Different Crystal Shapes And How To Use Them

Different Crystal Shapes and How To Use Them

TUMBLED

Crystals that have been smoothed or polished from their raw form are usually classified as tumbled stones. They have not been carved into any specific form, but are not jagged to the touch. These crystals are usually more affordable and are good for basic crystal use, including grids, meditation, affirmations, altar work, feng shui or more.

ABUNDANCE

Crystals in an Abundance formation are made up of an elongated quartz crystal with smaller crystals clustered around its base. This is a great stone to attract abundance to your life (hence its name) and is great for acting as a conduit to your wealth and business stones.

NATURAL POINT

Natural points are not necessarily long crystals in a wand-like formation. They are any part of a faceted crystal with a point that has formed naturally, and has not been carved to perfection. These types of stones must be used with caution as the point draws energy to the body (when pointed toward a person) or it draws energy away from the body (when pointed away from the body). These properties make it a great tool for cleansing and healing work.

PHANTOM

The Phantom formation is slightly difficult to find. These crystals have a hazy image within them, although most of the crystal is particularly transclucent. This phantom of ghost within the crystal is said to carry a vast array of information for the past, making it a powerful tool for past-like work and healing. Depending on the crystal that the phantom is found within, additional properties will apply. However, any Phantom formation will be a powerful stone to shake out your skeletons and pave a healthy path for growth.

GENERATOR

A Generator will have six facets (of equal or unequal proportions) that meet into one point. It gets its name for its ability to generate amplified energy, boosting the power of other stones, or the stone it is made of. This type of formation is also very powerful for charging other stones.

GEODE

These stones are elusive because they appear ordinary from the outside. However, when they are opened or broken they reveal a hollow cave with crystals sparkling within. Because of their contained form, geodes have the ability to hold energy within and soften it, allowing it to naturally flow out and disperse evenly. These formations are great for protection or for assisting with healing abusive habits such as alcoholism, drug abuse, sex addiction, shopping addiction, and abusive internal monologues.

RAW

Raw stones are in their natural form and have not been smoothed, polished or altered. Though they are more fragile and can break more easily than other formations, many prefer the look of these stones as they would appear raw in their natural habitat. Like tumbled stones, raw stones are great for all spiritual work and are often quite affordable.

PYRAMID

Pyramids are stones that have been shaped into a point with four equal faceted sides and a square base. These formations are great for warding off negative vibrations or removing blocks within the chakra system. This shape is also a great choice to use in affirmation and manifestation work. The properties of the crystal are amplified in this formation. It is a good choice for healers.

SPHERE

The circle emits energy evenly from all angles, and the Sphere formation is no different. These are powerful formations and are often used in scrying as a tool to peer into the past and future. Because the shape is even from every possible angle, it is believed that light, energy and time pass through it with no rules or hindrances, hence their scrying abilities. They often have flaws or occlusions within them which help with the scrying process, though they can be quite expensive depending on their size.

SQUARE

This formation works well with grounding energies and intentions since its energy is contained and enhanced evenly within the stone. It acts as a foundation to meditation practices and has the ability to transmute negative energy into positive energy. They’re stacking ability makes them great tools for mindfulness and concentration, especially if you’re doing detailed work.

Best places to preform spells or rituals

Being a witch and practicing witchcraft can be so great but where are the best places to preform spells and rituals?

• graveyards - where you can honour the dead and the ancestors

• a forest - some quiet time out in nature can enhance spells and your connection to the earth

• the bathtub - this can be the most relaxing state of mind when you are alone with the door locked. Light some candles and get casting just be sure to be safe around the water!

• outside in the moonlight - this is a place where your magick will get a lot of power! Especially moon spells

• in your room or sacred place in your home - this may seem “boring” but it can be one of the most powerful places considering you are near home and all your tools, it makes lots of people feel calm and at ease

Happy enchanting 🌙✨

GRIMOIRE TIPS&IDEAS

GRIMOIRE TIPS&IDEAS

I’ve heard from quite a few of you that you don’t know what to put in your grimoire, or that you were having a hard time filling it! Here is a jumble of Lapis Cat’s tips & ideas for your grimoire!

Getting started can be hard, for a lot of reasons! I think it took me so incredibly long to do mine because i was so nervous about messing it up.

Different ways to keep your grimoire

- Spiral notebooks

- Composition books

- Binders

- Flash drive/SD card

- In google drive, notes on your phone/computer, online

- I’ve seen a $5 hardback sketchbook from michaels used

I will add, Don’t go off and buy a $65 grimoire that is beautiful for your first one, unless you really just must. You will have many grimoires after this one, and they will get more organized and beautiful as you establish your style over time.

Once you’ve selected your personal book, Its time to gather information to put in it! This is the part i’m often asked about. Nothing is mandatory in a grimoire, and you should add only information that is important to you. The one thing i will suggest you add is a blessing as one of your first pages. I’ve posted a book of shadows blessing in the past <3 Everything listed under this are just ideas for things you can add in!

Spirits & Working With Them

Spirits & Working with them

We are souls temporarily in bodies on earth. Our natural home is in the spirit world, often known as the “Other side”. Whether you realize it or not, We are constantly surrounded by spirits. They may be in human bodies (like ourselves) or “in spirit” form. Just like we have family and friends in this life, We have had other lives with relationships we have deeply cherished and nurtured. Certainly, there are other spirits we have known and loved in other lives that are “in spirit” here on earth. A spirit is nothing more or less than another person, They just don’t have a body. They really aren’t as mysterious or strange as they’re made out to be, I feel like spirits are really misunderstood.

PROTECTION Ok guys, when i say they’re misunderstood i don’t mean every spirit out there is fluffy and sweet. Protection is absolutely the MOST IMPORTANT PART of working with spirits. Like i said, they’re nothing more or less than another person. They are beings, they have their own personalities. Just like with people, Don’t give out your information or be too trusting. Spirits can lie, Spirits can have malicious motives, Spirits can be tricksters and just yank your chain (ever gotten on a Ouija and seen ZOZO or MAMA or freaked bc it was doing something you thought was demonic or enabling the spirit to escape the board? Yeah, you were part of a big joke buddy. Spirits cannot escape the board, they aren’t in the board in the first place.).

Ways to protect yourself:

-Wards, Physically or in the Astral Plane, where spirits typically reside or come from. Astral Projection is not something for beginners to attempt, You really need to know how to deal with and protect yourself from the beings in that plane.

-Protection spells, amulets or talismans

-Sigils

-I have a special tea i brew for myself before spirit workings that is my blend of herbs to protect me and get me in the mindset for spirit work. I also suggest cleansing your energy, Maybe a cleansing bath and a smudge session and some meditation, Clean your energy so no spirits leech off of your negative energy or sense any mental weakness to attack.

-If you are scared, don’t do it. Spirits can smell it from 30 miles away, and will use it against you. Be mentally prepared, protect yourself. (I want to add i have never had any run ins with malicious spirits, But they DO EXIST. Most spirits are kind in my experience.)

COMMUNICATION

You are probably not gonna just be able to sit down and speak to spirits. (They can hear you, But thats listening and not communication.) I suggest picking up a form of divination, like pendulum, dice, or a ouija board to start. Do not Ouija alone if it is your first time and you are unexperienced. You will receive fragmented bits of conversation likely, and this is normal. Start out with simple yes and no questions, and eventually you will work your way up to normal conversation with spirits. It takes time to grow these skills. When i first started i was pulling out my Ouija nonstop!!! Spirits mostly communicate in tattered words, pictures and emotions. Its good to practice energy work, Sensing the kind of energy spirits are bringing in. This way you’ll eventually be able to tell the difference between a malicious spirit and a kind spirit just by the energy its giving off. PRACTICE, Keep growing your skills.

