Okay this needs to be said and it needs to be said loudly.

STOP WRITING FAMILY/PARENT/DOMESTIC READER INSERT FICS AND ASSIGNING THE CHILDREN FEATURES ATTRIBUTED TO WHITE PEOPLE!!!!

Literally, nothing feels more exclusionary and hurtful than to get excited to read a fluffy domestic fic, only to read about children described as having “Chris’ blue eyes” or “Steve’s blonde hair”. You are making it very apparent that you aren’t writing with POC in mind and that you only write for the white readers in the fandom.

Same with writing for “y/n” and writing about messy buns, silky straight hair, and white features. (Yet you all have no problem writing that y/n has ‘plump’ lips) Stop cherry picking features that are palatable to you, when you claim to be writing for everyone.

Maybe try writing original characters instead of reader insert if you want to describe a character/family as having specific features, but don’t project your white beauty standards on a whole fandom because not all of us are white and again, you are making it pretty clear that you aren’t writing with the intent of the reader possibly being a POC.

(And pls don’t use the excuse ‘some POC have blue eyes/blonde hair’, while that is in fact true, it is still not accurately representative of ALL POC, so just don’t do it??)

I have no idea why some of you have issues writing reader characters with ambiguous features or simply not describing their features at all?? It’s truly not integral to the story to specifically describe hair colors/eye colors/skin colors if it is reader insert.

Anyways. This has been on my mind for YEARS and I’m putting it into the universe because this shit is getting tiring and there are really no excuses for it.

They'd been arguing for about an hour. Yelling at each other and throwing stuff all over the car. Before that they'd been laughing their asses off, for a good 10 minutes too. Until his phone rang and she threatened to throw it out into the rain.

At least that's how Amara thinks it went down by the looks of it. Her mom's car's only close enough to see the whole thing go down, too far for her to hear anything. All she can hear is Me and Your Mama by Childish Gambino blasting through the radio. She purses her lips when the woman leaves the car. She knows its her fault.

Although to be fair, Amara had no idea that Lakeith was with his wife this weekend, let alone in the same grocery store parking lot. She only saw his face clearly after Nia started playing with his blinkers and started yelling. She actually called to joke about seeing a guy who looks a lot like him in the parking lot.

But she called at the wrong time.

Amara grimaces as her eyes follow Nia who storms off into the store, probably to get herself a bottle of wine to calm her down. She turns her head back to Lakeith's car to find him frowning at her from across the lot. "Fuck," she mutters, scrambling to find a mask and her sunglasses. She quickly slips them on and slides down her seat, hiding behind the steering wheel in shame.

She checks stares at her phone waiting for him to call or send a lengthy text about how much trouble she was in.

Nothing.

Maybe he left, she thinks to herself. She shifts her body, positioning just enough to take a peek at his car. There's no one there. "Maybe he followed her into the store," she says.

A knock on the window startles her but she doesn't look immediately. She's afraid it's him. "God, I know we don't have the best relationship and that I haven't been to church in years, but please God, I am begging you to not let it be Lakeith," she silently prays as she turns her head slowly.

It's her mother. And she looks pissed.

"Thank you Lord," Amara chuckles as she opens her window. "Yes ma?" Her mother rolls her eyes. "Vula iminyango. Ziyasinda ezizinto," her mom demands. "Yes ma." Amara happily obliges, even getting out of the car to help her mother with the groceries.

After putting the bags in the trunk, the women are back in the car, ready to go. Right before Amara starts the car, her phone dings with a notification.

It's a text from Lakeith.

Sunset hotel in 2 hours. DO NOT BE LATE!
