OK LADS, I KNEW THIS WAS COMING

FRIENDLY REMINDER, THOUGH I DO NOT LIKE QUEER BAITING ONE BIT, BUT WHAT TDP DID WAS NOT BAIT, THERE WILL BE MORE REP, THESE WERE TWO BACKGROUND CHARACTERS, ALSO BEING LGBT SHOULD NOT MEAN THAT THESE THINGS CANT HAPPEN, THESE THINGS CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE, AND OTHERS REGARDED OF SEXUALITY HAVE DIED IN THE SHOW. REST YOUR BREASTS

@ everyone freaking out over the implication that tdp might do byg! Please have more faith in the creators than that.

let me just hit you with an idea. it’s OK FOR GAYS TO DIE IN SHOWS.

the issue comes when creators do it without reason. the fact that aaron adressed it beforehand, and knows the effect it may have on some fans just shows how much they care. they’ve thought this over and did not take the decision lightly and it shows. I trust the crew to make sure the deaths are there for a good reason. they’ve said it won’t be the only rep in the show. 

don’t get mad just yet. give it a chance.

so i saw both the hypeable interview and aaraons response and taking both of those into account here are my thoughts:

i think, first and foremost, we should wait as a group to actually see the episode before jumping to conclusions about the episode. byg is a very specific instance of an lgbt death that isn’t simply an lgbt character dying. the crew didnt make this decision lightly, according to aaron

there will be more rep. aaron said so in his thread, and there has already been near-confirmation of runaan (since i doubt hes dead) and tinker. this is only season two out of a hopeful 6/7

i understand the feeling of betrayal of learning about this, especially with the v/d shitshow happening so recently. but we need to trust the crew’s promise and give them the benefit of the doubt before making any concrete conclusions. yes the phrasing of that article made it seem like this was byg, but not every single gay character death is bury your gays and we need to keep that in mind going into s2

I think the fact that Aaron has not only addressed the issue, but assured us that they really debated over it tells us a lot. We, as fans, are not used to the higher ups giving a shit and, honestly? The fact that they even care to say anything says a lot. They’re listening. They care and want us to know they truly care and don’t want to do anything with the story that hurts fans truly.

Alright so... I never wanted this to be my first post, and I especially didn’t want it to be my first post about the Dragon Prince. I’m pretty sure a lot of you (assuming people will see this) know what I’m talking about.

The allegations of TDP queer baiting.

Now, before we start, I’d like to say that I understand being upset. As a part of the LGBTQ+ community, I know how much queer baiting and the bury your gays trope hurts. I am not in any way, shape, or form saying those tropes are okay. I am, however, saying we might be judging the show too early.

First of all, the characters in question are allegedly side characters. This doesn’t make it okay, but it does mean they are not killing of a non-straight main character. This is not an Adam repeat.

Second of all, we have been promised other rep. These side characters are not the promised rep. The show staff are not killing off our main rep.

Thirdly, this even allegedly takes place in a flashback. This allows me to assume that they may be some sort of historical figures or such. It would make sense for them to be dead if it’s related to an even that happened that killed off not only them but others as well. They do not seem to be killing them off just because.

Lastly, if you look at Aaron Ehaz’s twitter, He and someone who has seen the episode have addressed the issue. Aaron has agnoliged how hurtful the tropes in question are and has said the writers did their best not to fall into the trope. The other person to address it has said they don’t really think it fell into the trope and that it is not comparable to what happened to Adam. They said it was not used for shock value.

The Dragon Prince is not Voltron 2. They are lisenting to us and our concerns. They are not marketing to us just to get our money only to pay us back with what they know will hurt us. They are not saying we’re overreacting.

Please. Don’t write the show off yet- not this early. Give the show a chance.

Anyway, that’s really all I wanted to say. I know this isn’t the best defense post ever, but I had to say something. Voltron hurt me just like it did many others. I truly believe The Dragon Prince will be different.