INTERACTING WITH SPIRITS

Communicating and meeting with local spirits is the easiest way to start off.

A lot of people start off with nature spirits, they are much more patient than other beings. I suggest sitting in a forest or by a creek and seeing who wants to talk, but sitting on your back porch with your plants can be equally as successful. I didn’t start with nature spirits specifically, but they likely were the ones who came thru. Very patient and kind, even noting that my dog (who was wanting to come outside with me, but my patios very small and she’s very big) was being loud.

I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO TALK ABOUT!!

Don’t worry, Here are all the ideas. Its nice to let the spirit share experiences with you, Keep in mind spirits have been around for a very long time, some since the beginning of time, and have experienced many things. I’ve heard some very cool stories.

Let me hear a love story

Show me a song from your people

Tell me something you’ve done that you are proud of

Tell me a little about your culture

Tell me your story

Do you have any jokes you can share with me?

What is your advice for me?

Who is the your peoples leader?(this can help you distinguish a timeline on when they were alive/where as well)

Is there anything about Human Culture you have questions about?

Do you speak more than one language?

SPIRIT WORK TIPS

Don’t give out the name that is the most important to you.

The ‘color’ of an energy doesn’t mean it will align with your own color meanings.

Don’t share how you’re protecting yourself, It is not wise and can help malicious spirits find points of weakness.

Don’t expect to hear voices or see spirits clear as day. The stories told on tumblr may be embellished to add understanding, or might receive messages in a less clear way than presented

If you ever feel threatened by a spirits energy or sense a negative spirit, Tell it to leave loudly and clearly. Do not show fear, Do not back down. Repeat and increase your intensity if it doesn’t stop.

This post is all based on my opinion of spirit work, and is not fact. I love spirits and spirit work so much, and i hope you do as well. Enjoy the spirits, Make some new friends! Love & Light, @lapiscat

A guide for safely contacting the spirit world.

Friendly reminder that on this Samhain if you plan to contact spirits, please PLEASE do it safely!

Set up a special place before you get started, make sure you will be uninterrupted while doing your work if possible. I know sometimes it’s hard to work that out for some. I personally have two children and I have to wait till they are asleep to do this kind of work.

Protect yourself, reenforce any protections you may already have, not just on you but on your space as well. Make sure you’re grounded and prepared for the work you’re going to do.

RESEARCH! DO NOT GO IN UNPREPARED! Guys seriously don’t just decided half assed that you’re going to speak with the dead or spirits because you see others doing it. Know what you are going to do. Research rituals, spells, sigils, whatever and make a plan. Stick with the plan, being prepared and having knowledge is honestly your most powerful tools in the Craft.

Tools, be familiar with the tools you plan to use. I am most familiar and connected to my pendulum so he is what I use the most, second is cards and candles I use all three together but I use my pendulum for the main communication, if I need help that he can’t give I use my tarot cards and candles with him. It is important to be familiar and know your tools so that you know when something isn’t right. Spirits can be tricky and your best defense of knowing what’s truth and lie is knowing your tools and how they typically respond to you.

Don’t go in being open to just any spirit that’s willing to talk to you if you’re not experienced. You need to have an idea of who you want to speak with, this comes back to being prepared and knowledge.

If it gets weird or scary don’t just stop. You need to be firm and say goodbye and end any spell you were doing, blow your candles out and close your circle and ground yourself. Take notes of what happened for later. Do not just leave this situation, be firm about disconnecting with the spirit and ending what you are doing.

Don’t get discouraged if things don’t go right or you don’t make contact it happens and Samhain isn’t the only time you can contact them. You can always try again.

If you don’t feel that you are prepared enough or comfortable with contacting the spirit world yourself there are plenty of spirit workers, mediums, witches, Oracles ect that you can contact to do it for you.

If your blog is open for spirit work paid or free reblog this so people will know they can contact you as a safe alternative to going it alone and unprepared. I ask that if you reblog for that reason you note if you’re paid or free please. 🧡🖤

Stay safe, stay witchy, have a blessed and happy Samhain! 🎃🖤🧡

Glamour Magick

Glamour Magick

What is glamour?

Simply put, Glamour is an illusion.

Is glamour real? Can it really change my appearance?

Yes, glamour is real! No, it cannot change your appearance. It is used more so to embody traits & gain confidence. It alters your aura, therefore altering the way you may be seen/perceived.

How do I use glamour magick?

Typically, glamour is intertwined with your “getting ready” routine. Think of glamour spells as a pretty coat you put on before leaving your house, or a pretty pin in your hair that makes you feel beautiful. Its one of the types of magick that we can use to transform mundane activities into enchanting activities. Here are some examples of intentions:

-be kind, appear softer, appear stronger, gain confidence, to look powerful, be sexy, speak with confidence in front of a crowd, be focused, etc.

i do not recommend using glamour for any of the following: make _____ love me, to banish or hex, to get a job, to get money.

remember that glamour is about giving you that extra boost to achieve your intention. its like a crutch, use it to enhance your aura… for example: instead of “making ___ fall for you” you can use glamour to exude a sexy and confident energy, which will likely draw him into you by highlighting your best qualities. instead of “getting a job” you can use glamour to help you come across as professional, powerful, and focused which will likely result in gaining respect from your interviewer and leaving you on their mind for the position.

How to cast glamours

Most glamours are very simple, and you likely have the tools you may need already. Simply

1. pick your intention  2. choose what tools/methods will work the best for your needs 3.Write your spell down 4.cast it!

Ex. 1. I want to appear to be softer. 2. I decide i am going to enchant my perfume by drawing a sigil on the bottom of the bottle in pink sharpie, and charge it with a short incantation. 3. Draw up your sigil, and write/find an incantation that sits with you well and helps your energy flow. You can sing a song as well, whatever gets that flow going. 4. Cleanse & Do the damn thing!

Here are some glamours to refer to if you aren’t comfortable creating your own yet:

Witch Tips: Lavender

Witch Tips: Lavender

*if you are allergic to lavender, read my post on substitutes*

~ What is Lavender?

Lavender is a part of the mint family, native to the Mediterranean region, and parts of Africa and India. This purple herb carries a very fragrant scent.

~ Planting and Harvesting your Lavender

Plant your Lavender in a warm, sunny spot that is shielded from harsh winds. Lavender can take heat and occasional drought. Make sure it’s planted in a pot that is at least 1-2 inches bigger than the root ball and has a hole for drainage. Water when the soil feels dry, and try your best to not get the leaves wet.

Harvest your lavender plant when the buds are just beginning to open. Cut them into long stems and bundle them up and hang them upside down to dry. *To learn more about drying out herbs, read my post here*

~ Magickal Uses of Lavender

Lavender can be used in spells for protection, enhancing psychic abilities, encouraging love and fertility, and to promote peace. Burn it in a bundle to invite spirits or promote dreams.

~ Healing Uses of Lavender

Lavender’s fragrance is very relaxing and peaceful, which makes it an amazing herb for individuals dealing with depression and/or anxiety. Put a washcloth with lavender oil on it in your pillowcase before bed. This will promote restful sleep.

~ Culinary Uses of Lavender

If you ever make a dessert to use in a spell for love or fertility, sprinkle a little bit of edible lavender on top.

You can use lavender extract to make delicacies!

Lavender sugar; put lavender in a jar with sugar in a shaded place for about a month. Enjoy!

I hope this is useful! xx ~ @chlovoyant

Simple Ways To Connect With Nature

Simple Ways to Connect with Nature

Nature is my best friend, and often I feel disconnected from it. It’s important to ground yourself with nature, and feel one with it. Nature is the foundation of our lives, holding so much positive energy. You can easily harness this energy in many ways! So if you’re busy or just simply lazy, but would like to connect with nature, try some of these quick and helpful tips! Remember, always be aware of your surroundings and be careful!

