The way slurs are censored in Disco Elysium reminds me of this gem from Mort.
I understand that 'Yefreitor' is a modifier added to a rank when you refuse a promotion. And that 'Detective' works basically the same way (except that the way you acquire it is kess clear). But I'm still unsure about satellite-officer. Is it a modifier ? Because no one is calling Jean anything else. We know that you become Satellite-officer if your partner is promoted and 'you rise with him'. But does it replace your actual rank? Are all Satellite-officer equals? MacLaine is also a Satellite-officer, but his partner is a sergeant, so does Jean outrank him even though their titles are EXACTLY THE SAME? How do people know?
And if it is a modifier if another rank, why not say the rank like they do with Yefreitor? Like Lieutenant-Satellite.
It's just such a weird rank to have. Have they been promoted but they have to keep the Satellite designation to remember where they come from? You can be a Lieutenant[normal], a Lieutenant [Yefreitor][complimentory] or a Lieutenant [Satellite][derogatory] ? How do you get rid of the modifier that says 'you're not that good but this other guy is, so... ' ?If you change partner, are you demoted? To a rank below? To the last rank that you held on your own?
Incredibly confusing hierarchical system.
Yk sometimes i think getting caught up in 70s dm makes me lose appreciation for the fact that if 70s dm didnt happen then thats actually equally insane. Like Daniel and Armand having a whole multiyear romance Daniel forgot about is fucking crazy, but so is the fact that armand broke his vow of never making a fledgling for this guy after knowing him for a cumulative two weeks. At least if the 70s happened he could have had a respectable period of becoming obsessed with him. If they truly hadnt seen each other in 50 years and Armand just looney tunes tripped and fell into being in love with this guy thats actually also crazy.
I hadn't played Disco Elysium when I first read this so re-reading it now feels like bonus content.
Since I can't edit polls to retroactively link parts together, here's a masterpost of them all, updated as it happens.
Vote to solve a thrilling mystery of assassination and intrigue, or at least to eventually discover if the body in front of you is actually dead or not, that bit has been taking us a while.

BE VIGILANT.
I LOVE YOU.
I think people are vastly underestimating how complicated metallurgy and engineering are. Have these 20 people studied it beforehand? Because I don't know how to make steel. I don't know how to extract iron. I don't even know how to recognize iron ore. Plus I think it tends to be underground, so how do I know where to dig? I don't even have a shovel. Then I have to refine it and alloy it with something maybe? So I need to test different alloys and purification methods. And we need to feed ourselves all the while. Starting from absolute zero I think we'd be lucky to have a sword after 3 years.
its terrible for any number of reasons, but i think if we invent immortality there should be an extreme sport called civilizational speedrunning where teams of 20 go into the wilderness somewhere and try and be the fastest build the first internal combustion engine. i bet you could get it down to like 3 years tops
I have very conflicted feelings about Jean Vicquemare but I think this sums it up pretty well
Update: I did a very chaotic run (not trying to be an asshole but also doing all the drugs all at once) and Kim is angelically patient. But you still get moments like these:
And it took all I had not to immediately turn this whole playthrough around. One day my little completionist heart might want to do the fascist vision vision quest but I don't know if I have it in me. I want to do Kim simp run now.
BUT I also put a lot of point in Physique which means I got to see more of Shivers and other dialogue options. Some of my favorites:
You get more occasions to see people comment on your different situationships.
I did the ultraliberal quest and it's darkly funny to me that I sometimes wondered which dialogue option was the ultraliberal and which one was the fascist.
I also wanted to see the ending if you finish the game with Cuno, so I didn't try to warn Kim at the tribunal. I feel like a traitor. Since I have finished the game with Kim before, I knew what he would have said and having Cuno not knowing what you're talking about (or not fucking caring, 'cause Cuno Doesn't Fucking Care) was TORTURE. Esprit de Corps also interjects with vision of what Kim is doing. Just to hurt me, I think. The worst one, in my opinion, is that you can't get a picture of the phasmid and get this instead.
But a legendary Half-light check let me convince Kim to wear the jacket, so I guess it was all worth it in the end.
Help I want to do a different playthrough of Disco Elysium but I am afraid of disappointing Kim.

My joy at the idea of Armand truthers is only interrupted by war-flashbacks of another tv show in which the text of previous seasons existed in-universe in book form.
The Shepherd's Crown, Lords and Ladies, and Don't Be Afraid, Just Start The Tape.
I have been trying to remember what Armand's death monologue was reminding me of and it's the elves in the Discworld.
There seems to be an almost fandom-wide agreement that devil's minion happened in the 70s-80s, and while I understand the appeal (and can see some possible hints of it in canon), I have to say that I would find it 100% funnier if Armand fell in love with Old Man Daniel Molloy, #1 Armand hater.
I've recently read What If 2, and since my brain has been pointing true IWTV for a few weeks now, I couldn't help but get stuck on this question:
Link to the entire thing:
This has two possible explanations: The first (most likely) is that vampires in IWTV don't get drunk on the actual alcohol in people's blood, they get drunk on the drunkenness. The second, much funnier explanation is that when you become a vampire you also become a lightweight who gets incredibly drunk on a pint of beer.

Enjoy your Magnussing, Early Access Folk!
The thing is, The Magnus Archives have rewritten my brain and are now associated with every tape recorder I even think about. And then of course there's the Horrors.
I've just finished watching Interview with the Vampire and I can't believe Daniel passed up the opportunity to point out how high the Paris Covent would score on the BITE model of cults.
They're right, you know. There is more. FAR more ...
But for now, here ya go. Welcome back. 😈
But those are the funniest options!
I swear I saw this after posting
I have tried not to get obsessive with this election, so I may have missed it, but I got the impression that Mélenchon did his level best to keep his mouth shut during the campaign. I expect this time is now over.

Translated: "According to initial estimates, the left comes first in the second round of the legislative elections, slightly ahead of the presidential camp.
At 8 p.m., according to the first estimates from the Ipsos institute with the Talan group for France Télévisions, Radio France, France24/RFI and LCP-National Assembly, the left-wing coalition Nouveau Front populaire comes out on top in the second round of elections legislative elections, with between 172 and 192 seats.
The presidential camp gathered under the Ensemble banner would win between 150 and 170 seats.
The National Rally and its allies (the fraction of the Les Républicains party which followed the contested president of the party, Eric Ciotti, in his alliance with the RN) would obtain from 132 to 152 seats.
The Les Républicains party, for its part, would win between 57 and 67 seats."
Let's see how it goes.
We'll have the first results of the French legislative election in 5 hours. On the off chance that someone who reads this is still on the fence, go vote for whichever candidate isn't RN.
