned up, ok?"

Wednesday frowned. "I don't want someone I've never met touching my head."

Esmeria nodded. "I suppose that is a bit weird. How about I do it? Would that be ok?"

Wednesday paused. She'd never had anyone like Esmeria care for her before. Wednesday liked it. Anytime Esmeria said something, it felt like there were spiders crawling in her stomach. "I suppose that would be acceptable."

Esmeria grabbed Wednesday's hand, walking towards the nurse's office. Wednesday was glad that Esmeria in front, so the brunette couldn't see the blush that was spreading across her face. What was wrong with her?

Esmeria pushed open the door to the nurse's office, leading Wednesday over to one of the beds that was in the room, waving off the nurses who tried to take Wednesday away from her.

One nurse made the mistake of taking hold of the black-clad girls arm. Esmeria stepped foward, glaring at the nurse. "Let go of her."

The nurse scoffed. "I am in charge here, young lady. I say what goes."

Esmeria stepped in front of Wednesday, staring into the nurse's eyes. "I said. Let. Go."

The nurse gasped lightly, stepping back at the sight of literal black flames burning in the brunette's eyes. An ember leapt out and burned her arm, making her gasp again and scurry away.

Wednesday raised an eyebrow. "What did you do Esmè?"

Esmeria blushed at the use of the nickname and shrugged. "Just a little party trick my dad taught me. Now sit still."

Wednesday did so. Esmeria brought a wet cloth up to the cut, dabbing it so as to remove the blood. She placed it down and picked up a band-aid, turning back to Wednesday and gulping at their close proximity.

She reached out to hold the side of Wednesday's head in place. "Is that ok?" She breathed.

Wednesday nodded, her heartbeat stalling for a second as Esmeria's soft fingers held her cheek, lightly pressing the band-aid onto her forehead.

The moment was shattered as Rowan's voice broke out behind Wednesday. "You're Wednesday, right?"

Wednesday slowly turned her attention from Esmeria to Rowan, and the brunette quietly left the room, not wanting to intrude on their conversation.

Part 2.

When Wednesday returned from her thoughts, Enid and Esmeria were bickering back and forth relentlessly, until Enid gave up, turning back to Wednesday to continue the conversation about Bianca. "Her crown's been slipping lately though. She used to date our resident tortured artist, Xavier Thorpe. But they broke up at the beginning of the semester. Reason unknown."

Wednesday lightly raised an eyebrow. "Fascinating."

Enid nodded violently. "I know, right! My vlog is, like, the number one source for Nevermore gossip."

"Yo, Enid!" Enid and Esmeria turned upon hearing Ajax's voice, Wednesday hidden behind them. The gorgon ran foward, greeting Esmeria. "Hey Esmé." He then turned back to Enid. "You're not gonna believe the dirt I heard about your new roommate. She eats human flesh. Totally chowed down on that kid she murdered. You better watch your back."

Enid and Esmeria moved apart to reveal Wednesday, who immediately started speaking. "Quite the contrary. I actually fillet the bodies of my victims, then feed them to my menagerie of pets."

Esmeria smirked. This girl just kept getting better and better. The look on Ajax's face was hilarious. Enid slowly gestured to the girl dressed in black. "Ajax, this is my new roommate, Wednesday."

Ajax looked Wednesday up and down. "Whoa. You're in black and white." Then looked at Enid. "Like a living Instagram filter."

Enid rolled her eyes and pushed Ajax away. "Ignore him. Gorgons spend way too much time getting stoned. He's cute, but clueless. You know, it's a small school, and there wasn't much online about you. Oh! You should really get on Insta, Snapchat and TikTok."

Wednesday held Enid's stare. "I find social media to be a soul-sucking void of meaningless affirmation." She then turned and walked away.

Esmeria sighed dreamily. "I'm so gay."

Enid laughed and tugged Esmeria's arm. "Weren't you gonna get your cousins to come over?"

Esmeria's eyes widened and she nodded, taking out her phone.

It was a fun afternoon. Artemis and Apollo came over and the four of them sat in Esmeria's dorm, gossiping and laughing. But, all good things must come to an end.

"We've gotta go now, sorry." Apollo spoke, checking the time on his phone.

Enid whined sadly. "Do you have to?"

Artemis laughed and nodded. "Yeah, sorry Enid. But we'll come and visit again soon!"

Esmeria smiled. "Sounds good! See you guys later."

