But Is It Art?

Following Hive Primus ‘donating’ Astropath Shilum Drool to the settlement of Paraquat, it has received another ‘gift’. This time it comes in the form of ‘The Emperor’s Thumb’, a so-called work of art that represents the protection and benevolence of The Emperor. The item caused a storm of controversy as adherents to the Cult of Redemption protested it’s installation Slag Valley Bullett #11.…

love to get tours of architecturally award-winning buildings from the people that work there. especially libraries, for some reason. I have never seen a well-designed architectural library. highlights I have seen include:

it's mostly glass and all the panes leak (many such cases)

they forgot to account for the weight of books and now it's subsiding

it's mostly glass and therefore essentially a greenhouse. books and people studying famously love wild winter-summer temperature fluctuations

it's Round. books tend not to be

they put the radiator just under the window....which is a skylight

the only lift is for moving books, so if you can't use the stairs, you'll have to go out, use the main building lift, and come back in on another floor. doors on other floors need a special access keycard

we built this space specifically to house manuscripts but the temp/humidity control is always on the blink

the stairs/corridors are too Aesthetically Narrow and if you want to pass another person, you have to awkwardly crab shuffle past each other

there are no walls separating the library from the rest of the faculty building. no one's ever wanted a quiet study space, after all

One of the things I like about Trails is how mundanely it treats some forms of magic, and how magically it treats swordsmanship. It's known that trains work though gravity manipulation gemstones that just slide the train at great speeds. Fine, normal magical-tehcnology stuff. Combat mages throw fireballs, sure, and almost anyone can learn to toss out lightning or healing spells. Streetlights run on mana, it's all presented as normal technological development, the domain of universities and corporate R&D divisions. But swords? Swords are magic. Swords are real magic. The sort you train your entire life mastering one small school of. You look at Laura there and think "that sword is far too large to be useful", and you're right! Unless you're trained in the Arseid school. If you're a Arseid student, yes, you can throw around a 7' long great sword like it's a regular old claymore. You learn strikes that cause a localised earthquake. You can just spontaneously manifest glowing wings and attain a combat-focus that lets you cut a tank in half. And the Arseid school is brutally simple and mundane next to the nonsense that comes out of Nord spear dancers, who spin tornadoes up with a pointy stick, or the catastrophic, time-dilating, nonsense the Eight Leaves masters get up to.

I was digging around in my shelves for Ork bits, and found my old Imperial Guard Command Squad, from the 8th Necromundan regiment.

I made these around '98-99 - the rest of the army was mostly Van Saar and Orlock gangs I'd picked up cheap second hand, plus some tanks. Had a lot of fun in the City Fight era. I still can't do faces for shit, mind

The Ferengi Commerce Authority is significantly funnier if you work in UK finance, as our regulator is also the FCA.

I remain a massive fan of the incredibly gutsy decision to have the big finale fight of season 1 not be a big flashy aerial sword-duel, but an old man with a box-cutter vs a kid who had to relearn how to walk a few months ago. (that said Asuna-Yuuki is a masterclass in combat-characterisation. Not just Asuna and Yuuki's personalities shining though how they fight, but the reactions of their friends being reminded that Asuna is That Damn Good, and Kirito's smile because... Kirito always knew she could fight like that)

do you guys think there’s a fight that’s universally loved and hyped up by the sao fandom

george lucas is such a great writer he will call the jedi mafia dons then move right on

George Lucas: The thing is, in IV, V, and VI, you didn't really get to see real Jedi in action. To me, that was something that a lot of people would want to see. And of course, the other part is, where are the Jedi at this point? What are they? We've never seen one, really, except for Obi-Wan.

The idea was to establish Jedi as what they were, which is sort of peacekeepers who moved through the galaxy to settle disputes. They aren't policemen, they aren't soldiers; they're mafia dons. They come in and sit down with the two different sides and say, "Okay, now we're going to settle this."

hey buddy . elaborate?