Make contact with the earth. Take a walk in the grass barefoot, hug a tree, plant something with your bare hands, meditate on the dirt.

Have indoor plants. Not only do they freshen the air around you, but each plant brings it own unique benefits as well, such as mood boosters.

Open your window and blinds.  Breathe in the fresh air and take in your outdoor surroundings.

If possible, do what you do indoors, outdoors! Even if you’re just sitting on a patio, you can still enjoy the benefits of the outdoors while doing what you need to do.

Collect outdoor elements. Often I see witches decorate their altar with outdoor elements. This is a simple and effective way to better your connection with nature.

I hope you find this useful! xx ~ @chlovoyant

Witch Bottles? Witch Bottles! - Explained.

Witch bottles traditionally act as what can be described as ‘decoys’ for malevolent or baneful spirits and energies. This includes curses, hexes and jinxes - it includes anything and everything that seeks to ruin that good streak you’ve got goin’ on.

Historically, witch bottles included items such as rusted nails, thorns and wine (yep, you read it right: people used to stick wine in bottles to never be consumed!), and almost always include an item of your physical being, such as a lock of hair, a little bit of spit or blood or semen, etc,… you catch my drift here, right?

**IMPORTANT: if and when you draw blood, don’t just wing it. Use hygienic and sterilized equipment to prevent infection!

When creating a witch bottle of this ilk, your main goal is entrapment so personalize to your heart’s content.

Witch Bottles? Witch Bottles! - Explained.

Nowadays, we have witch bottles for protection, entrapment, cursing and myriad other things, but typically they all follow the same basic method of construction (for lack of a better word) as traditional witch bottles, which goes as follows:

For protection against baneful energies and the entrapment of them, some ingredients may include the following:

A item of your physical being

Sea salt

Needles/pins/nails

Broken glass

Sage

Garlic

Blood or wine

A sigil written on paper or the ashes of a burnt sigil

A tangle of black thread

Basil

Cayenne Pepper

If you’re creating a protection bottle, you may want to include protective herbs, (such as Rosemary, St. John’s Wort, Pennyroyal or Mandrake root) and small crystals, like amethyst and quartz, in place of the… angry-ish content of the negativity-trapping bottle.

Next, you put all of your ingredients into your chosen bottle which can be made of glass, clay, metal or ceramics, and seal it as tightly as possible with a lid or stopper (cork). Now, shake! If the mood takes you, fill the bottle with whatever thoughts and feelings fit the intent for a little extra oomph.

Now you must take a candle that again, corresponds with the intent of the bottle. Black for protection (for me!), - but each witch has their own colour correspondences, remember - and drop the hot wax over the lid/stopper of your witch bottle. Before you play with hot wax, set some paper down underneath your bottle to protect whatever surface you’re working on and please, please take care not to let the wax touch your skin whilst it’s hot!

Traditionally, again, ceramic witch bottles were burnt or placed in a fire or hearth and the ashes/remains then buried somewhere on the witches’ property. Nowadays this isn’t always an option, and many of us choose to use glass bottles or jars. In this instance, you can run the jar/bottle through the smoke of an incense that befits yours needs and wants, and then leave the witch bottle somewhere dark/somewhere it won’t be disturbed.

Making an Altar Master Post

image

Considering making an altar but don’t know where to start? This long-ass post should cover all the bases of altar building for those of you who are interested but stuck. This post is pretty vague on purpose, altars are an interesting grey area of this practice. When you build an altar you can’t really go wrong, it’s something for you to take control of and decide for yourself.

📖This is all taken from my grimoire so feel free to add any info of your own in a rb or in the comments.📖

🌻What is an altar?🌻

Altars are a magical work space for any witch/pagan/wiccan/other.

Historically altars and shrines were built all over the world in different cultures to house offerings and worship the gods/spirits/ancestors.

The difference between an altar and shrine can depend on the culture you’re looking at but generally an altar is both a work space and a place of worship and a shrine is solely a place of worship (the Theatron of Athens was an altar as it served as a place to house offerings and a communal performance space).

Modern day altars however are more private and unique to the practitioner/s. Altars and shrines can now be created using anything and include many different types.

There are many ways to think outside the box with altar building but don’t think you have to make one just because every other witch does.

🌻Types of altars🌻 (not an inclusive list)

- Home/family altar🏠: This serves as the energy centre of the home that is shared by the entire family. It can be simplistic, change with the seasons, and feature something representing each family member. (this is one that my dad built that lives in our kitchen).

image

- Personal altar: This altar is usually only connected to 1 or 2 people and kept separate from the rest of the family in a bedroom/box/draw. It can be put anywhere and be of any size (mine used to be on a shelf in my wardrobe and now it sits on the window) This altar is very personal to the practitioner often representing their passions and/or their patron. (this is my own to Dionysus and Apollo but it also includes my desk and bookshelf next to it since the window is so small).

image

- Working Altar: This altar is very practical. It’s only taken out when it’s needed for spells/rituals and is unique to the spell and it’s intention. If you want this type of altar then when you build it think carefully of what corresponds to the outcome you wish for.

- Shrine: (a form of altar to some, completely separate to other but I’m including it just in case). Created to honour a specific deity/creature/spirit. This is used to house offerings and pray.

-Travel/mini altar: Often stored away in a box/tin. Travel/mini altars can consist of small trinkets to carry around when you’re away from your larger altar or have to conceal your magic (it’s great for witches in the broom closet but depending on the size it could go missing).

- Image altar📷: Less traditional but very creative. An image altar could be a collection of images on Photoshop (for techies), a collage of pictures on a wall or board, or even a drawing of an altar (It’s personal, inconspicuous and it doesn’t matter if you can draw or not). I made this one in my sketchbook using pencil, ink and watercolour.

Making An Altar Master Post

- Love/self care altar❤: This altar is fully dedicated to self care, loving yourself, or introspection. It includes things that have a lot of meaning to you and make you happy when you’re down (I have one by my bedside and use it when I feel shitty, I also use this space to contact my spirit guide).

image

🌻Supplies🌻 (again not an inclusive list)

These are some general supplies to have for an altar but this doesn’t mean that anything is 100% necessary.

- A flat surface: This can be anywhere with enough space to display everything.

- A cloth: Not just to protect the surface or fragile objects, it can be a sign of respect to your patron.

- Incense/oil diffuser: To smell nice and can be used to cleanse the space.

- Candles: Decoration, to represent fire or your patron, for candle magic, and meditation.

- Bowl/dish: To hold any offerings.

- Cup/chalice/bottles: For drink offerings, to represent water, to hold water for a spell.

- Matches/lighters: If you include candles.

- Crystals/stones: Decoration, could also be elemental/seasonal/represent the chakra.

- Wand/athame: Can be used to direct energy in a spell.

- Bell: To represent air, to call spirits/your patron.

- Mortar & Pestle: To grind up any ingredients in a spell.

🌻Building an Altar🌻

This is part is going to be a simple guide to building a personal altar (I will be using my own preference for deities as an example but you don’t have to).

1- Find a space: Think about where you want to work and consider the energy you get from different spaces (also consider any pets and fragile objects).

2- Find a surface: This can be as big as you like. I’ll be using my art desk as an example, I took everything off it and cleaned it before I did anything else.

image

3- Get a cloth: Fabric from a craft shop or an old scarf/veil are perfect and come in any available colour and size. In terms of colour you can chose one of your favourites, something seasonal or something to represent your patron.

image

4- Set your intention: Now this is the time to decide what your altar is going to be used for. You can pick a centre piece that reflects this.