Enid and Esmeria closed their eyes tightly as Artemis and Apollo shuffled off the bed. There was a sudden whooshing sound, and a flash of light appeared behind both girls' eyelids. When they opened their eyes again, the twins were gone. Enid sighed. "Well that was fun, but I should really head back to my dorm. Night!"

Esmeria nodded. "See you tomorrow!"

The werewolf hopped off Esmeria's bed and left the room. Esmeria looked at the dark purple electric guitar in the corner of her room, thinking. Then she shook her head, changed into her pajamas, and crawled under the covers of her black four-poster bed, falling asleep almost the second her head touched the pillow.

Esmeria's dreams were always shifting and changing, but tonight they settled on one thing and stayed there. It was a bit strange, but Esmeria definitely wasn't complaining. Having Wednesday Addams walking around her dreams made everything feel better.

This may not be very good, but here you go!

Word Count: 1482

Part 1.

To most who crossed her path, Esmeria Roman was considered abnormal. She was 5'0, with silky dark brown hair and the most enchanting pair of stormy gray eyes that anyone had ever seen. Her family was a complicated one. Not that she was complaining, they were wonderful in her opinion, but they were considered just as abnormal (if not more so) as Esmeria. Her father was Hades, Lord of the Underworld, and her mother was Persephone, Goddess of Spring.

No one knew that of course. If people found out that her parents were Greek gods, her whole life, everything she had worked so hard to achieve, would go up in smoke. Only two people knew of Esmeria's parentage. The first was Larissa Weems, headmistress of Nevermore Academy, the school for outcasts (Vampires, Sirens, Werewolves, and people with powers in general). The second was Enid Sinclair, one of Esmeria's best friends.

You may be wondering, 'If it's a school for outcasts, why can't anyone know who her parents are?' The answer to that question is that to normies, the gods are simply myths, and it's best that they stay that way. It just makes it easier if the outcasts don't know either.

Esmeria got most of her powers from her mum, being able to manipulate plants and a little bit of the weather. She could manipulate the dead (animals and humans), but she could only do it once every so often, as it took a lot of energy out of her. Which is why she was now lying on Enid Sinclair's bed, half asleep, the young werewolf trying to cheer her up.

"Come on, Esmè! My new roomie's getting here today. Can you at least act happy for me? Please?"

Esmeria groaned, cracking her eyes open to glare at Enid. "You were the one who wanted to cuddle the squirrel, Enid."

Enid pouted, opening her mouth to speak, only to hear the door creak open. Esmeria lifted a finger, speaking the words, "Ding dong." Before rolling over as if to go to sleep while she listened to the voices of those who had entered the room.

"It's so... vivid." She heard a man's voice say, being immediately followed by Enid's perky, "Howdy, roomie!"

She sat up as Larissa Weems spoke. "Wednesday, this is Enid Sinclair."

Esmeria sat up on the bed, five heads turning to look at her, with three unfamiliar faces. The two oldest were a man and a woman, clearly married. The woman was stunning. She was tall, with long black hair and a long black tight-fitting dress. Her husband was shorter, also with black hair, wearing a grey pinstriped suit.

There was a girl standing between them (Wednesday), and she was the most beautiful person Esmeria had ever seen. Her long raven black hair was done into two braids that framed her face, and her fringe stopped just above her equally as dark eyes. Her skin was almost as pale as snow, and her eyes glared out at the room before her.

Esmeria paused for a second, regaining her composure, and walked calmly over to the small group, Weems smiling in a welcoming manner at the brunette's presence. "And this is Esmeria Roman, our resident florist."

Esmeria frowned at the headmistresses little jibe about her powers. "You know I resent the flower jokes, Larissa."

Enid glanced between the two, eventually stepping foward to speak to Wednesday. "Are you feeling okay? You look a little... pale."

Esmeria's eyes widened. "Enid you can't just ask that." She hissed.

Wednesday tilted her head imperceptibly, noticing the brunette's slight Italian accent.

Wednesday's mother moved foward a bit. "Wednesday always looks half dead."

Enid nodded lightly. "Oh." She then surged forward, arms wide for a hug. "Welcome to Ophelia Hall!"

Wednesday stepped backwards with a minorly disgusted expression on her face at the same time that Esmeria tugged Enid backwards, correctly assuming that Wednesday wasn't a hugger.

Enid shrugged, a smile still bright on her face. "Not a hugger. Got it."

Esmeria tuned out of the conversation slightly, as a small buzzing noise filled her head. She caught the words: "Please excuse Wednesday, she's allergic to colour." The buzzing slowly receded as Enid said: "Oh, wow."

