Hey guys let me tell you about advance fee scams

I hope y'all are familiar with these in this day and age, especially my artists out there, because they're incredibly common.

About half an hour ago I posted a drawing and tagged it #artists on tumblr, and very quickly received this comment.

My scam radar went off immediately, due to the generic blog name and lack of any emotion in the comment, but I decided it might be an entertaining venture so I dmed them. They asked for a drawing "of these", and sent me a random selfie. I got the details and told them it would be $15, and they promptly offered me $300. At this point I know it's a scam, but I play along for funsies and give them my paypal. Shortly, they send me this image for "confirmation" (I blocked out my email)

And they began to insist that I checked my email. I looked in my spam folder and found the following email.

This is fake. This is not a thing. And the "you're to refund the $200.00 back" is the scam. They send vaguely official-looking emails at you to "prove" that they sent you the money, then have you send them $200 (or however much the scam is for). Then, surprise surprise, you're out $200.

I continued to play along for a bit, and in the second email "Paypal" told me that I had to refund the $200 before they could "credit the $300 to my account", along with these lovely threats.

And yeah, it's silly. But it's not silly if you don't know and get scammed. So. Spread, please! And thank you very much to @mlaurel for the opportunity to get these screenshots.

The Bats finding out that Jason is alive because the fic Tim had read from the user JayRobin2222 when he was twelve and which had not updated in years gets a new chapter with an author's note that says "sorry for the late update! I died and couldn't get back to my computer to write this until now. I'm better now though, don't worry!"

Bruce Wayne panicking because he walks into a WE board meeting to see a fully suited Red Hood sat at the table spinning around in a wheelie chair and CEO Tim Drake can only shrug and be like 'well he wanted to invest money'

Bruce, frantically pulling Tim aside: he is a CRIMINAL

Tim: so is like 90% of Gotham's elite. nobody else cares.

*both of them peer through the window to see literally nobody else in the meeting acting like a helmeted crime lord amongst them is any way odd. Stacy from accounting offers him a coffee and Red Hood denies politely*

Bruce: i understand him donating money, but why is he at our board meetings!??!

Tim: oh he bought like, over half our stocks. he owns 58% of the company now

Bruce:

Bruce: but thats...

Tim: yeah. more than you. Jason's the majority shareholder now.

Bruce:

Bruce: why did you let him do this

Tim: well you WANTED him to be part of the FAMILY again-

Bruce: SO YOU APPROVED HIM BUYING MY COMPANY?!

Tim:

Tim: shouldnta' benched me from fucking patrol.

Bruce:

Red Hood, knocking on the glass: can y'all wrap it the fuck up? i have other meetings to attend to after this

I swear we used to be able to think critically about random GoFundMe asks

It used to be understood that if someone using a throwaway blog suddenly starts messaging a bunch of accounts to beg for money, they were most likely a scammer.

Now suddenly there are fucking swarms of throwaway bots relentlessly shilling GoFundMe campaigns to anyone who even so much as breathes in the direction of a trending tag or post, yet the mere suggestion that any of these could be a scam will immediately get you yelled at by self-righteous strangers.

What changed?