I wanted to connect with the gods so I made the centre of the altar about myself and my deities go on either side. The centre piece I chose is a picture of a fairy scene I’ve had for a very long time.

image

5- Candles: The next thing to put down are candles (or any source of light). The light acts as the switch to turn on your altar and give light to any patron for when you want to communicate.

image

6- Tools: If you want to include any tools from the previous list then now is the time to chose where you want to put them (I included a cup of water, an incense holder, a bell, and a wand).

image

7- Decoration: Next is to add any personal decoration that can go wherever you like. I put mine in the centre piece.

image

8- (OPTIONAL) Representing patrons: This step is optional because it isn’t necessary to have a patron in your practice.

Because of the intention I decided on in step 4, I places the decoration representing my patrons on either side of my altar (btw these photos were before I switched from Aphrodite to Apollo so I apologies for the inconsistency).

image

I left a large space empty to use for when i’m writing in my grimoire, performing a spell or doing a tarot reading. I didn’t include this in my real altar because it’s a decorative section.

🌻Tips🌻

- There are templates that you can follow if you really want to. They’re usually for a large traditional elemental altar though (I personally don’t recommend them because it’s boring and not very creative).

- An altar can be as big or as small as you like and you have no rules or expectations and it doesn’t have to be just one surface.

- If you want an altar for a spirit/deity/fae as well as their respective candle, you could include a candle for yourself to represent your own spirit to stay connected with them.

- An altar is a very subjective thing, if it’s personal it should change with your interests (like from light and fire the first year to sea and sand the next year).

It’s okay to not “dress like a witch”,  you are a witch, so you are dressed like one!

Sometimes spells don’t work, don’t get flustered, try again!

Not everybody in the community is nice and welcoming, hold your ground.

Find what path suits YOU, not your peers.

Witchcraft is customisable to fit YOUR needs.

Cursing is NOT a bad thing!

Respect closed cultures always.

You don’t have to be religious.

Witchcraft and Wicca are NOT synonymous! Witchcraft is a secular practice, Wicca is a religion completely unrelated.

Remember to ground and cleanse every once and a while.

Thank your tools occasionally.

Witchcraft is not the solution to all of your problems.

Ingesting herbs can be dangerous at times, be careful. Especially if you take medication!

You will not be able to control people, read minds, levitate, or use telekinesis. Those are all movie magic.

Take everything with a large grain of salt.

Read as much as you can, even the “bad” (cough silver ravenwolf) books, you can learn what not to do that way.

Avoid Silver Ravenwolf unless just reading for the meme.

You don’t have to keep up an edgy “witch” aesthetic, just be you!

There tends to be a lot of drama surrounding the witch community in particular, stay out of it.

STAY AWAY FROM PAGANSUNCENSORED.

You don’t have to do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.

Covens are NOT mandatory.

There is no special ‘initiation’ to become a witch, you want to identify as a witch? You’re a witch! Just like magic.

Be careful of who you trust, just like any other community there are bad eggs who will try to hurt you.

You don’t have to use divination to be a witch!

You don’t have to tell people you practice until you feel safe doing so, don’t feel rushed.

RESEARCH, CROSS CHECK, THEN CHECK AGAIN! Never believe one source.

Shielding and protection are important.

Casting a circle is not necessary, it is a preference.

People who have been practicing for longer than you will sometimes try to belittle you, do not believe them. You are just as much a witch as someone who has been practicing 20+ years, you’re just newer.

DON’T LICK UNKNOWN ROCKS. Seriously, you could die.

Using a ouija board is not going to summon a demon, but take the same precautions you would with any spirit work.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help, or ask someone to teach you something.

Remember that you don’t have to be ONE type of witch, you can practice forty different types of witchcraft at one time if you want!

Charging your crystals gives them an extra boost and aids in magic.

If you don’t want to use the title “witch”, you don’t have to. There are many, MANY other ways to say you like a little magic in your cereal.

There are many ways to practice in secret, but make sure you’re safe in doing so.

Burying jars is awful for the environment. Find biodegradable things to use instead!

Be careful if collecting graveyard dirt (or anything from a graveyard) - you can get into some pretty extensive trouble.

Be cautious about using rusty nails. Always wear gloves.

Basic fire safety goes a LONG way.

Your own intuition is one of your biggest tools, learn to use it well.

Learn at your own speed!

Don’t use witchcraft in place of medical/psychiatric professional assistance.

Working with Fae can be dangerous, make sure you know what you’re doing.

Research before doing something, common sense right?

Familiars will not always be your pets, unfortunately.

Working with spirits can be dangerous, take necessary precautions.

Lemon water is probably the easiest way to cleanse, just be careful around crystals.

You are valid as a witch, no matter if you’ve been practicing 20 minutes or 20+ years. You are awesome.

You’ve Probably Heard Of Runes And You’ve Probably Seen Them Throughout Popular Culture Media, -

You’ve probably heard of runes and you’ve probably seen them throughout popular culture media, - they’re often used in fantasy based television shows and films. It is likely that the runes you have seen are Elder Futhark Runes (old Norse ones - we’ll cover that later) but the ones featured in this post, are Witches Runes. They’re often inscribed on stones or used in rituals.

Crossroads: use if you’re going through a change, have decisions to make or wish to bring about change.

Man: use in magick that deals with men (naturally!), masculinity, or (if you’re religious) the strength of your God(s).

Woman: use in magick that deals (again, naturally!) with women, femininity, or to invoke any Goddesses you have.

The Eye: use in psychic workings or dealings with truth; to reveal deception, for example. Used also in/for protection.

Harvest: use for prosperity and abundance magick, dealings with money or to attract something good to your life.

The Sun: use for growth and happiness, strength and masculinity and for invoking any deities that are associated with the Sun. Use also in protection magick and on Sabbats.

The Moon: femininity and magick. It enhances power and is used in the invocation of deities associated with the Moon and during Esbats.

Flight: higher knowledge and the attraction of something new; success and business ventures - brings about new opportunities.

The Rings: used for binding and attracting new love; it strengthens existing bonds.

Romance: naturally, this attracts new love and/or romance. Used in sex and fertility magick and heals broken hearts.

The Scythe: used to break curses and hexes; removes bad luck and influences and can be used to break or weaken bonds and relationships.

The Star: a wishing rune that, when meditated on, brings about good fortune and good luck.

Waves: symbolizes purity and can be used for forgiveness and healing, as well as the expulsion of bad and negative energies.

Basic Tools Of The Craft

Basic Tools of the Craft

There are tools that are essential to every religion. And they are usually ceremonial tools that aid in a practitioner’s spiritual journey. Buddhists have their bells, while Christians have their cross. While not a requirement to each one practicing a religion, having the tools strengthen your dedication.

Witchcraft has a wide range of tools, and most are usually those that are placed on an altar, and each almost always represents an element.

What you decide to procure will really depend on your beliefs and what you are comfortable with. It is also important to know that your tools should be treated with respect and reverence since each represents a divine element.

Here are just some of the tools a witch could have at his or her person or altar:

THE ATHAME An Athame is a dagger traditionally with a black handle that is used to cast a circle. It should never be used for cutting or to cause physical harm. The athame represents masculine energy and the element of fire.

THE CHALICE The chalice witches use can come in a goblet styles, or simply any mug and cup, and is used to hold water or wine, which is to be drank after a ritual. The chalice on your altar also represents the element of water.

THE WAND The wand that you use can come in any material that you feel a connection to: wood, bone, or metal. A witch’s wand is very personal, so much so that many Wiccans prefer to fashion themselves their own wand that suits their taste and represents their personality or character. Another option is to buy a Magic Wand. The wand is used to direct energies during a ritual, and represents the element of air.