Esmeria stepped foward, standing next to Enid. "If you don't mind me asking, what happens?"

Wednesday tilted her head, speaking flatly. "I break out into hives and the flesh peels off my bones."

Esmeria grinned, turning to Enid. "Enid, do you still have the death book I left here?"

Enid rolled her eyes. "Next to the pens."

Esmeria nodded and ran over to find it. Larissa sighed. "Sorry about her, she's a bit... morbid. Anyway, we've special ordered you a uniform, Wednesday." She chuckled.

Esmeria walked back to the group, a notebook clutched in her hand, pen scribbling furiously at the paper. Larissa sighed. "Enid, please take Wednesday to the registrar's office to pick it up along with her schedule, and give her a tour along the way. Maybe take Esmeria with you? I don't want her to blow anything up again."

Enid nodded, and so they were off.

❀⁂❀⁂❀

Enid, Esmeria and Wednesday were walking around the school, Enid chattering away happily, Esmeria looking very bored. "Nevermore was founded in 1791 to educate people like us. Outcasts, freaks, monsters, fill in your favorite marginalized group here."

Wednesday turned to look at Enid. "You can save the sanitized sales pitch. I don't plan on staying here for long."

Esmeria frowned, tilting her head. "Why not?"

"This was my parents idea." Wednesday glanced over to a picture containing an old fencing team. "Oh look, there's my mother smirking at me." She turned her head back to the blonde and brunette. "They've been looking for any excuse to send me here. It's all part of their nefarious, yet completely obvious plan."

Enid smiled slightly. "What plan?"

Wednesday turned back to look at the other two. "To turn me into a version of themselves."

Esmeria grinned (she seemed to be doing that a lot around Wednesday). "Well then, perhaps you can clear something up. Rumor's been swirling around that you killed a kid at your old school, and your parents pulled some strings to get you off."

Wednesday walked past Enid and Esmeria. "Actually it was two kids, but who's counting?"

Esmeria sighed in happiness, clutching Enid's arm. "Enid, she's perfect."

Enid raised an eyebrow, gazing at Esmeria in confusion. "How are you this whipped already? You know what, nevermind. Come on!"

And they walked after Wednesday.

❀⁂❀⁂❀

Enid spread her arms out. "This is the quad."

Wednesday spoke, taking the words right out of Esmeria's mouth. "It's a pentagon."

Enid sighed, walking away with the two short girls following her. "The whole snarky goth girl thing might have worked at normie school, but here things are different. Let me give you a wiki on Nevermore's social scene."

"I'm not interested in participating in tribal adolescent clichés."

"Well then use it to fill your obviously bottomless pit of disdain." Enid said, somewhat smugly, and Esmeria rolled her eyes at her friend.

Enid spoke again, with a smile this time. "There are many flavors of outcasts here, but the four main cliques are Fangs, Furs, Stoners and Scales." She counted them off on her fingers. "Those are the Fangs, AKA vampires."

Esmeria leaned close to Wednesday's face. "Some of them have literally been here for decades."

Enid smiled, walking further foward. "That bunch of knuckleheads are Furs, AKA werewolves. Like me!" Upon spotting her, all of the Furs started howling at Enid.

The trio stopped walking, all looking out at the quad (pentagon). Esmeria spoke this time. "Full moons get pretty loud around here. That's when Furs like, wolf out. I suggest you pick up noise-canceling headphones. Or you can bunk with me!"

Wednesday turned to look at her, and a blush spread across the brunette's cheeks. "My dad pulled some strings, so I don't have a roommate. I soundproofed my room so I can't her them, and they can't hear me."

Wednesday nodded slowly, then turning to look at Enid. "I'm assuming Scales are sirens?"

Enid nodded. "You catch on quick. And that girl, Bianca Barclay, is the closest thing Nevermore has to royalty. Apart from Esmeria, but that's something different."

Wednesday's head turned back to Esmeria, who moved closer to Enid, now standing in the middle. "I don't understand why we can't just kill her."

Wednesday was intrigued. Enid was not. "Because, Esmé, murder is illegal."

Esmeria rolled her eyes. "That has never stopped me before."

Both of Wednesday's eyebrows had now disappeared behind her fringe. Had this sweet girl really killed people? If so, how did they anger her to the point of committing murder? As much as she did not want to admit it, Wednesday liked Esmeria Roman. The mystery surrounding her was one that Wednesday wanted to untangle.
