Homelander is one of the best villains I’ve seen in a while…and it’s not just the writing.

I’ve seen similar villains before.

It’s the actor more than anything else. I’ve seen him in other shows and I didn’t even recognize him here. His stance, his behavior and his expressions are entirely different and he made my skin crawl.

Not to mention that I haven’t scene ONE superhero movie in the current cinematic universes with a villain on the same level of creepy, scary adn unhinged.

The Boys: Why Stormfront Makes Soldier Boy Homelander's Biggest Threat

Following the events of The Boys season 2, Soldier Boy is in the perfect position to become the biggest threat to Homelander’s place in public eye. BY MAE ABDULBAKI

Stormfront makes Soldier Boy Homelander’s biggest threat in The Boys. Homelander’s popularity and sense of control took a major hit in season 2 of The Boys. After killing Madelyn Stillwell, Homelander began reporting to Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito), the head of Vought, a pharmaceutical corporation that owned and operated the Seven, an elite team of deadly superheroes. Stan had more firm control over Homelander, which prevented the dangerous man from doing what he wanted. His alliance with Stormfront did him no favors and, now that she’s gone, Homelander is faced with his most challenging adversary yet in Soldier Boy. 

Jensen Ackles will portray Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3. A parody of Captain America, the comic book version of Soldier Boy originated during World War II, his superpowers and physical enhancements the result of the Compound V serum. Soldier Boy, a member of the superhero team Payback, has been referenced a couple of times over the course of the show’s two seasons. He’s been described as the original superhero, with The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke confirming that the history of both Soldier Boy and Payback will be explored in season 3. But, what does that mean for Homelander? 

In short, it’s pretty bad news for the floundering leader of the Seven. Throughout season 2, Homelander associated himself with Stormfront, a Nazi who wanted to carry on with her white supremacist agenda. While they were adversaries at first, Homelander quickly became an ally to Stormfront, who won him over by promising that he would be the leader of her super army. Together, they stoked the fire of the right-leaning extremists. However, when Stormfront was publicly outed as a Nazi and her history revealed, she was edged out as the Vought spokesperson and Homelander was forced to denounce her actions and play victim to her plans.   

This perfectly sets up Soldier Boy’s arrival. With Homelander losing steam, Soldier Boy can replace him as a hero. There are indications that Soldier Boy is a more perfect rival for Homelander, who is an egotistical, unhinged, and insecure man. Soldier Boy is an attractive hero who will presumably be far less naive than his comics counterpart (who sucks up to others to get attention and approval, including from Homelander). With the public probably favoring a new brand of hero, Soldier Boy could swoop in to deliberately take up Homelander’s position as America’s poster boy and leader of the Seven. As a supe, Soldier Boy rivals Homelander in strength and combat skills. 

Played by Ackles, and with some adjustments made for the TV adaptation, Soldier Boy’s presence could turn Homelander into a distant public memory. The latter is already not as powerful or as in control as he wants to be and Soldier Boy’s arrival could provoke him in more ways than one. What’s more, Homelander’s image has already been damaged by his alliance with Stormfront and incidents that revealed he wasn’t exactly as squeaky clean as his publicity team made him out to be. With the public’s loss of trust in him and his capabilities, Soldier Boy is the next best person to replace him in every respect. He will likely turn up the charm while in public, his Captain America-esque persona sets him up as a golden-boy patriot with clean-cut ideals about right and wrong, making him a more palatable option than Homelander in The Boys season 3.

What we learned about The Boys season 3 from Eric Kripke’s twitter Q&A:

(SPOILERS, I guess!)

There will be no deeper meaning behind why The Church of the Collective is obsessed with Fresca, it’s just an inside joke between the writers

Teddy, Madeline Stillwell’s son will be making an appearance

Homelander will be pushed into a corner, there will be media backlash over him dating a nazi and he won’t be too happy with the whole blackmail situation, so he will snap at some point this season

Soldier Boy will provide us with more of Vought’s backstory through the decades, in-between all the cussing and fucking he’ll apparently be doing (Eric was really adamant about this)

Homelander and Soldier Boy will have tension between them, it’ll stem from them being just about equal in power (Homelander is slightly stronger), also the fact that Soldier Boy was basically Homelander before Homelander and, as you all know, our boy is an insecure, little bitch

Stormfront is not dead and will apparently heal from her injuries, since Eric specifically said that she will be “mutilated for a long time”, not permanently (fingers crossed for a Darth Vader suit)  

The rough estimate is that the show will have 5 seasons, although it’s not set in stone, it just feels like a good number creatively for now

Starlight will find herself to be very popular among people, a sort of “rising star among the Seven”, but “things are gonna go to shit pretty quickly”

Ryan will continue to be in the story, “he represents all that’s good about Butcher”, so Butcher will continue to keep tabs on him, they will interact and it’ll be “kind of sweet” (don’t touch me, I’m soft)

Butcher’s big struggle this season will be balancing his “crazy amounts of rage” over what happened to Becca, his hatred for Homelander and taking care of Ryan

Love Sausage will be making another appearance

Black Noir is alive and well, we’ll be learning more about him and there will be “an opportunity for him to take off his mask” (unnecessarily cryptic, but okay)

Soldier Boy and Homelander won’t have a sex scene, like they did in the comics, but there will be a “herogasm”, that we’ve apparently earned (don’t ask, I don’t know)

Cindy is still out there and we will see her again, although it’s not guaranteed that she’ll return this season, the exact phrasing was “Cindy will return before this show is over”

Kimiko will have much more of a chance to express her personality and interests (he kind of dodged the question about whether we’ll actually hear her speak)

Superman= Superhero who is coded as an immigrant/alien that is the subject of controvery because he supposedly 'doesn't belong'.

Brightburn= What if Superman's people were evil and despite growing up with a loving family, found out about his origins and relented to his nature?

Homelander= What if Superman was evil, and didn't grow up with a loving family but rather seen as an experiment and weapon and not as a person or individual?

Omni-man= What if Superman was raised on his home planet and was a colonizer and supremacist, rather than an immigrant?

Seriously they got Hilda back from the dead last time so why couldn’t they do it for Sabrina? Not to mention we saw that Sabrina is there when Zelda is on her death bed.

Like, what is the point.

And the implied suicide at the very end. Unacceptable.

And don’t get me started on Mambo Marie. I fucking loved that character. And I loved her with Zelda. Then they basically jump on the ‘bury your gays’ bandwagon. We finally get some bi representation that isn’t made of stereotypes/assumptions or pushed aside and glossed over and then it gets ripped from us.

Zelda lost so much. My poor baby.