THE PENTACLE The pentacle is a very powerful and protective symbol in Wicca. On an altar, it can come in the form of either a pendant or a platen. The pentacle represents earth, and is used to cleanse yourself, your surroundings, and all other items on your altar.

You can also use a Pentacle necklace on your altar.

THE CAULDRON Like the chalice, the cauldron represents the element of water. A cauldron can hold many things like water, herbs, incense, and candles, and is very useful when it comes to rituals involving burning and creating small fires. The preferred material for the pot-bellied cauldrons is cast iron. This is mainly due to the fact that cast iron cauldrons can take the heat and don’t crack under high temperatures.

THE BELLS Bells are used to mark passages in a ritual. Try taking a look at spells, you’ll notice most require you to ring a bell once or twice, and also ask you to ring your bell to mark the beginning and the end of a ritual.

THE CANDLES Candles represent the element of fire. A pair of candles also symbolizes the God and the Goddess.

THE BOWLS Having a bowl on your altar represents the element of earth. A bowl can hold water, sea salt, and oils. It is important to have a bowl that can hold sea salt, since a small bowl of sea salt on your altar can cleanse your other tools for magick, and also any possession you have that you feel is holding negative energy.

Smudging bowls are essential for magickal working.

INCENSE

Incense symbolizes the element of air. It is used to clear energy, cleanse, and call in energies.

THE CRYSTALS Each crystal holds a different energy. Crystals enhance the power of your spells, and keeping a variety of crystals on your altar will help you in various rituals.

THE BROOM A broom is very symbolic of sweeping energy and keeping negative and unwanted energies out of your space.

There are so many more tools in Witchcraft that you can use to enhance your spiritual journey and your magickal workings. What I mentioned are just the essentials, and you can add to them as you progress in your journey.

Before you begin using each tool, it is important that you clear and cleanse it. And make sure that you treat each with respect and care, as it represents a divine element. Some witches, including myself, don’t allow others to touch their tools and crystals and supplies to prevent any unwanted energy from absorbing into these things. You can make the choice yourself for your items obviously, but keep in mind that you should keep your tools and supplies full of light energies!

Some Sigil Basics

Ok so let me just start by saying this is some VERY beginner stuff that a close witchy friend gave me and I figured I would put it here to share with the world!

Begin with a simple phrase

I’m going to use the phrase “I am safe and protected” because it is a little more complex

Take out all the vowels

In the instance of this phrase we are then left with “m sf nd prtctd”

Take out duplicate letters

That will leave us with “m sf nd prtc”

Match the alphabet to letters…

There is no other way to describe this than with a picture…

Some Sigil Basics

Match the letters to numbers

So “msfndprtc” = 416547923

Match the numbers together with lines on your circle

So another picture is… my only form of help!

Some Sigil Basics
Some Sigil Basics

Your sigil is finished!!!

So this is what mine looked like when I was totally done adding my flourish to it!

Some Sigil Basics

So this is… how it’s done? I know I probably did a TERRIBLE job at explaining this but I am willing to help anyone who has any questions!!!

Offering Stones

Offering Stones

Hello, there is a post on tumblr here that shows you how to make offering stones. They are beautiful! But additional reblogging of the post included mentions that baking soda is not safe for nature. So I tried to come up with a different type of offering stone that isn’t harmful. I attempted several experiments before I finally remembered making gingerbread ornaments as a kid that were not edible. The recipe I have for you is simple, completely environmentally safe and it will not mold over time.

Cinnamon Offering Stone Recipe:

¾ cup of applesauce

4 ounces of Cinnamon (about two jars from a grocery store)

Put the applesauce in a bowl and slowly mix in the cinnamon a little at a time. It will eventually start to thicken and ball up into a dough that you can form with your hands.

I added some herbs and flowers that I have dried myself just for an extra touch (although the cinnamon stones are a sufficient offering themselves) Pictured are thyme, rosemary, peppermint, roses, sage (leaf and flower).

Preheat your oven to 200° (fahrenheit) and bake them for 2 hours.

It’s up to you what size/shape you make them, so get creative! I made mine smaller (an inch to inch and a half) and made circular and heart shapes. I was able to get 33 cinnamon stones. (Added tip:  if you have a spot in your grocery store where you can buy “bulk” spices and measure your own, I suggest getting the cinnamon there. I was able to get 4 oz for about $3.15 which I know is cheaper than if I had purchased two jars of it.)

I am so glad these turned out this wonderfully! It really bummed me out when I found out the other recipe was no good. I wanted something that I could give back to nature if I take something (such as a rock or herb). You can leave these as a thank you or you can also offer these to a god or goddess.

The most important thing is that these are totally safe for the environment!

moon phases.

image

new moon: setting intentions. active energy.

waxing crescent moon: resting, focusing. passive energy.

first quarter moon: taking action. active energy.

waxing gibbous moon: trusting, holding faith. passive energy.

full moon: acknowledging. active energy.

waning gibbous moon/disseminating moon:  receiving, expressing gratitude. passive energy.

last quarter moon: returning, giving thanks. active energy.

waning crescent moon/balsamic moon: reflecting, resting, restoring. passive energy.

new moon: the moon is literally new. a rebirth. use this moon for intentions to do with fresh beginnings, starting again, cleansing.

waxing moons: the moon is increasing its size, it is opening; use these moons for intentions about gaining, growing or expanding.

full moon: the moon is at full charge, and can be the most powerful phase in the moon cycle. use this moon for intentions to do with power, clarity, or psychic ability.

waning moons: the moon is decreasing its size, it is closing; use these moons for intentions about ridding yourself of something (or someone), or purging.

application to the craft:

focus is the most important aspect of bringing an intent to manifest itself. focusing your energy can be made simpler by working with a compatible energy in the world as you focus that intent.

if the world around you is releasing an energy complementary to yours, it can be easier for that energy to find its way into reality; as opposed to facing any natural adversity.

cast passive energy intents in passive phases of the moon. (tranquility, creativity)

cast active energy intents in active phases of the moon. (strength, control)

this, in my opinion, is the concept of “the power of thought.” when more than one person thinks a thought, that thought holds more weight. this could explain why people practicing or praying together can often yield stronger, or more immediate results. it is a similar reasoning as incorporating tools and ritual into magick, as well.

your energy is a power in itself. but using the power of the elements, the environments, and the world can serve to add to that power.

CIRCLE CASTING 101

CIRCLE CASTING 101

A magickal circle is an energetic construct that you build or envision around yourself before working magick, doing a ritual, some like to cast a circle before meditating or reading tarots. For a solitary practitioner the circle is typically 5-6 ft in diameter, but the size expands based on the size of the group. It can be defined physically, energetically, or both.

Circles provide protection and serves as a container for your personal energy as well as the energy you conjure.

Please remember that this is just what i personally like to do when casting a circle, but that there are many methods.

Preparation for circle casting

1. Determine how much space you will need.

2. Cleanse your area. Vacuum, sweep, throw away any trash in the area.

3.Make sure you have everything you need for your ritual! Theres nothing more frustrating than having your circle casted and realizing you’ve forgotten an herb or any supplies you need for the work you’re about to do.

4. Purify your area. Light purifying incense, sage, sprinkle salt and holy 💧. Most importantly, Visualize the negative energy dispersing. If you don’t focus & visualize, your physical actions will have little effect. Visualization is hands down one of the most important things in any and all magickal workings!

5. Now its time to cast your circle!

Visualize protective energy coming from within you and direct it towards your casting arm. Focus it through a casting tool (Athame, wand, or ✋)  and visualize a beam of energy coming from it and settling on the ground. Trace your circle with this energy, 3 times in a clockwise direction. Once for protection, once for focus, and once for power.

