Hey uhhh… even if you don’t live in Ohio can you spread this like wildfire please? You can also can also call John Becker, the sponsor of this bill, at (614) 466-8134. Seriously I can’t take another abortion bill.
This isn’t a massive topic in international news (yet), but Hong Kong may be passing an amended extradition law that would allow the Chinese government to come to Hong Kong to arrest people or even confiscate their property, through Extradition Requests. The reason why this is terrible for HK is because HK and China currently use “one country, two systems”. It means that while technically the two are in the same country, there are 2 different (legal) systems used. HK has freedom of speech, China does not. HK also has a much higher rule of law ranking than China.
If this law is passed, mainland Chinese authorities will be able to arrest people in HK on trumped-up charges. They’ve already taken our people because they didn’t like the things some of them did. For example, a bookstore owner in HK was kidnapped by the Chinese authorities because he sold books that were banned in mainland China. Imagine how much worse this situation would be if arresting people in HK became legal for Chinese authorities?
This is a threat to the HK system and freedom of speech in HK. 30 years ago on June 4, there was a protest in Beijing, China. Most of the attendees were students, who were fighting for democracy, freedom of speech and greater accountability from the higher-ups in the government. Several hundred to over thousands of participants were killed by the Chinese military with assault rifles and tanks. This is now called the Tiananmen Massacre. It is now censored in mainland China, and just the mention of the Tiananmen Massacre can lead to the person getting arrested or even killed. It’s been entirely erased from their history, and most young people do not know that it happened. There aren’t any more protests in mainland China because this is what happens if they do; they have been silenced by their government. HK is the only city on Chinese soil with the ability to talk about this tragic event, and we hold a vigil every year on June 4 to speak out against the Chinese government and how they refuse to acknowledge this event. If this law were passed, HK would be silenced as well, and the Tiananmen Massacre would be entirely wiped from history within China.
The reason why this needs greater international attention is that it isn’t just a matter of HK lives. There are hundreds of thousands of expats living in HK, with a great number of international businesses and tourists within the city. If any one of them says or does something that the Chinese government doesn’t like, the government could make up trumped-up charges to pin on them then take them to mainland China, where who knows what would happen to them. Everyone in HK’s life and safety is threatened. HK, as we know and love, would die.
If you’re still reading this, I sincerely thank you. On June 9, there will be rallies going on around the world in the cities mentioned in the below pic. I urge you to participate if this is something you sympathize with if possible. The best way to help would be to generate international attention. Stand with HK, and help us keep our people safe.
Many of you may know that I keep youtube playlists of language samples, and I thought it was about time to compile them all into one post. They contain pretty much anything where you can hear the language clearly – music, dialogues, tutorials, movie trailers, readings, etc. I’ll probably add more in the future. Hope someone finds them useful!

youtube comment of the week
A long time ago an anon asked my thoughts about drawing backgrounds, so I finally got around to putting this together. It’s more prop-centric, but it still represents my philosophy to backgrounds.
I’ll try to do something more about drawing actual background spaces in the future! Please let me know what you think, if anything is unclear, or if you have suggestions for other tutorials you might find helpful!
Things to bring back in books:
Chapter titles
Actually having a synopsis on the back instead of reviews no one will read
This was a request and at first I wasn’t sure if I had anything to provide with, but as it turn out it got a little longer than I expected because there were actually things I had to say!! Wow!!
Anyway, this is some guidelines I follow when I try to make the face expressfull, more specifically the mouth! It is often neglected, since it’s actually pretty hard, I’ll admit. But I’m here to help (hopefully…)! A mouth expression tutorial as per request. Enjoy and hopefully it will help some a little. ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
This is super important. The upper jaw follows the angle of the head, and the lower jaw will depend on how open it is. Make sure you have a rough estimate of where the teeth are, and how much of them you’re going to see!
The lips will VERY roughly follow the same angle as the teeth. It really depends on the character, but it gives you a sense at least.
If you DON’T do this, you’re going to lose so much volume and the mouth is going to end up looking unrelatable. I showed this example in this tutorial:
The cheeks, chin, and tongue play a role too!
Try look at your own mouth or references! I have a very pliable and large mouth, so that’s one reason why my characters have it too lmao.
I cannot emphasize how important asymmetry is when drawing expressions. It applies not only to the eyebrows to achieve the Dreamwork Face™, but also the mouth. Seriously if you draw a symmetric mouth I will deliver myself to your mailbox and then shout at you until you fix it.
Look at the difference between these two for example: which one has more “life”?
I think you get the idea.
Here’s an old drawing I have but it illustrates how I think when I squish the mouth, and use folding and wrinkles to my advantage.
Look at your own face and see where skin bundles up, where it creases the most and when bumps appear on your chin. Subtle details makes all the difference!
One VERY effective detail is illustrated in the first sketch, where I pull upwards on one side, and downwards on the other. That’s a good detail to use when the character is making a skewed expression, or is extremely frustrated. I encourage you to play around with that concept bc it’s ~super effective~!
Happy: Your entire mouth is pushed upwards, not just the corners of your mouth!
I tend to draw a :3 mouth bc I’ve been drawing Lance too much….. You don’t have to but it’s basically imprinted in my motor memory by now.
Pouting/frowning: corners are pushed down, middle pushed slightly up. Sometimes, there’s a slight dip in the middle too. It can give a sense that the character is biting their lips.
Showing frustration/intimidating/is intimidated: basically showing a lot of teeth. The corners are as open as possible and the middle sorta more squished. An extremely important detail here is showing some of the gums, and open space between the cheeks and teeth. That way it looks like the mouth it open to it’s full potential. Here is also where you basically MUST add folds and bumps, or else it’s not going to look relatable.
(Here I am again with the pulling upwards on one side and downwards on the other, as illustrated on the last sketch)
And then again, here’s just another doodle showing how important it is to show the gums. It’s the same face twice, but the second one looks slightly more frustrated doesn’t it?
(from my other tutorial on how to draw facial expressions)
As you can see, this last one is very versatile and I draw it a lot. Play around with the basic shape and see how much subtle details makes a lot of difference!
I hope that cleared some things up and was somewhat helpful! Enjoy drawing ✨

decorating tip for people who aren’t allowed to choose their wall colors (teens, students, renters etc). they now make self-adhesive wallpaper that’s
easy to apply by yourself
removable: easy to peel off w/out damage
can be reusable
they can be expensive, so shop around. a cheaper option is wall decals, which come in a range of sizes. you can even order a custom print online. or just use wallpaper on an accent wall or smaller spaces.