Call the 4 quarters

Face North and say “I call to the North, to the element of Earth. Grant me (us if not practicing alone) your endurance, your strength.”                                  Sprinkle salt onto your altar or crumble soil into a bowl on your altar.

Face East and say “I call to the East, to the element of Air. Grant me your creativity and your intuition.”                                                                             Light incense, wave a fan,or drop feathers onto your altar.

Face south and say “I call to the South, to the element of Fire. Grant me your passion and your energy.”                                                                                 Light candles.

Face west and say “I call to the West, to the element of Water. Grant me your empathy and your emotion.”                                                                              Pour blessed/storm/moon/natural water into a bowl or into your chalice.

Now would be the time to call on any deities you’d wish to work with. You can call any Goddess or Angel by personalizing this to them. I typically do not personally work with deities, but if you were to want to, Call to them similar to how the Elements are called. Ex. “I call to Gaia, Mother Goddess, Spirit of Earth.” and then place an offering symbolizing them, so for Gaia you might place  grain on your altar as an offering.

If not solitary, now would be the time to invite others to the circle. The group leader typically invites others in by a series of phrases, although i know every coven has their own method fine tuned for themselves, This is just the method i’ve seen used and am familiar with.                                                                    Group leader:”Children of the Goddess, I now invite you to enter our circle.” Each member will be asked “How do you enter this circle?” The response should be “In perfect love and perfect trust.”

Now its time to raise energy. This is the most important part of this process. It is so important because when you open your circle at the end of spellwork, You release all of your energy you have filled with intent out into the universe to go manifest whatever it may be you have called to. You want as much energy as possible to be released carrying your intent!

Here are a few ways! There is no wrong way to do this part, and there are SO MANY ways. You can fine tune this all to you. Remember that this is your ritual, and you want your energy fully behind everything you are doing. This is all customizable, most of all the energy raising.

-Witches Rune Chant

“Darksome night and shining Moon,

East, then South, then West, then North,

Hearken to the witches’ rune;

Here i come to call thee forth.

Earth and Water, Air and Fire.

Wand and pentacle and sword,

Work ye unto my desire,

Hearken ye into my word.

Cords and censer, scourge and knife,

Power of the witches blade waken all ye unto life,

Come ye as the charm is made.

Queen of Heaven, Queen of Hell, Lend your power unto my spell,

and work my will by magic rite.

By all the power of Land and Sea, By all the might of Moon and Sun,

As I do will, So mote it be;

Chant the spell, and be it done.

Eko, Eko Azarak

Eko, Eko Zamilak

Eko, Eko Karnayna

Eko, Eko Aradia”

-Meditating to raise energy. Visualize energy building and building by visualizing warm, yellow light fill your body until its expanding out of your body and filling the dome above your circle. visualize it filling with energy until you are content.

-Music or Drumming, Dancing and Chanting.

Once you reach your desired energy level, it is time to get into whatever spellwork or ritual you desire to preform!

After your spellwork, its time for Cakes and Ale. I like to make little spirit cakes and have some red wine after a ritual. Expelling all of that energy from your body is draining, and you should take your time to enjoy this part of the ritual. Set a cake and some wine aside for the entities who have lent you their energy as thanks. Cakes can be anything, from saltine crackers to cupcakes. Ale can be water. Anything that works for you is ok. For my cakes, i bake a shortbread and mix whatever ingredients i want into the dough. This way, I can craft them with the intent for whatever ritual i may be doing.

ONCE YOU FINISH YOUR WORK SAY GOODBYE TO THE ELEMENTS AND THANK THEM FOR THE POWER THEY BROUGHT. ALWAYS SAY GOODBYE AND THANK ANY DEITIES CALLED ON.

HERE IS HOW I DO IT:

-Farewell to Goddess. ex. “I thank you, Gaia, for gracing me with your glory. Farewell and Merry met.”

-Farewell to Quarters (Counterclockwise).

“My thanks to the element of Water, Your compassion was a gift. Farewell & Blessed be.” Now cover your dish of water or pour it out, Physically say goodbye as well.

“My thanks to the element of Fire, Your fierceness was a gift. Farewell & Blessed be.” Douse your candle.

“My thanks to the element of Air, Your wisdom was a gift. Farewell & Blessed be.” Douse incense/flip fan/turn over feather.

“My thanks to the element of Earth, Your protection was a gift. Farewell & Blessed be.” Cover earth with a cloth, or return it to ground.

I like to walk the circle the opposite way of its casting three times, and voila!

Keep in mind that this is just my method! There are many methods and this is just one of them.

I hope this is helpful to you!

The basics of Beginning

Being a new witch is terrifying.

Some of us start early and don’t realize it until much later.

We where the little children that dug up worms and gathered flowers and collected nice rocks and that read to many books and didn’t belive a single word we read in the Bible (This last thing is a personal statement and experience). And then with sixteen, eighteen, twenty, twenty-five we rediscover magic as a part of our lives.

Some of us don’t start untill we think that it is already to late to start with something new.

We have been doing the same practice for over a decade and it never felt quite right. We have a start-stop relationship with magic. We think it might just not be for us at all.

But now we want to start again from the very beginning and do it right this time.

Maybe you recognize yourself in those statements? Or meybe not.

Whether the above stated fits you down to the blood or not at all. A fact is that you want to be a witch.

You want to practice magic. You want to walk the croocked path. You want it with all your soul. Right?

When you are at this point of knowing that you want to be a witch but not knowing how to be a witch then the internet is your best friend and your worst enemy.

Everyone has their own opinion, their own instructions, their own rules. And none of them feel entirely right.

Don’t curse, curse all you like. Use crystals, use wands, use this, use that. Have an altar, have a garden, have a cat/toad/bird.

But few people ever tell you to start with what you have. To do what feels right for you. To use what is at hand.

The Basics Of Beginning

Ask yourself: what do I have?

Can I practice openly?

Do I want an altar?

Do I care about any gods? Do I want to worship any gods?

Do I want to use … in my craft?

Is this really what I want to work with or who I want to work with?

Do I really believe this/that will work?

Ask yourself these questions and more! Question everything. Only use in your craft what feels right to you.

Write it down in your diary, your book of shadows, your grimoire, your whatever. Just write it down.

Write: This is awesome! I love it! It works so well for me! I’ll incorporate it into my craft from now on! Have to learn more! Research! Research! Research!

Or: That was terrible! Never again! Not my thing! Oh hell to the no! Nope! Nope! Nope!

Experiment. Fail. Try something else.

Be ready for the failure. Not everything is going to work for you. It doesn’t matter if it works for every other person on the planet, if it doesn’t work for you it doesn’t work for you.

Not everything is going to be available to you either.

You shouldn’t try to force your way into something that’s not meant to be for you. That doesn’t mean you have to be dense about it tho.

Knowledge is attainable. Talent or The Right to something is not.

(Be respectful please. Some aspects of a closed practice or religion should not be used unless you are a part of it)

The Basics Of Beginning

Also be ready for the Argument™.

Some people will tell you that everything you do is wrong and that the only way to do it right is to do it their way or not at all.

This can be discouraging especially if you are just starting out.

Always remember that people that say things like that aren’t relevant or important.

They don’t want to help you, they just want to be right about something for once in their life.

The Basics Of Beginning

The point of this post is to tell you that you don’t need a garden full of herbs if you can’t have one. That you don’t need a wand if you can’t make one. That you don’t need 30 different herbs or crystals if you can’t afford them. And that a pot will do just as good a job as any cauldron ever will.

Also:

My pointers for new witches as an overview

Work with what you have

Do what feels right

Use what feels right

Follow your own path

Be ready for failure

Be ready for the Argument ™

It’s never Your craft vs. Someone elses craft

Follow your star, or don’t

Your craft, your choice!

Now go out there and be a witch.

reminders for new witches

🗝 your path is your own. You do not have to force your craft to be like those of the witches you see or admire.

🗝 if you dont know what kind of witch to be, simply pursue whatever interests you. Subjects you are passionate about are the ones your magic will be strongest from.

🗝 unless you follow a specific tradition, there is no set of rules or requirements to witchcraft. There is more freedom and versatility in witchcraft than you think.

🗝 though you may want, you do not truly need anything, be it an altar, a deity to worship, tools of the craft or herbs. You alone are enough.

Tips For Beginner Witches

Tips for beginner witches

Where to start? This is the most common question i receive. I understand how overwhelming the craft can be! There are so many different components, and you can rest knowing your education will NEVER be complete. You will continue to learn new things all the time, and there is no rush to the order in which you learn! Cool down, and take some time to really fall into theory before jumping into practice. Its very important to read as much as you can, from as many sources as possible. Here are some of the many things you can research:

Crystals & their uses

Color correspondences

Different kinds of Magic

Different kinds of witches

Tools

Moon Phases

Planets/Celestial Bodies

Witch History

Herbs & their uses

Plants that are naturally abundant in your area that you can use in magick

Energy

Meditation and Visualisation

Astral Projection

Deities

Tarot cards and other forms of divination

Symbols (runes, sigils)

Theban alphabet

Incense and Oils

Animals and what they represent

Sabbats

Cleansing, charging and consecration of tools

making mundane things magical

There are so many more things, so feel free to add in anything I missed or that you personally find important.

Witchlings, please ask me any questions you may have as i am happy to answer to the best of my knowledge. I will be putting up more educational posts over the next few weeks, so please ask or message me if theres anything specific you’d like me to cover. I’ll more than likely have a post for each of the bullet points above.

Blessed be!

Familiars

Familiars

~ What is a Familiar?

A familiar is a physical or spiritual being in which you are spiritually connected to. They are an aid to witches; their companion and guardian. Familiars are said to be healers, protectors, and helpers. Traditionally, familiars are animals, but they can also be human-esque. Animals are often viewed as familiars because of their connection with the earth. And no, familiars don’t need to be your pet. They can be any animal you feel a spiritual connection to.

~ Brief History of Familiars

A witch’s familiar wasn’t viewed as evil until the beginning of The Middle Ages. They came to be thought of as demons and dark spirits, and were associated with the devil. They were sent by their witches to wreak havoc  because they weren’t easily detected and were fed blood. Every witch was believed to have a familiar, and close animal companions were often used as proof that the convicted was a witch.

~ How do I find my Familiar?

You can use spells to bring forth your familiar, or to provide clarity on what your familiar is.

Working with divination tools and asking them questions about your familiar are also great ways to help you find it.

Meditation is an amazing way to bring clarity about what your familiar is or is like. Take deep breaths and let your mind wander. Pay attention to creatures that approach you, their mannerisms, the way they communicate, and the way they respond. You may go through several beings, and may find out traits of your familiar through communicating with these beings.

You may not find one the first time, but that’s okay. If you truly believe you have a familiar, keep trying! Keep in mind, not everyone has one. Some witches even prefer working alone.

~ How do I know when I’ve found my Familiar?

There are many ways to know when you’ve found your familiar. Do they give you a boost? Do they follow you around? Do you trust them more than you trust anything else? If you answered yes to even one of those questions, then you might’ve found your familiar. They might take part in your rituals, be patient and aware while you are spell casting or doing spiritual work, hang around your magickal space, or be protective of you. They might be all of the above, and more!

~ How do I bond with my Familiar?

Most important thing I can say: respect your familiar! Your familiar will take this very highly into consideration. Give them the best life you can give them; the best food, best housing, clean conditions, positive energy, and lots of one on one time! Speak to them kindly, pet them, brush them, give them offerings, and reward them for their help. Make them a collar with protective crystals or crystals that hold your best energy. And overall, protect them, and make them feel safe. They will reciprocate whatever energy you give them, and then some.

~ How can my Familiar aid me and when?

Familiars are mostly known for how much they help their witch. They will aid you whenever they can with whatever they can, from connecting with nature to enhancing any psychic, spiritual, and divine abilities. Familiars will protect you, physically and spiritually, and be your emotional support. You can even invite them in to harness their energy for whatever you need them for.

~ Can I have multiple Familiars?

Of course! It is a common misconception that you can’t have multiple familiars, but you can! Remember, they don’t have to just be animals, and they definitely don’t have to just be cats, either.

~ Do you have a Familiar?

I do! My 3-year old, female tortoise shell cat, Kaya. I am beyond grateful that we found each other. She plays an important role in my everyday life, and has aided me in more ways than I thought possible. I love her with all my soul!

Witchy Tips: Meditation

Witchy Tips: Meditation

Meditation IS:

✔️ A way to improve your focus and concentration

✔️ An excellent way to ground yourself

✔️ A good way to raise energy

✔️ An effective calming exercise

✔️ A method of strengthening your empathetic abilities

Meditation is NOT:

🚫 Thinking of nothing

🚫 Clearing your mind completely

Things you need to meditate:

✔️ Yourself

That’s it. You don’t need candles or crystals or a mantra or a yoga mat or a special outfit or anything.

You don’t even need to be able to do the thing where you cross your legs with your feet up on your thighs. You can meditate lying down, sitting up, kneeling, regular cross legged, or even standing. Just so you’re not in a position where you’ll lose circulation, you’ll be fine.

Kinds of meditation

Yup, there’s kinds. Lots of kinds. Way too many to list in this post. Do your research, find a kind that works for your needs. Practice a bunch of different ones! The kind I recommend for a beginner is called Mindfulness Meditation.

Mindful meditation is about staying in the present moment, rather than ruminating on the past or worrying about the future. Like any kind of meditation, it improves your focus and concentration. It’s also been shown to increase your empathic connection with the world around you. Once you achieve a mindful state, you can move into any other kind of meditation you want.

The guide below is for mindful meditation.

How to Meditate

Go to a quiet place and find a comfortable position that you can keep up for a few minutes without getting sore or losing your balance.

Close your eyes and begin breathing steadily through your nose.

Focus on your breath as it moves through your nose. Try to follow it from moment to moment, rather than lingering on a past sensation or anticipating a future one. The breath is dynamic; it moves with you through time. Try to synchronize your focus with your breath so that they both exist in the present moment.

When you have a feeling, an emotion, or a thought, acknowledge it, accept it, and then go back to focusing on your breath.

If you find you have become distracted, bring back your focus by counting to 10: each odd number is an inhale, while evens are exhales.

Do not be discouraged if you become distracted often; meditation is not something that comes naturally: it has to be practiced. The present moment is hard to hang on to, because it requires not hanging on to anything. The present moment is always slipping by, and it will take practice to teach your mind to acknowledge and dismiss each moment rather than trying to linger. Try aiming for one minute of focused meditation, and increase the time little by little as your concentration improves.

Eventually, you’ll be able to meditate in noisy places, with your eyes open, using focus tools like candles or crystals, you can start employing visualization or mantras if you want; the sky is the limit. But before you can do any of that, you have to be able to concentrate. Simple quiet, eyes-closed meditation that focuses on the breath is a good way to get you there.

Happy meditating!

Beginner Witch Tips

WARNING: I am a sarcastic butthole and it shows through out this hot mess of a post. This is some random craft junk I have learned in my days of practicing witchcraft

Witch craft is not magic.

I don’t care what you have heard. Witchcraft is not magic. It can not turn your eyes different colors. It can not make you into a animal. You will not be able to control the weather or summon wind with your fingers. Ghosts will not do as you say. This is not Harry Potter. Case closed

Intent over tools

Do you think it’s gonna matter if you use a butter knife as an athame? Or you have to sub a white candle for another color because you don’t have the funds to buy that color? Or you had to leave out an ingredient because you don’t have it or you’re allergic? No, it’s not. Witchcraft (to me) is about mind over matter. If you are making an effort for your God/god/goddess/deity/elf/fae/etc it isn’t gonna matter what or how you got there, but the intent you had getting there

Cursing and hexing is up to you and your beliefs

Totally up to you if you believe that this is okay or not. However, if you don’t like this, do not go and tell someone else it’s wrong. If they ask you how you feel you can tell them it’s not your thing. If you do like this, do not go and tell someone else it’s fine and try to get them to accept it. If they ask you about it, you can tell them that you are into it

You do not have to have an alter

It’s up to you and your practice. And if you can where you are etc. If you want one and can not have one, draw one or, my favorite, Set up a pinterest board for your god/goddess/fae/elf/deity etc. and save things that you thing relate to them.

It’s not about fancy stuff

This goes back to intent over tools, as long as you are comfortable with what you are doing and using, do it and use it. I use salsa and yogurt containers, coffee filters taped together, M&M tubes, and envelopes to keep crap in. I use a 99¢ Wal-Mart bandanna to do spells on that I got from Girl Scout camp and it has rainbow peace signs all over it. Do I care? Nope. Does anyone else care or will they judge you? Nope. we are all in the same boat here.

Hand making things is way too underrated

I LOVE hand making things. Whether you are good or bad at it, it is a good way to save money, and personalize it just for you. Example: I made tarot cards out of printer paper that I cut out and wrote the card name, and definition of what it means (to me) and I love them. Pencil wand? Yas queen. DIY cauldron out of play-dough? Frick me u p daddy.

DONT EAT/SMOKE/DRINK SOMETHING YOU HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT

You’d think I would have to include this bUT Some things are okay to consume. Sometimes if taking a certain medicine you can’t consume that. Sometimes you are allergic to one thing, and in turn you will be allergic to that thing too. Sometimes you are pregnant and it’S HIGHLY DANGEROUS TO CONSUME THINGS WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT IT DOES

Never ignore professional medical advice and help in favor of witchcraft methods.

Case c l o s e d

Spirit workers

Not nice spirits can attach to people who have depression and anxiety more so than people who don’t

There are good and bad spirits. if one makes you feel comfomy, do not feel bad for asking it to leave/getting rid of it

Don’t ask your tarot cards every time you have a question

This happens a lot. Especially when you get a new deck and it’s so new and shiny and you can’t w a i t to get your grubby little hands on it and do crap >:D but you don’t want to get into the habbit of “ohgoshgollybatman I have to go to the store, okay let’s see if I’ll get hit by a car… oh and do I really need the applejuice..”  or “do I REALLY need this plant..” bc the answer to that is always yes duh

Divination is not for predicting the future

Now stay with me, it is for guiding you in the future. It can not tell you what day you are going to die, who you are going to marry, etc

The future is not written in stone

Let’s sayyyyy you do a simple past, present, and future reading with tarot, and you get a bad reading for the future, it doesn’t matter. That is how it is going right now, now you can see what you need to change etc

You dont need a fancy journal for a grimore or book of shawdows

Heckadoodle I use a binder and notebook paper so I can move stuff around. I just write with a pencil and pen, and color with dollar store crayons or collered pencils.  Now, you may be thinking, “Oh but, it’s a nice binder right?” Lemme stop you right there. It is falling apart, needs to be ducktaped, has a picture of my doggo inside and I’ve used it for school for abouutt.. 7 years? Summin’ it up: It don’t gotta be fancy

If you forget to blow out candles set a timer on your phone

I do this all the freaking time and I’ll leave a candle out, and then here comes mother. Closet underage witches know the struggle. Trying to explain why you have a burning candle left in your room. Or if you are adult and have to adult after a spell or whatever and leave the house and come back to the candle just sittin’ there. Burning away. (my mom did this once and it caught her table on fire) Timer. Yep.

You don’t have to know a certain language

This is more focused to me bc i am nerd but okie dokie I know Latin from school, therefore I mix it into my spells (like some on @witchy-recipes-and-things) and provide a translation. I don’t want anyone to think you have to have a certain language for your craft.

How to Ouija

Tbh this is too long already so if you want another post on it tell me and I’ll make one and link it

Sigils can be drawn everywhere

In your phone case, in your wallet, in a shoe, under fingernail polish, under seats, wherever whatever-I can also elaborate more on this

TAROT IS PRONOUNCED “TARO”

CONSENT IS KEY

When doing love spells, consent from the other person is a must.

You can be a christian, athiest, pagan, whatever, and still do witchcraft

It is about the craft, not religion

Witchcraft is not a religion, Wicca is

And you do not have to be Wiccan to partake in Witchcraft

Sage doesn’t have to be in cone shape to burn it

I put rubbed sage meant for cooking on a metal plate and torch the sucker Shane Dawson style but with one of the long lighters, then run around my house in my underware screaming “MAY THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPEL YOU BITCH” in Latin

When cleansing

OPEN.THE.WINDOWS.WHEN.DEALING.WITH.SMOKE Trust your witch mother who is allergic to everything and is an asthmatic, open the windows and doors. Also, as the smoke leaves you room through the windows or whatever, the spirits/bad vibes/etc leave with it

You don’t have to believe everything you read

Witchcraft is how YOU feel about things. No matter how other people feel about things

You can have your own corresponces for things

Like I think cinnamon is hot, deals with the sun, direction south, used for healing love etc., but it can be totally different for you

Divination doers do not have to be witches and witches do not have to be divination doers

S T U D Y

Can not stress this enough. This is the best thing to do even if you can not practice your craft where you are atm. knowledge is power.

So here is a list I’ve complied :D (yes I’ve made all of these, I was too bored to ask people’s permission to add things, sue me) (All of the spells are all religion inclusive)

Learn you star sign with detail Edible Flower List Witch Tools Tarot Meanings Cheat Sheet

Good First Spell-Calming Tea Spell DIY Charcoal Pencil Get Shit Done Bottle Spell to Sleep Sea in a Bottle Protection and Calm Bottle Find a Item You Lot

Referring to “When cleansing”, Line two, words 3-4, I am now your witch mother and if you ever have any questions feel free to ask! This list was requested from a witchling and if you have any requests feel free to ask :3

Tips for lazy witches

We all love our witchcraft but sometimes you’re just too tired to do some certain things so here is a list to help make a busy witches life a little easier.

• too exhausted to make a sigil? Go onto sigilscribe.me and it creates a perfect sigil for you all you need to do is charge it!

• if you wear glasses enchant them so when you wear them when your tired they will help your eyes more

• when casting a circle do it metaphorically instead of lying down crystals, stones, salt etc.

• use music lyrics if you are too tired to create a spell

• want to increase or decrease things? Stir tea clockwise (increase) anti-clockwise (decrease)

• enchant your bed on a good energy day so on a low energy day it may help

• make little pre-made ritual and spell kits/bags so when you need to preform something all your measured ingredients and supplies are already there

* Happy enchanting 🖤✨🌙

Crystals

Crystals

~ What are Crystals and what are they used for?

Most crystals ( in this case including gems, rocks, precious stones, semi-precious stones, and simple stones) are of mineral origin. Crystals, like amethyst, come out of the ground naturally faceted and don’t need to be changed in anyway.
